I recently installed the new windows vista sp2. Now, I did that I was not able to connect to a wireless network and the internet sometimes decides to work when it is connected through the LAN.

I went back to sp1, and now it is fine.

does anyone else have this problem? If yes how can I fix?

Hello

Thank you for using the Microsoft Windows Vista Forums.

So that the network is working properly, let's check to see if your network services are working properly.

1. open the Start Menu

2 type services in the start search box and press enter

3. click on continue in the UAC prompt

4. search for network connections, network list Service, knowledge of network and Service of Network Store Interface locations

5. check that the status is set to started and Startup Type is set to automatic

6. If this is not the case then right-click the service and select start to start the service

7. make a right-click the service and select Properties, change the startup type to automatic

8. repeat if necessary for the services listed in step 4

If you still have the problem of connection to the network or to the internet follow this steps that fixes most of the problems of connectivity.

To reset the stack TCP/IP go to this article and either click on "Fix it for me" or follow the instructions to fix it yourself:

How to reset the Protocol Internet (TCP/IP)

http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/299357

Disable the IP helpdesk:

1 hold the Windows key and type R, type "services.msc" (without the quotes) and press enter

2. scroll down to the IP assistance service, right-click on it and select Properties

3. in the drop-down list box that says "Automatic" or "Manual", set it to disabled and then click 'apply '.

4. then click on "Stop" to stop the service from running in the current session

5. click on OK to exit the dialog box

Disable IPv6:

Try to uninstall IPv6 on all interfaces, the removal of virtual cards of IPv6 and reset the TCP/IP stack. To remove the IPv6, go to the properties for each network adapter, and deselect the check box next to the Protocol "Internet Protocol version 6 (TCP/IPv6), which will turn off, or select it and click on uninstall, which withdraw power off the computer.» Then go into Device Manager and remove any 4to6 adapters, adapters miniport WUN or tunnel adapters.

NOTE: You should do this for each network connection.

Disable the DHCP Broadcast Flag:

Link: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/928233

Important: This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems can occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you proceed with caution. For added protection, back up the registry before you edit it. Then you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, click on the number below to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

322756 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/322756/ ) how to back up and restore the registry in Windows

Windows Vista cannot obtain an IP address from certain routers or some non-Microsoft DHCP servers

To resolve this issue, disable the DHCP BROADCAST flag in Windows Vista. To do this, follow these steps:

Click Start, type regedit in the search box, and then click regedit in the list programs.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password, or click on continue.

Locate and then click the following registry subkey:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\Interfaces\ {GUID}

This registry path, click the (GUID) subkey that corresponds to the card network that is connected to the network.

On the Edit menu, point to new, and then click DWORD (32-bit) value.

In the new area #1, type DhcpConnEnableBcastFlagToggle and press ENTER.

Right-click DhcpConnEnableBcastFlagToggle, then click on modify.

In the value data box, type 1 and then click OK.

Close the registry editor.

By setting this registry key to 1, Windows Vista's trying to get an IP address using the BROADCAST flag in DHCP Discover packets. If that fails, he will try to obtain an IP address without using the BROADCAST flag in DHCP Discover packets.

The only program that I'm aware of that currently relies on IPv6 is the new Windows meeting space. The first 2 changes will cause this program is not to work - but all of your normal (IPv4) connections will leave unaffected. If it causes problems that you can't overcome, simply go back to the original settings.

To clear the DNS cache:

Click Start, type cmd in the search box, and then click cmd in the list programs.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password, or click on continue.

Once at the command prompt, type ipconfig/flushdns

You can click on the link to try a few other network basic troubleshooting steps

    Hi rhawley64,

Thanks for posting on the Microsoft answers Forums.

Have you tried to connect your XBOX to your computer via a wired connection?

    1. first of all, have turned on your Xbox. Also have your PC on, because this next part is everything with the computer. It will probably work with a wired connection as well (but you could probably just hang to the top your modem or router then), but here it is. First go to start and go to your control panel. Switch to Classic view using the link in the upper left corner of the window. Find the network connections and open it.

    2. you should see a "connect to the Local network' (or disconnected, it's to connect to the Xbox) and your internet connection (mine is called"Wireless network connection"). Connect the Ethernet cable to your laptop and the back of the 360. Select the 'connection to the Local network. After it is connected, turn off your internet connection. Once it is disable right-click the internet connection, and then click Properties. Go to the Advanced tab and check "allow other users of the network to connect through this computer's internet connection". Allow that this ends, it may take a little bit. Once this is done, your internet connection should say shared next to the State of the connection.

    3. check your internet connection. Once it is fully connected, right-click to 'connect to the Local network' and click on repair. Allow only at the end. On your Xbox, find the system control panel and browse until you find 'connection to Xbox Live Test. Test the connection. If it works, congratulations, you don't need this next part. For some, at this stage, they get a DNS error. There are a number of ways to solve this problem.

    4. you must have a connection to a router. To browse the internet once again, you must disable the "connect to the Local network' and then to repair the Internet connection (follow the steps above to activate it again once you have finished). Go to http://192.168.0.1. You will be asked for a connection. On most routers, this is:

    User name: admin

    Password: (no password)

If this does not work, look for the login information for your model of router. Once connected, you have to find where your server DNS IPs would be listed. On the top bar, click State. Under WAN, you should find DNS IPs. Manually enter them into your Xbox (rather than have it find automatically) and test your connection again. At this stage it should work. Any other error can be search online.

After following the steps above you have established a wireless via your computer with your Xbox?

Please post back and let us know if this information was useful to solve your problem or not, so that we can help you if necessary.

  • Vista SP2 not recognizing not not SD card with the external drive

I have a Dell PC running Vista SP2 32 bit, and I just bought a card reader IOGear (GFR204SD, USB key with slots for SD/MicroSD cards). With the help of one of my Android devices micro SDHC cards (both brand Sandisk 16GB, I have a Droid and a tablet of Sanyo), this USB drive will not be detected, but when I click on the icon that appears in my computer, it just says "Please insert disk into drive h:" even if the card is inserted. Cards read very well if I mount them by the smartphone, but not on this device. The IOGear online chat person was no help for me until my connection has been lost, and before I asked them once again, I thought I would see if it was a Vista problem.

Every search I did shoot a lot Info for XP or SP1, but not to SP2. And in Device Manager there is no yellow triangle exclamation the device seems to settle but the card itself does not seem to be save.

  • WNDR3700 not internet connection due to the storm

My modem to broadband ISP (ARRIS TM822) was killed during a storm, it was replaced with the same model, and at the beginning, when I plugged my router, the wireless worked well. I'm not in the settings or something, just plugged in, and it worked perfectly. However the next morning, I was unable to connect to the internet.

I did a lot of troubleshooting:

    • Firstly, I fed all the way down, pulling cables, batteries on the modem, etc and started in sequence. This is done several times without success.

    • I updated the firmware on the router, done the commissioning, no luck

    • Connected on the router, using the routerlogin.net and run the configuration wizard. Got the message saying 'No Internet connection detected' ' Please check connection to the modem cable/DSL and of Internet WAN port.

    • Did a factory reset and used the resource CD. To the tab of preparation, got 'No adapter' ' is either disabled or no Ethernet card Ethernet card is installed on this computer...» "I've updated the driver for the LAN on my computer (it's something RealTek) and uninstalled and re-installed. Same result.

    • In addition, the port is very well. The LED indicator for the Ethernet port is shining green on the router and the computer, the port "lights" to show a good connection. It also works very well when it is connected directly to the modem.

    • The State of the computer shows LAN network data is sent and received when it is connected to the router, quite strangely, even if I can't connect to the internet.

Thus, it has been a long and frustrating day. I'd appreciate help on solving this problem.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Elaine,.

I couldn't make it work. I pretty well confirmed, however, it is the router. I tried another router and it works very well with the modem, and I had a friend check my router on its network. It did not work there either. I'll have to buy another.

Maybe it was damaged during the storm that killed the modem. Just very strange that he worked for a while before stopping and that he was not completely killed as the modem, just maybe the internet port. Both have been connected to a surge protector as well! Maybe I can get compensation from the manufacturer. Well...

Thank you for following it upwards.

I use Vista Ultimate SP1 of the initial installation.

My question is - why has it not been downloaded by automatic updates.
Does this mean that I have to download myself and hope _ as it installs OK. Seems that people have had a few problems with SP2 installed.
Maybe better to leave it where it is.

Vista and Windows 7 updated drivers love then here's how update the most important.

This is my generic how updates of appropriate driver:

This utility, it is easy see which versions are loaded:

-Free - DriverView utility displays the list of all device drivers currently loaded on your system.
For each driver in the list, additional useful information is displayed: load address of the driver,
Description, version, product name, company that created the driver and more.

For drivers, visit manufacturer of emergency system and of the manufacturer of the device that are the most common.
Control Panel - device - Graphics Manager - note the brand and complete model
your video card - double - tab of the driver - write version information. Now, click on update
Driver (this can do nothing as MS is far behind the certification of drivers) - then right-click.
Uninstall - REBOOT it will refresh the driver stack.

Repeat this for network - card (NIC), Wifi network, sound, mouse, and keyboard if 3rd party
with their own software and drivers and all other main drivers that you have.

Now in the system manufacturer (Dell, HP, Toshiba as examples) site (in a restaurant), peripheral
Site of the manufacturer (Realtek, Intel, Nvidia, ATI, for example) and get their latest versions. (Look for
BIOS, Chipset and software updates on the site of the manufacturer of the system here.)

Download - SAVE - go to where you put them - right click - RUN AD ADMIN - REBOOT after
    each installation.

Always check in the Device Manager - drivers tab to be sure the version you actually install
presents itself. This is because some restore drivers before the most recent is installed (sound card drivers
in particular that) so to install a driver - reboot - check that it is installed and repeat as
    necessary.

Repeat to the manufacturers - BTW in the DO NOT RUN THEIR SCANNER device - check

  • Photosmart 5520: Not internet connection post update download

5520 new. Connected to internet and downloaded straightup update. Now I get "server connection error... check the connection etc. This is done via the touchpad printer so the browser interface. Then... no ePrint or possible applications. Direct wireless for devices works fine.

Could it be a corrupted download of update? Anyway to force a reinstall?

    Any thoughts?

Let's define an external static IP and DNS address for the printer:

-Print a the front of the printer Network Setup Page. Note the IP address of the printer.
-Enter the IP address in a browser to reveal the internal settings of the printer.
-Choose the network tab, then wireless along the left side, then on the IPv4 tab.
-On this screen, you want to set a manual IP address. You must assign an IP address outside the range that the router sets automatically (called the DHCP range). If you do not know the range, change the last set of numbers (those after the last '.') 250
-Apply the subnet 255.255.255.0 (unless you know it's different, if so, use it)
-Enter the IP of your router (on the Page of the Network Config) for the gateway.
-Enter for the first DNS 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 for second DNS. It's Google DNS. You can choose a different external DNS if you wish.
    -Click 'apply '.

Now, stop the router and printer, start the router, wait, and then start printing.

After that, you will have to redo 'Add printer' using the new IP address.

  • T61p not internet connection WiFi

I have a T61p 6459 with an Intell Wireless WiFi Link 4965 AGN inside network adapter. It was working fine until the right signal strength for a few days when I would be connected to the network all of a sudden I would lose Internet access but then I always 100%. I have tried dissconnecting and that has not worked. Then I rebooted and it worked but only for a few hours, what is the same thing. Now, even with a reboot I have 100% signal strength, but no internet access.

    Help me please!

Your wifi network adapter does not connect to internet, it only connects you to a local access point, usually a router, whose job it is to connect to the internet. Try to turn off your router for a minute or two, in fact completely the unplug, wait a minute and a plug it back in and then see if you can connect.

If so, you can then focus on an update of the firmware of your router, if the problem persists.

  • Homestead sitebuilder does not see internet connection under Windows Vista

Recently, I switched from Verizon internet home (very bad product) Qwest's high-speed wireless. No problem. However, I discovered that I have a problem with vista.

First of all, microsoft updates would not download at all. I eliminated the firewall and done everything I could think and one day (had vista sp 1...) Yes, only had not updated in a while) it switched to automatic updates. Then it worked fine.

My second problem is with my website building program. It is not the internet connection. If I have power of Attorney, the internet connection test is fine. I have no problem with my internet. I can get online every time that and fast. However, it is curious that my homestead sitebuilder program does not recognize. So I uninstalled the sitebuilder and tried to reinstall a clean install. The installation wizard starts and installs the first part, I hit then, and suddenly, I get a message error "Sitebuilder has stopped working; try to find a solution", in which he can never find the solution. So, I go to the site of the farm and download the zip file. I am able to install sitebuilder by these means, but then it takes forever to load on vista and never find the internet connection.

Someone at - it solutions? It is a program that I use quite often and now I can only update online that allows me a limited capacity. BTW... I use firefox for my browser. Homestead accepts only the browser.

    Solutions?

    Hello

You may need to contact the support for the site builder from homestead to reinstall.

Also contact Qwest High Speed Internet connection to inquire the matter with an Internet connection.
