USB 3.0 hard drive "Unknown device" After sleeping

I have a USB 3.0 external hard drive (1.5 to) that presents itself as 'Unknown device' recovery from my computer.  If I reboot, the drive works fine.  It occurs only after my computer goes to sleep.  I might just disable the sleep turn off hard disks, but I want to sleep/off hard drives can add some life to them and save me some powers.  I use Windows 7 Ultimate (64 bit).  Also, I have my power settings so that my hard drives turn off after 45 minutes and my computer sleeps after 1 hour.

Any help would be appreciated.  Thank you.

I think that editing the registry in the AdditionalCriticalWorkerThreads string may have worked.  I didn't have any problems today, but I'll keep testing to make sure.

Thanks for the help.

    Hello

You can also try to use the USB1.0 port. But if you want to use data transfer high, you can try to use the firewire port. Using Firewire USB2 adapter for example.

  • How to make Toshiba USB 250 GB HARD drive read-only?

    Hello

I just plug a Toshiba USB 250g external hard drive to replace all the sticks of memory, I've been using.

I'll use this external hard drive to copy files to other computers and I would like to know how to make the drive read-only.

Moreover, all the other tips to protect the disc would be extremely welcome.

I use a Dell with Windows 7 laptop.

    Thank you very much

    Dougal

I don't know what HARD drive you have exactly, but I know that Toshiba offers a software protection with external hard drives.
Did you check manuals? Is something like that provided with your HARD drive?

Maybe you need to use some third party software part for the protection of files on the HARD drive. Google all over the place.

  • Tecra S3: SATA hard drive not recognized after XP updates

Windows has recently completed an automatic update on a Tecra S3 equipped with a 60 GB HARD drive SATA.
After the reboot required for updaates windows generates a BSOD.

I've traced the error and found that the system can not find the hard drive.
Even when I use the XP cd and restore/repair console without a hard drive is located.

When I check the BIOS hard drive is there.
I removed the hard drive and used an external case and determined that the hard drive works fine.

    Hello

    Tecra S3 supports RAID.
In order to install Win XP RAID driver is needed!

The RAID driver can be found on the European driver Toshiba page.
    It s a v 1.01.0005 for Win XP.

You can include the RAID driver using nLite. This free tool allows you to include the RAID driver in the Win XP disc.
Google for nLite for more details.

  • external unknown device after device, hard drive or the printer goes into sleep/hibernation

I guess that the problem occurs when each device goes into sleep/hibernation because this is happining to only my external hard drive and printer.  All other devices connected by USB have never no problem and will not go to standby or Hibernate. Difficulty I should close down then cold restart without connected device. then after the system is installed and running reconnect the device then it is recognized and works. I tried to just the printer powerdown (cables power and usb for printer peripheral but comp still running while still not recognized after that repower printer and then usb connection get 'unknown device'.)  The only way to obtain a recognized device, DHM or printer is as above full stop and then reconnect.  Any help would be greatly appreciated because it really is a pain and has cost me a printer that I threw out the window, luckly the window was open.  Thanks again for your time and your help very frustrated JK

  • External USB 2.0 Hard Drive detected only 10 seconds in the Device Manager

I am running Windows 7 and trying to plug my hard drive 200 GB from an old computer with XP in my new computer via USB 2.0 to an external case.  The external box is its own source of power and requires no drivers. When I plug it into the USB port, I hear the Bell indicating the window detects an external device and she appears under USB devices in Device Manager, but only for about 10 seconds then disappears.  It never appear in disk management or in the computer as a mass storage device.  I tried to use other cables/USB ports. I tried exchanging the external box for a new thought the first one was defective, but that did not help.

    Hi Stroke77,

    ·         Did you get the computer pre-installed with Windows 7?

It is about if the external drive worked when the computer was working with Windows XP or Windows Vista.

Here are some steps that may help you solve the problem.

    1. plug in and turn on the external USB hard drive
    2. right mouse click on workstation
    3 left click on manage
    4. click on Device Manager
    5 expand the USB list
6 find the USB device to USB hard drive
    7. the right mouse click - Uninstall
8 turn off the external USB hard drive
    9. turn on the external hard drive USB and let it find and install the driver
    10. it should work

  • External USB HARD drive Stor.E basics Sleep Mode

    Hi all
Recently, I bought Stor.E Basics 500 GB USB 3.0 external hard drive to store my archives of work (mainly the .docx and .xls formats).
During my work after maybe 5 or 10 minutes, my drive HARD past in mode "sleep" and it takes time to wake up my drive and resave the file. Is there a solution to my problem? I need to disable the Sleep Mode.

    A few things I've tried:
    (1) I tried to use 'Always On' profile in the control panel power option
    (2) off "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" devices-online all storage devices Usb root Manager.
    (3) and also disk management-properties-hardware-online HARD drive-online policies online online => optimize for performance.

    OS - Windows XP SP3.
    PS Sorry for my English.

Do you have the same HDD like this one?
    http://www.Toshiba-multimedia.com/EU/store-external-hard-drives/basics/

This HARD drive has need of 900mA power supply.
This means that you need a USB 3.0 standard or 2 x USB 2.0 ports

I think that if your computer supports support only USB 2.0, you must use the USB cable to Y which allows you to connect 2 USB ports HARD drive.

I recommend to check this statement and after recognizing the device, you can try to install the right driver.
