  • Windows 7 seems to have unexplained memory use high after a scan of viruses of several hard drives.

    My computer:

    • 6 GB of installed memory, normal use is about 1.5 GB
    • 3 hard disks of the computer (OS [Raid 0]. 2 data readers)
    • Windows 7 64 bit

    Problem:

    • After analysis the entire computer, the use of memory up to 3.5 GB of jumps and stay until the computer is restarted.
    • Research in the Task Manager and resource monitor shows the memory used, but running programs don't add to what be close to 3.5 GB
    • I tested it with AVG and Avira antivirus, and it happens with both. Then he would lead me to believe it's a matter of Windows.

    Troubleshooting:

    • Tried it with several antivirus, same problem with ones I've tried.
    • Scanned just the OS partition without significant increase in memory usage.
    • Scanned two data discs. Memory usage has jumped about 1 GB during the analysis of the first hard drive and another 1 GB when on the second disc. Use of memory are remained high, once the completed scan. Subsequent analyses retains high memory usage.

    Question:

    • What is causing this behavior? Indexing, or is it some sort of memory leak?

The answer can be found here.

  • Virus on external HARD drive - SwitchFK.exe-infected Email - Worm.Win32.Nyxem.e

Toshiba external hard drive is configured with two partitions. Main is 290 GB for backup data.
Small partition shows as a CD drive and contains the ONSPEC program (which I don't use).

The Shield Deluxe continuous anti-virus program to tell me there is a virus affecting a file in the small partition. The file affected (allegedly) is \Driver\SwitchFK.exe.

The virus is supposed to be Email - Worm.Win32.nyxem.e
I can not remove this file or even the program Onspec. Setup as a CD player gives me a message saying that the disk (the small partition) is not able to write to.

Even tried using Linux (Knoppix), but could not do the thing to remove.
So I have a password called drive, which seems to be a bad guy.

    Any ideas, please!

    Hello

Antivirus Center is a fake anti-spyware from the same family as the Internet Protection. This malware is installed on your computer through the use of Trojans and fake scanner pages that pretend to be updates for Adobe Flash. When the center of the Antivirus is installed on a computer it will be configured to start automatically when Windows starts. Once started, it will run a fake scan of your computer and can say that there are many present infections. If you try to delete one of these infections tell with the program it will state that it is unable to do until you buy it. As none of the infection files actually exist on your computer, please disregard these analytical results and do not buy the program.

  • System Restore and Norton anti-virus (WIN 7)

    Hello

I was wondering if anyone had a solution or thought about this challenge: when I go to restore a system restore time, I get an error message indicating that it cannot restore because of an anti-virus program.   Does this mean I have to disable the program before anti-virus I try to restore the system?  And I have to disable the anti-virus program when I create a new restore Point?

    Thank you

Norton products have a safety feature that prevents outside programs change the Norton product. This security feature can prevent the Windows system restore from changing Norton files, which translates as a "Restoration incomplete" message

I had a virus on my hard drive that seems impossible to remove so I used DBAN to clean the disc. I have a disc under license of Windows XP Home Edition I used several times on this computer - an IBM ThinkPad T42. The player seems to be erased, but now when I try to install Win XP it goes through the formatting process I get a message that says that the formatting may not be completed and the reader can be corrupted or damaged. I tried several times, including the variant of the size of the partition, but I get the same message.

  • Re: Satellite won't start because of the virus

One of my computer got a virus and it was spent on my Toshiba Satellite laptop by a USB.

Now when I turn on my laptop, the screen lights up, but remains empty (except the mouse).

I tried system restore - it did not work. I had three points to restrore - and each of them said that the restoration of the system did not work properly due to a system error.

I checked also the memory and everything - but I'm not avoiding the recovery of the system (the one where all the files will be deleted) that I desperately need to keep my files.

What can I do to solve my problem?

    Hello

I doubt that a virus could cause this problem
I mean the virus can damage the operating system pre-installed, but the laptop has yet to start.
The Toshiba recovery disc formats the entire HARD drive, and in this case the virus must be erased from the HARD disk too

But if you are not able to reinstall the OS and are not able to start using disks bootable like Win XP, Linux or Toshiba Recovery disk so I assumed that this problem could be linked to the issue of the material and not to any viruses on your HARD drive.

Then try to reinstall the OS and check it out!

  • How to remove virus Hotfix.exe?

I have not downloaded anything recently, nor have, I opened risky e-mails.  Today in the middle of a conversation, a pop up came saying I had a Trojan horse.  Of course, I closed the window pop up, knowing it was probably spyware trying to hide itself as an anti-virus.  Then I noticed a new program on my desktop.  Reflection point. My PC froze and I was forced to restart.  Now it starts whenever I start my PC, even in safe mode.  I can't remove it because it is still being used... I can't open my task manager to end the process, because the program blocks.  Please tell me how I can remove this virus from my hard drive.  I have NO idea where it came from and he did nothing else than grief...

    Thank you very much

If it happened recently, run system restore to restore the computer to an earlier date:

Restart the computer and start typing the key F8, select Safe mode with command option. If you are prompted to select an operating system, use the arrow keys to select the right pair and press ENTER. Log in as administrator or with an account that has administrator credentials. At the command prompt, type % systemroot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe, and then press ENTER. Follow the prompts to restore your computer to an earlier date.

    Hello

    1. who is the administrator of the computer?

    3. What do you mean by "When I tried to wipe my drive hard so what if my computer locked up on me before I could finish saying that I have to enter a user name and password"?

    4. you try to reinstall Windows?

Method 1: Test the problem in safe mode.

Check if you receive these error messages in safe mode. Visit the link below to find out how to start the computer in safe mode.

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/start-your-computer-in-safe-mode

If you are able to start the computer in safe mode, perform the system restore and check.

Method 2: Run the system restore.

    What is system restore?

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/what-is-system-restore

Important: System Restore will return all your files non-system as documents, email, music, etc., to a previous state. These files of types are completely affected by the restoration of the system. If it was your intention with this tool to recover a deleted file to non-system, try using a file instead of system restore recovery program.

Method 3: Execution of analysis online.

Important: All by performing the analysis on the hard drive, if bad sectors are found on the hard drive when scanning try to repair this area if all available on which data may be lost.
