Vista sp1 corrupts ntoskrnl.exe

Installed Windows Vista Home Premium 32 BIT of Dell supplied DVD of resettlement on new Western Digital HDD (1 TB green SATA600 HD 64 MB) in replacement of primary transmission single partition in Dell XPS 410 with 4 GB of RAM.  Tried to update with Windows Vista Service Pac 1, downloaded from the site Microsoft Web (http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/downloads/service-packs).  Both times I tried to perform the update the following appeared on the screen: "cannot start Windows.  A recent hardware or software change might be the cause.  To solve problem 1. Insert your Windows installation disc, and then restart your computer. 2. choose your language settings, and then click Next.  3. click on repair computer.  File: ntoskrnl.exe; status 0xc0000098; Info: Windows failed to load because a required file is damaged. "Completing steps 1 to 3 following the startup repair products:"Startup Repair cannot repair this computer automatically"and the details of the repair diagnosis says"C:\ntoskrnl.exe is corrupt ".  I had to do a system restore to before I tried the update for the restart of the computer.  Any idea what the problem might be with the installation of SP1?

.. .are say you my best plan (perhaps only) action is to reformat the hard drive and upgrade to Windows 7?

Assuming that the computer passes Win7 Upgrade Advisor with flying colors, you can format the HARD drive and then do a clean install of Win7 (which would need to buy a commercial full version of Win7) but you can not upgrade to Win7 computer (using a version upgrade from Win7) unless Vista SP1 is installed.

Otherwise, the best solution would be to be formatting the HARD drive and then do a clean install of Vista exactly by the (my) message of reply in this thread: http://answers.microsoft.com/thread/c44429fb-3f7c-4646-8529-5a97bb3cd0eb

Note: The computer must NOT be connected to the internet or local networks (i.e. other computers) in its current state. All your personal data (e.g., banking online & passwords credit card) must be considered at risk, if not already compromised.

Wish I had better news for you. Good luck!

  • Configuring updates... Missing or corrupt NTOSKRNL.exe

    Hello

    I have a sony VGN NR260E, (Windows Vista Home Premium) recently on power, windows entered the dreaded

    She was followed by a reboot that caused the error

    Windows boot manager cannot start Windows...
    File ntoskrnl.exe
    Status: 0xc0000098
    Info: windows could not load because a required file is missing or damaged

    So, fortunately I have a recovery disk and I did a recovery to a previous restore point - and windows came fine. Since then, I have disabled the Windows updates

    The problem is in the power down and turn on the system back in the
    Configuration of updates (followed by a ntoskrnl.exe error restart failure) mode

    The result is that
    1. I cannot turn off without going through this lengthy procedure
    2. I can't get updates

    So, how to stop windows from "reflection", there is somehting to configure (new can't power upward).

    I also tried the fix Windows6. 0-KB937287-v2 - x 86, but when I run it it says it isn't neceassry (or something similar) on my system

    Computer has Vista Home Premium installed.  Moments ago, ntoskrnl.exe has begun abandon.  Now, he gives up all the time, which means from 1 to 10 minutes after the computer starts.  May be a corrupted file.  Is it possible to copy the program from another computer and replace the one that keeps giving?  Have you tried different avenues and the program seems to always work it cannot be superimposed.  A useful answer or point in the right direction would be most appreciated.

    Hello

    try a restore of the system before this happened

    http://www.windowsvistauserguide.com/system_restore.htm

    If necessary do in safe mode

    Windows Vista

    Using the F8 method:

    1. Restart your computer.
    2. When the computer starts, you will see your computer hardware are listed. When you see this information begins to tap theF8 key repeatedly until you are presented with theBoot Options Advanced Windows Vista.
    3. Select the Safe Mode option with the arrow keys.
    4. Then press enter on your keyboard to start mode without failure of Vista.
    5. To start Windows, you'll be a typical logon screen. Connect to your computer and Vista goes into safe mode.
    6. Do whatever tasks you need and when you are done, reboot to return to normal mode.
  • Vista fails to boot after SP1 update. Lack file ntoskrnl.exe

    I have Windows Vista Home Premium and has just installed SP1 upgrade.  The PC now not restart, even in safe mode.  As soon as he tries to load Vista, an error message occurs: ntoskrnl.exe missing or damaged.  I tried to boot from the resettlement drive provided by Dell, but the same error occurs.

    I ran dell seed assessment tool and the material is very good.

    What should I do to fix this file?

    Thanks in advance.

    Restore point:

    Try typing F8 at startup and in the list of Boot selections, select Mode safe using ARROW top to go there > and then press ENTER.

    Try a restore of the system once, to choose a Restore Point prior to your problem...

    Click Start > programs > Accessories > system tools > system restore > choose another time > next > etc.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    If restore work not and you do not have a Vista DVD from Microsoft, do a repair disc to do a Startup Repair:
    Download the ISO on the link provided and make a record of repair time it starts.
    Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.
    At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu.
    When you have changed that, insert the Bootable disk you did in the drive and reboot.
  • Blue screen - ntoskrnl.exe was able to start: kernel missing/corrupted dxgkrnl.sys
    original title: BSOD and freezes, several errors reported, puzzled.
    Hello
    I've been struggling with trying to understand an intermittent problem for the last 3 weeks.  The problem has been around for one more month, but it seems to happen more and more often can't find the source.  I wish I could attach the dump files memory here, but don't see any option for this.  So here it goes...
    Have had this computer for 2-3 years and have not changed the material at all and only the drivers updated.
    CPU: Intel Core i7 CPU * address email is removed from the privacy *.
    Motherboard: ACPI x 64
    PowerSource: Power TX 750W.
    2 Hardrives: WDC - WD6401AALS-00L3B2 ATA
    6 GB OF RAM
    Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260
    I have wiped the two HD, reinstalled Vista.  I've updated the Vista completely.  I've updated the following drivers to their latest: graphics card, motherboard, map its (motherboard), LAN (motherboard).
    The computer crashes more often that the BSOD appears.  When it freezes, the sound plays all that was the last one on again and again and nothing does.  No data memory is dumped to the crash.  I checked with another computer that is on the network to see if she could still access shared files and that he could not.  It has frozen or gave the BSOD when just doing electronic-mail/surf net or playing dungeons and Online (DDO dragons).
    Challenges in a relationship with install/updates: SP2 would not install through normal updating, so a download and install manually.  DDO requires NET framework 1.1 to run.  Had to integrate the installation so that it can install.  Do not remember having to do in the past.  The point of freezing/BSOD is always the same before and after I did the complete wipe.
    Made the following stress tests:
    Don't use memtest 86 + (2.11 and version 4.10) x no errors, 8 longer past track.
    Used Furmark 1.8.2 V max stress test, ran all night without crashing.
    Used Video Card Stability Test (Group in stone), no problem.
    Used Seagate Diagnostics on HD, long and short no trials, no failure.
    Reported on BSOD errors:
    Ntoskrnl.exe could not start: missing/corrupted core
    dxgkrnl.sys
    driver_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL nvlddmkm.sys
    More information on these if necessary.
    I get about 5 freezes with no info to each BSOD with info.  Very hard to debug with any info.
    I've had freezes/BSOD occur minutes after the computer starts and the hours.  Have the box to open with an external fan blowing into the case.  Don't think overheating is the problem.  No overclocking ever carried out on the system.
    I'm relearning all debugging stuff, did not have to do this in a long time any help would be very appreciated.
    Thanks in advance for your help.
    Hello
    If you do not remove ANY power and reconnect the cables (at both ends, memory and cards)
    When possible) - in fact, remove and replace - do not just tight.
    As you re-installed Vista twice the question must be something that works with a low level
    as the BIOS, chipset of low level drivers or hardware.
    You can validate files minidumps on the SkyDrive or other file sharing sites so that they can be
    downloaded, and we will have a look. But to be honest they will reveal probably material
    or worth nothing useful, so.
    Use SkyDrive download collected files and after shot/screenshot.
    I'm now locked in battle with the ntoskrnl.exe file corrupted on my computer. It started a week ago when I stopped, I noticed updates have been planned and so I clicked on to install updates and shut down option. Next morning all * broke loose and I'm dealing with a damaged or missing ntoskrnl.exe file. Now when I start the machine starts OK and then when the Windows boot screen showing moving green lines appear, it holds for a few seconds and then automatically start startup repair... After working on what he comes back with mode "cannot repair computer automatically, and when I ask to send the information contained in". I can't find any additional information. System restore fails due to a corrupted file. I have tried and actually started the system with the recovery in the drive but not from this date disc... maybe I'm super tired. I read that you can expand the file in the location of the recovery disc, but I get confused the guidelines regarding disk numbers. Is it possible to buy a HARD drive up, install it in the machine and then install vista on it and set the new drive as the primary drive and leave the old drive in pure storage. Or the problem would still exist? I have photos stored on the drive and more priceless family of financial records and other important documents on it as well.
