Using static IP addresses with Virtual Machines

I am stable and ESXi assessment and thus have an independent network to a server, the switch and the laptop (as a system admin). Being a newbie to VM I have not had the time to explore on the web, etc.!

Problem is that I do not have a DHCP server, but each time the virtual machine at the start of the installation of the OS program, etc., that he tries to use...

Is there an easy way to temporarily disable DHCP and assign static IP addresses to virtual machines? I look at the docs, this forum, etc... but I must be missing something.

Thank you

  • Trouble using NI USB-4065 with virtual machine VMWare

    Hello

I'll be working with a virtual machine (windows xp) and I need to use an NI USB-4065 DMM.

When I connect the USB-4065 to the PC, the virtual windows xp recognizes the new HW and also MAX display the new device on the list DAQmx.

It seems ok, but if I try to use the USB-4065 (open the soft cover or in a LabView VI), the device does not work.

If I use the frontpanel app, when I click a botton, the Group seems to work but doesn't measure anything; If I try to reboot the softpanel, it works and 'freeze' of the screen.

If I use LabView, the VI returns an error on a maximum duration of the measure.

I'm trying to use the device on the real machine (not with VMware) USB-4065 works, whith flexible Panel and whith VI.

I update the driver of the DMM on the virtual machine, beats the device still doesn't work.

... I don't have any other idea, can anyone help me with this problem?

Yes, you must purchase a full license for the second installation of Windows 7 product key.  1 activation allows only one Windows 7 product key.  Apparently, you now have a second facility that requires a second product key. Carey Frisch

  • Only don't have a permit no cd! How to install a virtual PC with virtual machine? :(

I got a computer with windows xp Pro and I lost to a virus. And I got a windows 7 that was unused, so I installed it and now I'm wondering. Can I continue to use the Pro license (and my windows 7 had a new virus so I did reinstall windows 7 and activated it right.) But then he broke again while I did the same thing and this time she didn't so I called and I was connected with 5 people and the 5th person fixed my license for the last time for free! Thank you microsoft! ;D )? And I can't find the cd for pro! And I tend to use the license and however you can get the installation to work without the disc on the virtual machine that you have made. PS I also say that I have the license but not the disk. What should I do?  DX

    Hi Alexander,.

    ·         Using Windows XP on the virtual machine?

    ·         What version of Windows 7 you have installed?

If you plan to install Windows XP separately and have the dual-boot Windows XP and Windows 7, you must have a Windows XP disc. You can see the following link for more information.

How to replace Microsoft software or hardware, order service packs and replace product manuals

If this is not enough, you can install Windows XP on Windows 7 using Virtual PC, unless you have one of the following editions of Windows 7 (Professional, Ultimate or Enterprise). This does not need to have the Windows XP disk.

  • cannot select store with virtual machine

    Hello

I want to configure RDM for a virtual machine that has been powered down. When I chose one to add a ROW to a READ, the "Store with virtual machine" option is grayed out, only 'Specifies the data store' is available. From what I had experienced, by specifying a data store (only the local data store unavailable to its host), this would avoid this VM vmotion when its current host has been disconnected.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but what is the reason for which a virtual machine would not be able to choose la carte READ my San to his record?

  • Good way to put a static MAC for a virtual machine running on VC 2.5 with ESX 3.5 hosts

    Greetings,

Could someone tell me if a static addressing mac via VMware VC - slot of the VM client change the settings & gt; Map network & gt; MAC address - the value manual the last way to do. (because we are short VC 2.5 and its in the GUI).

I saw manal parameters by editing the vmx settings file (requires you to remove the virtual machine from the inventory of the VC. Is that above the new way, if you use Vmotion or does GUI defining a moot point?

    Thank you

    dhayashi

    Hello

If the MAC is one of the MACs from VMware, then you can set it in the CIV or directly in the VMX. Make sure that the virtual computer is turned off when you change the VMX. If this isn't one of the MACs from VMware, then you will need to have the guest operating system to change the Mac. There are many tools that can do this.

  • Static IP address with VPN

I'm doing research using VSphere our Organization and that you can't find the answer to an important question:

If you have 2 VM using the Hot Standby how do you deal with the fact that the VM active must have the same static IP address, since it is the only address our VPN router will allow our remote users to access?

    For clarity:

VMServer 1 @ 1.1.1.1 (where the 1.1.1.1. is the only address the VPN will allow a user to do) switches to a Hot Standby Server VMServer2

After switching to the VMServer 2 needs to be 1.1.1.1 so that the VPN will continue to let the remote users work with the machine.

Sorry if it's a simple question, but it's at the top of the list "should be able"!

    Thanks for any answers

FT is large, but also imposes constraints on the virtual machine. I wouldn't think that all virtual machines will be decent candidates for pi... Make sure you that understand the use cases and limitations before implementing FT.

  • Bind the MAC to the static IP address with WRT54GL router

    Hello

We use the WRT54GL Wireless router to connect 4 pc to internet. One of these pc requires a static IP address, because the router can do only reliable port-forwarding for IP static (I would ssh it and use it as a web server). I was told that this router has this ability, but for the life of me I can't find.

Could someone tell me how to proceed? I am running the latest firmware (v4.30.11).

Thanks in advance for your reply,

    Michiel

DD - WRT is fairly stable and well maintained. There are a lot of people using it and you get excellent support, if you don't mind not very technical responses to opportunities. Generally, the flashing of the firmware does not support the warranty. But that wouldn't be a problem if you have had a bad flash. And even for a bad flash you often have options to recover the router.

For the static IP address on the computer, change the settings of network to the ethernet interface. I do not know Gentoo you should have administration GUI for this somewhere.

You can use the following values:

IP (as mentioned earlier) for instance 192.168.1.10
    subnet mask 255.255.255.0
    address of the gateway 192.168.1.1
    192.168.1.1 DNS server

As long as the static IP addresses do not conflict with the DHCP server address pool create there will be problems running some static IP computers in the same local network with DHCP clients.

  • How to configure rdm to use iscsi lun in a virtual machine using ms iscsi initiator?

I have equallogic SAN attached to a cisco 3750

switch. It comes to our storage network.

Within the virtual machine for all readers of data other than my c:\ that has the operating system I would use iscsi data switch that has 4 network ports on four different nic cards already assigned.

According to what I read a virtual machine can use only 4 nic so I have a Production network the other three that I would

    Use it for iSCSI data.

Three ports of each virtual computer network for using ms iscsi with MPIO

    initiator.

I have already attached the RDM using esxi 3.5 as a physical mapping of RDM.

My question is how to configure the ports of the network adapter in the virtual machine?

The VM network is on 172.19.2. * where iscsi is on 172.19.21. *.

What would be the entrance on the network adapters in the virtual machine that is running ms win 2 k 3 r2 x 64.

  • How to use SMotion to move a virtual machine on two data warehouses

Hello, I have a virtual machine that has two VD (VD1 and VD2) and they are on different data (DS1 and DS2) warehouses.  The OS is on VD1 and VD1 on DS1.  Data on VD2 and VD2 is on DS2.

Is it possible to use SMotion to pass just VD1 of DS1 to anthers datastore (DS3) but leave VD2 on DS2?

I tried to move, but I don't see an option to move just a VD.

Any help will be appreciated, thanks in advance.

I found the ADVANCED button on the section of storage of the migration wizard, see the screenshot below.  It allows you to individually select your locations of migration.

    Hope this helps someone.

  • Extend a datastore in vCenter with virtual machines running

We have expanded our Volume and unit number logic on our NetApp SATA VMStore from 2 TB to 4 TB, we now want to expand in vCenter, I'm ok to do this within office hours, while VMS are running on the data store?

Going via configuration - storage - etc etc...

It should be good. Off-peak hours are preferable, because you must make playback etc.

This will not affect the virtual machine running inside.

Unless there is a particular requirement, why not go with 2 TB Lun? I mean add another 2 TB logical unit number rather than add a measure?

  • Orchestrator can be used to deploy applications in virtual machines?

    Hey guys,.

It is a matter of general features.  I spent a few hours trying to figure the best technology to use for deployment of applications within virtual machines.  It looks like vFabric Application Director would be the * best *, but I am also looking to vCenter Orchestrator.  He seems mature, but I don't know if it can be used to deploy applications within a virtual machine (for example, install IIS in a Windows Server 2008 VM).

Any input would be appreciated, marketing white papers are not totally clear!

    Thank you

    Drew

You can use the workflow operations comments to run commands install or a complete script to do. This says that you can also use vCO to orchestrate the Application Director as part of an workflow provisioning of end-to-end.

  • Create Cluster after SAN is already filled with virtual machines

    Hello

I have just joined a company that ESXi installed on a couple of data centers, they have invited running on these boxes already and use Fibre Channel SAN for data warehouses to store all the VMs on.

Considering the virtual machines are powered and are run on the SAN is it possible to create a cluster in this data centre including all the boxes of ESXi and SAN, without data on the San be wiped?  I'm afraid that create the cluster can clear the LUN and start over.

    Thank you

    Welcome to the community!

If I understand your facility, you have vCenter in place and all the ESXi host is managed by vCenter.

Now you want to create a cluster and add the host to the cluster, yes it is possible to add the host to the cluster without impact to the data store.

  • How can I assign a static ip for each virtual machine

I have the NIC 2 and 3 vm on my vm server.

I did find documentation how to assign an ip for each virtual computer fix.

pleas help me... but probably easy...

Assuming you have the management and the virtual machines on the same network, attach both rising/NIC bindings to the vSwitch0, configure the management network and tie each VM to the port "VM Network" group. As DSTAVERT mentioned, the IP of the virtual machine configuration is done in the VM themselves, as if they were physical systems.

    sample:

If you have different subnets for the management and the virtual machines, you must either create multiple vSwitches or work with the VLAN.

  • License with virtual machines management

    People:

We use virtual machines.  If we have a change in personnel or a VM corrupted, we create a new virtual machine to duplicate an existing hard drive, create a new VM, and assign the hard drive duplicate on the new computer.  Works perfectly.

The problem is that Acrobat thinks that we have installed on a new computer and requires therefore renewal, and it will not re-license automatically because he thinks that the license is already in use.

Is there a way around this problem?

Is it possible to convert our licenses from selling retail to a sort of volume license where there are but the code of a license that can be used X number of times?

    Thank you.

    MICAH

Purchase the right number of Volume licenses rather than retail sales license.
