  • Windows Server 2003 P2V domain controller

I tried to understand the best way to do it.  We have a backup domain controller that is programmed to be either P2V would or recreated as a virtual machine.  Whatever it is, it's going to happen in our cluster HA.  I wonder if we can make just a P2V using the converter bootable without problems or would it not be better to organize a new virtual machine, and then go through the process of promotion and demotion.  Has anyone ran into any ING questions P2V one domain controller?  I can't really find any advice on this with the exception of a Microsoft document.  I looked on the forum and the exchange of Experts, and the general consensus seems to be, just do not do.  It is best to start from scratch.  I said why?  What happens when you P2V one domain controller?  If this isn't a secondary domain controller, so what about the PDC?  Are there unwritten rules on that?  A white paper that can be nice to look at?  Any help that anyone can give would be great.  For us, the easy way is to P2V, but if this isn't a good idea, then I guess we have the opposite effect.

  • P2V domain controller (for a test, the new virtual will not be connected to the network or used in production)

I wanted to check that won't affect my physical domain controller by performing a P2V migration to this subject, we would like to P2V our current DC (in production) to put in our test environment, it's so we can simulate one pass from 2008 to 2012. I would just check that install VMWare converter and performing P2V migration on the active domain controller current WILL NOT affect our current physical machine.

    Can someone advise?

DC and P2V = Don t do, since there is absolutely no guarantee that the DC P2Ved work. I had horrible experience during a migration of a data center to a new provider, the provider told us that P2V would be perfectly viable and that they had done several times. So ultimately they tested migration P2V, everything worked. Then, the day of the passage to the they did it again and AD did not come to the top. In the end we had to make a member server new rollback, as well as on the website of the provider and a classic dcpromo Setup does the job.

  • Problem connecting to the ESX Server in the Windows domain controller workstation

    Nice day

I'm trying to set up a lab for the test server ESX 4 on VMware Workstation 7.1.1 running in Ubuntu 10.04 LTS.

    Basic configuration is such;

Windows 2008 R2 AD domain controller

    IP: 192.168.9.103

    SM: 255.255.255.0

    DG: 192.168.9.1

    ESX1 host

    IP: 192.168.9.109

    SM: 255.255.255.0

    DG: 192.168.9.1

Both are configured with Bridged networking in my computer. I can ping the system Windows 2008 in my Ubuntu system, but cannot ping the ESX 4 server.  I can ping the DG of the Windows 2008 system, but cannot ping the DG of ESX4 system. I ping the ESX4 server by IP address and name for itself. I added a DNS entry in Windows 2008 for the server, ESX4. I can't ping the Windows Server 2008 of ESX4 host.

There is an entry in/etc/hosts on the ESX host to IP address and the name of the ESX host. If I look at/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-vwif0 I see doing a show at the 192.168.9.255, IPADDR 192.168.9.109 in sysconfig there is an entry for the ESX host name thats right, pointing to the front door of 192.168.9.1 using GATEWAYDEV = vswif0, n - route shows 192.168.9.1 as the UG.

All tests seem to indicate a problem with the default gateway that is used to communicate between these 2 VM.

If someone could please provide suggestions as to where I could look, I would appreciate it.

    Kind regards

    powderskier

AFAIK, you must enable Supreme mode for the virtual ESX using Linux as a host.

  • VMWare converter on a domain controller that you want to resize partitions?

    Hello

I read that you are not supposed to use VMWare converter on domain controllers because the domain controller is very sensitive to changes in material ranging from physical to virtual material involved.

In fact, I have a few DCs 2003 (virtual) Server I want to upgrade to 2008 (also virtual) DCs, but they need more disk space.  I want to use VMWare converter to increase the disk size to allow the extra space taken up by Server 2008, but I wonder if this will not work because the VMWare converter does not like domain controllers.

Is it still the concern to use VMWare Converter to "convert" essentially a virtual machine to another virtual machine that has more disk space on the partition of the OS?  I'll have to rebuild every fresh as Server Server 2008 domain controller and then transfer the roles via?

    Thank you.

You don't need to run the converter... stop the 2003 domain controller.  Change the virtual machine to increase the size of the disk.  Fix the VMDK on a different VM like saying 'F drive '.  It boot up... run diskpart and extend drive "F".  Shutdown... Remove the extended DC drive of the virtual machine.  Then put on the DC... here's no wobbly thing done to the domain controller.

All this should not take more than 3 minutes and no need to enter the command line (ok, other than the 2 lines of diskpart on BACK).

  • Problem with to demote a domain controller

    Hi all

I tried today demote a domain controller, but my domain environment is still need of this domain controller to work.
I have windows Server 2003 Small Business DC as DC1 & lately I added windows Server 2008 R2 DC as DC2 in the new box as an additional area. Now, I need to downgrade the windows server 2003 SB (DC1) in an old box.
I transferred FSMO (all 5 roles) and remove DC1 from the announcement. In addition, remove it AD users & computers and Services of & Sites AD and DNS... I used the steps in this link: http://www.petri.co.il/delete_failed_dcs_from_ad.htm
When Dc1 is not connected to the network, you receive this error (see this picture of this link http://i41.tinypic.com/30upoxj.png) every time I opened all the consoles AD (AD users & computers, etc...).
Also, when I tried to change the domain controller, it seems that he could not located the domain or domain controllers. Please, see this photo from this link: http://i43.tinypic.com/2n6afx1.png
I can solve it reconnect DC1 to the network, but I don't want to keep it longer, and I don't know what Miss me? Also, I tried to use dcpromo to remove the domain controller DC1, but I got an error message that tells me that this is not the last domain controller in the forest and cannot proceed with the removal of the DC.
Can you help me as soon as POSSIBLE, I'm right here.
Waiting for your answer... Thank you!

  • Domain controller 2003 desktop 10

    Hello

I get a constant error when I try to promote a Windows Server 2003 guest on a DC on workstation 10.0.4.  The error is:

"Security Accounts Manager initialization failed because of the following error: failed to start Directory Service." The error status: 0xc00002e1. If please clock OK to shutdown this system and reboot into Directory Services Restore Mode. »

I get it constantly if I invited a completely clean install of the OS with no patches, an installation of SP2 fully patched or create a clone that is bound to a model - I used this model even many, many times with older versions of VMWare Workstation (on the same host) without problem and have done many installs own on previous versions of workstation without problem , so for the moment I can only assume it's related to something in 10 Workstation, as much as I can follow the same process on VirtualBox to create a domain controller 2003 (using the same installation for clean installation media) and get a DC without any problem with happiness.

I have good knowledge of the AD and followed the instructions in the Microsoft KB articles (specifically KB258062) for the above error and am able to solve and get AD works fine, but then the next reboot the virtual machine the error returns.

The log file of the client is attached.

    Any ideas?

    Hi all

Just put an update here for all the world reference.  I solved this problem and a few others that I had where Server Manager on a server OS comments fails with CLR errors or updates would fail.

The cause seems to be that I was to store the virtual machines on a Pool of storage R2 Server 2012 (Server R2 2012 is the host machine), where I had a couple of discs actually provide a RAID 0 configuration.  I now divide these discs so that they are quite "normal" disks and I shared my virtual machines manually between the discs and all my problems disappeared.

This only seemed to affect my SATA III 2 TB disks that I have a couple of SSD in a Storage Pool and they seem to work fine (maybe a speed/cache associated effect?)

  • Windows 2003 domain controller

    Hi Expert,

Since a few days my business met the internet problem. All the PC and server connected to the DC not able to go online. After a few minute 15-20 minute network is automatically recovered and able to go online. I checked with ISP they confirmed no question about they site. Our main installed dns on the PDC as well. Can one confirmed no matter what happens on the domain controller may cause the network problem in devices that connected to the domain controller?

This issue is beyond the scope of this site (for consumers) and to be sure, you get the best (and fastest) reply, we have to ask either on Technet (for IT Pro) or MSDN (for developers)
