Virtual MACHINE starts automatically after a power outage of the entire site?

Hello

We use ESXi 5.5.

If there is a power for the datacenter failure, ESXi hosts must be restarted when power is resumed.

We wonder if VMs will be launched automatically to the top?   If not, this means that we must allow the "starting the Virtual Machine / stop option.

If we put a number of virtual machines in "automatically start", such as VM1, VM2, VM3 on ESXi Server one, VM4 VM5 ESXi Server b.   Virtual machines are migrated between ESXi servers and how they can keep the boot sequence?

Your opinion is requested.

Dear Tony,

I ask you to create a vApp and configure accordingly on your vCenter boot order.

Thanks for your advice. He agrees with your saying that the start / stop sems to be buggy.

It's only disable it every time that you enable VMware HA.

But it works (if enabled) and may be useful to define how the system starts up.

    Hello, I use a Macbook pro 8.1 13 "(A1278)"

  • Virtual MACHINE starts in EFI environment after crash

    Hello world

I'm breaking my head on something that looks like a bug to me.

A few weeks ago, the ESXi host on that I was running VMs crushed (power fail) and after powering back and from virtual machines on this stand-alone host, one of the virtual machines did not start correctly.

This machine virtual runs Windows Server 2012 and booted up this time in the EFI environment.

After some research, the EFI configuration is gone. When opening the Boot Manager Maintenance upward and choose 'Start configuration Options', no options are listed. When you add a new boot option and using the backup function, the settings are lost instantly. When comparing the parameters with any other SMV 2012 I have running, Miss me a lot of configuration such as startup options and some driver options.

These two options will not save after closing the menu for adding these options. When you choose 'Start from a file' I can start the virtual computer by using the 'VOLUME LABEL\EFI\Boot\bootx64.efi No.' file. After the virtual machine restarts, it will be to the EFI environment.

It is very difficult to find information about the EFI BIOS so I hope anyone here have experience with it.

I even tried to restore the VM about 2 weeks before the accident, but even with the files of the virtual machine will start in EFI environment with no settings at all. So maybe the problem caused earlier; very weird! Also not to be able to save the new settings in the environment EFI seems very strange to me.

    Thanks for the replies! =)

    Hi René,.

Hmmm... There is something of very, very wrong with this file NVRAM.  Looks like that the power failure has corrupted the file NVRAM in a way that confuses the firmware irreparably.  I consider this new next week (next year!) when I'm back in the office and will introduce an internal bug report if I find something that we can make it more robust.

Although I generally recommend it not for VMS EFI, in your situation, your best course of action is probably the virtual computer power off, remove the file .nvram to the directory of the virtual machine (or rename it to something else, if you want to be extra careful), and power then it powered.  A fresh .nvram file will automatically create the virtual machine starts.  For the most part, reasonably normal Windows installations, the virtual machine must then be started automatically in the operating system installed.

(For the benefit of other readers of the forum who may come across this thread, I repeat: do not delete a virtual machine EFI NVRAM memory, unless you understand the consequences!)  "It seems that there is rather than remove the NVRAM in this particular situation and very few others.)

Please let me know if that gets things going again!

And I'm going to one of our regulars of the forum, WoodyZ, avoid having to make his regular situation comment: If you haven't already done so, you can consider investing in an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) to keep your system running through power cuts or to allow at least a normal instead of a hardware failure stop.

    See you soon,.

I'm under vSphere Client 4.1.0 and VMware ESXi 4.1.0. I'm having a problem to find my vSphere client where to change the VM to restart automatically after a power failure. • Names of Virtual Machine files changed after SVMotion

To date I've seen point interesting when I was trying to SVMotion. Here it goes

I have a virtual machine called base01 (as it is show VC), but the real name of this virtual machine is ROMBASE02 (the console I see all files including VMX, vmdk etc...). I found this, because I tried to do with unsuccessful SVMotion. later, I tried to make SVMotion with ROMBASE02.vmx and success. After completing of SVMotion I found that all the files of the virtual machine has changed for base01.

How it is possible an idea?

as Jean-Marie said, if you have a vCenter VM that does not match the data store named naming convention, if you move (cold migrate or sVMotion) the virtual machine in another data store, it will change the datstore file to match the name of the object in vCenter.

  • Change tracking (CTK) block is supported for this virtual machine, but was refused. This will increase the CPU proxy and consumption of IOP.

I have problems with a client of VMware image-level in an EMC Avamar backup.  So far, we have not been able to find information about this message in the backup log file.  It is originally the backup to take a very long period of time (on average 10-11 hours).

2014-02-28 14:20:57 avvcbimage < 14681 > Info: change tracking (CTK) block is supported for this virtual machine, but was refused. This will increase the CPU proxy and consumption of IOP.

We cannot determine why CBT is "denied".  Has anyone here run across this issue before or seen any other type of backup VMware image have denied CBT?

Everything I checked watch that CBT is successfully activated since the file vmx for the customer to the Avamar config.

ESXi host is Enterprise Plus 4.1.0 260247

After spending some time on this issue, the ultimate resolution withdrew the Avamar vm and then add it again.  After that, CBT began to work properly.  It seems that there is a parameter that has been 'stuck' pertaining to this virtual machine that wasn't behaving properly.

  • Videos YouTube refreshing automatically after 3-5 seconds. The quality of resolution options also disappear when it arrives. What is the cause?

After having clicked on a youtube video, it will play for 3 to 5 seconds. Then the video will refresh (not the entire site). The device that allows to change the quality will always be there, but when I click on it, all the quality options disappear. Then the video plays well, but I'm stuck it watch in 480 p. It happens not on chrome or even when I play a youtube video in a private window! It started to happen about a week ago and it gets really annoying to watch 480 p videos and listen to the first few seconds 3 to 5 of each video twice.

    Welcome to the forums!

Convert it to a virtual machine (right click on guest and choose the appropriateoption), move it through the migration feature (right-click Guest, and then choose "Migrate") and convert into a model (right click on guest again and choose to convert to a template).

  • How to stop a virtual machine to automatically close after a period of inactivity

I have a VM 2012 server acting as a domain controller in a test environment.  I do not work on it a lot, but he must run as I work on test VMs (W7 and W8).

The problem is after a period of inactivity, the server vm stop all services and stops.  I did some research and found some vague allusions to a script that can be changed in vmware tools, but I am not able to start a GUI tools to look at again.  I have re-installed the tools, but still cannot open any type of interface to work with the tools, and I don't even know if this is the right place to resolve this problem.

Also has anyone seen this problem?

What is a facility properly licensed and activated Windows Server 2012?

  • Detect if a virtual machine if you really put power off or power on?

    Hello friends,

I am writing a few scripts and (mute) I leaned on the 'poweredstate' value to determine if a computer virtual is ready for an interview. I have now found that if a virtual machine is receiving and I start a power > reviews of the judgment, the State proceeds immediately to PoweredOff even as the VM operating system stops again.  This causes me any questions because I want that totally off virtual machine.

    Example: $powerstate = ((get-vm_|_where_{$_.name-like_$variable}).powerstate)

Please direct me to a more reliable way to determine if the virtual computer is turned off "all the way".

    Thank you

    Scott

    A ping would be sufficient.

In PowerShell v3, you have the handy Test-Connection for that cmdlet.
