Volume - volume wheel - Portege M800 level jumps

Hi all

I have Toshiba Portege M800 and I have a problem with the volume knob.
If I try to increase or decrease the volume of this volume knob, it will change, but the volume does not change linear.

For example, when I increase the volume from 0 to something, volume changes, during rolling, for example 0-1-2-3-4-5-3-8-6 (this is just an example).

Why it does not change linear, for example 0-1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8?
Is it caused by the software or it's hardware problem?

I could claim the goods?

Thank you.

Hello

I had a similar problem with the volume level on my laptop satellite.
I am tired of everything; updated the BIOS, driver sound, I reinstalled my OS using Roecvery disc but I didn t notice any improvements.

Finally my ASP technician checked the volume wheel and cleaned the contacts and removed the dust.
It's the key
Dirt affected the functionality of volume knob

In my case it helped, but this does not mean that this will help you as well.
I think you should also update the BIOS and check if you can update the audio driver.
If this will not help then he recommends contacting the technician of the ASP for advice

My volume wheel does not work as it should, when I'm trying to turn down the volume, he jumps again. even when turning upward, it's the jump down. Put upwards or downwards to turn and turn and turn until it moves. If I fire the sound upward is like it is move 1 up, 1 down, 1 up, 1 down, 2 up, 1 down... and so on.
Does anyone have a solution for this problem? It's like that in the Qosmio player and Windows.

    Hi Truls

It's very strange question. I too have the Qosmio G20, but have no problem like this.
This problem occurs only if you use the wheel of volume on the right side or the same thing will happen if you change the volume using Volume control tool?

My father has a Tecra A8-203 (see link below). I recently reinstalled XP and manually installed all the required drivers. Hello

I assume you mean the volume control dialog that will appear on the display if you use volume wheel. Right?
You will need to first install the common Modules for Win XP.
    Then utilities and controls.

On the European driver Toshiba page, you can find all the drivers and tools, but you have to look in the archives. The form of download driver product type choose archive.
Then you will get all the drivers

There is also an installation instructions txt file follow this order and I m sure you will get it to work.

  • Satellite L500-1WG - broken Volume wheel

Can someone help or advise how I can fix this?

The volume turns down only, no matter that I turn the dial in a way!

It has stopped working properly after about 3 months of owning the laptop. In turn down very well, but it will not turn back upward. Can I use the bottom right of the screen volume control, but it's a bit annoying to have to use that all the time, would be better if the dial has worked properly.

How can I find the laptop for repair? Still under warranty I think.

    Thank you
    Justin

    Hi justin,

    Hmm... Which is really weird.

I can t say much about this because my laptop doesn t have such a volume wheel but you have this problem on the version preinstalled Windows or on your own installation?

In your case, I would try to update the audio driver. Take a look at the official website of Toshiba for a pilot of its new.

    Check this box!

  • How can I set the default volume for the sound level of the wave in Windows XP

When I start or restart my computer running Windows XP Professional, the wave volume goes up to the max level.  This happens even if I set the volume to a level very low.  The volume control shows 'SoundMAX Digital Audio' at the bottom.

I guess I could figure out how to do; However, it seems that it would be disabling applications and not answering is not to reason the volume resets to max level on boot-up the top.

  • Portege M800 - noise and HWSetup does not start

    Hello

    I use a Portege M800-116 under XP - SP3.

    Problem 1:
Connection Line-Out to a stereo system and play music with Winamp or WinMediaPlayer works fine on battery.
As soon as I connect the power adapter, a whistle loud high frequency and UM static disrupts the experience.

    Problem 2:
Files WAV or MP3 recording with internal or external microphone produce mediocre results.
The resulting files include a high level of high frequency noise and hum static.
Connect the power supply increases the problem.

Comparing the quality of the recording and playback with my old confidence Portege M100:
My M800 is one not only of poor quality - it's plain unusable.

    Problem 3:
Toshiba HWSetup does not start from the control panel.
Have you tried the ONU - and re - installing nothing helps.

Thank you for guiding me towards a solution.

    Hi, fly,

I m not Portege M800 owner so I can t he test for you, but I think that if the problem occurs only when the AC adapter is connected, it s a grounding problem

    You have 3-pin or 2-pin AC/DC adapter?
As far as I know in this case you need 3-pin AC/DC adapter and power cord.

You should ask an ASP in your country. Guys can order a new AC/DC adapter and check your laptop to what the problem is exactly.

  • Defective screen on Portege M800

I bought a PORTEGE (M800-107) in 2009 and before the expiration of the 3-year-old warranty (2012), the screen went black all the time.
I sent it to the official service of TOSHIBA in Greece (called "IDEAL his '), who fixed it in about a month (and after two attempts).
A year and a half later, the screen went black again. Now they ask me 500 euros for the replacement of the screen. Of course I won't give all these money.
Portege was the 3rd Toshiba laptop, I used. I chose it because I wanted something powerful and professional. The irony is that the more expensive model has exploded sooner than the cheapest.
However, it was the LAST ONE on your part.

PS: in order to take my laptop (without attachment), I have to pay 30 euros for check technicians!
Really, you know someone who goes to the service for fun? Or I am responsible for the failure of your model?

    Hello

To be honest I m was really asking you this display problem. Portege and Tecra are the best notebooks of Toshiba business line and for years, they are known as products of high quality with the best material.

Anyway, sometimes the best products have problems and be in trouble. Similar things happen with all technical products. I know that's enough damage and angry, especially in the time when you need your laptop.

Maybe it sounds stupid now, but maybe you can buy view on your own and find someone who can exchange it for you. I did it for my friend a few years ago. We purchased watch on eBay and we exchanged it alone. Of course on our own risk.

    Bye and good luck

  • Portege M800 - Touchpad light extinguishes, and comp slows

    I have a Portege M800, model PPM81C-05C020.

My problem is that the light above my touchpad dims and then gradually turns off completely. When this happens, I can't use the touchpad. Fortunately, I have an external mouse plugged in, but when the Synaptics mouse turns off, it also slows down my computer. I type this post very slowly and it still takes forever for words on the screen to catch up as I type. I thought that maybe the driver was somehow defective, so I went on the Toshiba site and tried to download the driver for this series of laptop and then restarted, but it did not help. I ran various programs to ensure there is no registry errors, but they all come back clean.

I don't know what to do. I brought to a place of computer before and they managed to fix it, but 2 months later, the problem is recurring. Help! : S

    Hello

This driver you downloaded from the official website of Toshiba?

I would recommend a driver update from the official website of Toshiba touchpad:
    http://www.Toshiba.ca

And interesting to know what OS you have.

    Hi Adrien

I think that Akuma is right. Your laptop must be verified by the service of Toshiba s. Let check your laptop and I hope they will help you with this.

  • Is possible to use the second HDD in PPM81E Portege M800-105

    Hello!

Does anyone know, if it is possible to extend a Portege M800 - 105 model No. PPM81E with a second HDD?
Is there a MediaBay for the DVD player to install a second hard drive?

My goal is to use a Solid State Disk (64GByte) as the first disc (System only) and store all user data on the second drive.

    Best regards
    Sven

    Hello

To my knowledge it is not possible to use a second HDD Portege M800.

The laptop supports eSATA connection so you can connect an external HARD drive.

    Welcome them

  • Portege M800-103 - Bluetooth not working not not Linux

    Hello.

I have a Toshiba Portege M800-103 (PPM81A) and a system to dual-boot with Windows Vista and Ubuntu 8.1 x86_64 (recently installed).
Almost everything works well under Ubuntu except bluetooth, which is not yet recognized.

I also tried the omnibook and the toshset (with unbearable = 12) drivers. I have had no success at all.

Little help would be greatly appreciated!

    Thank you

Have you checked OS support for this model of laptop computer?
As much as I know this Portege is not Linux supported and Toshiba doesn't offer BT stack for Linux.

Have you checked some Ubuntu forum? Maybe you can find some useful information there. I imagine that a lot of people have the same problem with the different laptop models.

  • Portege M800 - how to disable Intel SpeedStep?

    Hi all

can anyone tell me please where to disable Intel SpeedStep in BIOS of my Portege M800? I have already updated to the latest version 4.80 but I can't yet find a related Intel SpeedStep option.

    Best regards

    Dante

    Hello

Why you want to disable SpeedStep? I mean that's a feature and not a bug ;)
SpeedStep can improve the performance of your laptop, because the CPU will be a little more overclocked card motherboard/BIOS if you run programs of high CPU usage. So that s nice

If you want to disable, you must do in Windows power management if you can find t such an option in the BIOS.

  • Portege M800: The fan is almost always on

    Hello!

I have a Portege M800 M105 with Vista 64 bit. The fan is almost always on despite the fact that the temperature of the CPU is about 43 to 46 Grad Celsius and the CPU has nothing to do. I used the program Speedfan (http://www.almico.com/speedfan.php) to display the temperature. I find that the noise of the fan is very noisy.
Is there a possibility to control the fan, so that it will be only noisy when the temperature is high?

    Best regards
    Sven

    Hello

You are right. The Toshiba Power Saver for Win XP looks completely different as the Vista energy saver.
But you can also change many settings in Vista energy saver that contribute to the use of the battery power decreases.

The power settings are a bit hidden in the Vista energy saver but check this thread posted by Jayjay:
    http://forums.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=38906&TSTART=0

You will find a link to the doc of Toshiba:
[How to manage Windows Vista power management features | http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD84026Q0000R01.htm]

How to manage power settings in Vista there are has many useful tips.

    Hopw this helps.

    Good bye

  • Portege M800-106 - bad quality by using the external monitor

I use an external monitor LG Flatron L1811S on my Portege M800 and find that the image is not rock solid when I use the display on my desktop or screen of the M800.
It is particularly visible on the big patches of color block where I can see shimmering light. I noticed that it's especially bad if I recently reconnected the laptop to the network after using on battery power until the battery is fully charged.

This makes me think that the PSU interferes with the VGA output?
    Any ideas?
