vSAN strangeness... Policy?

A few quirks of VSANs, everything was fine with the BETA version, and everything was fine for a few weeks, on another test laboratory.

So rebuilt, servers and configuration vSAN new... and all the missing couple in shape, the disk group was missing in one of the servers of the GUI and only started 2 eligible, so thought this was wrong and removed all groups, removed all the vSAN and deleted all hosts in the Cluster...

has it again, a little better, all disc correct groups on hosts

3 x breakfast

1 x SSD (real not fake) 1 x (magnetic) HARD drive according to the minimum values

(have a lot more up to 64 hosts, I know that max is 32), and more SSDS and HDDs to play with, but I wanted to test the scaling... on the fly...

vSan2.jpg

vSan1.jpg

But whatever I have deploy a virtual machine, you get an error...

vSan3.jpg

and I'm puzzled!

Well, this might be the question of esxdev001, using the list of VSANs esxcli storage

Used by this host: true

In CMMDS: false

for magnetic HARD drive and SSD.

I guess just remove the disk group and recreate it?

Well, fixed...

This has been a strange day, because I had three different groups with 5.5 U1, do the same thing...

it: -.

I also noticed that esxdev001, was in a weird State, she would not accept the vMotion migration, has complained that "host could do this not in this State", although it could feed on the virtual machines...

It would also not go into maintenance mode and leave VMs...

So a quick access, reboot / restart and controlled again

Used by this host: true
In CMMDS: true

I think it's going to be a while, until I get a feeling of warmth on vSAN, before Production!

Thank you guys

Duncan & CHogan!

PS I should have done, what I'm saying to the users, "just turn on and off" is it fixed!

  • Virtual machines deployed on VSAN without selected with THICK disk storage policy

    Hello

We had an admin build 50 VMs on our data VSAN store but did not choose the VSAN storage policy while he got the default which allows you to have the THICKNESS of the disks provisioned

I have chnaged any of the virtual machines to use the VSAN storage policy (which uses a thin) but the virtual machine is still using all the space

Is there a way to make virtual machines recover white space, now they have a VSAN storage strategy?

Yes - I have to agree with Duncan. I don't think that there is a way to return/reduce the size.

An idea is, if you have additional storage, Storage vMotion VM to NFS or VMFS, converting to thin and then back to VSANS with a policy that doesn't have a "thickness".

Try it with a VM - see if it works.

A bit of a drag, I know, but I can't think of any other casual way.

  • Battle of VSAN (2 node with node witness Cluster) cannot write to VSAN

I'm having problems with my Cluster active VSAN and can't seem to write in the data store or migrate a virtual machine to download whatever it is him. When I try a vMotion VM over the VSAN DS I get an error "file impossible creation a full operation, an unknown error occurred."

    Here is my layout,

Two Clusters with the node of witness, one with 2 nodes

Each host has 2 discs with a Cache and running as FLASH capacity and disk HARD hybrid Type. Field of the fault, I have a witness preferred and secondary each host is divided.

Here are the best, I got a work around, if I change the host of fd perfered and when updating the domain fault I can during this brief moment write to the data store. That's how I'm migration of VMs for the moment.

    Any suggestions?

    Thank you

VSAN Checkup shows that everything works well? My guess is that your 2 hosts have problems with communication with the node of witness or vice versa.

Try to modify the VSAN storage policy to enable ForceProvisioning as a test, if it works, the problem is probably problem of config/route network communicates with the witness.

  • Some VMDK of getting scratched twice when the policy States 1 stripe. Disc format 6.0 VSAN 2.

So I noticed this strange problem on my virtual SAN. 99% of my VMDK are properly implemented with 1 witness and a raid 1 array with 1 disk of two hosts. Like in this picture.

    VSAN1.JPG

Now, here is an another VM, with the same storage policy, creating a raid 0 of mirrors and to use more space than I care to provide to the virtual machine.

    VSAN2.JPG

I tried to reapply policies and nothing changes. It's not a huge deal, but I'm just curious to know what would cause this. Oh yes and the kicker is still its in line with the policy says VSAN.

    VSAN3.JPG

It's perfectly normal in a number of situations and is not a bug. For example, let's do all this time, a VMDK is larger than 255 GB. We are also when there is not enough disk space. See the series of Cormac Virtual SAN (VSAN) - CormacHogan.com blog and specifically part 23: http://cormachogan.com/2014/04/23/vsan-part-23-why-is-my-storage-object-striped/

I also want to clarify that, contrary to what you said that a RAID-0 doesn't consume additional disk space. It is simply a way to split a mirror into smaller pieces. In short, the size changes however.

Regarding compliance, if you find the definition, StripeWidth is a _minimum_ of batteries by mirror number to use. VSAN is free to use several axes. Note also in previous cases where we use RAID-0, we can place two strips on the same disc, as long that satisfy the minimum of StripeWidth pins of the requested user.

  • vSAN 6.0 - Virtual by default on SAN storage policy does apply a VM show not

My VM on my datastore vSAN all show "not applicable".

The weird part is that caching SSDS still works. How will I know? Because my performance SQLIO tests indicate hundreds MB/s and my braces are only a single SAS6 Drives. No spindle drive a possible way to do this.

Now the default virtual SAN storage strategy shows also non-compliant, but I can't seem to find the cause.

    Where should I look?

    I'm confused... lol

Begin by restarting the profile flown by the demon of storage in vcenter.

When using the appliance, connect with ssh and run "/etc/init.d/vmware-sps restart".

  • strange behavior policy

It's strange: open an own page using the default settings (page height does not exceed 500 px). Use the text tool and select a custom font of Muse (from adding web fonts);  Type a few words. Now see Crome "Preview in browser" the Chances are that you will see what you typed. Now raise heght page (in page properties) for 2000 px or more. Discovered in Chrome "Preview in browser". Do you still see the text. I do not have: checked this out on 2 computers WIN 7 and 8. • Strange behavior after giving a role to access policy.

    Greetings.
I use OIM 11.1.1.3 and I also use the DBUM 9.1.0.4 adapter.
I defined 3 roles in IOM once I've defined three strategies of access to available roles to a database.
Each policy is associated with a role and a DBUM resource.
In the end, I have the following policies.
Role of role based policy name IOM
    1. policy role - A role - A DBRoleA
    2. policy role - role B - B DBRoleB
    3. policy role - role C - B DBRoleC.

When a role is granted to the user of the IOM by using the Administration Console is implemented as a correct database to the specified database. But if I revoke a role from the user and grant the same role yet the specified role are not configured on the specified database.
Example: A user 'Role A', 'Rôle B', 'C Role' in the database of the user have DBRoleA, DBRoleB, DBRoleC.
After revocation "A Role" of the user, the database have the roles of good DBRoleB and DBRoleC.
But if "A" is again granted the user the DBRoleA is not provisioned in the database.

I activated the dbum log file and it looks like a bad role has been chosen and the DBRoleB the role of database to be configured. Because we see in the log file when the user is granted the "A role":

    [WLS_OIM1] [TRACE] [[OIMCP.] DBUM] [tid: [ASSETS].] [[ExecuteThread: '2' for the queue: "(self-adjusting) weblogic.kernel.Default"] [username: oiminternal] [ecid: 0000JDjSF5i9h ^ 5prOt1iY1EgfQX0000lD, 0] [SRC_CLASS: com.thortech.util.logging.Logger] [APP: IOM #11.1.1.3.0] [decided: 4506c477d760fc7e:26c2d53a:1336a1dbc64: - 7ffd - 0000000000000 d 45] [SRC_METHOD: Debug] oracle.iam.connectors.dbum.integration.DBUMProvisionManager: getChildFormData: form Value2011-11-04[2011-11-04T11:37:14.392-05:00] [WLS_OIM1] [PATH] [[OIMCP]. The issue is that anyone has experienced the same problem?
Is there another way of provisioning of database roles after granting roles of the IOM?

    Thank you!

    Re: Roles and access policies

I created an access policy (with renovation = revoke, if not applicable = true) that is, if the user is a member of the role XYZ, it should be provided for an application automatically (RBAC). Sometimes it works fine, but sometimes even if the user is a member of the role of XYZ, the user is not configured

  • Disk groups are not visible cluster. vSAN datastore exists. 2 guests (on 8) cluster do not see the vSAN data store. Their storage is not recognized.

    http://i.imgur.com/pqAXtFl.PNG

    http://i.imgur.com/BnztaDD.PNG

Do not know how even tear it down and rebuild it if the disk groups are not visible. The discs are in good health on each host storage adapters.

Currently the latest version of vCenter 5.5. Hosts running 5.5 build 2068190

Just built. Happy to demolish and rebuild. Just do not know why it is not visible on the two hosts and the disk groups are only recognized 3 guests when more are contributing. Also strange that I can't get the disk groups to fill in vCenter. I tried two different browsers (chrome and IE).

    I have now works.

All the identical 5.5 relies on ESXi hosts. All hosts are homogeneous CPU/sum of the prospects for disk controller / installed RAM/storage.

I have work. I had to manually destroy all traces of the vSAN on each single to help host node:

    (1) put the hosts in maintenance mode and remove the cluster. I was unable to disable vSAN in the cluster, I made on each node host (manually via the CLI below) then disconnected web client vCenter and return to finally refresh the ability to disable on the cluster.

esxcli vsan cluster get - to check the status of each host.

esxcli vsan cluster drop - the vSAN cluster host.

storage of vsan esxcli list - view records in the individual host group

esxcli vsan storage remove-d naa.id_of_magnetic_disks_here - to remove each of the disks in the disk group (you can ignore this using the following command to remove the SSD only falling each disc in this host group).

esxcli vsan storage remove s naa.id_of_solid_state_disks_here - this is the SSD and all the magnetic disks in a given disk group.

After that, I was able to manually add hosts to the cluster, leave maintenance mode and configure the disk groups. Aggregated data of the vSAN data store is correct now, and everything is functional.

Another question for those of you who still read... How to configure such as the VM storage strategy that migrates towards (or inspired) the vSAN data store will immediately resume the default storage policy, I built for VSANs?

Thanks for anyone who has followed.

  • Default MARVIN and Thin Provisioning storage policy

    Hello

When you use the default storage of MARVIN to vSAN on our new Evo strategy, it seems that all VMs are thick provisioned, not thin.

My question is, why has it chosen default thick provisioning provisioning method for the storage of MARVIN policy? My understanding of vSAN vanilla is that a provisioning is the default value. I plan to create a new storage for provisioning strategy, but first of all, I would like to understand if thick is preferred on the Evo and, if so, why?

    Thanks in advance.

It's quite strange - because by default in Evo must be a provisioning is not thick...

The Evo has to ship to the QEP with the same default values as VSAN. As the team of VSANS, we would recommend thin provisioning...

Can you confirm that the policy is set to thick. Maybe a screenshot of the policy upgrade...?

This could be a factory error, or maybe a change not verified by a rogue administrator?

Can I ask who is the partner of QEP. It may be useful if you send (using posts here) what is Device Evo... (you'll find this under 'health' in the user interface of Evo, next to the health of system - ID is probably something like MAR12345604...

    Kind regards

  • Default VSAN (TTF = 1) storage strategy: large disks get stripped?

What I discovered while ivestigating a resynchronization VSAN problems, is that two virtual machines have vdisks that are divided into multiple objects.

It's strange because the default storage policy only sets FTT = 1.

It is strange that there are RAID1, RAID0, RAID1 with the default policy objects, as seen in the attached screenshot.

I guess that is somehow linked to the size of the vdisks. I also checked that wihth another installation of VSANS, it sound the same.

Can someone tell me what size VSAN decides to scratch vdisk objects?
