  I have a DV7 HP ENVY with 3 - USB 3.0 ports and 1 - USB 2.0 port. The USB 3.0 ports are working well but USB 2.0 does not work. When you plug a USB stick to the USB 2.0 port power led on the memory stick lights up but the led data is not. The computer does not at all to the inserted USB memory. The USB works fine in other 3.0 ports. I tried also to connect other USB devices, and it's the same thing. They work well on USB 3.0 ports, but nothing happens when you connect to a USB 2.0 port.

  I was looking at the USB drivers in Device Manager and haven't noticed anything that seems strange.

  I have run the system test diagnostic USB to start the system and got the following codes:

  Some time ago I did a complete reinstall of Windows 7 on my laptop, remove Windows 7 Home Premium that accompanies it and installing a fresh Windows 7 Home Premium.

  I had to install some drivers and updates, like you do and then found what I wanted to work, worked.
  
  Except the USB 3.0 ports.

  When I plug my USB 3.0 on a USB 3.0 flash drive, the access light flashes and then stops. But the operating system does not recognize and does not normal "du-DUM!" sound.

  In Device Manager , I see three other devices: Controller of Bus SMand two instances of the (USB) Universal Serial Bus controller. Clicking on software driver update , then "Automatically search for an updated driver" on both of these entries translates into a "Windows failed to install your controller (USB) Universal Serial Bus".

  My computer was purchased new in 2011.

  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  I can access any wireless internet access and all is well, except that I can't use any 3g usb modem.
  I don't have dsl in my home so I use 3g internet TMN with a usb modem external style pen.
  All my other toshiba to run the Internet very well without any problems.

  I insert the pen and the usual installer comes up, installs, PSI program and everything's fine. When I go to connect, it says usb modem unavailable. I have updated drivers and all. I have 64-bit windows 7.
  If I try to go to my network and try to activate the usb modem he says something on remote access does not. If I click on properties it says unexpected error.

  Please don t get me wrong, but you probably know that Toshiba doesn't support third party hardware or software. All Toshiba in your case is compatible is the feature USB port and in your assignment is described clearly that the USB port is working.

  When possible try to contact your internet provider and ask for assistance. They have the best experience with own hardware and software, especially with the configuration of the software.

  Well, there are several reasons for this; It would be possible that the inserted disc is not completely compatible. Try different drives from different manufacturers.
  It would also be possible that the STRANGE laser lens is dirty. In this case, you might clean using a cotton ball and alcohol tip. In my case it helped.

  Did you use a compatible card? The laptop runs these cards:
  8MB - 2 GB SD card
  SDHC - 4 GB card
  -16 MB - 2 GB xD Picture card
  Memory Stick - 8MB - 256MB
  Memory Stick Pro - 256 MB - 2 GB
  MultiMediaCard - 8 MB - 1 GB
  miniSD (with SD adapter) - 32 MB - 2 GB

  I recommend also to format the card and to copy files from computer, and then test this.
  You can also reinstall and update the driver for the card reader controller...

  Have you checked the Bios? I guess that the Bios Toshiba was preinstalled on your laptop. Am I wrong? There should be an option to change the PC Card controller mode.

  Here, you can change the mode of the automatic selection, CCIP compatible controller or card bus/16-bit.
  If the card supports 32-bit so you should use the 16-bit option.

  I think you should play a little with this option and possibly that the card will work.

  Have you tried other USB devices such as a USB or disk external DRIVE with USB interface? Normally you n t need additional drivers for most USB devices except printers for example.

  More I recommend removing all the USB ports on the Device Manager and then restart the laptop.

It is 100% sure that the problem is somehow related to Toshiba or Windows XP as the same USB converter RS232 perfectly works and right the first time with for example Fujitsu ErgoPro have Windows 2000 (and it's a machine Pentioum 233, very old stuff indeed).

  As far as I know the built-in modem is using the same port.
