VMware View with mixed processors on hosts

Hello

I have a client with an existing vmware view environment. the hosts are of 3 years older AMD servers, which will be replaced in the coming years.

because of performance, we will move from AMD to Intel.

We have a picture of office of parent in a floating pool automated with linked clones.

When you start windows on a new processor architecture, you will receive a message that the hardware has changed a you must restart.

So the question how it reacts, when using quickprep.

everyone experiences with that? This working group or failure of deployment process?

Greetings from vmworld Barcelona

Ah, I see. Yes, once the Parent virtual machine was launched on the new hardware, the two processors exist in Windows. Windows clean up one old is why it stays in place which prevents the message from appearing again.

  • Automation of VMWare View with PCOIP 5.0

    Hello

I am trying to automate the execution of applications in VMWare View Client (PCOIP). However, I'm stuck with sending the keys to applications. I tried in vain on the keyboard to screen, SendKeys, keyboard hook to this effect. I also read VIX API documentation but I don't think that it works for me because I don't have administrator rights. Please notify.

    Kind regards

I'm not sure I understand the question either, but I had some success using AutoIT (http://www.autoitscript.com/site/autoit/) for automation in the past. Using this, you can compile a script as an executable to run in the virtual machine.

If you do not have rights admin on the virtual machine, you can still use the Run value in the registry for the current user to start an application when you connect. Have you tried to put the path to the executable file that you are trying to launch in the HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run?

You might be able to use both of these ideas and set the path to an AutoIT executable in the HKCU Run key to get the automation level you are looking for.

  • VMWare View with RSA SecurID integration

    Hi all.

We try to make VMware View to authenticate users through RSA SecurID according to the attached document. However, it is not clear where to put the node Secret file that is generated on the RSA Authentication Manager server? It is exported in the form of .rec file and is protected by a password, but server configuration view has all fields to load the node secret file. Should I simply rename the securid .rec file and put in %SystemRoot%\System32\securid? But how to do View Server to decrypt this file by using the password then?

On the RSA server, I see in the newspapers:

    2010-03-12 08:05:49U-

    /viewservername.company.com-

    12/03/2010 03:05:49U verification of node doesn't have a rsa - ace - server.company.com

    RSA doc says

"An incompatibility between the secret of node stored on an authentication manager and subsequently stored on an Agent Host may occur if you delete and re-create an Agent Host, or if you accidentally delete a secret file of the nodes. The incompatibility prevents messages between devices which is decrypted and causes the Agent Host deny access to all users who attempt to log on. Node of that check failed is recorded in the audit trail.

  • VMware VI3, VMware View with Novell eDirectory integration

    Hello

We are a COMPUTER consulting company and we have a lot of colleges and universities using Novell looking at VMware VI3 and VMware VIew.

    (1) for VMware VI3 tabs of permissions must be able to connect to an LDAP server to Active Directory only.

    (2) for VMware VIew 3, the VMware Agent should be integrated into the Novell Client for Windows...

We did a little proof of concept with VMware View, and each time that the Novell Client are causing a lot of problems with VMware View Agent. It's bad because these 2 projects has been more than 10000 thin clients. They decided to Citrix XenDesktop used instead.

It'll be great if you can built your product with the architecture of Novell.

    Yes, it would be nice

a question: you say that a decision was made to use XenDesktop: are you still using VMware VI3? or XenServer?

  • VMware view with VSA

Hi everyone, we have the intention to deploy vmware view 5 and we have SAN/SAN, I learned to know that vSphere Storage Appliance to get the benefits of VMHA/DRS one suggests that will be ok if we deploy VSA instead of dedicated purchase SAN/NAS storage,.

Glad I could help.  Please give the points, I try to get on the top 10 in the forums.  Thank you!

  • Is it wise to use VMware View with Citrix branch repeater?

    Guys,

Is it possible to use Citrix branch repeater for VMware View 4.5? Seems that it is not possible or is meaningless, I Googled, but impossible to find clues.

    Thoughts?

    Thank you

    Laughing out loud

If you want a RODC so make sure you use the branch Repeater, but I guess you want to use it for WAN acceleration.  If so you must keep in mind that Citrix using ICA and the BR which accelerates.  View uses RDP and PCoIP (I hope you use PCoIP) PCoIP is UDP based and a BR who would not help.  Cisco's web acceleration products that could help.  Also, I hope that you will see an Accelerator for PCoIP in 2011.

  • VMware vs vmware view vs. horizon wdm

    Hi dear friends

I need to know what is withholding wdm of vmware with vmware view with view horizon (features, tools and technical sheet)

If there is this a document please show me

They are essentially the same product, with more recent versions (which contain additional features) coming out under a slightly different name - the order you listed them is also the order of the liberation. VMware VDM has been renamed to VMware View, and when it is included in the Suite of the Horizon, it was changed to Horizon of VMware View. Why do you specifically, the licensing options?

  • VMware View is over-equipped?

    Hello!

Having a small company of VMware View seems MUCH too complicated and overengineered. Can this be true?

I mean that the alternative is a pWindows machine to connect to a machine vWindows with mstsc.exe. I know it is not completely the same, but it is also very long path between a solution that works out-of-the-box and VMware View with much installation of the client OS, directory servers, see security, view connection server, server transfer from view, the slim viewers, tool view composer and General everything that is necessary to get this working.

And then it only works for Windows desktop computers. Using something like the console in vSphere client redirection is able to display all the OS' are - even Android!

(Ok! Forcing my employees to use for their daily work vSphere client would proberbly many resignations ;-)) but I is possible!

    Am I missing something here? I mean VMware-view-evaluators - Guide.pdf is 152 pages (!) - long 'mstsc.exe remoteserver' is just... a line?

Is there a simple solution for this. It's like building a spaceship to get a Coke to the nearest 7-11. It's 'just' a shutoff Holy crap! :-)

    Best regards

    -Green Morten Hermansen

Don't forget when you are dealing with 10-50 VM that is not for to be honest.

You see a company of 10 or 20 depending on what lines you have you can find a service provider where they can provide you with da (computer desktop as a Service) and which would reduce as much cost

I did a small deployment without costly storage and costly servers and the system worked well.

Then give the user a Zero-Client and boom!

  • The simplest configuration of vmware view?

    Good evening

We have a small project with 5 desktop computers (= Users) and we think that it would be a good place to test VMware View.

Unfortunately, it seems that we must implement the 4 servers to serve 5 customers:

    • See connection to the server
    • VMWare vCenter Server with View Composer
    • ESX Server
    • View transfer server

What is the most simple and functional solution for VMware View with 5 users?

The only software they use is a simple accounting tool that works very well with 100 k of memory...

We hope that we can install a simple solution like this:

    HP (server) hardware with:

    • ESX Server with:
      • 1 x Windows 2008 R2 with Active Directory and the file server
      • 1 x Windows 2008 R2 with VMWare View to serve the 5 office users

Unfortunately, there are no pre-sales VMware does support form / email (we hope that there is a customer support).

Therefore, it would be great if someone can help us to answer this question.

Thank you very much in advance,

    Kind regards

    Thomas

I also wonder how this bake-off will go. I hope that the victories of view! In order to achieve this please take a good look at the documentation of the view. I also highly recommend that you take a look at the guide to optimize Windows 7 to see: http://www.vmware.com/files/pdf/VMware-View-OptimizationGuideWindows7-EN.pdf

This will show you how to build a good image of Win 7 basis for review. Also note that it is strongly recommended that you build your base images starting from zero and NOT P2V them. You can quickly and easily build images for operating systems Windows using MDT 2010 update 1. This tool is free and is Microsoft. I strongly recommend that you take a look. In addition, many optimizations for Win7 and view are also good for use with Xen. Good luck.

  • VMotion between 2 Hosts with different processors

    Hallo,

I have a server in my homelab I use for studies of VMsphere and I want to get a second machine to test advanced features such as HA, Vmotion etc.

My first server has a map of X9SCM-9 with processor Xeon E3-1230V2 (Ivy Bridge). I am currently running ESX 5.0 U2 on it.

I was counting on obtaining of material quality for the second host consumers because I don't want to spend a lot on it, so I thought that I need any CPU generation Ivy Bridge.

I tested today with a second machine with a Pentium G2020 Ivy Bridge, but when I try to Vmotion he says "the virtual machine requires physical features that are not available or disabled on the host... ».

So I figure there must be a difference in architecture regardless of the CPU beeing an Ivy Bridge CPU.

When I try to activate CVS it just me are going to the 'Nehalem' Version so my virtual machines running on host 1 would not be able to use all the features of the CPU since the Xeon.

So the question boils down to: what is the processor less which offer compatibility VCA L5?

Or is there something else to consider in VMotion between two hosts with different processors?

I got a shared storage, etc. of the same network configuration.

    Thank you

    Benjamin

    Hi Benjamin,

For compatibility VCA L5 want to look at one of the following models, Intel CPU:

    • Ivy Bridge: Series E3-1200-v2
    • HASWELL

I would recommend mental health that before rushing and a CPU purchase, check if a cheaper option would be, as Jon mentions in suppresss some fo the CPU compatibility checks so obviously, this is not desirable in a production environment, and must be applied in your study of VMware Lab to the home address.

    Hope this helps,

    Simon

  • VMware View Client can 'close' host Windows 7?

Can VMware View Client 4.6 'close' a client Windows 7 physical host device when it is turned on (Thin Client or desktop running Windows 7)? The behavior desired is to let the user simply turn on their thin Client or a desktop computer running Windows 7 Starter Edition or another version of Windows and not Windows desktop appears. The VMware View client connects directly to the broker and then to the VM user login screen? The customer or the user of the Dektop can simply access the connection of the user view not the physical host Windows box?

For XP/XPe installed locally on you thin client, you can change the default shell of Explorer to wswc.exe (Customer View). More information about this you can read here: http://blogs.vmware.com/view/2009/02/vmware-view-client-as-a-shell-for-xpe-and-xp-pro-clients.html

According to me, this thing with some addition settings should work with Win 7.

There is also some proprietary software, for example: http://www.thinlaunch.com/thin-desktop-client.asp

  • Multi processor Support of Vmware View type?

    Hello world!

We currently use with 2 esxi Vmware view manager. We recently VMS more used by the user. We are considering purchasing a new server (since we have an unused license).

Our two existing Esxi installed on two Dell Poweredge Intel Xeon E5440 (2 x 4 core 2.8 ghz)

We have a very good price for a Dell that is to have an AMD processor (2 x 6 drivers). It work?

We believe that this could cause trouble because of the Vmotion... which way an Intel VM to an AMD...

If I'm not clear enough, not hesitate to ask!

    Thank you!
