Vs GS208 vs GS608 GS108

I see almost no difference in the specs between switches GS108/208/608. One of these is actually a superior product, or the seller does just pay twice as much for the addition of "Business class" to the brand? This purchase is for use of Home Office, with a few large internal volume of traffic longer than the usual external video cable-bandwidth limited downloads, etc.

Thank you!

Hi rdb,

Yes, all PROSAFE line has a higher MTBF over SOHO versions, and it has a lifetime warranty hardware thats why the price is a little different. Performance should be the same, although they may have a different hardware and chipsets, the GS208 is the latest version of the GS608, you can consider an update of cheaper material.

Thank you

  • Replacement of FS105 with GS108

    Hello

I'm new and have been looking for an answer online, but fails. I need additional network ports in my living room and my FS105 5 port box is replaced by a new GS108 8 port box. I'm online with 3800hgv-b AT & T uverse router/modem. I had a work put in place with my FS105 in the living room and I thought replacing a GS108 would be simple plug-and-play. I seems that whenever I connect the power of my GS108 (or do it running on the cable network) He knocks out my Wi - Fi, my cable TV and internet cable. To get online I am now, I have to unplug the power supply of the GS108.

Am I missing something with connections? It is not a simple plug-and-play? Has anyone heard talk where had this problem and fixed it? I'll test it all in reconnection and replace my GS108 by the previous FS105.

    Thank you

    Hello

Boy, I have egg on my face for this one. Quite an interesting question. To answer your questions, Yes and yes it was new. And the implementation of works, now that I've set up how I schematized in fact.

It seems that I had not only a coaxial cable of my DVR1 but my network cable cat6 (which is not connected to the Slingbox) as well. I'm an extra uverse system found contradictory signals coming to my DVR and somehow broken my tv/internet.

I even had a guy get out of AT & T, replace my modem (which was so old that he had never seen before) and look behind my equipment to see if he could find the problem. It was only after he left I connected and test ran every appliance in my old FS105 5 port, was the same crash, until I found the Uncable causing him. And so, it leads to the DVR when I followed him.

    Problem solved, stupidly...

Thank you for your time and please keep this situation as a learning experience.

  • GS208 Connectivity in D7000

HI - just invest in the D7000 Nighthawk modem router and wifi is all good. However, I have a problem with the Netgear GS208 network switch. Its plugged in and turned on, but does not log anything. I can plug the RPI (openremote2 controller) on the D7000, and everything is good. But I plug it into the GS208 that is plugged on the D7000 and does not as a connected device. Everything is turned on. Usually, the GS208 lights according to ethernet is plugged in but not that connected to the D7000.

    Thoughts?

Tri - seems to be the ethernet cable.

is there a type of speciall called crossover? I think that's what it could be. It seems that its not required.

Who is? Anywho - a fixed regular cable.

  • Time capsule and extreme; Cannot create the roaming network

Problem: when you try to create a network roaming with time capsule and extreme, the wifi hangs and the network is up and down. Here are my deets:

TC and extreme as well have the latest firmware of the 7.7.7 are the latest generation of products, purchased in the last 12 months

TC is connected to Arris SB6183

ISP is Cox North san diego County

TC is then connected to the netgear GS105. (upstairs)

NETGEAR GS105 then connects to GS108 (down in the patch panel in the closet of the master bedroom)

    1 x GS108 port connects to extreme

I can get the stable network and works correctly as long as I don't have connected and extreme.

I followed the instructions provided by apple in their "how to set up a roaming network.

I have hard reset the devices apple repeatedly in my attempt to get things to work

I started a Wan shortly ago at the connected WiFi and that was stable and work for not more than 30 minutes and then it went offline.

So here I am now. Unable to get back online and stable with two apple devices connected network.

System was stable and working well before the upgrade to 7.7.7. I had a wifi connected network not a roaming network at the time.

Any suggestion would be great and really appreciated.

    Thank you

After screenshots of the TC and AE installing airport utility.

I suspect that you simply have something set wrong...

Main error is to use extend wireless when it is connected by ethernet... This will create a loop and bring down the network.

The two units must be defined to create a wireless network... both must use the same name (SSID) and the same password, but must be set to different channels.

It is almost impossible in this case crashing the network since the two are completely independent Wireless Access Points... (WAP).

The TC must be in router mode... EI must be in the bridge (bridge mode off on the network tab.)

  • GS208v2 guard disconnect the devices connected to it

I bought on of them to use in my home office and, before that, was my LAN directly to my office in my wireless router.

Whenever I connect the LAN cable to the switch, then a cable on the desk, within 2 minutes, the desktop computer loses its connection and it is not until I reboot the switch.

I use win 10, would that be a problem or is the unit itself outdated softwarewise? Don't know what else to do. I tried to go on the netgear site to see if it might be a firmware but can't find anything.

    @Net-Gear That's happened?

    Hi Elaine,.

I should have reported earlier. Well, it was a user error. I used what looked like a LAN cable, as you know it seems ike just a regular ethernet cable (it was a ptach cable). It didn't say CAT 5 etc. on it.

So I went to that was CAT5e cable and it worked. I had a permanent connection with the GS208 since then, no problem at all.

  • Flashing led but no internet connection

Hi I have a gs108 switch and I connected to my modem and my pc and it works fine, so my problem is that when I connect an ethernet cable from the switch to my TV or ps3 im unable to get internet connection on my TV has recommended that I use a proxy, then I may be able to have a connection that i havnt tried yet and the ps3 seems to not detect the ip address

    Hello Cai,

    Welcome to the community!

You will probably need a router instead of a switch, a basic modem can only give a unique IP address. Because you used the PC, he's already got the IP address of the modem. Why the TV and the PS3 does not get an IP address is because the modem can provide only 1 (one). Use of the switches is to receive and send the traffic, so it has nothing to do with the IP address.

I hope this helps, if you have any other questions do not hesitate to ask.

    Thank you

  • LAN N450 connection through a switch problem

I replaced my router from Time Warner Ubee with a Netgear N450. I have 2 desktop computers and TV and PS3 in my basement that is connected to a Netgear GS108 switch 8 gigabit ports. Everything worked fine until I swapped the router. All my wireless devices work and the office in our head office that is connected directly to the N450 work. A desktop running Win XP Pro, the other works under Win 7. I don't get "LAN was not a valid IP configuration errors. I rebooted everything, turn off DHCP and tried to manually enter the IP information, power off the pc from the wall outlet, etc. and spent several hours on researching this issue. Any ideas would be useful.

Problem solved. I brought the Win 7 PC upstairs and connected directly to the router. The PC immediately recognised and connected to my home network. Then, in order to eliminate potential problems with the switch itself or wiring, I brought the upstairs switch and connected between the router and the PC Win 7. Same results as above - connected to the network home and Internet. Took everything back down and voila - both PC is now successfully connected to the host and the internet using DHCP network automatically. Not sure why it worked. I went through this simple process to diagnose potential hardware issues.

  • HP LaserJet 200 colorMFP M276n slow or does not respond after sleep/wake

    Hi all

Bought a printer HP Laserjet M276n colorMFP 200. Set up the printer and it's printing of windows and mac computers (also via the local area network (wireless) and even the iPad and iPhone) and scan directly to the pc and mac. Also configured the network folder scan function. Works like charm.

But... When I try to do something after the machine is in "standby mode" everything goes wrong.

1 - printing takes longer path to front.

2 - operation of the toutchscreen (for scanning to network folders, or to photocopy anything) is not feasible. If the machine says it takes about 10 to 15 seconds per order. Sometimes the machine does not respond.

3 - wireless devices sometimes have trouble with the connection to the device.

4 - access to the machine via the web interface content (yet) is slower, if not impossible.

When I manually reboot the printer (using the power button) the machine works fine again.

But I can't immagine what how HP intends to use the machine.

Anyone know how to solve this problem, or if it could be a configuration error during my dissertation?

Also is it possible to disable the sleep mode at all?

    Thanks in advance.

    Kind regards

    The program installation/Specs:

The printer that is connected to a switch. Connected to the router (wireless).

Printer is not directly connected to any computer over the network.

On the printer, I put 'Sleep delay' to '1 hour '.

On the printer, I set 'Auto Power' down on '' never. ''

    router: Cisco EPC3925

    switch: Netgear GS108

Thanks for letting me know Per_Duringshoff.

I checked online and the latest version of the firmware is 20140521. But it is not a list for 10.9 update.

10.8 has the firmware update available. If you have less then 10.9 another Mac or a Windows computer, you can run the update of the firmware in this way. Color HP LaserJet Pro 200 pilot M276nw MFPS.

Let me know when had time to try the steps listed and if it helped.

  • E3200 status for the Port issues

    Hello

On my E3200 (Firmware v1.0.04), I service gigabit (technology Versa Vx-200E) plugged into the WAN port and 4 lines connected to the LAN ports.

"The Internet Port" shows 10 / 100 Mbps (why could - this be?)

    LAN Status port:

1 - Gigabit poster.  (Connected to a Gigabit Netgear GS108 switch)

2 Watch at all without status (connected to a switch gigabit TP-Link TL-SG10005D)

3 watch at all without status (connected to a switch gigabit TP-Link TL-SG10005D)

4 watch at all without status (connected to a switch gigabit TP-Link TL-SG10005D)

Why the Internet Port displays 10/100 when a Gigabit is connected to it?

Why do 2-4 LAN ports show no status at all?

    Thank you.

    Paul

Hey, Paul! The WAN port on the router is not gigabit capable so there is no way he will go beyond 10/100. The LAN ports will show only status if data packets are transferred.

  • Ping/connection impossible to the freshly installed ESXi 5.5

For background, I have 6 servers connected to a NetGear GS608 switch.  Each of the 6 servers turned Fedora 14 and could ping / communicate with each other without any problems.

On one of 6 servers, I have installed ESXi 5.5 and assigned a static IP (the same IP address that he had) and the correct subnet mask.  When I try to ping it now, without success.  Other servers can still communicate with each other, so I think that ESXi is configured incorrectly in some way.  I've never worked with ESXi before so I don't know what to start looking.  I went through the different menu options and nothing more to configure.  The different tutorials, I have watched make me think that I don't miss a decisive step.

Any help and advice would be appreciated.

This adapter only is actually not supported for ESXi 5.5, here is the number

  • vSphere Home Lab: very slow network speed, I'm desperate

    Hello

After many trials that I have finally found the right hardware build my vsphere home laboratory.

    This is my setup:

    ESXi1

    ASUS P6T Deluxe V2

    I7 920

    24 GB OF DDR3 MEMORY

2 x Intel Pro 1000 GT Desktop Ethernet adapter

    2 ESXi

    i5-2500

    16 GB OF DDR3 MEMORY

1 x Intel Pro 1000 GT EthernetDesktop adapter

    NAS

    ASUS P7H55-M

    Intel Core i3-540

Windows Server 2008 R2 with Starwind iSCSI

    Realtek Gigabit Ethernet

I have a Netgear GS108 where I plugged all the ethernet cables over my ADSL Modem, a Linksys WAG320N

Everything is OK apart I have a speed very very slow in the network; for example ISO 2k8r2 server transfer I take 30 minutes

After many trials, I decided to start from scratch, I just powered on my ESXi2 machine and reinstalled ESXi 4.1U1 from scratch and I installed the Client vSphere for my Client PC which have a Gigabit Ethernet card and is also attached to the switch Gigabit however, speed is still the same, 2/3 MB / s.

The strange thing is that also the same speed very slow, I created a Server 2008 VM and installed iperf to landmark of network and I get about 600 / 700 Mbps, so I really don't know what I can do.

I replaced the ethernet cables, also tried to connect the cables directly to the modem and also I tried with another switch, but the result is always the same.

He is now a cable or switch problem because I tried to create an iSCSI drive and transferred a file of 10 GB of my Client PC to the iSCSI disk and I get about 120 MB/sec so is full Gigabit network speed.

Also, I installed FileZilla FTP Server on the ISCSI server and tried to download and upload a file of 10 GB and the speed is never 115 / 120 MB/s.

Really, I don't know what I do that, I'm really desperate.

Thank you very much for your help.

Routers are NOT created equal.  There is a business reason switches cost $10,000 - $20,0000 dollars.

Netgear router / switch is just a very BASIC.  It's not classy company.  That's your problem.  Get a better switch that you don't need to spend $10,000 but probably a few hundred... a GOOD show for home switch...
