VAIO rz54G backuip? restore? replace?

I have a rz54g Vaio that came with Windows XP Media center edition and now gives me some trouble. For while now, when I start or restart during POST, I get an error "the chassis fan is abnormal." What I do is to hit F2 to get the program installation then ESC and enter and it starts normally. Lately, I noticed another error before the chassis fan error that says THAT SMART was triggered and I need to back up and replace the drive. Some research online I found that there is a virus that causes this error. The last time I could get it to work with Windows, I ran an AVG scan which found 4 problems but was not able to finish because he crashed and restarted before the scan completed. I could so that he could work with a UBCD and have been able to copy almost any computer for a 1 to USB drvie. Once I'm sure I have all I want out of it, I intend to try a full restore to the way it was when I got it. At this point, I think I should know if the drive has really SMART failure.

My questions are:

If the drive is bad and needs to be replaced how can I get back the original operating system? I'm pretty sure that when my computer will display a, C and D of the road that it is the only drive that is divided to resemble two disks. Can I just copy the files that I saved on a new drive? From what I've seen on this site the original DVD discs are not ' available longer (except maybe I can email or call the service and they can make a set). "

If I can replace the drive what kind I'd get and what is the largest capacity which will take care of the machine?

That's enough for now

Joe_Photo,

  • Migrate or restore replacement device?

Hello. One of our users received a new hard drive. His old hard drive works very well, and he's still using it. We want to put his current CVD of his old hard drive to his new. I was wondering whether to choose 'Restore a CVM in a peripheral replacement', or choose "Migrate to new hardware"? Is there a significant difference between the results of either option, or a benefit of one over the other? Thank you.

Assuming that you only changed the hard drive, and the ID of the computer physical remained the same, you should do neither.

Since the wizards common, you must select Disaster Recovery, then replace the hard drive (which I understand is what you did).

You will then see a list of devices that have been formerly assigned to CVD; your device should be there. Select it and the contents of the disc will be restored.

Assuming you do not centralize readers other than the system drive (c :)) and that the old drive is connected an additional (like D :), there should be no problem - the D: drive is not damaged.))

  • Restore replace my existing OE files or update?

I recently had a minor accident of my OE message files.  Fortunately, I have a copy of DBX files that will fix it.  If I copy my backup files in my program it will remove the data that I have or is just to fill in the blanks with messages that disappeared?

You can put in the messages that you want in it. Here are some things to keep in mind to help prevent corruption of dbx files.

Do not archive mail in the receipt or sent items box. Create your own user-defined folders and move messages you want to put in them. Empty the deleted items folder daily. Although the dbx files have a theoretical capacity of 2 GB, I recommend all a 300 MB max for less risk of corruption.

Information on the maximum size of the .dbx files that are used by Outlook Express:
    http://support.Microsoft.com/?kbid=903095

After you're done, followed by compacting your folders manually while working * off * and do it often.

Click Outlook Express at the top of the the folder tree so no folders are open. Then: File | Work offline (or double-click on work online in the status bar). File | Folder | Compact all folders. Don't touch anything until the compacting is completed.

Disable analysis in your e-mail anti-virus program. It is a redundant layer of protection that devours the processors and causes a multitude of problems such as time-outs and account setting changes. Your up-to-date A / V program will continue to protect you sufficiently. For more information, see:

  • where can I find the bookmark icon in my computer

Im trying to get the icon so I can put the same bookmark in another computer.

You want to move the Firefox bookmarks on computer #1 for Firefox on computer #2?

You have two options: backup/restore and Import/Export. The difference is that a 'restoration' replaces completely any what appears on the destination system. An 'import' adds to everything that is on the destination system, and then you must rearrange bookmarks in the appropriate places.

Here is the support with the steps of how articles make to create a backup or export the file, and then how to restore or import:

    Make sense?

  • How to import bookmarks to Firefox Firefox OSX Win7?

How to import bookmarks from Win7 to my firefox OSX?

Firefox supports two different Exchange formats:

    • 'Backup' - fuller (like canned food tags) - JSON format once restored, replaces all existing bookmarks in the browser
    • 'Export' - compatible with other browsers - HTML format when they are imported, is added to any existing bookmarks in the browser

Check out these articles and see if you can get the bookmarks when you need:

To physically move the bookmarks file, you can use:

    • removable media such as a USB Flash drive
    • storage cloud, for example, Dropbox, or an attachment to an email to yourself

Finally, you could consider implementation service of Firefox sync if you want to keep the two Firefoxes synchronized. It is not necessary for a one-time transfer.

  • After the upgrade to v10 folders appear, but nothing happens when I click on the folder

I organize my favorites in all 7 or 8 files. After the upgrade to Firefox v10 a few days ago, I find that the records are still on the list but that it will be will not develop. When I open the bookmarks library and select a record, he mentions the description of sites, but no URL. I tried to restore bookmarks in before the upgrade, but I get message "cannot process the backup file. Fortunately, I also store my favorites in MS OneNote, but I don't want want to re-create if I am likely to lose them again. I also installed the Norton toolbar.

By adopting a belt and Suspenders approach allows first of all make sure you have everything backed up. Have several copies, is the best way to ensure you have the most relevant and the most recent available.

I have not personally noticed reported problems specific to the Firefox 10 updates causing problems with bookmarks. Maybe a few extension you have involved, but whatever the cause you could now have corrupted or old installed bookmarks. If it's a - problem, you can restore your bookarks ok, but if a problem persists, you will need to continue the investigation. If you continue to say daily manual backups that you know that the worst cases, is that you lose only part of a days bookmarking.

  • Video lost on Pavilion P6620f

Videos lost P6620f desktop; simple monitor went dark.  However, monitor seems to agree; at the start of "LG" symbol appears (LG monitor).  No separate video card in the machine.  Any suggestions?

Update of the results of the installation of new PCI Express x 16 video card.  Received the new card today and installed, as well as drivers, tonight; I now have the video, it seems that the problem is solved.  However, I now get a warning message indicating that the ATI Catalyst Manager is unhappy because it is incompatible with the compatible graphics card.  Apparently I can uninstall the ATI Catalyst Manager, which I suppose could finish with the warning message.  Is there a reason to not do?  By inference, I guess we can assume that the original, integrated ATI had ceased to exist as the video card restored replacement facility. -Emrys2

  • I want to restore my VAIO to factory settings, but I had to replace the D drive. Problems?

I got VPCJ113fx/b for 2.5 years.  A year ago, the door of the external drive has failed and I got a new drive (non-usine) installed.  The computer has recently developed unrelated problems (Control Panel can not 'see' two installs of IE, Windows Update runs isn't more and others).  I would like to recover the original Windows settings.  I've got Carbonite data files are no problem.  The process of rescue/restore the control panel still works even if the current D drive is out of sync with the news of factory stored on the computer?  (If I have an emergency disk, I created when the machine was new or I would try to create a set of disks I could create now.)  I'm trying to think this through, but there's just too much I do not know the answers to.)

System recovery to recover your computer to its factory settings by default using the recovery comes with the computer partition.  If your recovery partition is still intact, follow the link below.

If this does not work then you can use the recovery disk that you created, and then follow the steps on how to perform a system restore using discs of recovery from the link below.
