  Reading your question a little more in detail, I doubt if you are using the Win32 GetDiskFreeSpace API function (including my previous post is the solution) of the function GetDiskSpace from the Toolbox of the programmer.

  • Look at the level of basic compression source and protégé of the data on the core target to try to come up with a number (won't be accurate but at least it's based on something).  Accuracy will depend on several factors as if retention is similar, the same agents, the cycle of the Moon, etc...
  • Take a guess
  • Look at compression on the target and base numbers protected on this
  • Give each its own repository which wastes any space and management
  • Simply use the data base used source and hope it's the same on the target (new depends on retention / accumulation)

  I was wondering if anyone can tell me what the recommendation is on the left of free space on a data store. I use 5 vRanger connection to back up my VM to another physical server. As such, I will not take snapshots 'manual '. I'm not sure if vRanger connection, running on a separate server, creates additional files on the data store.

  I've read a few threads on this site and some are advocating to let free, 20 to 25%, while that of others, offer 10% left free may be sufficient. Is there an official number for this or if anyone can share valuable experince?

  I generally recommend to have about 20% of free space on each data store. However, this depends on the activity/writes to disk during backup. vRanger connection - as well as any other backup software - create a snapshot, back up the virtual machine and then remove / commit the snapshot again. This is necessary in order to access the virtual disk files. Usually the backups are made during hours, so snapshots should not grow too much. However, you must also take into account the fact that in the case of a mistake - if the snapshot cannot be deleted - it will grow until it is deleted manually.

  Select Start, all programs, accessories, System Tools, cleaning disk to emptying your trash, delete temporary Internet files and other selected options. I recommend also you click Other Options, System Restore and delete all but the last system restore point. Run Disk Defragmenter.

  A better program of disk cleanup is cCleaner. Delete System Restore points may be important if you have little free disk space. The ability to delete them is one of the tools options. You can selectively remove those created in less important moments.

  You can use the external hard drive to transfer your data from your internal hard drive.  Cannot move system files (such as Program Files, Windows and swap files) well.  Looks like your use of the word 'memory' made reference to disk space - it normally refers to which an external drive would not affect RAM.  If you mean disk space, however, you can certainly free SPAC drive this way.

  You can create more free space in C in carrying one of the measures suggested below.

  I'd be interested to see a report of Disk Defragmenter. Open Disk Defragmenter and click analysis. Select view report, and then click Save as and save. Now find VolumeC.txt in your My Documents folder.
