My question is: if I install VMware Server 2 in this scenario, I'll be able to allocate remaining 8 GB of physical mem for my virtual machines. What performance in this scenrio? I'd like to run two virtual machines (2003 data backup server and backup exchange server) 4 GB each.

  Since your host is limited to 4 GB, you cannot allocate more than that.

  You should better install a 64 bit OS host if you want to use all of the memory, if your hardware supports.

  I had problems with the interface web vmware server 2. When I first install vmware server 2 on a clean system, it works fine. However, after a reboot, the web interface is more accessible to the general public.

  When I do

  "netstat - anp |" grep vm ' I see port 902 listening however ports 8222 and 8333.

  SELInux is disabled, I also turned to IPtables and ip6tables as well as fedora firewall.

  I tried rerun vmware - config.pl, however this does not resolve the issue. I also tried to restart the management interface and that does not work either.

  When I restart the vmware service, everything seems fine:

  I had same problem - Fedora 14 64 bit & vmware 2.0.2... and nothing on google :-/

  Because I have not found a solution for this problem, so I wrote this post (my first btw :-))

  After you install vmware (and patch before), everything works well before the first server to restart. After reboot - web access (port 8222 & 8333) has not worked.

  For me, it has worked:

  (1) check if vmware - spend is running (when vmware service is started):

  # ps to the | grep vmware - pass

  --------------------------

  root of 1752 0.0 0.6 50760 225708?        SSL 14:36 0:01 / usr/lib/vmware/bin/vmware-hostd - a d u - /etc/vmware/hostd/config.xml

  (2) If vmware - spend does not, try to run vmware - pass manually (without the-d (demon) parameter):

  # / usr/lib/vmware/bin/vmware-hostd - a u /etc/vmware/hostd/config.xml

  --------------------------

  (there was no mistake as.. libvmomi.so.1.0: no such file or directory)

  (3) copy (or link) libraries starting from/usr/lib/vmware/vmacore/and/usr/lib/vmware/lib/to /lib64/

  # cp /usr/lib/vmware/vmacore/libvmomi.so.1.0 /lib64/
  

  # cp /usr/lib/vmware/vmacore/libvmacore.so.1.0 /lib64/
  

  # cp /usr/lib/vmware/lib/libexpat.so.0/libexpat.so.0 /lib64/

  (4) just try to restart the vmware service or server; I had to run vmware - config.pl new - vmware crashed.

  If this isn't the case, vmware - always come running after you restart, try to rerun manually and wait minute (if it is started).

  I already had virtual machine in vmware, so I got another problem...

  VMware-get started, but just for a minute. After a minute, he wrote something as... out of memory. I tried to rename my vm and vmware has worked well (WebAccess Inc.) ...

  So... Here is the solution to another problem...

  Estoy con el tema virtualizacion, uso linux, para ser exactos Debian Lenny 5. Me dio por test Vmware, pero me estan leaving some as otros problemas. For example the virtual machine detengo cuando, me sale el siguiente error:

  I have a centos 5.4 with server 2.0.2 vmware server installed on it. I am running two virtual machines on it: Microsoft windows xp pro sp3 and Centos 5.4 (the two 32-bit).

  I have the last time, my virtual machines are automatically shut down, for example: I start the two vm at night and in the morning they are turned off.

  Often happens that vmware-mngm service is not accessible, I'm trying to access on browser, but is not accessible. After I restarted the service vmware-mngm, it works, but aflte some operations with virtual machines, it gives me an error and stop responding again.

  But I have not found the two sample applications provided (usr/share/doc/vmware/vmware-vmci/samples/or C:\Program Tools\VMCI\SampleApplications\README from VMware).

  First, you decide what you want to use the VMWARE server.

  If you want to use vmware server for only to keep the plane comments at end of test system administartion, during the installation of VMware server you will need to customize your installation.

  In the Customize installation disable the Modules Perl script which are used for development purposes, after installing the server, go to services & disable services unwanted, assume that you use no DHCP & NAT, then disable these services.   When you create your mechine comments try to reduce unwanted devices, how to remove the floppy drive if you don't want to use in the mechine comments. like this, try to reduce the additional devices you use rarely, if you're runnin server edition comments mechines, then try to reduce you is display resolution, which will give a good performance.

  Because of performance problems, we try to convert a machine Console VMware Server 1.0.4 for VMware ESX Server 3i, using VMware converter standalone client 4.0.1 vcentre but it is a failure with the answer "the destination can't stand not 64-bit clients.

  We believe that ESX3i supports 64-bit machines - there is an option to create one, if we were to start from scratch.

  Hi everyone, new guy here.

  I downloaded 580 MB vmware-server and even installed.  It appeared to install correctly and place a vmserver on the desktop icon.  However, I thought I could just click and vm would lead me through the installation of an operating system.  Not the case.  He went to a web page where he asked me a username and password.
