Vista & check for box Windows Update doesn't seem to work

Hello, (Specs: Microcomputer HP/Compaq with Vista Home Premium, SP2)

The Windows Update control box seems to go nowhere.  Keeps audit and some never... no results.  I run FIX - IT, and he did of bugs.  Then restart and try again CheckUpdates.  Same thing.  And also, the "most recent search for updates" and "updates have been installed" two say '' never. ''  If I seem to have lost everything that was installed or checked in the recent past.

FIX - IT has deleted the ones?

I ran also malaware program and the program McAfee (that comes with my subscription to AOL) and clean disk.  Then tried the FIX - IT and re-run check updates.  I have received many downloaded and installed a few of them because so many updates were available at that time.  I'm going to install one or more other, but who has not installed.  Just kept running in mode installation, running and running, nothing happens.  I tried to re-boot, FIX - it again...   So now I'm back on the State 'never '.  Updates Windows to check once more runs from nowhere for the last 4 hours.

(I even tried before execution with Firewall disabled, just to see what would happen.  I turned back.)

I noticed that the computer activity light is very minimal (1 flashes every 10 seconds approximately) that check the update is running.  That the light should be blinking a lot?

I also do not know what to do at this point.  The update service is not running.

Thank you.

updated-what precedes has worked once for a small set of downloads. (I had changed and reduced the amount of updates installed to shorten the waiting time for results)  When I went to install several updates, it did not.  I ran the Fix - It again and lost all facilities.  After a few attempts, Fix - It is not helping.

Then I went through this series (a few ideas from another thread of discussion, rest are mine).

I cleaned the computer - clean disk, then my regular analysis of McAfee, then tried Malawarebytes program (nothing was found by any program scans, fyi) and then defragment the drive.

After that, several Windows updates appeared.  I installed Windows, not Microsoft software updates only those related to programming (I think that's what I did.)

And then install it worked and have stayed.  I'll check for another batch of updates installed as I imagine that there must be more, because I lost all the others who were there before the Fix - It.

I don't really know what the sequence preceding really helped and enabled the victory. Update service works.  But it's good for now.

Best of all.

  • McAfee updates - doesn't seem to work

Hello. I seem to have a problem with my McAfee Security Center software. I have Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 1. This is how I think the problem occurred.

Last week, I installed a bunch of updates to Vista (from Windows Update) and I also installed Service Pack 1. None of the updates were released in 2007. All the updates I've installed were released in 2008.

Almost every day, McAfee asked me to install the software updates (it will appear in the lower right corner and go ' ding ding ') but for the past few days, the not it only once. He has no problem connecting to the internet. When I click on "Update", I can tell via the Task Manager it will connect to the web. It will just say "No updates available". Given that it would be that this daily before these Windows updates have been installed, I find it strange that there are no more updates available.

If anyone else has experienced this? Y at - it a crazy with McAfee update? It would be fair that the McAfee updates take a break? : smileytongue: If you need a list updates, I installed that could be the culprit, I'll post back with a list of them (and it would be not too long) any help is greatly appreciated! Thank you!

  • Looking for a Windows Update updates forever

Hello! I have problems with Windows Update on my old laptop with Windows Vista Home Basic installed.

Basically what is happening is not able to complete the search for updates. I tried Microsoft FixIt (it reveals an error 0 x 80070003 in the end and it can not correct no matter how many times I run) and manually reset Windows Update components, no luck, yet research forever. Strange thing I noticed is that the Windows Update standalone packages seem to work for only on a few minutes after the connection, after that even that they stop working (hungs just Installer on "search for updates", duh). Is it possible to fix it? I really want to reinstall once again, because I already did and it's this thing (for the first time after several relocations). I'll appreciate any help.

    Hi BuIlDaLiBlE:

Since August 2015 there has been a large number of Vista users announcement on Windows Update (WU) hooked to the initial phase of "checking for updates...".  The problem seems to be more severe in Patch Tuesday updates when a large number of updates is displayed on the MS. servers  To date, the only solution I know is to start a manual WU and then leave your computer idle (often several hours) until WU reports finally updates are available for download.

I started a thread in this forum entitled August 2015 Windows Update Vista requires an hour to run to the end that could provide useful information and thread from March 2016 Jamie1968 only updates Windows Vista stuck when searching could also be useful.

It is also a very long but informative thread started by ScousaJay in the VistaForums titled update of windows just seems to hang when searching where several Vista users, including myself, send messages.  This thread will give you at least an idea of the range of patches unsuccessful people have tried, and if no reliable solution is finally found I imagine it will be posted.

Affected most Vista users report a long block for "check for updates..." but no other obvious problems such as error messages or downloads to fail.  I don't know if your MS FixIt error points to a possible problem with one of your components WU, but you might want to run Microsoft System tool update just to see if it finds problems.  MS has download links for this tool for 64-bit and 32-bit operating systems (Vista and higher) in the support article the what is the analysis of system update tool? and article WindowsClub CheckSUR: tool updates the system to fix Windows Update has a good explanation of the works of this tool.

  • Request concerning the sequence of updates for the Windows Update client in 2015

I posted a query similar to this on a Microsoft Technet forum, but I have not yet received a response to the specific question that I asked.  I'm trying so this forum.

I am running Windows 7 Home Premium SP1, but I did not intend to accept the free update of Windows 10.  I don't use automatic updates.  I use Windows Update manually and select the updates to install, even for these updates identified as Important.

Since April 2015, there was a sequence of updates for the client Windows Update on Windows 7 (Windows 8).  I have the Windows 7 of those below list:

    KB2990214 (April 2015)

    KB3050265 (June 2015)

    KB3065987 (July 2015)

    KB3075851 (August 2015)

    KB3083324 (September 2015)

    KB3083710 (October 2015)

    KB3102810 (November 2015)

    KB3112343 (December 2015)

(This list is probably less intimidating than it looks because the replaced October update Update September, which replaced the August update, which replaced the July update, which replaced the June updated.  "There are therefore basically just 4 updates.)

The big question is, given that Windows 7 is available for several years, why, all of a sudden, there was this sequence of updates for the Windows Update client?  Because these updates began to occur at the time when the offer of a free upgrade to Windows 10 was announced, I could be forgiven for thinking that all of these updates are really directed towards the relaxation of the upgrade to Windows 10 via Windows Update, and that there is little or no advantage to systems that are not upgrading.  I am mistaken in this belief?  If not, precisely those who will benefit from my system, even if it is not upgraded to Windows 10?

The updates that I currently installed, depending on the installed updates, are KB2990214 (April 2015), KB3075851 (August 2015), KB3083324 (September 2015) and KB3083710 (October 2015).

In my view, there was a lack of transparency in the descriptions of these updates in the KB articles.  And, in one or two cases, information on the importance of an update in the article and in Windows Update has been inconsistent.  It would have been much clearer if each KB article stated for NOT upgrading to Windows 10 systems, if the update to the Windows Update client is important, as an option or completely irrelevant.

  • an error occurred when checking for a software update

My iphone6s when I check for the update, dosent work and say:

an error occurred when checking for a software update.
    Please help me

    Greetings harera22dec,

Thank you for using communities Support from Apple!

I understand that in trying to upgrade to the latest version of iOS on your iPhone, you get an alert that says: "year error occurred while searching for an update of the software.»

To begin troubleshooting this situation, I would first work through the steps in the section on your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch in the following article, and then try the update again.

On your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch

If you cannot connect to the iTunes Store on your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch:

    1. Make sure that your date, time, and time zone are correct. Tap Settings > general > Date & time. Time zone can list another city in your time zone.
    2. Make sure your iOS software is up-to-date. Tap Settings > General > software update to check for updates. You can also connect your iOS device to iTunes and click on search the update on the summary page of your device.
    3. Check and verify that you are in range of a Wi - Fi router or base station. If you use the cell service, make sure the cell data are lit settings > cellular. If you are connected to cellular data, large items can not download. You may need to connect to the Wi - Fi to download applications, videos and podcasts.
    4. Make sure you have an active Internet connection. Check your device Manual for Internet connectivity.
    5. Check if other devices, such as laptops, are able to connect to the network of Wi - Fi and Internet access.
    6. Reset the wireless router by turning and then again.

If there is still a problem, learn what to do if your device connects to a Wi-Fi network.

If you cannot connect to the iTunes Store - Apple Support

If the problem persists, try updating your iPhone from another network or from iTunes on a computer than this article implies.

If you receive a message that says: "year error occurred downloading iOS ', try again later. If this happens again, try to update your device using a different network or use iTunes to update your device.

    Windows Update does not work

This is a very common problem lately.

As a general rule, the following rather simple and fast process should be.

Start, all programs, accessories, right-click on command prompt, select run as administrator, OK.  Type the following in the black box:

    2. net stop cryptSvc
    3. net stop bits

    7. net start wuauserv

    11. pause
    12. Output

Services of type in the text box above the start planet.  Find each of the following items and make sure they are set to automatic: Intelligent Transfer in the background, cryptographic, Windows Installer, Windows Update services.  Double-click on each item and choose automatic.

Now restart Windows Update.  Do NOT restart Windows.   Be very, very sick, it will probably take a while.
