Use high CPU (35% average) while System Idle process CPU about 98% but frustrated by "[name of the prog] has stopped working".

Hello

I am trying to help someone with a laptop HP model g6-1202sa (Windows 7 Home Premium 64 - bit, another record at the end of the post).

I think that Windows is now updated and drivers, but the problem remains also.

The laptop has the symptoms mentioned in the title I found the Manager tasks.  Laptop fan is on a large part of the time, and the owner says that, during the execution of something more intensive than Skype for example of internet browsing, they get a warning from Norton on high CPU. Resource monitor shows that system interrupts are on average about 31% CPU.

The results, I found the task manager has led to some research on Google, which in turn led me to want to run adksetup.exe (Windows Assessment and Deployment Kit) in the hope of discovering if a particular driver is causing the problem. (Various threads on the internet point to what is the way to go).

However, after downloading adksetup.exe, when I try to launch it I get the initial screen of Toolbox and then 'assessment of Windows and the deployment for Windows 8.1 Kit has stopped working ". (Verification of the solution finally gives the only option to "Close the program").  Similarly, I have now discovered that if I try to look at the properties of the computer, i.e. start > right click on computer > left click on properties, I get "Windows Explorer has stopped working". Do more research on Google I find sometimes I get "Internet Explorer has stopped working" sometimes (Chrome is ok).  More out of curiosity than anything specific I ran AMD VISION Engine Control Center after right click on the desktop and ended with 'Catalyst Control Center; The host Application has stopped working".

So before going any further, does anyone have any ideas what's happening?   I do not understand the problems 'has stopped working"in safe mode, but the high utilization of the processor with System Idle Process around 98% is still there.  It appears so that I can run adksetup.exe in safe mode while this would be the way to proceed and continue to try to tackle the problem of CPU?

For the record, some of the things I've done along the way include update of Windows, updating drivers, running the file system (no violation of integrity) checker, a regular chkdsk ("CHKDSK discovered free space marked allocated in the master file table (MFT) bitmap. Correcting errors in the volume bitmap. Windows has made corrections to the file system").  Swapped the only module memory 4GB 2 x 1 GB modules I had to hang out, all the symptoms remained 4 GB then reinstalled.

Thanks for the tips

As you can see there are at least a dozen of them which are probably related to the high utilization of the processor.

The drivers are not updated (Bet you checked in the Manager device or with a sweeper driver as app)

To be honest I don't see how SFC returned no breach of integrity account required to this type of problems.

It might just be easier to re - install win 7, but I'm happy to help anyway

I can't believe how many people is blowing this issue, including MS MVP!  This search site and search the Web, there are tons of people with this same problem and the same exact symptoms:

    2. you can hear the grinding disc, without work stoppage
    3. system idle process is at 98% or more.
    ALL reports these 3 questions.

I think it might be a good idea to download a video of this really irritating problem.  I'll see what I can do.  I had this problem for about 2 years.   Furthermore, I'm typing this on my Windows 7 netbook because my Windows XP desktop computer has been in "system idle process" for about an hour and I can't use it for anything.  I tried to stop (via the power button since I can't use start - stop) and reboot, but it just goes back to system idle process until he is good and ready to stop it and I would like to have the control again.

I'd be interested to see a report of Disk Defragmenter. Open Disk Defragmenter and click analysis. Select view report, and then click Save as and save. To do this, before you run Disk Defragmenter because it is more informative.

  • Control Panel System Windows Explorer has stopped working

When I press on the Control Panel, system, I get an error "Windows Explorer has stopped working" and then control panel stops. I get this error every time I have to perform this action. When I run my PC on Safe Mode, it works fine and I get no error and I'm able to run the options that appear when the 'Systems' option is selected. Other tasks in the control panel seem to work correctly.  I also noticed that I get similar messages "windows Explorer or the program has stopped working" periodically when I perform other tasks in internet explore, etc.

I tried all the recommendations described in of KB/269949 and KB/929135 knowledge articles and many items in the Microsoft community, Microsoft and the Internet site. For example, update the video driver, auditor of file system (CFS), Virus scan, Mode safe, clean boot, memory RAM test, etc.. I also tried all the relevant actions I could think under the Microsoft Fix tool. Each of them has not solved the problem.

I have a laptop Acer Aspire 5742 G with ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470 with 8 GB of memory, running Windows 7 with all the latest updates installed, so all drivers have been updated. I also use the last IE 11 with all updates.

If anyone knows a similar problem with Windows 7, Windows Explorer and Internet Explorer 11, or has a recommendation how to fix?

    Hi Ravi,

This is an update to my problem. It might be useful to others with similar problems.

My problem has not been resolved, but I decided to live with it. It was a difficult decision after a major disaster, I almost lost everything on my PC to try and solve the problem.

I put the finger on the problem with the graphics ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470 version 8.741.1.5000 dated dated 25/08/2010 driver. I noticed that when I check for an update using Control Panel, Device Manager, select the graphics card above and updates, windows comes back with a message indicating that it is the best available driver.

I made the mistake to check the AMD website to see if there is a newer driver. According to their instructions and download their program, they recommended a more recent drive using the catalyst for AMD. The new driver is Version 14.301.1001.0 dated 15/09/2014 date. The same driver is also selected if I the Slimdrivers application user. With this new driver, the problem disappeared. In other words, I was able to use the Control Panel, System menu and access the submenus system without any problems. I thought I had solved the problem. I repeated the process and checked for the driver from the Windows Control Panel, Device Manager and look for the updates. Surprise. This review of windows update back to the original version of the 25/08/2010. The problem is back again. I repeated this process with re-installing Catalyst from AMD with the same results.

However, I noticed that the AMD Catalyst, never finished the installation and the installation crashed. Updated the driver before it crashed.

My major problem occurred when I tried to restart the PC with the new driver installed by AMD Catalyst. My PC and Windows would not start. He gave me a number of errors that the problem cannot be corrected. I tried all the solutions, Safe Mode, point to restore, System Restore and all the choices given in the articles from Microsoft. None of them worked.

Finally, after many hours, days and nights that I was able to use an Acer recovery disk, I created when I bought the laptop. One on the Image worked system recovery options and I could get my PC to a more ancient date. The driver is the original edition of 2010 the year with the same problem.

Therefore, I decided to live with the problem. I can access the submenus of system using startup and entering in the auxiliary system option in the search box. I wrote these submenus.

WARNING TO OTHER USERS. DO NOT TRY to UPDATE THE ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470, 8.741.1.5000 driver version dated 25/08/2010, using catalyst of MCDA.

Furthermore, my assessment is that if I try to restore my PC to the factory default condition, once all windows updates are installed and I install my apps, the same problem will occur. If I did think I would lose a lot of useful applications, which I'm not sure that I can restore. I have a lot of useful data that I use for more than 20 years and I can't afford to lose their jobs. I would live with the problem until something more grand occurs. In this case, I would by a new laptop. I would make sure that there no AMD ATI products on this topic.

Thanks again for the time. There is no reason to answer, unless as described above, you have seen something new.

  • Use of the CPU 50% but System Idle process 98%

Windows XP SP3 on an AMD x 2 processor.

One of the nuclei seems to run at 90-100% depending on the Performance graph.  The status bar downstairs, explains the 50% CPU usage.  But when I look at a process it shows the system idle process 96-99%.

    Network traffic is negligible.

Any suggestions on how to find out what each of my CPU would be appreciated

Check with Sysinternals Process Explorer. I wonder if you will notice interruptions or DPC having a high amount of CPU usage (which the Task Manager will be assigned to the System Idle Process).

  • Windows 7 suddenly slow and System Idle process CPU utilization a concern

Almost overnight, my Sony Vaio with Windows 7 (bought in 2010) has worked incredibly slow.  I tried to update the computer with the automatic updates of Windows and the Service Pack 1 could not install many times.  So, I installed the system update readiness tool.  Then I tried to install the SP again and it worked (I was also able to install SP2 and other updates at this point).  But, these downloads and installations took longer than they should have and my computer continues to lag when I'm trying to do something.  Norton AntiVirus found no problem.  I've only used about 20 percent of the memory.  System Idle Process is using high CPU, even when I try to use other programs such as IE and Google Chrome.  The computer fans work diligently as if the computer tries to run, but everything is going so slow that the computer is almost useless.

The computer is almost three years old, but did not have something else installed Norton because I bought the new computer.  It has been used daily for almost three years without problem.  I do a lot but check Windows Live Mail, and then type the documents in Word format - literally that's all; no other programs, games, etc.  However, I have an error code a few months back: 'Not authentic Windows, Build 7600.'  In response to the error, I got my product key and verified the program and to use new Windows 7.
Anyone know why the system idle process continues to consume so much CPU even when I try to open a web browser?  Even when the computer is inactive, the fans are running full speed and the computer becomes warm to the touch.  It seems that no matter what the computer is doing, it is lagging behind and struggling.  Even if I just want to open the start menu, it takes a few seconds for the computer to respond.
    Thank you!

It is not dust but the crapware that you must get rid.  The first suspect is Norton, which is a terrible software that slows down terribly computers.  Get rid of Norton and install Comodo Internet Security instead.  Make sure that when you get rid of the plague of Norton, you get the Norton Removal tool and run twice.  Also, make sure that manually enter you your folder program files and delete all Norton and Symantec files and use a program like Malwarebytes file Assassin to get rid of the persistent process who do not want to delete.

Then use CCleaner (and ONLY CCleaner - do not download or install any other system cleaners or registry mechanic) for cleaning your system and use Revo Uninstaller to remove any extra crapware that is installed on your machine.  Be sure to remove any software from Apple and get rid of all Windows Live software.

Finally, you'll want to disable several Windows processes that eat up RAM unnecessarily.  These include Sync Windows, Windows Defender and Windows Action Center.

Follow all the advice and you should find that your computer is running a lot faster.

  • Why the system idle process makes my desk fan light constantly

Why the system idle process makes my desk fan light constantly

The system idle process has nothing to do with your fan coming.  Your computer constantly monitors the temperature of your CPU and if this temperature is too hot, then the fans move on to high speed.  You can use the freeware 'CoreTemp' program to display the temperature of your CPU, if you want.  Temperature rises usually when the computer is under heavy CPU load but the usual cause of high speed switching fans is an accumulation of dust inside the computer and close the CPU fan.  Open your case and clean the dust.  A can of compressed air makes quick work of it.

  • The system idle process is always about 99%

    Hello

I noticed that the system idle process in the Task Manager is still 99%. What is a natural process or that this indicates a virus in the background or something? I also noticed that my laptop runs slower than expected performance.

I have Windows XP Pro installed in the laptop.

Please someone with an answer to this question, the answer!

    Hey Taha,

Your the system idle process will sometimes show high CPU usage, but this should not be for a long period of time. Windows XP runs its own maintenance tasks periodically (usually when the system is not busy), but these should appear as frequently or for a long period.

I would recommend running a scan for spyware on your system to make sure that there is nothing of causing your slow performance.

  • understand the system idle process

The Task Manager process often indicates "System Idle process" in courses running almost continuously and the disc access light stays on for an extended period. What is going on? And why not a title like "System idle" are located in the help files or administrative tools/Services?

  • Is it possible to see what is running in the system idle process?

Too often, my laptop computer Windows 7 system slows down to a crawl. Lambasts the drive. And Windows 7 will be smart enough to know that things are bad, but not smart enough to know exactly which slows down things. It is simply asking if I want to use an interface that uses fewer resources.

If I look at the screen in a program called Process Explorer, it is said that most of the cpu is used by a process called the system idle process. But you cannot stop this process. I need more information. What is past in the idle system process that slows down my system to a crawl, alarming even Windows 7 and stolen my hard drive - it's what I want to know.

Anything that slows down your computer, it is not System Idle
Process. "System idle process" is not at all no problem. Means "idle".

How to end the system idle process
... "it is to consume my whole CPU.

    HP pavilion g4 series
    Intel core i5

No it's not! Maybe someone else can give a better explanation, but the way I understand it is that when your system is idle, the system shows 100% idle process or nearby and it is because it has no applications or programs that run, but as soon as you open a program or run an application, and it requires CPU resources say between 1 and 4%, you will see the system idle drop in numbers, which shows the amount of the resources required by the program or open application.

So I believe that everything that is, show processor resources available to a given point in time.

Now, a virus can attack the process and change his behavior? I don't know, but if you suspect a malware attack, run complete scans of your system just to be sure.

    Good luck.
