In accordance with article Apple here: install memory in an iMac - Apple's Support,

For models of iMac (late 2009), you can use 2 GB or 4 GB RAM SO-DIMM memory DDR3 SDRAM 1066 MHz in each slot.

The statement gives the impression that my iMac can not handle more than 8 GB of RAM. (2x4gb). is this correct?

Your iMac can handle a maximum of 16 GB of ram (4 x 4). A single note use quality a supplier like OWC or Crucial ram and avoid the bargain brands.

What charger for MacBook Pro (13 '' end 2011) since the megasafe 60w charger is no longer available?

Thank you very much for the help.

According to find the right power adapter and cable for your laptop Mac - Apple Support end 2011 MacBook Pro 13 "uses the following http://www.apple.com/shop/product/MC461LL/A/apple-60w-magsafe-power-adapter-for-macbook-and-13-inch-macbook-pro?fnode=8b which shows it as being available (at least in the United States).

If this is not available, note that you can use an adapter of higher power such as mentioned in the following extract from the first link above:

You can use a power adapter higher compatible without problem, but it will not collect your computer faster or work differently. Lower power adapters do not provide enough power.

  • View target on iMac late 2009

    Hello.

Unfortunately my iMac late2009 a big problem: the iMac works fine but I had black and artifacts are on display (i.e. on the left side of the finder window). I suspect that the graphics card has disappeared.

It seems that he is too old to be reapired, so I think to recicle my iMac as a second monitor to a new Mac or my MacBookPro 2010.

My question is: is it possible to use the iMac in target Display Mode broken if the graphics card is damaged?

    Thanks in advance

    Roberto

    Hi Robert,.

Although it is possible to do you would still experience the dark parts of the screen as it would still use its own graphics card. It could also cause crashes and random reboots. Sorry buddy.

  • Upgrade my iMac 10.1 (late 2009 model)

My family loves our iMac 10.1 (model) end 2009.  We want to move him to a better performance in speed (recently very slow using iphoto, imovie, and web browsing) and capacity (500 G HDD is occupied 85%).  There are 3 areas I want to do the upgrade.  Enjoy for some recommendation or sharing other users

    1. will join 12 G 4 G RAM (because want to keep the original 2 x 2 G). I'll add 2 x 4 G RAM.  Should what model of RAM I buy?

    2. I want to improve the disk from 500 G to 1 T.  I don't know I can't DIY after checking the You Tube.  Apple is offering this upgrade services? There are a few computer shops can do the job but I hesitate

    3. due to the improvement of capacity RAM and HARD drive, I need to update my old Snow Leopard OS to more recent and reliable version.  Should I go straight to the latest version (EL Capitan)? This new OS version will drag my old iMac to be very slow?

  • 27 "imac late 2009 gel

    Hello

I have an imac 27 "late 2009 with 16 GB of RAM which is constantly freezing. Later, I'll try to explain all the things I tried before this announcement:

    • Start the computer, everything goes well and after a few minutes, the imac freezes: I can see the screen and move the mouse but the iMac does not. I stop and restart
    • The two phases of boot, it only works the first: I see the Apple logo and progress bar until it reaches about half, disappears a moment, and instead of progress, it displays white screen.
    • The next day begins, but after a few minutes, it does the same thing.
    1. 1st attempt: reinstall the operating system with recovery
Choose the drive Macintosh HD and formatting
Computer is connected to an average installation
I turn it off, turn on, and complete the installation, but fails again once the operating system is running
    2. 2nd attempt: check the RAM
Burn a CD memtest, alt to start, choose CD and passes the test properly without crashing
Reset and the same average progress of white screen fault bar
    3. 3rd attempt: resets
      Reset the SMC, no load
      Reset the NVRAM, no-load
Boot in safe mode (the carillon and then capitalized) and start correctly
Reboot in normal mode and will not start

When I reset the SMC, instead of the white screen after flash in the middle of the progress bar, the apple logo reappears and the progress bar stays frozen

I read a lot of other posts and it seems that you need the journal of EtreCheck. I ran this tool twice (no problem - simply check and Apps are broken) since none of the profiles corresponding to my problem. Note that I had to run in safe mode because I'm not able to start normally. I don't know if this is a problem.

  • IMac late 2009 - 5 yellow bars on the screen - sometimes...

    Hi all..

I recently bought an iMac late 2009 really nice second hand.  It worked wonderfully for a few weeks and I was about to become a mac convert.

All of a sudden things have changed.  I pulled to the top of the machine first thing the morning only be greeted with lines to the bottom of the screen and a stall on a white screen.  The next day, it worked fine for a while.  Then the problem comes back for an hour or two.  Then back to yellow bars.

I pulled up to my PC and started researching and found suggestions that this could be a graphics card problem.  After some time of reading and discovery, I pulled the top of AHT, and he advised me that there is actually a problem with the machine, and it's a sensor on the HARD drive.  Then, I would expect an additional error that could somehow link to the screen and absolutely nothing.

Now, I know that historically the 27-inch late 2009 iMac screen / GPU has been examined by several different sites and forums but it is now an old machine and I don't know what to do.  What is a HARD drive failure?  Seems very unlikely but the only error listed... The flaw is GPU displayed on AHT down?  If this graphics card has received a "reformatting of oven" at a given time in its life and Ive been sold a dunce?

Any advice would be great.  I don't have an Apple store near me and I don't know if they would even look at a machine this old.

Help, please... My brief relationship was positive that ended quickly in tears!

I only noticed this problem after I upgraded to El Capitan, this is why I placed it in this area. I apologize if this is in the wrong place.

  • MacBook 13''(late-2009) slow operation.

    Hi all

I bought my macbook 13 "in 2010 and after 4-5 months of use it has started running very slowly. The ball was running constantly, apps were taking ages to start and they were usually crashing. My macbook was still under warranty so I took it on the apple support. They changed the hard drive and my macbook has been brought back to life.

I realize I should have called for a new Macbook because a year later the problem reappears. My warranty has expired so I found the patience to be the only solution.

Not to mention this assistance local Apple refused to replace the plastic surface that broke away from the bottom of the system case. The reason is that the serial number was not enough, they also need a receipt of a point association bought 5 years ago. In any case, the most important is my macbook to work properly.

I would be very grateful to anyone who wants to help!

    Help me please!

You win a lot of update you memory 2 GB is not enough for good work yosemite. You can run up to 16 GB, but you need a minimum of 4 GB.  http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/Apple_MacBook_MacBook_Pro/Upgrade/DDR3_Whi you  The user of upper memory is hellper of Google Chrome. But which is made up of all the internet plugins. Chrome can be a bit of a memory hog. You can win a lot of info when executing programs and to have LAGS, by opening the activity monitor in the utilities and see what is using the memory.

  • iMac (late 2009) as screen for Mac Mini

Hi, I want to buy a new Mac Mini, and I want to use my iMac (late 2009) as screen. I want to know if it is posible, and, if so, what cable do I need to buy

Only if it's the 27-inch model. See the following for use of the cable. It is a cable mini displayport to mini displayport.

Use your iMac as a display with the target - Apple Support Display Mode

  • Using Late 2009 Imac as external display for PC with display port 1.2

    Hi all

Thanks for your time.  I searched for a definitive answer to this question before I go ahead and make a purchase.

I have a Late 2009 Imac 27 ".  I would like to use it as an external monitor for my new PC, which is a graphics card EVGA GTX 970 with a displayport 1.2 output.  I'll be able to use a DisplayPort / mini displayport cable to connect to my Imac to use as an external monitor for my PC.

The Imac doesn't have the speed I need for photo editing but I like the contrast and the size of the screen offers.

    Any input would be appreciated!

Discover > use your iMac as a display with the target - Apple Support Display Mode

The way I read the article, target Display Mode only supports the Mac iMac connection.

  • iMac (late 2009) 27-inch vertical streak on the right side

iMac (late 2009) 27-inch vertical streak on the right side. Oddly enough it is still there even on the gray splash screen. How much is it? I tried restarts it, Vpram etc, but still there. Always in the same place. Is a graphics card out or the display itself. Should I make an appointment with an Apple Retail Store?

Strange, strange! This mysterious line disappeared miraculously se today!

I am delighted, but at a loss for why it appeared and why he disappeared.

The only idea I have is THAT HEAT could have something to do with it.

I look forward to any comments on this mystery.
