    Hi all

I formatted my laptop some time ago. Now I want to reinstall windows vista (came along with my laptop). The thing is due to a problem that my CD drive does not work so I would like to install windows vista by using a USB key. Can you get it someone please let me know if this is possible... If Yes, how I've go ahead make a bootable USB.

As someone can tell me if there is a way to retrieve the WINDOWS KEY from the recovery disc.

    Thank you.

    Hello

This can help, but you will need a Vista system to create the working bootable USB key:http://www.askvg.com/how-to-create-bootable-usb-drive-to-install-windows-vista/

As for the product key, it should be on a sticker on the laptop (usually on the bottom). If it is not readable, contact the manufacturer for further assistance. As we said already, the product key is not on the installation disc.

Replace broken laptop optical drives is not too difficult, you can see this as another option.

Original title: the Machine is XP, this update KB2833940 and KB2844285 had been submitted to my computer via the auto update program.

The Machine is XP, this update KB2833940 and KB2844285 had been submitted to my computer via the auto update program.  Both have continued to "loop" on attempts to install on the machine.  Download prepare for installation and the installation would show as complete that in the menu screen may disappear.   Then the new UPDATE ICON appears in the lower Task/tool bar.   Using the feature "review updates", he noted that the updates have been shown as installed.   These have been removed by using the Add/Remove feature.
The automatic update feature was sut down and use the HELP/SUPPORT-update - selection I noticed that two updates mentioned display 0's (zeros) in SIZE, but also the time to download in a few MINUTES.

I note also that I have tried several times to correct this issue using what ever "patches" lacked good results.   ALSO THE MICROSOFT TOOL PATCH NEVER WORKED FOR ME.  ALWAYS A PROBLEM...

Uninstall the .NET Framework 2.0. Then download the .NET Framework Cleanup Tool
In the drop-down list box, select 2.0 and clean.
    Reinstall .NET Framework 2.0
Visit Windows Update or Microsoft Update and let it install the rest of the 2.0 updates, including KB2844285 and KB2833940.

Only if the drive was still usable and allowing for the write you to read the summary file but not. A read-only error.

You declare that you cannot access the drive at all, is - this correct? If so, I would get the replaced disk.

You will extract the downloaded file "RecoverTool_V2.00.42_M1223 8CE.exe" and run.

  • HP Elitedesk 800 G2 SFF: external hard drive not detected in the BIOS. Only USB Flash drives are detected.

    Hi all

I received recently 2 new HP desktop computers.

    HP Elitedesk 800 G2 SFF

    HP Elitedesk 800 G2 TWR

The goal is to test our real W7 x 64 image on these machines and to inject the missing drivers in the image.

MDT 2010 to create a deployment on a USB hard disk drive.

This disc of deployment is already used on 16 different models of HP in the company (Elitebook, zBook, EliteDesk) to install our image so I know it works.

Unfortunately, the two HP Elitedesk 800 G2, I can't start the boot disk but I cannot to USB for a USB key.

The USB drive is not detected and not proposed in the BIOS Menu of STARTUP.

Only the internal HD, external USB Flash Disk, DVD and network devices are detected.

Here's what I already checked or tried:

    • Latest Version of the BIOS installed (2.05)
    • UEFI Boot has been disabled. (not supported by our record of deployment)
    • USB ports are enabled (front and rear).
    • All types of USB devices are allowed in the BIOS
    • The start command has been changed to start with USB devices.
    • Legacy support is active and Secure Boot disabled
    • Delete the keys to secure boot
    • Reset secure by default startup keys
    • This morning, I created a new disk deployment on a USB Flash drive and it works!

So, it seems that only Flash USB drives are detected.

I know it is possible to return the flag removalble on a USB device to cheat the system and make it appear as a disk fixed, but I want a simple solution.

Does anyone know a fix or a workaround for this problem?

    Thanks in advance!

For those interested in the answer, here's the final results.

It turns out that the hard 500 GB external drive can be detected if it is fomatted in FAT32.

It's strange because my 16 GB USB Flash drive formatted in NTFS works very well.

In any case, I'll create a FAT32 Partition to the Boot MDT files and put my picture (because the file is too big for FAT32 partition) on the secondary partition (formatted as NTFS).

Thanks to the technical pre-sales team of HP who helped me with this!

  • HARD drive not detected in the BIOS on Satellite A215

    Hi all

I could use to solve this problem: bought this laptop computer without a disk of the auction. Installed again 2.5 inches HDD SATA 250 GB, which was not detected in BIOS and also not detected when using a MS Vista installation disc. When trying to install Vista, get a message no drive seen HARD and demand for pilots.
I flashed the BIOS with version (2.0) of lates without problem through the CD drive, but still no detection of HARD drive.

The drive partitioned and formatted NTFS without problem by using another computer and USB SATA adapter using the command line method. Just for additional verification, I went on the new HARD drive to an extra 2.5 "SATA HDD used for backups, but that the HARD drive has also not been detected.

It is not a "compatibility" option in CMOS to select SATA or Auto, etc..
There is not a second HDD, so this isn't a question of slave/primary. There are no jumpers on the new HARD drive.
Set the CMOS settings 'by default' does not solve the problem.

The SATA connectors on the HARD drive and laptop computer are in perfect condition.
Also, the drive is not detected on the laptop connected via USB to SATA Adapter, but of course there is no OS installed to support this connection.

In any case, I just can't come up with any more ideas to try.
Any suggestions would be really appreciated!

    Best,
    Glenn

    Hello

The BIOS should recognize the HARD disk even if the SATA mode would be compatible or AHCI. This should not affect the recognition of the HARD drive.

You said that you have tested the condition of the HARD drive and it's ok, so I guess that it s no disc HARD question.
Hmm, you could try to format the HARD drive once more and then connect the portable computer HARD drive.

Another idea: Remove/Disconnect the CD/DVD drive and then connect the HARD drive to the SATA connector.
If it does not, then I recommend to test another HARD drive, otherwise if the new HARD drive would not work, then a SATA controller may be defective.

  • Why is my 64 GB USB Flash Drive "not a backup location valid?

I tried to turn it to a previous question, but reading of the Code of conduct for this forum, I discovered that it was inappropriate to do that.  My apologies for this.

I am running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 - bit SP1, installed using Toshiba recovery disks (I have a new Toshiba laptop, when I got the system I opted to not have a recovery partition).  I just cleaned all the bloatware off Windows, ran Windows Update until there was no more updates for (achieved in this way SP1), and now I have a fresh and clean windows installation, which has never even been to a single Web site.  Now, I am trying to create a system image on a 64 GB flash drive (I won't even finish by using half of it, as my SSD has only about 19 GB used, and which includes the hibernation file (I disabled the pagefile, because paging files are unkind to SSDs))

Before, I asked if it was possible to manually create a System Image of Windows 7 on a USB Flash drive (big), and I got two answers 'Yes' to two stars of the community. (See my question here)  It is also stated that it is possible on windows.microsoft.com, here.  Note that when windows.microsoft.com stipulates "the system image must be saved on a hard drive, reference is made to automatic creating system images.  If you keep reading, you'll see that the page says that if you want to manually create a a system image, this image of the system may be recorded on optical discs, a USB Flash drive or a hard drive.  If it is possible, then why will I have the following problem?

64 GB USB Flash Drive inserted--> closed Autoplay dialogue--> Opened "My Computer"--> Right-clicked drive E (my flash drive) and the selected format--> Unchecked 'Quick Format'--> size of the NTFS system chosen and 4096 bytes of cluster--> Clicked 'Format' and acknowledged that all the data will be deleted--> waited a while for the form to fill out, then clicked OK--> closed 'My Computer'--> ejected my flash player by clicking on 'remove hardware safely'--> physically unplugged flash drive--> Grabbed a diet coke with ice--> inserted 64 GB USB Flash drive--> AutoPlay dialog closed--> opens the start--> Clicked "All programs" Menu--> clicked maintenance--> click Backup and Restore Center--> clicked on create System Image--> (scans of program for storage devices)--> my flash drive appears under "on a hard drive" and the words 'the drive is not a valid backup location' appear under my FlashDrive being listed.  For reference, "on one or more DVDs" appears just below the text saying "the drive is not a valid backup location."

My understanding is that what I just tried to do is create an image of the system on an NTFS partition formatted (with a 4 KB cluster size) 64 GB USB Flash Drive.  But it is not letting me!  I understand that I can't plan the creation of automatic system for USB Flash drives, but according to windows.microsoft.com image and two stars of the community, it is indeed possible to "manually" create a system image on a large USB Flash drive, which I think is what I just tried to do.  If there is another way to create a system image, even more 'manually' than what I do (I'm certainly not afraid of the command line, if I need to use it I'm more than happy to do so), please let me know.

I have a low-quaility SATA 3.0 Gbit/s notebook HDD in an enclosure USB powered bus at low prices, and I was able to create a system on that image.  However, I expect this device to fail shortly.  I also managed to create a system image on a DVD-r virgins.  I did, however, just spend $85 on a 64 GB USB Flash Drive specifically to store an image of the system, which I expect to use to back up Windows 7 with World of Warcraft installed (total size of drive C will be approximately 50 GB; I have not yet downloaded WoW; "I want to overcome this first).

Any ideas would be appreciated.  Thank you!

1st edit: adding links so people would not need to copy and paste to their address bar and said the last sentence of the last paragraph.

I suggest avoid you the Windows backup program and you get a good commercial backup program. This forum is frought with for a windows problem reports. I know that I was very impressed when I tried it. Two me are familiar with and like Norton Ghost (which I use for 7 years without the 1st problem) and Memeo, which has 30 day free trial and you can buy it for $29.99 - you can download it from http://memeo.com. You can get Ghost for almost nothing (like me), if you look at the sales.

CNET has a lot of reviews of backup program to

    http://download.CNET.com/Windows/backup-software/?tag=contentBody;sideBar.

Some of them are free (the last time I checked there are 315), some have free trials (more), and some are buying only (more than 200).

    Good luck.
