Vista backup does not - restore error 0x8100001A

My hard drive has been replaced, and I've tried using restore files via Vista backup and restore (Home Premium).  I followed the Advanced Restore from another PC, can see the backups, there are several dates of backup choice, but I get 0x8100001A error when restoring.

The last backup was interrupted when the drive crashed.  I'm trying to restore the one before this one.  The backup drive letter has not changed.
I have a new HARD drive, installed vista, caught all the Windows updates, installed all the programs and I'm trying to recover the backed up files.  None of the online help suggestions have worked.  Looks like the next suggestion is to recreate a corrupt Mediaid.bin file, which could have damaged when the last backup was interrupted.  How do I do that?  It is possible to rebuild is based on a previous backup?

Hi louithibo,

I understand that you refer to the following article:

Error message when you use the option restore files to restore a backup file on a Windows Vista-based computer: "the restoration has not completed successfully. "Error code: 0x8100001A.

  • Firefox 34 does not restore the previous when tabs restart

    Hello

After that I updated to 34.0 FF, whenever I restart my FF, it does not restore the Forelegs. Instead, he opened all my home pages.

I went to look in the history and all the following features are grayed out: tabs to other devices; Restore previous Session; Recently closed tabs and windows recently closed.

I went to my profile folder and found the "sessionstore-backups" folder and in it, there are two files: recovery.bak and recovery.js, both showed the latest date and time. And there is no file "sessionstore" anywhere in the profile folder.

My question is: why are all the options under history is grayed out? I used the "Undo Close Tab" modules, but it does not work. When I click on the shortcut menu, nothing happens.

I searched on this forum about this issue, but none of the solutions worked for me.

Suggestions or comments are much appreciated. Thank you.

    OK, here's my latest:

I created a new profile, copy ALL the folders and files from my old profile into it. So I delete all the files except the last one pref.js. Start FF with the new profile, guess what, everything is back to what is supposed to be.

1 restore previous Session and recently closed tabs both work now on the history tab.
    2. I can connect to all my accounts from Chase, without using IE Tab.
3 file and release working again.

So, it seems that all the old files pref.js were the culprits here.

Thanks to FredMcD and cor - el for all of your kind cooperation.

Make sure you write down the description and model double click top - tab drivers - write version. Now

Try to restore the system in Safe Mode.

Shut down your pc (if you can't for some reason any then press and hold in the power switch until the pc shurs)

Now start pc you and start immediately to press the key F8.

you will be presented with a new screen where you can choose Safe mode (use the arrow keys on your keyboard to navigate through the screen)

    Now restore your system.

    * Very often Norton users have problems, perform a system restore, an error of "restoration incomplete... your computer can not be restored"would be seen after trying a restore point. " New versions of Norton have a setting where you can uncheck/disable 'symprotect anti-forgery protection. " ... older versions have "enable protection for my Symantec product." ... Uncheckiing should be temporarily. Unchecking these settings would mean you wouldn't need to go into safe mode to try the restore.

Try a restore of the system once, to choose a Restore Point prior to your problem...

If restore work not and you do not have a Vista DVD from Microsoft, do a repair disc to do a Startup Repair:

Download the ISO on the link provided and make a record of repair time it starts.

Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.

At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu.

When you have changed that, insert the Bootable disk you did in the drive and reboot.

After installing above ISO burning software, right click on the Knoppix ISO file > copy the Image to a CD.

Knoppix is not installed on your PC; use only the resources of your PC, RAM, graphics etc.

Change the boot order in YOUR computer/laptop to the CD/DVD Drive 1st in the boot order.

Plug a Flash Drive/Memory Stick, BOOT with the Live CD, and you should be able to read the hard drive.

When the desktop loads, you will see at least two drive hard icons on the desktop (one for your hard drive) and one for the USB key.

Click on the icons of hard drive to open and to understand which drive is which.

Click the icon for the USB drive and click on "Actions > Change the read/write mode" so you can write to disk (it is read-only by default for security reasons).

on windows xp that my system restore to a previous restore point, I tried many restore points & created new ones but the system displays "could not be restored", any help out there.

Let see... What do we know about your system environment:

    It's windows xp.

If we knew more, you would probably now.

What is the problem that you are experiencing this thing you System Restore will be remedied?  System Restore is not a time machine.

The system restore already worked successfully in the past?

Thank you MS Answers, allowing the resolution of simple problems like frustrating and a lot of time as possible by asking only not for any information system when a new question is asked.

Provide information on your system, the better you can:

What is your system brand and model?

What is your Version of XP and the Service Pack?

Describe your current antivirus and software anti malware situation: McAfee, Symantec, Norton, Spybot, AVG, Avira!, MSE, Panda, Trend Micro, CA, Defender, ZoneAlarm, PC Tools, Comodo, etc..

The question was preceded by a loss of power, aborted reboot or abnormal termination?  (this includes the plug pulling, buttons power, remove the battery, etc.)

The afflicted system has a working CD/DVD (internal or external) drive?

You have a true bootable XP installation CD (it is not the same as any recovery CD provided with your system)?

If the system works, what do you think might have changed since the last time it did not work properly?

Some tools Anti Virus 'protect' your system so that they will not allow a restore of the system work properly.
For example, if you use Norton/Symantec products, you will see a message like this:
Restoration incomplete. Your computer cannot be restored...
It is also a popular Symantec problem (well, I'll be polite and call an "undocumented feature"...), they wrote an article about it:
According to what you use for malware protection, you may need to disable the product temporarily, do the system restore and then turn the products light up again when the system restore is complete.
Sometimes you need start your system in Mode safe and so that your protection programs are not running, and then do the system restore.  Tips from Microsoft in some of their articles that if the system restore does not restore your computer, start in Safe Mode, and then run the system restore.  It works for some configurations.
System Restore is sometimes so afflicted or Restore Points are suspicious, the best solution is to reinstall your system restore.  This will remove the old Restore Points, but sometimes it's the only way to fix a broken system restore.  You don't have to reinstall XP, only the part of system restore.
That can leave you with your problem of unspecified origin that you hope the system restore will fix (using a system restore is usually not equivalent to fixing the problem though).
Give these ideas some consideration if they apply to you.
Sometimes malicious will afflict your system restore to prevent you to find and remove malware.  It would much rather you trick into thinking that you need to repair or reinstall your XP when it is not necessary.
No matter what you use for protection against malware, I do so and then only begin to solve any problems:
Download, install, update and do a full scan with these free malware detection programs can solve any problems:
    Malwarebytes (MMFA): http://malwarebytes.org/
    SUPERAntiSpyware: (SAS): http://www.superantispyware.com/
It can be uninstalled later if you wish.
The scans by operating clean, reboot, test and we can fix any other issues.
