Using the Satellite Pro L550-17U in North America

Hello

Hope this is the right place. I go to the Canada in a few weeks and I'll bring my laptop with me. My question is how can I know if I need a voltage converter. I asked around a few places and keep getting different answers. I was told that I would need to buy a converter by one person while another said that most laptops have built in converters. Also the frequency in Hertz, there here is different as well. Does that affect anything?

How can I check if I have a built-in converter?

My laptop is a satellite Pro L550-17U.

Thanks in advance.

As far as I know you don t need this converter. What you probably need is the power adapter. Check on Amazon for your country. There you can order this adapter for the USA or the Canada trip.

  • Suggestions for a new laptop - perhaps Satellite Pro L550-17U

Didn't know where to ask it is here in the General category.

I'm looking for a laptop replacement with some specificity. I can get most of them, but the last of them is difficult. If the requirements are:

17 "screen with a horizontal resolution at least 1600.
Minimum of 4 GB of RAM (8 would be nice)
    Running Windows 7 64-bit
    Bluetooth

    and finally, the duck:

    Supports Intel VT (Virtualization Technology)

I thought that the Satellite Pro L550-17U would be OK, but looking at the Intel site, it does not seem that T6570 processor supports VT and it must be supported in the BIOS even when, and nothing in the spec says that it will be.

Any person able to provide any help please? I would stay with Toshiba, as I had this high reliability of them, but would consider other fact (sorry Toshiba) if it is the only option.

    Hello Roger

In my opinion the most important question is: how much you are willing to pay for the new laptop?
Satellite L is OK, but don't forget that the L-series is, in general, not the best model of Satellite.

What objectives do you need new notebook?

  • Satellite Pro L550 - 17U PSLW9E - question of the HARD Win 7 64 bit disk recovery

    Hello

Basically, when I got the laptop it had Windows 7 Home Premium 64 - bit installed.
I created the backup disks, as asked it the first got scratched and gets stuck on the installation, I can install the 32-bit version (the CD it came with) and I tried to create a new 32-bit system recovery disk but it creates just a 32 bit recovery disc (which I already had the appropriate drive).

Just to see if there is a way to restore the 64-bit system without having to buy a new version of windows?

    Satellite Pro L550-17U
    Part number: PSLW9E-01500MEN
    Windows® 7 Home Premium 64-bit authentic (pre-installed, Toshiba-HDD recovery) and
    Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium 32-bit (Toshiba-Recovery DVD)

    Hello

You reinstalled the operating system using the Toshiba Recovery disk which contained the Win 7 32-bit operating system. The recovery of 32 bit Win7 has formatted the whole HARD disk and has deleted all partitions (recovery partition HARD drive containing too many Win 7 64 bit OS)! and replaced with Win 7 32 bit.
This means that Win 7 64 bit is no longer available on the HARD disk.

In my opinion, there is nothing to do you will need to order new Win 7 64 bit recovery disc.

  • Satellite Pro L550-17U fails to start, disk noise only

    Hello

I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro L550-17U age of 3 years (Sept 2010). And it worked perfectly ok since I bought it.

2 weeks ago I turned it on, my coffee table, where 90% of the time and nothing!

Black screen, no keyboard lights (Caps/screen/NumLock). Encourage the disk light noise, it was green and light work fresh when it is plugged.

Tried the external monitor still nothing.

    Followed by:

    The resettlement of ram
    Remove the hard drive
Pressing F8 fairly quickly after starting cold
Pressing F2 fairly quickly after starting cold
Removed power and battery, battery replacement,

When he turned (and rather black looking!). None of the lights on the keyboard respond (Scroll/Num/Caps Lock)

    All to nothing does not.

    Suspected motherboard breath.

I'm a little disappointed. I only got a laptop and others fail on me like that, and it was a travelmate 10 year and liked!

    Any other ideas?

    Hello

All that you have done is good and what are the typical steps that a laptop owner can try to check if this will help. Unfortunately there are not many options to test.
On this virtual path, it is not possible to provide the exact diagnosis, but I also think that there are some problems of serosa mainboard. Perhaps the BIOS? Who knows?

It is not easy to do what to do now the decision. You can communicate with the service and ask for help. They can check it out and tell you what the problem is here, but if the motherboard must be exchanged may be quite expensive.
It's really not easy to give you some good advice.

  • Last day I bought the Satellite Pro L550 and it's great

Last day, I bought a Toshiba Satellite Pro L550 (PSLWTA-00K00G).
    It's CORE i5 - 520 M, 4 GB, 640 GB, 17.3-HD200, HM55 + ATIM96 Pro + 1 GB, DVD, 802.11 b/g/n WLAN, WIN 7 PRO (XPP).

    It's really great.

Not bad. 4 GB of RAM and HARD drive with lots of capabilities on board. I assume that the hardware configuration will be good enough for your needs.

All you need now are good external speakers for good sound quality (watch movies or listen to music).

Can someone tell me how to put extra RAM?

    Hello

It seems that this laptop just support DDR2 400/533 memory modules.
You can upgrade the memory for max 2048 MB and you use these modules:
    DDR2 400/533 256 MB (PA3389U - 1 M 25)
    512 MB DDR2-400/533 (PA3412U - 1 M 51)
    1 GB OF DDR2 400/533 (PA3411U-1M1G)

These modules are 100% compatible and it works like a dream ;)

  • Installation of Windows XP Home edition on the new Satellite Pro L550

    Hello Lista

In my opinion you should look forward and begin using the new Windows7 operating system. It is really good OS, well done and runs with good performance on Toshiba laptops.
Please note that you have most recent laptop with newer hardware model designed for standards of Win7.
Yes, you can install Win7 when you want.

Win7 is fully supported and you won't have any problems with it.
To return to Windows XP edition family has no much sense to me, except to use some old software designed for Windows XP Home edition only.

Anyway, what model of laptop you have exactly (L550-xxx)?

  • Is it possible to use the port replicator with the Satellite Pro series?

    Hello
Is it possible to use the port replicator (Docking Stations) for Tecra series laptop with the Satellite Pro series?

    Hello

No, as far as I know it of not possible to use a port on laptops Satellite Pro Replicator.
All laptops that support the Port Replicator has a port extension at the bottom of the unit.
To my knowledge, the Satellite Pro series don t have this port.
For now only the Tecra and some units Protégé(ie: S100) supports this feature.

I need a recovery disc/download to fix my laptop.
I wonder you have some that you can send to me. I need it is very very bad.

    Bye,.

Using the recovery disk you can not repair the version of the OS preinstalled. Using the recovery disk, you can reinstall entire OS and give your laptop to factory settings.

All you can do is to order this disc. Please note that this is not for free.

  • Satellite Pro L550-17R - battery operating time

I am looking to buy a Toshiba Satellite Pro L550-17R. I'm afraid that the battery life is not enough for my needs. I looked at the option part: -.
    Battery high capacity - Li-ion 12 cells 9000mAh PA3727U-1BRS.

Does anyone have an idea (realistic approximation for average use) how long the run time would be with this improved battery used in conjunction with the specified model laptop?

    Thank you.

    G.

    Hi mate,

I think that it of quite difficult to say something about it. Remaining time depends on many factors:
    -Screen brightness
    -The software you use
    CPU usage-
    -etc.

But I think a battery 12 cells should give you a good time. As far as I know this would be the maximum of cells at the moment.

  • Satellite Pro L550 - 13 M - cannot run recovery of HD products

I have a new Toshiba Satellite Pro L550 - 13 M running Windows 7 and I shot this morning and he says Windows could not start and went into the Startup Repair.

The last thing I did with it was last night, when I ran RegistryBooster2 and it cleaned up the registry. I have used this utility loads of time with this and previous books and it has been fine. I guess that it caused the problem though. It backs up the registry, but I can't restore because I can't start!

Thus, after reboot a few times, he finally said "Windows cannot repair this computer automatically. If I look at Diagnostics and repair details, the journal lists all these tests, but says that they have completed successfully. I'm on the 38 repair attempt. During one of them, Startup Repair says it was a registry problem.

If I try to view advanced options for system recovery and select a UK keyboard, I get this message:

"You must login to access the System Recovery Options."

and my only option is to click an OK button to restart.

    So, I'm stuck.

I had a Windows 7 recovery CD and Startup Repair running on who arrives without error!

However, because the phone is so new, I did not create restore points or recovery discs (don't have any blank DVDs at the time).

The laptop has a HARD drive recovery partition, but I can't launch the recovery disc to access this option because of the thing "you must login" above.

I'm stuck! Anyone out there with any ideas?

    Additional details:

Cannot start in safe mode. Last known good configuration does not work. All roads lead to the Startup Repair.

38 attempt has this in the Startup Repair log:

    Root cause found:
    ----------------------------------
Startup Repair tried several times but still not determine the cause of the problem.
    ----------------------------------

Can I use the Windows 7 recovery CD to get a command prompt and show C: and D: (where recovery of HD files are), but I don't know what to do from there.

The CD is not for a Toshiba, so it does not list HD recovery option. I can only use it to run the Startup Repair (which reported no problem) or get a command prompt.

Install new OS instructions on http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD9102IR0000R01.htm and you will have new factory settings. with the settings everything will be OK again.

To use the same account of the connection and the password as in Win7 (if you have one).

  • Satellite Pro L550 - Realtek RTL8191SE Wlan connection issues

    Hello

Affected by a big problem with my WLAN connection which is ongoing for about a month.
I have problems with a very inconsistent connection.

To start, turn on the laptop of its climate 50-50 I'll successfully connect to my internet. Once connected I constantly disconnect and reconnect, never reached a point of stability, as long as possible without hitch is about 30 minutes, and after this point it will repeat the process above in one or two minutes, making it impossible internet usage.

After following various checks, I can confirm that this is NOT a router problem:

-Several other devices around the home connect without the same problem
-Have you tried the reset and restarted both modem and router without result
-Used new Ethernet cables and checked the other son of bends or damage
-Tried to change the frequency of router and the channel for better connectivity with no result
-Tried to change the location of the router, the closest pass to the laptop for a greater power of the signal without any positive results

Whenever he logs off, I go through a laborious task repetitive troubleshooting and although sometimes it solves the problem, so that it does only temporarily.

Updates on computer and controls are as follows:

-Install the latest drivers for my network card
-The latest version of the BIOS for my laptop
-J' tried UN-installing software and remove driver in Device Manager in the case of a corrupted driver, after re-booting works temporarily and then breaks down in the first 5 minutes
-Tried using windows troubleshooting, which sometimes displays a message on my gateway by default, I don't know what that means well as
-Tried to use other means of verification, connectivity doctor etc., no results
    -Tried to reset network cards
-Tried to use an earlier version of the network card to check if the new drivers were the problem - no result
-Tried resetting IP addresses IP conflict with other devices in the House, no results
    -Played hundreds of reboots

I would like to point out that when using the LAN on my laptop my connection is quite well and I have the experience without interruption, I have also contacted my ISP to ask if there is ongoing network maintenance tasks and check if the internet I receive is consistent.

    Computer laptop specifications: -.

    Toshiba Satellite Pro L550
    Network card: Realtek RTL8191SE
    OS: Windows 7 x32bit

The whole process is infuriating and I am at my wits end as to what to do, is, fuck my network card?

    NB:

This could be a problem as the dust inside my computer laptop on the map, causing interference?
The problem is much more prolific when I use Skype - might be a bandwidth issue?

Open to the suggestions of many, and any help will be appreciated.

    Thank you.

And all this occur with clean Windows 7 preinstalled that you got with your laptop (factory settings)?

  • Re: Satellite Pro L550-17R Performance Options at startup - Windows 7 32 bit

I have a Satellite Pro L550-17R and every time you start the performance Option is displayed using Win 7 32 bit
Is someone can please tell me how I prevent this.

    Thank you.

    Hello

I'm not sure what do you mean exactly by the radio Option of Performance.
But all the applications and processes including loading at the beginning can be disabled in msconfig.

In RUN type msconfig and the last tab called startup you could disable some applications is not necessary.

  • Satellite Pro L550 - cannot get 1920 x 1200 on external monitor

    Hi all

I can't get nativ resolution (1920 x 1200) to my external monitor via HDMI conection.
Catalyst or monitor settings in windows XP gives max res only 1920 x 1080 - why?

NB Satellite pro L550 (ATI 5165, hdmi), LG L245WP (hdmi). Thanks for the reply.

    Hello

Cable HDMI and the port, would support the resolution 1920 x 1200, but the fact is that if the graphics card or the graphics driver doesn t card supports this resolution, then you won't be able to choose and use.

In your case I would look in the user manual and check if the graphics card would support this resolution. If the graphic card supports the problem could be related to the graphics card driver that does not contain this resolution.
