VMWare ESXi 4 on Dell R710 shows no other Intel Nic

Hello

I installed VMWare ESXi 4 on a new Dell R710 server with integrated Broadcom 4 Port NETWORK interface and a network card additional Intel 4 Port. In the Vsphere Client now I only see the NIC. Broadcom onboard

The additional INTEL Nic does not appear upward.  But I can see VMWare ESXi 4 acknowledged the Intel NIC in Advanced Settings Configuration VMDirectPath.

Any help with this would be great.

Thank you

Marcus

  • VMware ESXi 4 on Dell PowerEdge 2950 CDROM missing in virtual machines

    Hi all

I installed VMware 4.0 on my Dell PowerEdge 2950, and everything moved very well. I had the ISO image from the support site on the website of VMware and Dell. I installed both with the same problem, once installed, the CD-ROM will not be displayed in any virtual machine, I create.

I changed the boot parameters, the order of the boot, played with the BIOS settings, and no matter what I do, when I start the virtual machine and open a console window and try to connect on the CDROM, a message displays saying that the device is disconnected.

I have reinstalled Windows on the box, went to the site of support of Dell and applied each update BIOS patch and firmware of the box. Including the one for the TEAC CDROM, which is in my box.

Anyone had this problem before? If so, how should I do? I really need this works quickly. Without a CDROM, I can't install software such as SQL Server and others.

    Kind regards

    Michael Lange

I assume that you have added a CDROm for virtual machines?

You then specify "logged in/connected to the power on" in the settings of VM page? (I know it's usually obvious.. .but I did it very mistaken once this week.. .accidentally added the CDROM to the VM wrong.)

What OS your virtual machine is running and you have the installed VMTools?

If issuing a VMtools install on a windows host, it works, then the Cd drive works as ESX uses the virtual CD Rom to install the tools.

  • ESX 4.0 - i shows as inactive Intel NIC

Hi all, I have recently installed an Intel PRO/1000 GT NETWORK adapter in my ESX box - i 4 and have problems to work.  I'm not an expert on ESX, there may be something stupid.  ESX sees the NIC - I can add it in the network section in vSphere.  It IDs and it correctly displays the correct MAC for her.  However, State out of service.  It was plugged into a Cisco 3560 switch that shows until the connection (100/full) and even a 'show mac add' shows MAC the NETWORK card on the correct port.  I tried restarting and power cycling the host with no luck.  Any thoughts?

Not much can happen to this end. We can that make stabs in the dark.

Download and install the network drivers Intel to the ESXi download page low on the page.

New cable. Different switch ports. No parameters in bios if you added that if there was a built-in NETWORK interface try to disable it in the BIOS. From the yellow Console screen try activating to the management port. Let DHCP an address assignment. Restart Network and the yellow console test. Get an address?

  • VMWare ESXi on Dell PowerEdge 840

I am installing VMWare ESXI on a Dell PowerEdge 840 and it gives the following error message: "the operation of Installation Failed! The VI client is free to install and there is no component license.  If you go to http://ESXi_ip/ , you will see a link to download.   Your ESXi host, it will be 60 days eval mode and you can go to Configuration-licensed proposes to add the serial number that you should have received your registration for free download.

    Hello:

I ve installed VMWARE ESXi on a Dell T410 server. It has 1 quad core Intel Xeon Processor (e5504) but ESXi recognizes only the 2 hearts. I can only use two hearts in the virtual machine.

I have a free license. Maybe a problem with the license? Could someone help me solve the problem?

I saw a setting in the BIOS to disable two of the kernel on a quad core processor, you can verify that?

  • R710/R720 - Dell customized Image of VMware ESXi 5.5 Update 2 - megaraid_sas version specific?

That I improve a R710 and two v5.5 (Dell image) to v5.5 U2 ESXi ESXi R720 using the image of Dell here:

    www.dell.com/.../DriversDetails

The documentation "Upgrade Guide to ESXi 5.5 using Dell customized Image" here:

    www.Dell.com/.../manuals

indicates that a specific version of the megaraid_sas driver must be installed.

Is the version megaraid_sas that installs with the image of Dell U2 v5.5 not the right version?

I just ran the upgrade on a R710 and it's the megaraid_sas version installed:

    ~ # vmkload_mod s megaraid_sas | grep Version
    Version: Version 06.803.73.00, build: 1331820, Interface: 9.2 inspired: August 22, 2014

    Thank you.

    Hello

It lists the R720 and R710 systems supported and both link to the same page, so the customized version is the same for both servers. Is the version listed in the reference guide for A02

    megaraid_sas - 06.803.73.00

    Page 5 ftp://ftp.dell.com/Manuals/all-products/esuprt_software/esuprt_virt_solutions/vmware-esxi-5_Reference%20Guide6_en-us.pdf

This is the same version that he shows for your installation on the R710 so that seems correct.

  • Dell R710 and ESXi 4.1 NIC issue.

Please bare with me, I'm a newbe with vMware.

    My question is this:

Got a new Dell R710 with Broadcom BCM5709 quad. Install ESXi 4.1 CD. Then, I created a virtual machine and install Win Server 2008 R2 64 bit.

In vSphere Client under configuration-> network-> properties (per virtual switch)-> network-> adapter details maps I see the Broadcom adapter. But in Windows in the Device Manager the NIC comes as Intel PRO/1000MT.

This is the expected behavior? ESXi support a pilot intel virtual any? or must we show Broadcom NIC.

If this is not the expected behavior, please suggest a solution.

    Thank you

    Welcome to the community,

what you see is expected and in design. ESX mask the real hardware and presents a virtual hardware to virtual machines. In this way, you are able to move the virtual machine across different hosts and even VMware Workstation, player,... without a lot of changes.

  • Reference Dell R710, Dell and VMware VAAI MD3200

Hi guys, we have 3 x Dell R710 hosts running VMware ESXi hypervisor v5.1. Our SAN is via Dell MD3200 Direct attached storage. We have activated the option of High Performance. My question is about VMware VAAI. In particular, the recommendation of VMware: http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=1033665 it says: "For more information on support VAAI in a particular storage group or required firmware levels, contact the storage array provider." So I'm wondering: is VAAI supported (or not) with the MD3200... and otherwise: should I be deactivation of VAAI settings as recommended by VMware? What are the potential implications for the performance of deactivation of VAAI... or support DO NOT turn it off? Thank you, Steve

Indeed, you are using a fairly old firmware. The most recent is 07.84.53.60.

To be able to upgrade to this version, you will need a version quite familiar of the MDSM. I would say to download 4.1.2.29 or later, which is 5.0.0.70. All servers Windows and Linux (not VMware or XenServer) server that manage and/or are connected via iSCSI SAN should have their MDSM, updated software before upgrade you the firmware on the raid on the SAN controller.

Network configuration / routing / two network interface cards / NAT - leased / dedicated Dell R210 running VMware ESXi 5.1.0 build-799733

    Hello

I'm trying to understand how to configure a dedicated server of Dell R210 rented running VMware ESXi 5.1.0 build-799733

This dedicated server is rented www.online.net and sits somewhere in France. One of its network adapters have an IP public 62.210.177.20x. The other NIC is here, but I do not understand how it is configured. According to the www.online.net portal, the other NETWORK card has or should have an IP 10.90.116.20x. And I am obviously set up is to have some virtual machines running and be able to access the Internet. I have access to the console of the server Dell through iDRAC and since I could see, one of the network adapters in the IP is 62.210.177.20x defined, and the other has been shown out of service. I managed to make it appear the other interface but I cannot find anywhere how to assign the IP address 10.90.116.20x to this 2nd network adapter. But then again I don't even know if I should or if I need to assing a IP address to this 2nd network adapter. What is the cable connected even for this 2nd NIC? I do not know. Should it be - I'm not either. I don't know French and manuals/instructions on www.online.net are in French. I can try an online translator, but I don't think that what I'm looking for is explained. How do I get this set up? I have to do something about the ESXi on the server console? This interface 2nd should be in place, or it must be down as if it was originally? Yesterday after watching someone videos on YouTube, I added the second virtual switch and moved the virtual hosts of this switch 2 and he entrusted the 2nd NIC. But that 2nd NIC had a red X next to it probably indicating that it was disconnected the 2nd form virtual switch. Today and now I have managed to access the ESXi console server through iDRAC, I bring the 2nd NIC, and now both network adapters are assigned to the virtual switch 1st . But I think that a NIC should be attributed to a single switch and the other card NETWORK on the 2nd switch. I'm just a desktop guy with enough knowledge to be dangerous J if you / someone put in steps how and where to set them up it... PLEASE

    Thanks in advance

    Network configuration

    • VMware vSphere Hypervisor is an "operating system" for pure virtualization and support NAT or routing. Therefore, only a real bridge configuration can be used.
    • To use a subnet additional IP must be configured as a router VM.

If I understand the above, I need to show some VM and set up as a router? If the virtual machine that will act as a router must have two network interfaces, where it is connected to a switch and the other to the other switch network card. Am I do? The YouTube video that suggested, but I thought that maybe / somehow ESXi can route packets between the two network cards, but from what I read, ESXi can route packets. Do I need to order an additional / extra / 2nd IPv4 address so that it can be assigned to the interface of the router?

  • maximum number of cores on esxi dell r710 with Xeon E5520 HT

    I intend to buy a dell r710.

This system will have 2 system physics quad core and HT technology.

    Intel® Xeon® E5520 2.26 Ghz, 8 M Cache, 5.86 GT/s QPI, Turbo, HT

It will have 8 cores with two Hyperthreaded by heart.

The free esxi version is limited to 6 cores per socket.

A hyperthreading is considered as a physical core for this limit under license?

After this discussion, it seems that a HT is handled by the same esx 3 licenses and esx2, which is HT does not count against the limit of 6 basic license.

    http://communities.VMware.com/click.jspa?searchID=6367755 & ObjectType = 2 & objectid = 1238132

    Is this true?

    Hello

It is my understanding as well. HT is not considered part of the license that you can always turn it off. Not necessarily, you cannot disable a Core.

  • Install ESXi on the SD card in Dell R710

I get 2 servers Dell R710, MD3000i SAN and VMWare Infrastructure 3 Enterprise (with Virtual Center Foundation).  When you talk with the Dell Server specialist, he said that he would save us a lot of money on servers if I installed ESXi on a card SD of myself.  (you must get the level premium for the server support if you put ESXi embedded)

First of all, I know that the card must be 1 GB or less, but I was wondering if there is a specific brand or model that would work better?

In addition, can I put the card in, make the appropriate changes to the BIOS and install ESXi directly on the SD card on a CD?  Or, I have to install ESXi on the map with a workstation has a SD card reader and place it in the R710?

I searched a bit and can only collect pieces on it.  Any help would be appreciated!

The links should help you, but it will not be a supported installation.   I would also check to see if Dell provides a built-in ESXi recovery CD.  Have you checked to see if you can just order

  • Driver RAID for Vmware ESXi 5.1 on Dell R420.

My project is to install Vmware ESXi 5.1 on a Dell R420 with Raid1 configuration. The question I have after configuring raid1 in raid utility is created using the, I launch the installation of Vmware ESXi 5.1. What is ESXi 5.1 sees not the raid1 partition but rather see two disks as are they worn can't in raid1 configurations.

I need to have this in raid1 config, can any who share an idea about my problem please or point me in the right direction.

I did some research but nothing seems to help resolve this issue.

    Thank you

    Sheriff.

    Sorry for my previous response:

DELL-Daniel My - when I boot in the BIOS of the controller, I see the raid in a raid1 configuration.

Mgr dev you are right, I did research more when you all answered. I see the PERC S110 pilot was a software raid controller and thus the vmware esxi wouldn't work in a raid configuration 1 (software raid).
