  • Virtual machine locked... can not find the lock file

Sorry if this was picked up elsewhere, but I'm relatively new to the Mac and VMware, and my search proved fruitless, so I thought I'd try to post. The situation is the following:

I'm under VMware 2.0 on a MacBook Pro, and my computer virtual running Windows XP Pro. My Mac has does not respond this morning (on the left in the night market) and if I pressed the power button to restart manually. Once I did, started upward as per normal, but when I opened VMware to start my VM it tells me the my Win XP Pro has been locked. After finding several documented cases of this, I went looking for the lock file, but it is not in my folder /Users/ [name] / Documents/Virtual Machines. When I try to take ownership, he falls down, while it provides a Configuration file: /Users/ [name] / Documents/Virtual Machines.localized/Windows XP/Professional.vmwarevm Windows XP Professional.vmx.

I activated my finder to show all files in the folder (http://www.macworld.com/article/51830/2006/07/showallfinder.html), but still don't see the locking file. I searched (using the projector) for files hard .vmx and .lck .lock, nothing helps. I've seen a lot of discussion of the use of Terminal to solve this problem, but I have little (no) familiarity with Terminal Server or Unix, so I'm a bit wary of doing.

Can someone tell me where I could find this lock file so that I can delete, or if not, how can I solve this problem?

    Thank you.

CTRL-click on the entry in the Virtual Machine library and select Show in Finder and then ctrl-click on the packaging of the Virtual Machine and select the content of the package.

Close the merge and then delete the .lck files/files in the package of the Virtual Machine.

  • DV7 display failure

My computer locked when the battery is low.  It put off, rebooted and got a black screen.  I could tell the computer started, but could not do anything to display on the screen.  I tried the fix static - take out the battery, press power button, etc.-, but nothing has worked.  Trying to hook up an external monitor and found the computer worked well.  Once I discovered that it was just the laptop screen, I called support thought that my warranty was expired after 5 days.  Support was not helpful because I was past my warranty and I didn't pay for the customer service.  So, I sent the CEO and actually received a call from the "Executive customer service."  They gave me a case manager, who seemed very useful.  It turns out that it was passed only 2 days and said that it was virtually a lock that they would cover it under warranty and I had received a call back within the hour.  After that I went with a couple of calls over the next two weeks, I was told that my application was rejected without any other explanation.

I am very disappointed, especially since I used my laptop only a few hours each week to check your e-mail or surf the internet.  I use dv4 my fiancé right now, and I am waiting for this same problem infecting that computer.  I hold hope that HP will recognize the number of us frustrated with this same problem and we cover through a program of extended warranty or recall.  Until then, I will continue to vocalize my displeasure with HP products and services.  If you hear anything that could help, let me know.  Thank you.

After 6 months of not using my laptop, I found a post through a google search that has worked for me.  My screen was not working, but the computer was working fine using an external hard drive.  I tried 2 things easy, and I don't know who fixed, so try this one first: while turning the laptop on and in the starter set, squeeze the computer to ensure good connections of the card player or hard graphics (I think that is what worked for me).  The second thing I did open the panels to expose the hard drive and the graphics card and removed a small, round lithium battery and succeeded him.

  • Added a HBA & LUN to one node of a cluster;   HBA LUN, but is LUN unavailable for a new VMFS datastore

We have two servers ESXi V4 in a HA/DRS cluster, with each of them having a FC HBA and access to the same database unique.  The cluster is managed by vCenter 5.5.0

I added a second FC HBA to one of these servers, and after reboot the HBA sees the LUN very well.  But when I go to add the new storage, there is none is available.

    I'm trying this via: vCenter-> select host-> configuration-> storage-> storage-> add StorageType = disk/Lun

My plan was to have a virtual machine on a server, which would have access to the new data store for a backup repository.   I had the intention to have the virtual machine locked to this server and I didn't expect any HA migration etc.

Now, I get the feeling that this asymmetry of storage in a cluster is not supported.  Any ideas?

    Thank you... Lyle

    > I added a second FC HBA to one of these servers...

I guess you meant that you added another logic unit number! This LUN did not previously contain other data, i.e. a partition table for another system of file/partition type? In some cases, you may need to disable this 'old' front of partition tables to create a GUI data store. In other cases it can work when you use the vSphere Client and connect to the host directly to create the data store.

  • Improved performance in vCenter

Hello all - I hope that the community can help out me with this one.  It is related to the performance of vCenter.

VirtualCenter arrived at the point where it's VERY slow almost all the time and I cannot understand why.  As examples, in the computers view models, and virtual VC locks up often for anywhere from 20 to 60 seconds, just by selecting one data center to another.  RVTools almost 20 minutes to come.  Also, if I try to install VeeamONE or VeeamBackup, they are slow slow is not usable and sometimes lower VC (so Veeam is not running - I just wanted to give an example).  Finally, if I restart the server (VM) VirtualCenter, it can sit to 'Apply the settings of the computer' for about 20 minutes.

I support a vSphere environment that consists of the following

vCenter: 5.0 Update 1 - running on a virtual of Win2k8R2 computer with 8vCPUs and 20 GB of memory

SQL Server VC: 2008R2 SQL - running on a VM Win2k8R2 with 8vCPUs and 32 GB of memory

    MUV: VM dedicated

    VC Web: VM dedicated

    * The four run VMs on a dedicated Cluster 2 nodes 'management' which consist of two HP DL380p G8s DualProcs & a lot of memory. No other virtual machines running on the host & loans are all practically zero.

He currently manages 316 ESXi hosts (all 5.0 Update 1) and about 6000 virtual machines.  When VC was installed, I chose the "Large" scale that we will add more than about 200 guests & about 1000 VMs more next year.  The use of the Cisco Nexus1000v ESXi hosts (excluding the 2 cluster nodes mgmt - those that are on the standard vswitches).

The hosts and virtual machines are in data centers about 20 & 30 clusters, physically dispersed across the country (US).

Any thoughts on how to make it better?

    Thanks in advance!

From there, should I run the script to purge old data from the other KB, or should I expect to see improved performance immediately?

Yes, but... To do the purge your vCenter Server Service must be stopped.  Always better this offline.  We usually do maintenance on our vCenter DB about each quarter.

  • Cannot power on VM.

Q.) Impossible to turn on the virtual machine, how to fix?

(Rep.) If the virtual machine is running in a cluster of esx servers, sometimes it will not be under tension. Why, because the files associated with this virtual machine are locked by the host at run time. So when you try to VMotion virtual machine from one host to another host, the first host releases these files and locked again by the second host.

So, what is a lock here, and why it's happening?

Locking is nothing, but the record of a virtual machine with a host. This happens every time when the virtual machine is hosted on a host computer. This is useful to prevent access to the same vm for the remaining hosts in the cluster.

Why the virtual machine fails when you try to turn it on?

When the files associated with this virtual machine are locked by a host, it will not be under tension. At this time, you must unregister the virtual machine from the host using the vmware-cmd utility.

I found the above on http://www2.isupportyou.NET/2010/06/VMware-interview-questions-tips.html

I have a question on the answer above. (Marked in italics) During VMotion files are not moved from one host to another right? as we use a shared storage.

Can someone please, the answer above is right? If this isn't the case, please provide us with the right?

    Thank you

    Prashant

A virtual computer files are locked by the ESXi host when it is running - vmotion shouldn't have an effect on the locks on the file all that will change is ESXi Host which maintains the locks.

And if a virtual machine can not power on because that a file is locked error message will contain this information - the most common reason for this error is someone has created another machine at some point and using the VMDK file for it, and when you tgry to power on the original virtual machine locked error message is displayed.

From my experience, the main reasons why a virtual machine can not turn on include:

    1. Not enough space on the data store to create the vmkernel swap
    2. Not enough resources to satisfy a reservation
    3. Lack of resources of the HA cluster to failover configured support
  • How can I access a guest on a shared storage to another host?

I want to better understand fail the course and the first thing I want to do is the following.

I installed a guest disk storage fibre channel. I want to remove it from a host, and hosted it on another host.

How can I go about it?

    Mike

With your two hosts of ESXi, you will be able to access the same LUN.  On host 2, browse the data store, right-click on the VMX file and select Add to the inventory.  You can have virtual machine saved on both hosts, but the host that is running the virtual computer locks the files if you will not be able to accidentally start the virtual machine.

You can also consider adding the vCenter server to manage your hosts together.  Until the end of April, you can get 3 licenses VC agent for US $500 and vCenter Foundation.

  • A I move or copy the VM? I have neither. Now what?

I got my Mac connected (the GPU has gone wrong) and she came back with all the virtual machines 'locked '. I unlocked an and tried to run, but the merger request now that I have moved or copied the VM, even if I don't have neither. My guess is should I choose 'copy' but I wonder what impact this will have, especially with regard to activation / license within the virtual machine. What may have caused change tis? What is a permissions problem due to some kind of diagnosis that could occur while they fixed my Mac?

If the repair center replace your motherboard, this could change things such as Fusion thought that your virtual machines are on a different computer. You probably want to "move" - see http://blogs.vmware.com/teamfusion/2008/10/vmware-fusion-3.html for a description of each option as a result.

  • Virtual PC 2007, former program back (PSPICE), Hardware Lock

When I bought my new PC with Vista Business 64 bit (SP2, now), I didn't know that I could not run my old program back (PSPICE). Replacement cost of the software is $ 5000. I would like to find a way to run this software on this machine (I keep my old XP 32-bit, SP3 machine alive do turn this software). I tried DOSbox, but it doesn't seem to be able to read the material lock (connected to the serial port). So I was wondering if this Virtual PC 2007 might work. I wanted to just ask you the question before going through the installation process. Thank you

You could try Disk2VHD (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/ee656415.aspx)...  With it, you can clone your XP machine in a virtual machine, and then boot from your Vista machine to the clone.  I don't know if he's going to read the serial port.  You also need to activate the clone.

Alternatively, you can ask here (http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itprovirt/threads), which has all the VPC experts there.

  • Windows Virtual PC integrated with components lock me out of my WinXP - error of OEM comments - "the system could not log. Make sure that your user name and domain are correct... »

With my new desktop Windows 7 hardware configuration, I decided (before you consider VMware Player) to retry Windows Virtual PC; but instead of using Windows XP Mode (which is useless because the disk is inaccessible), I decided to use my own Windows XP Pro OEM. [I use it for games that won't play on Win7.  Security issues are also irrelevant, because for these games, I'm not likely to use the Web.  Of course, I always Windows Security Essentials in my OEM customers.]

The problem here is, whenever I have to Activate my integration, features VPC opens as if the Windows XP Mode have been installed (it is not); and when the screen is turned on, it asks my user name and password.  I tried to use the name and the password that I entered when installing my XP OEM; but I get this message:

"The system could not log.  Make sure that your user name and domain are correct.  Type your password again.  Letters in passwords must be entered using the proper case. »

How is it that I can't access my Windows XP OEM guest when the integration features are enabled?  Only when they are disabled can I activate my OS; invited but it's counterproductive, because I won't be able to move items from my host in my comments.  Once more, if I should decide to use VPC as my host VM for Linux Ubuntu/Kubuntu, what chance is there that the activation of the integration features will lock out me my Linux guest?

Another thing: in the Start Menu under Windows Virtual PC folder I have shortcuts for ' Windows Virtual PC ' or 'Virtual Machines' (according to the Win7 version I use, 32-bit or 64-bit); but I also have "Windows XP Mode", I have not installed.  How is that possible?  I checked the shortcut, and point it to rundll32.exe.  Should I just get rid of the shortcut, or I will incur damage to my VPC if I do?

  • Locked on the XP virtual machine within the Windows 7 host

Not running Virtual Machine XP in Windows 7 to 9 months no problem.

Left on Virtual Machine PC open, went to lunch, when I came back the screen went black and white and did not.  I rebooted.  Win 7 is running normally, but now have the following message when I open the Virtual Machine.  (BTW: someone other than me has access to this computer)

When I try to open a session normally I start by getting this error message:

"The integration features have been disable" close this window and I get the following.

This computer is in use and has been locked.  Only the Virtualxp-xxx XPMUser or an administrator can unlock this computer.

This message is displayed in the virtual machine window, BUT!  The window is not active.  I can't read the information.

I searched many forums and that you find exactly the same problem.

I opened the settings of virtual window and tried everything I can think of.

I have screenshots of the menus and things I tried, but don't know how to post them here.

Help!  I need a very advanced Geek!

    Thanks in advance,

    Conrad

It is a known problem with the Windows XP Virtual Machine.

In the future if you come accorss this question here, that's what you can do.

    * Go to your folder of user account > My Virtual Machines. Click once on the XP Mode of Windows to highlight and in the menu bar, you will notice the settings option. Clicking on it will open the settings of the Virtual Machine window (Make sure VM is stopped to make changes). It should look something like this http://i884.photobucket.com/albums/ac43/shetty_akash/VirtualMachineDefaultsettings.png

    * Try to start the Virtual Machine if it invites still the user name password click on tools bar menu in Windows XP mode VM window, and then click enable integration features.

Let me know if you face this problem again and the steps above don't solve the problem.

  • Storage test 55 certification vmotion, storage vmotion fails with "Could not lock file" on the virtual machine during storage vmotion

In my view, that it is a known problem in ESXi 5.5 Update 2 release notes, someone knows a solution yet? This is an excerpt from the release notes:

    • Attempts to perform live storage vMotion of virtual machines with RDM disks can fail
Storage vMotion of virtual machines with RDM disks can fail and virtual machines can be considered in turned off of the State. Attempts to turn on the virtual machine fails with the following error:

      Cannot lock the file

      Workaround: No.

VMware support for the record said that the patch will update 3, it is known as an intermittent problem. Finally, it happened to me on the 9th attempt.

  • Implement the deployment of Machine virtual Windows Server 2012 with a data Bit Locker encryption?

    Hi all

Is it possible to implement the feature data Bit Locker encryption on my Virtual Machine to Windows Server 2012 Std on the Platform VMware ESXi 5.1 vSphere update 1 ?

The hypervisor is currently running on servers HP Blade BL 460 c G8 . Read well the hardware specification: http://h18001.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/14208_na/14208_na.pdf I see that he has taken a TPM installed on the blade, but I don't know how to make sure that it is activated or used by the Virtual Machine?

Any kind of help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance

I had a few goes at it and it's not like you can virtualize a TPM. It would make sense if it was the case - the secure TPM was not designed to manage multiple instances of the OS.

I ended up making USB passthrough on a USB stick and have the Bitlocker key stored on this stick as a demo. Certainly not a transaction supported, but it showed that the storage of key seems to be the only issue.
