Vista and KB977165

is this the patch causing blue screens on XP KB977165 systems need to be removed if downloaded on a Vista system?  My system works fine, but only the surface of the patch later problem?

This update works fine, XP failures are caused by malicious software!

The attachment contains a fix for this problem for Vista and Windows 7.

[The patch does not work for Windows 8, 8.1, or 10 x 64 systems.  There are efforts to this address, if a solution is developed it will be shown here.  [{Edit - I did not progress by getting the patch to run in Windows 8 x 64.}]

First of all make sure that the driver for the installed printer.  If the driver has not been installed go to start devices and printers, add printer, the local printer, choose the appropriate port (for the converters, USB-parallel, the port likely USB001: or maybe USB002 :), then click Windows Update then choose HP for the manufacturer and select the appropriate printer.)

Apply the patch as follows: log in to the computer with an administrator account.  Download the patch by clicking on this link or on the trombone at the end of this post.  Save the hotfix on your computer, then unzip it.  Then, copy the three DLL files in the following directory: %windir%\system32\spool\drivers\x64\3

Note that %windir%\System32 is a system variable that points to the location of the Windows directory. For most systems it will be C:\Windows.  You can click Start, computer, and type %windir%\system32\spool\drivers\x64\3 in the address bar and it is in the right place.

This can be done from a DOS command prompt if BACK is opened with the "run as Administrator" command or to explore with a copy and paste.  Depending on your UAC settings, you may need to provide confirmation.  Also allow existing files to be replaced if you are prompted.

This patch is not necessary and should not be applied to a 32-bit version of Vista or Windows 7.

Thanks to extraordinary Microsoft engineer Alan Morris forguidelines for patch.

Update - here is that of the more detailed installation instructions:

Download the patch on the DJ_Patch.zip at the bottom of the page and save it on your computer.  Now click on the file and open it, and then extract the fix in a directory that is easy to find. (I use c:\temp. If this directory does not exist you can create it as follows: open the administrative BACK prompts by clicking Start, all programs, accessories, and then right-click on CMD. EXE and select run as administrator. Click in the DOS window, and then type the following command:

    MD c:\temp

    CD \temp

Now extract the patch files in the c:\temp directory (all, extract c:\temp chose as a destination).

[Update - Windows security settings can prevent these files from being used, please open computer, type c:\temp in the address bar and then right click on each of the dll files and select Properties.]  If there is a message indicating the properties file has been downloaded from the internet and can be blocked and then unlock the file before continuing.]

Then, click back to the administrative DOS prompt and type the following: (the green stuff are comments, do not type them...)

*. DLL DIR (just to check that the files are there, it should list hpvdb720.dll, hpvdb820.dll and hpwm5db1.dll and perhaps others).

Net stop spooler (ensures that the files are not in use.)

Copy hpvdb720.dll C:\windows\system32\spool\drivers\x64\3 (this is for the Deskjet 710/712/720/722)

Copy hpvdb820.dll c:\windows\system32\spool\drivers\x64\3 (this covers the Deskjet 820 and 822)

    Hpwm5db1.dll c:\windows\system32\spool\drivers\x64\3(this covers the Deskjet 1000 copy)

    NET Start Spooler

    Output

[Edit - note that these DLL files will already be in the directory.  You will get a warning asking if it's OK to replace the files, say "Yes".]

At this point, the patch is installed and ready to print.

Note that here printers do not support USB connections, they have only the parallel ports. [Edit - if your printer has a parallel port to use, it will be probably much less problematic than the use of a converter USB / parallel].   If you use a make you converter USB / parallel it is supported in your operating system.  The following messages are reported by cables USB-parallel that are supposed to work in Windows 7.   A driver is required for the converter USB / parallel besides the driver of the printer.  For converters supported, it is usually provided automatically in Windows 7.  Note: the appropriate to select for USB-parallel converter port is often USB001:.  I've heard of cases where the port was USB002: or LPT3: as well.  If the port you are using is unable (after applying the fix) try to change the port by going to start, devices and printers, right-click on your printer and select printer properties, then click the Ports tab.

If you use Windows 7 do the following: log in as a user with the administrater properties.  [The following assumes that you are using IE as your browser] Click on the here link and select "Save".   Once the download is complete, select "Open folder", then right-click on the DJ_patch.zip file and select extract all.   If extract all is not an option, then click on "Open with" and select Windows Explorer.

Leave the default directory and check the box "Show extracted files when you are finished", excerpt.   Click Start, computer, and type % windir%\system32\spool\drivers\x64\3.  Arrange the windows so that you can access the two parts of the window.  Go in the first pane and select the three files dll, hpvdb720.dll, hpvdb820.dll and hpwm5db1.dll.  Now drag and drop them to the % windir%\system32\spool\drivers\x64\3 window, select copy and answer to 'replace' in the dialog box.

Note: %windir%\System32 is a system variable that points to the Windows directory.  For most systems it will be C:\Windows, but it can vary depending on the configuration of NDO of hardware configuration of the computer.  If you type %windir%\SysWoW64\cmd.exe in the address bar in Explorer or in start, search programs and files, it will find the right directory.

  • Differences between Vista and Windows XP BIOS on Satellite A200 - 13 M

    Hello!

I'm new to the forum, so I apologize if already, this question has been asked.
I have a Satellite A200 - 13 M (PSAE6) with windows xp. As my computer crash, I send in the recovery and I pick it up today. I've noticed that people who fix my computer Flash the bios with the 1.70v bios for Vista...

I would like to know if they are the differences between a bios for vista and one for xp?
As I have Xp installed, can I Flash the bios with a bios designed for xp? (5.30v)

    thx a lot.

The difference between the BIOS is BIOS XP allows the FN XP keys and some other features, so the same does the Vista BIOS. There are other things of compatibility based intaglio the BIOS.

In your case, please install the BIOS for WIndows XP.

    Welcome them

  • NB100 and graphics issues in Vista and Windows 7

    Hi all.

I have two NB100s and I wanted to upgrade to Windows 7. Everything went well until what the graphics driver has been loaded. Responses of the screen were as refresh once per second 5, then also the system froze for a few seconds - impossible to work on it. The case even on the two NB100s and even with the new drivers from Windows update. I'm curious to know what is the problem, because a lot of guys have written that they are running windows 7 and everyting is ok right after installation. I tried Windows Vista and the same situation has occurred. The only way I can use it with Windows 7 is to use the XP drivers. But then the aero glass does not. I just got idea if there is no problem with the new bios 1.6. It seems that other older guys NB100 and use Windows 7. Could someone help me? Has anyone tried Windows 7 with bios 1.6? THX.

    Hello!

I think the problem is that you are using a beta version of the operating system and not a final version and these errors are normal because nobody can say that Windows 7 beta runs perfectly and without problems on all laptops or computers.

However, see the Intel Web site for the latest drivers. Perhaps there is a newer version than on the Windows Update Web site.

  • is their any difference between the appearance of firefox 5.0 in vista and xp?

I see a picture different firfox 5.0 in the site relative to the one im using it.

It varies a little. If you have never installed Firefox before 5, so Vista and 7 you will probably get the orange Firefox (abbreviated menus) button while in XP you get the classic menu bar. However, it is easy to switch between them.

If you want the classic menu bar, press the Alt key to display it, then

Menu view > toolbars > check the Menu bar

If you would like the orange button in Firefox, then

Menu view > toolbars > uncheck the Menu bar

The menu toolbars is also available as a pop-up when you right to the classic menu bar, or an empty area of the bar tabs, or from various places on the other toolbars.

    ---

Other than that, the user interface pretty much look the same, reversing the effects of weird translucent window in Vista/7.

  • Vista and Tecra S1 - need new Display Driver

    Hi all

I hope you can help me.
I installed Vista Ultimate on my Toshiba Tecra S1 (of control), but I have no correct video driver. Only for Windows XP Home display-ts1-xp-614106476 driver is not accepted by Vista and my Tecra with Videodriver standard but graphic short is very slow.

    Is there a solution?

Thanks a lot for your answer

    Regards Wolfgang

    Hello

To my knowledge, the Tecra S1 was delivered with the graphics card of 32 MB ATI MOBILITY RADEON 9000 graphics card.
On the Toshiba page you will certainly find no Vista drivers for this device.

I think 3rd websites and goggling in internet research is your last resort

  • How can I recover my Vista and remove Windows?

Hi, my daughter send me Windows 7 since the Switzerland and said it can be installed in 3 PC, I install and now can not register because it is not the case and I need to remove the Windrow and revert to Vista 32, I download the recovery disc for my Toshiba but how I can recover my Vista and Windows delete & is not unclear to me. I was told that it is very easy to do if you know how.

    > I have download the my Toshiba Recovery disk
I put t know what you downloaded, but you have not downloaded a Toshiba Recovery disk because the recovery disc can not be downloaded!

    > but how can I recover my Vista and Windows delete
If you have an original Toshiba recovery disc then put it in the CD/DVD drive and the start of this drive.
The recovery disk would start and you should follow the instructions on the screen.

Installation of recovery disk would format the whole HDD (!) which means you n t need to delete anything before starting the installation of the recovery disc! Recover disc remove everything!

  • Vista and all applications of Toshiba on the recovery disk?

    Hello everyone

I have problem with recovery disk on my laptop.
When I had formatted my HDD I lost my recovery and I can't return it.
That is why I need order of Toshiba backup recovery, but I have a question about it.

Could you please give me some information?
Are my lost Windows Vista and applications Toshiba on backup recovery?

I thank very you much for the replies.

    Hello

The Toshiba Recovery disk contains your laptop factory settings. This means that the operating system (in your case, Windows Vista) and all the drivers Toshiba and tools. It s like you started the laptop first time.
In addition, the disc contains a picture of the factory settings and compared to a Microsoft disk you save a lot of time because already installed updates to Windows and all the drivers and tools you need to work properly for laptop.

I hope I could help a bit to understand.
If you have any other questions, please let us know! :)

    Good bye

  • Why the hard disk is divided into partitions of two data (C:Vista and E: Data)?

I just started a new A200-1V0 and found that disk space is divided into two partitions of sizes equal 'C:Vista' and ' E: Data "(and a small one EISA).

WHY? What is the logic and purpose? It's not even as if the C:Vista partition is smaller and intended only to the tricks of the 'system' as the root 'Users' (user Documents) is on it also.

This is the default for Vista (my first use of it), if not, who said that Toshiba could do this without asking me?

How can I move the root 'Users' in Vista (in the data partition) - if I have two partitions that I might as well use it?

I can resize partitions in Vista without a utility 3 rd-party (or a complete backup/restore)?

    Thank you

    Hello just YOU

Please don't be offended because there is no reason for this. You bought the new product with the factory settings. Toshiba and other hardware manufacturer do not know every customer personally and, unfortunately, it was not possible to ask YOU how to set up YOUR laptop.

Because of this, there is a recovery of product support that allows to configure the HARD disk according to your wishes and needs.

Please use this DVD and install OS how you want it to be. What recovery procedure starts, you will see CONFIGURATION option on the right side. Click on it and choose the right option.

Reinstall the OS and enjoy your life. Really, I don't have the time to write on the floors of two partitions, because this is basic stuff and you probably don't want to waste your time to read this.

    Bye and good luck!

  • Qosmio G30 - need two Windows operating systems: Vista and XP

    Hello

can someone help me on the following application procedures:
I need two operating systems on my Qosmio: Vista and XP
I have two drives RAID inside my Qosmio and I installed Vista on the first.

I tried to install XP on the second hard drive and I did (I have inserted XP installation disk and sellected second disc for installation), but after installation I got just the XP startup option.

I can see all the files of Vista on the first disc, but allows boot XP only. Directory Windows XP was intalled on second drive, but boot.ini and some system files have been at the root of the first disc.

I liked Vista and I repeated the procedure (with my recovery CD of Vista) and now I have Vista on the first disc and all files of XP on the second disc. I do not study how to get full XP on the second disk bootable system.

    What I need:
Vista on the first hard drive.
    XP on the second disk

I would have completely independent Windows System. This means that I have to start selection of BIOS, not Vista or XP.

    Hello

It's very strange. If you have installed the first Vista and XP as a second OS then the Vista boot manager must exist usually.

Please note that Vista uses 2 partitions. A partition is not visible. I hope that you have installed XP on this partition.

In any case, I recommend you to create a new partition on the first HARD drive and you could install XP as second operating system.

After this installation, you can use applications freeware like EasyBCD or VistaBootPRO to change the Vista Boot Manager.

  • Compatibility problem with Vista and iTunes

I downloaded iTunes 9 on my Tobisha laptop Satellite last night and put about 2.5 GB of music on it. I didn't upload the music from the internet. I used MP3s, I had for a few years.

When I went to boot up the laptop this morning the loading process took some time, but it never loaded to the login screen. I just see the bottom of MicroSoft. Is there a compatibility problem with Vista and iTunes? Maybe I put too much music on my laptop?

Boot in safe mode and delete iTunes and all the music I downloaded would solve the problem? Or it is less simple than that?

Don't know where to direct this question if any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you.

    Hello

iTunes is compatible with Vista and there should not be any problem.
Yesterday, I installed iTunes 9 on my U400 and everything happened correctly.
If your laptop can not boot Vista correctly, then you should try the repair feature.

Turn on the computer and press F8. Now you will see the advanced boot menu.
    Now, you have many choices.

As a first step, you should try the option called: last good known Configuration (Advanced)

If this will not help and the Vista will not start then try the option called repair your computer. This option displays a list of system recovery tools, you can use to repair startup problems, run diagnostics, or restore your system.

If that does not help, then you will need to retrieve the unit using the Toshiba recovery disc or HARD drive recovery.

  • Can I move files between Vista and XP

    Hello

My pc has XP and my new laptop Toshiba Vista.
In the future I'll have to use work files from my pc to the Toshiba...
This will cause problems if I move between the 2 OS?

    Thank you

Why not. If you have installed the right software that is able to manage and to open these files on Vista and XP OS, then it should be possible to use the files of the work on the two operating systems.

I really serious reasons of t see why it shouldn't have been possible to manage these files using Vista and XP.

    Concerning

  • Renistalled Vista and now the keys FN and so does not work.

I recently reinstalled Vista and now the FN keys and thus won t work and the drivers offered on the Toshiba site aren t install properly, and I have also 2 unknown devices in my device manager could it so those?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Hello

I agree with the user above.
The driver for the touchpad control touchpad and value added package (VAP) must be installed!
Some series of portable need for the utility of Flash Card Toshiba in order to get the FN keys works! But not all
Then take a look at the European Toshiba driver and driver page, if you could find these drivers
