USB drive w / CDRom virtual stalls Desktop

Hello

Toshiba laptop of a friend must be updated by key USB WLAn (from Chello.at) and mobile internet (for AON.at): Thoshiba SPA40 GR, model no PSA45E - 0024 M - Gr. Windowx XP SP3, IE8, Avast AV, Ashampoo Firewall; System clean and free of errors.

I give below details but I think that I need new chipset drivers for the laptop and can't find it.

two sticks out different do seem to have the requireed hardware (wireless and mobile broadband network adapter) and software required on an integrated virtual CDRom. The two clubs are working well on other machines, XP and Win2k.

Problem: (with both sticks even) - sequence of actions:

Stick is connected to the USB 2.0 location, shortly after the new hardware is detected and 'installed' (not really, see below). Paste the first flashes differently, but after a while systematically on every half second. thing notihng happens.

Taskbar displays ikon 'removal of material", that does not work, but displays"delete drive G"clickable. If you click it, nothing happens.

Opening of office shows no resources (disks) - No... neiterh C: or D: or whatever

Opening Explorer shows a g (new): CD player, that cannot be opened.

By Deskotp/context. Poster CD additional Device Manager: "virtual CDRom USB Device 0ace20ff", no symbol error at all.

Changing 'See the disabled Devices' (or however this can read English) shows an unknown device with error-ikon. (Two is the WLAN device which should be installed the new drive G:

Stick can be removed by ikon "remove USB device" in the taskbar; closure of office (or Solution Explorer, the same) leads to "the program is not responding." by clicking on "stop immediately" and the closure of office result in the start screen blank XP, nothing else, except the mouse pointer - no Startbutton, no taskbar, no systray... nothing.

Maschine appears dead until the stick is pulled, after about 10 seconds Windows pops up again and works perfectly.

I hoped that the updated chipset drivers would fix the problem (two with mater USB drivers or almost) m, but install inf and tryining drivers update these files has not changed anything on the sit.

I would be very grateful of any suspicion, could be given to how to get this mande. To repeat the real problem: a "virtual CDRom" provided on the USB won't install. two, said virtual CDRom contains the software needed for the hardware (WLan or mobile Internet - there are two different keys, both show the same problem) must be installed.

Googleing for "virtual CDRom USB Device 0ace20ff" spit many results, but none of the relevant information (very useful).

Thanks in advance!
Helmut

Hello Helmut

Fact is that Toshiba notebook itself works well and USB port recognize this device correctly.
Problem is to use an additional device that belongs to an internet provider.
In my opinion, they are responsible for the functionality and support.

Have you tried to contact them and ask for help?
You have clearly stated that this USB should work with the Windows XP SP3 home edition?

Here in the forum in this virtual world, it is not easy to offer concrete help with this stuff.
I really think you should clarify this with the internet provider and their support. Pack your computer laptop in the bag and bring to the store of Chello, put on the desk and ask if they can configure this device for you.
They must have good experience with own products.

Not directly supported in the current version of ESX (i). You can try passthrough. Take a look at the http://vm-help.com for directions. A future version of vSphere will be the real answer.

  • 250GB USB drive created I don't want cdrom drive

Just installed a new hard drive of 250 GB USB. At startup it keeps creating this drive with some programs on it. I partitioned the drive, but the specific CD-ROM drive keeps coming back. As it is the first device to be seen from the usb drive, it allows me to connect the usb drive as a file server drive to my installed internet router that has a USB for purposes of files on it. This port does not recognize my drive, because of the cdrom drive presumingly generated. So I want to get rid of this cdrom, I don't use the one-touch backup features or protection of password for the drive anyway.

Any ideas how to do this? Is a small partition on the Flash DRIVE or what?

    Hello

I've never seen any USB HDD external who could create CD rom readers.
Have you tried to format the first external HARD drive?
I put t know exactly why it happens, but you suggested he keeps creating the CD rom drive with some programs on it at startup. Perhaps the preinstalled programs are the reason to create Cd rom.
Try to remove these programs from the disk HARD (should first create a backup)

  • Loading file to the Virtual Machine by using an external USB drive... Please help

We have an environment that we would like to import and create a virtual machine. The files are on the external 1 TB external hard drive USB puppy with NTFS. The files are approximately 430 GB. I tried almost all the options to get the files to the HOST that is running the server ESXI 4.0.

Whenever we tried to get the files using the USB drive and Vsphere client connected to a local computer running windows on the ESXI 4.0 Server somehow transfer stops after a while. Some time around after ro possibly around 250 GB 200 GB. So far, we are not able to get the hard master file that occupies about 430 GB in the ESXI data store.  We also tried the third "Fastscp" software to transfer files to the ESXI host, but we had the same problem that the transfer stops at some point.

Another option that we tired was to start a machine with Linux live CD and USB directly attached to this machine. As the Linux version was newer USB NTFS partition hard drive has been detected without installing any NTFS disks. We have mounted the drive USB on this machine and exported the mount point. In the ESXI server using CLI not supported (Alt - F1) we were able to ride the point of editing exported and tried to copy the files to the folder main datastore but same problem the transfer stops after a few hours sometimes even near 300 GB.

Y at - it somehow I can bypass the file transfer by using not not the network, which means that if we reach directly the USB key to the ESXI server machine does not recognize it (using Alt - F1 not CLI) because it is partitioned into NTFS. I read that ESXI only supports FAT partition.

We also tried to start the machine running ESXI server with the latest versions of Linux, in this case, we were able to mount the USB drive directly, but because ESXI stores files with VMFS partition we couldn't mount this partition in linux.

Could you please recommend any solution to get the files the server ESXI 4.0?  Is there a way to allow us to start the EXSI with Linux server and can mount the partition VMFS use third-party drivers? OR what you would do. Advice would be nice.

Welcome to the forums - using the vSphere client should work - block of what size did you use to create your VMFS data store? If you left it at the default of 1 MB, then the bigger file, you can copy that VMFS datastore is 256 GB - you'll need to create the data store with a block size of 2 MB which will allow you to create a file upto 4 MB or 512 GB keast and a size of 1024 GB.

    Hello:

Have you tried either directly on Intel?

Download, unzip and run the setup.exe file.

  • Windows 7 SP1 RC messes up 2 USB drives

I had this problem before and removed the SP1 and it cures the problem, now, after some update, he's back.  I have 6 USB drives on my desktop HPE - 390T.  Two of these drives keep popping up a message "this device can operate more quickly if connected to a Hi-Speed USB 2.0 port."  Well, it is a Hi-Speed USB 2.0 port.  I checked the drivers and all six USB ports have the same version of the driver.  When you check the Device Manager on these two ports, it has yellow triangle with exclamation point and that is the message by double clicking on "Windows cannot verify the digital signature for the drivers required for this device. A recent hardware or software change might be installed a file that is signed incorrectly or damaged, or maybe it's a malicious software from an unknown source. (Code 52) "I tried to update the drivers but it comes back that I have the latest drivers, which as I said, are exactly the same as the other 4 USB ports.

For any help or suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

If all is not lost, where is he?

  • All user accounts Windows XPrestricted open all of a sudden 'Map network drive' by clicking on the desktop and the "research" by clicking on any folder

    Hello

you have a problem with my Windows laptop that left me speechless.

I would really appreciate if someone could provide a solution or any ideas where to start fixing this, as I get close to return to the previous backup full system, but reluctant to do so as I have never done it before so I'm worried if it really works as supposed (Macrium and Ping).

    1. description of the problem

All users of Windows XP (SP3) restricted accounts open all of a sudden 'Map network drive' by clicking on the desktop and the "research" by clicking on any folder, including My Documents.

However, all accounts administrator work as before and also user accounts work like so usual, they are included in the Administrators group, with respect to the clicks of the workstation and records.

In addition, the correct icons for 'Drive' and 'Record' are visible when connected as long as administrator but lacking when logged as long as user restricted when you check the file associations by "open the folder and then click on Folder Options in the Tools menu.» Click the registry file types list. »

    2 solution unsuccessful attempts

    2. google and tried the solution to manually change the registry entries from Microsoft: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/321186

    "
Start the editor of the register (Regedt32.exe).
Look for, and then click the default value under the following registry keys if this problem occurs with folders:
    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell
If this problem occurs with drives:
    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Drive\shell
Click on edit in the Edit menu.
Type 0 in the value data box, and then click OK.
    Exit the registry editor.
    "

(Fixit associated meanings has also not working for some reason, says that the Windows Installer does not run, don't know if the same problem...)

    2B. and then also tried the fix "regsvr32 /i shell32.dll" at http://blog.chron.com/helpline/2005/10/double-click-opens-search-instead-of-folder/.

After these steps, the registry under "Drive" and "Directory" information are as attaché at the end read somewhere there should be a "find" under lock and key, as I have, but don't know if the subkeys under 'Search' are what causes weird behavior.

If anyone knows and could provide what the values for the registry values must be in a system that works, would be nice to compare to possible problems.

Unsuccessfully, with what precedes, to solve the problem, but noticed through that:

2 c. When you are logged in as administrator, I am able to see and modify the registry keys concerned with regedit, considering that when logged in as a regular user, I get an error that translates roughly as "the key could not be opened [consultation]?.» Error in opening the key. "for"Default icon"and subkeys 'shell' to 'Drive' and some subkeys under"shellex ".

Oddly enough, this is also the case even if I "Run with" regedit as a user belonging to the Administrators group when logged in as a limited user.  Could be the mechanism of Windows registry access.

Noticed that the small group 'Users' did not have access to "Drive". Grant read access, even as the "directory" and other registry keys next to them, for "users".

Now see the values of registry as a limited user, but the problem persists. Do you really know what to try next, after spending hours Googling for answers.

3 computer laptop environment and other factors

    3. don't know if it's related, but perhaps that coincides the time and the possible reason of sage:

I had the problem two days ago described in "account Administor doesn't have access to some files and registry entries" to http://www.experts-exchange.com/OS/Microsoft_Operating_Systems/Windows/XP/Q_27415496.html.

Zone alarm free firewall prevented changing the key of HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microdsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run.

Which was fixed as in the article above tweaking of Zonealarm settings so that changes are allowed.

    3. the environment of the laptop:

    Acer Travelmate 8204 laptop

Windows XP SP3 with virtually all updates of installed Microsoft.

Recent issues (related?) with the .NET Framework 4 updates and the repair facility. FixIt against MS to install MS Update and the Application works and reveals no problems, but the settings from-> Panel-> Add or Remove Applications said that it cannot change or delete NET Framework 4.

ZoneAlarm Free Firewall version: 11.0.000.057, prevented possible culprit get earlier access to the registry, uninstall?

Norton Antivirus version recently installed 20.3.1.22, possibly in conflict with ZA or bug?

content 'Repertoire' 3 c registry key.

It seems that I managed to solve the problem on my own. Did two things:

1 set the registry keys determine programs associated objects 'Répertoire', 'Drive' and 'File' to the default values by using the settings found here: http://www.dougknox.com/xp/file_assoc.htm

    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\
    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Drive\
    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\

    2. If you want to have permissions for group 'Users' to read all these keys in the registry. For some reason any access worked only partly for standard users.

Not sure who finally solved this problem, but after I had finished 1. and 2. for the purpose of 'Record', by clicking on 'My computer' and any folder works normally for all users of the computer.

I suspect that some recent installation of program which adds actions associated with these objects messed up the registry. Suspects are Norton Antivirus and dbPowerAmp.

Thanks for the suggestions for this problem!

Is there a download driver usb as a microsoft? My external USB gives an error message about the dysfunction of the usb driver...

Most likely, it is a misleading message.  Most external hard drives do not require a special USB driver.  But check out the website of the manufacturer of the drive.

What brand/model of external hard drive?

The player has a power source or he relies on the USB connection for power supply?

It worked before?  If so, what happened just before the error started?

What version of Windows, including the service pack is installed?

Please post the full error message without paraphrase.

Have you tried to connect the player to another USB port, preferably one on the back of the case, if the computer is a desktop/Tower computer?

  • No boot USB drive without drive internal

    HP ProBook 6570b (B6P79EA)

    Hello

Initially, I wanted to replace the internal hard drive (Hitachi) by a cloned SSD.
That did not work. The DSS did not recognize as bootable. "No found boot device."

Then I tried to use the SSD as an external USB drive.
The laptop boot from the external SSD!
(with the drive hard internal in place).

But when I REMOVED the internal drive, the laptop does NOT start more USB - external SSD. (The bios boot order has been set to "first USB drive '")

    Beats me.

Why the laptop can not do without the original disk internal?  (A kind of strange love :-))

    Solved.

It turned out that there is a MBR problem with the cloned disk.

I suppose I could have found more quickly.

What made the opaque situation, was the erratic behavior of some usb drives.

Sometimes they did start, sometimes not. I have to check this.

Now, the laptop works fine.  Due to the SSD and the embedded video, there is no heat and

virtually no fan movement. Absolute silence. I love this machine.

  • Problems pictures copies of Flash memory card and USB drive under Vista 64 files

Hi, when I insert a flash memory card (SanDisk 8 GB SDHC or SanDisk 2 GB Compact Flash) either by inserting the card into a card reader, AutoPlay comes on but the image transfer stops after a few images have been copied to any program (Windows, Picasa, etc.). I chose to copy the files. Same experience when I connect the camera with the memory card in the camera using the USB cable to the PC. I tried to re - format camera memory cards, but it has no effect.
Also, I feel the same when I try to copy from a USB flash drive (the drive is basic, not a U3 key).
I have a HP Pavilion m9400t Elite desktop running Vista Home Premium 64-bit. I own this desktop computer for a year and I've always had this problem. I have no problem using these flash memory cards and a USB drive on my old XP PC or an Apple Mac Book. For what I can tell, my Vista desktop is set for automatic windows and updates from HP. Everything about the plan of updating drivers, etc., which would solve this problem would be appreciated.
    Thank you
    Srini

    Hi Srini,

one) that you get specific error messages when images are arrested to copy?

    (b) what is the file format of the pictures\files that are not copied? What images are copied with success?

To narrow the problem, please follow the steps mentioned below:

O copy the pictures manually on the flash memory card Office.

O connect the flash memory card\ camera to the back of the computer (for a different USB (port universal serial bus) and try to copy the pictures\files.)

O check if the photos are in double version:

Windows detects your newest pictures and doesn't matter the duplicate versions of the old photos that you've already copied to your computer

  • Windows 7 professional XP Mode - does not recognize external USB drives or internal DVD drive

I recently bought a new Toshiba laptop and ordered computer configured with Windows 7 Professional that I can use the XP mode for some older programs.  Virtual Mode and XP mode work well, but the computer will not recognize the USB external storage drives or internal DVD player.  This prevent me to save and transfer any file I'm working on in XP mode.  Anyone know what I have to do to make the computer recognize USB drives and DVD drive internal when I'm running in XP mode?  Thank you!!

    Hello David,.

    Thanks for the quick response.

Yes, it's a Microsoft Product, but there specific departments assigned to the people where they have more expertise, this is the reason why we have asked you to post your query in the TechNet where this issue is very discussed.
