W2K3 r2 sysprep location on W2K8 Vcenter

I am running vcenter4 on Windows 2008 64 bit. I need to add the sysprep file to this Vcenter for w2k3r2 but I don't know where to put the file in deploy.cab in 2008. I know it passes under C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\VMware\VMware VirtualCenter\sysprep on a machine of 2003 but I would like to know where to put it in an environment of 2008.

Thank you

The location must be the same on Windows Server 2008.  It should be C:\Users\All Users\VMware\VMware virtual Center\sysprep.  The issue may be that the all users folder is not visible in the folder C:\Users on Windows 2008.  If you click Start, click Run, and type 'C:\Users\All users' in the line run, it should bring you to the location, and you can navigate to the location from there.

  • Configuration for VM cloning sysprep when you use vCenter device

    Hello

According to the manual - and the ViewPlanner UI, for the layout section, we need to specify the location of the generated sysprep configuration.

How is this work if we use the vCenter 'Linux' system device.  I copied the binaries of Microsoft sysprep for the/etc/vmware-vpx/sysprep/xp to the appropriate location in the path of the device.  But, these are the Windows binaries and I can't run myself on the Linux-based system to build the configuration.

How can we on the subject in this case?  The layout makes UI * no * allow us to move forward if the sysprep is not specified.  Perhaps, there might be an option to move forward and make the command sysprep "manually" once clones are created?

    Thank you

    Vinod

I don't think that you must copy sysprep for the device files, it should already be there.

You must create a user of VC interface customization specification, not in the camera. In the user guide to see Planner, there are steps on how to do it. I also found another reference:

    http://pubs.VMware.com/vSphere-4-ESX-vCenter/index.jsp#deploy_vms_from_templates_and_clones/t_create_a_customization_specification_for_windows.html

  • Location of the vCenter vCEnter Server Appliance 6.0.0 vs Linux plugin file

We have a plugin where we were using vCenter 6.0 hosted on a Linux server.  I could get my plugin files in /var/lib/vmware/vsphere-client/vc-packages/vsphere-client-serenity and /import/storage.

We then deployed a vCenter Server Appliance 6.0.0 our plugin and it has a different directory structure.  The structure of directory changes to /var/lib/vmware.

Where can I find the folder of vsphere-client-serenity or its equivalent.

Or plugins to treat device unlike a vCenter 6.0 linux host?

    Thank you.

    I found it in/etc/vmware/vsphere-client/vc-packages/vsphere-client-serenity

  • Sysprep has changed with vCenter 4.0?

I was wondering if you still download and copy all the files, sysprep in the appropriate folders, as we did with Virtual Center?

    Hello.

Yes, its still the same.  The process is detailed in an annex to the vSphere Basic System Administration guide.

    Good luck!

  • Sysprep vs. new Sid

Can someone explain to me when I use sysprep and when I have to use new sid. It's always a bit foggy for me. I'm not sure that really understand what is the difference?

I have been using new sid especially when I clone a virtual machine already built and I'm assuming that sysprep runs automatically when I clone my 2003 or models XP.  Is this correct? They say that 2008 has already sysprep in the operating system. Then it means that I have still to run sysprep after that I have clone a virtual machine or a template?

If I'm cloning a vm already built so I should launch new sid with the new correct name?

When I clone template will work automatically correct sysprep?

    Hi Shanrid,

Only, NewSID generates a new SID of the Windows machine. But it keeps a lot of information from its history. Sysprep does much more, especially on the logs events, registry cleaning... and generates a completely new machine. You should always use Sysprep when the cloning of a server.

Sysprep do not automatically run when cloning a virtual machine. It's not magic: you ask for this operation. When cloning a virtual machine, select the Customize option. It will then generate an answer file, it injects into the destination VM and activate a sysprep on the first startup operation.

Depending on the version of Windows within the virtual machine, he must also copy the source of Sysprep files. She is already in 2008, but you need to install these files inside of vCenter for older versions. Take a look at the article id 1005593 for locations of Sysprep files inside of vCenter.

  • vRops does not show al my vCenter objects

    Hello

I was struggling with my new installation vRops. I imported the data of my installation of vCops, but I only see two of my 50 guests (both hosts that are not part of any cluster) en only 175 of 479 virtual machines.

When I check the Administration - view set of environment I see all objects are there. When I perform a discovery is opposed however, not all objects are found.

My vCenter connections test all the beautiful and the credentials are configured with an account with administrator access to vCenter. What could be wrong?

Also, when I start my web vSphere client and you select an object, I get a notification "could not load the view configuration data. I have no 'Health' tab in the web client. In the c# client, I see a vRops plugin 6.0.0.

I have not vCenter with the old vCops and vCenter registered with vRops.

With the help of our account at VMware Manager, we opened a Service request for that matter. We have replaced the file vmwarevi_adapter3.jar in accordance with this article: https://my.vmware.com/web/vmware/details?downloadGroup=VROPS-600&productId=468&rPId=7122. This solves our problem.

If you have a Windows installation, the file is located here: \vmware\vcenter-operations\vmware-vcops\user\plugins\inbound

  • vCenter Server Service does not start after P2V

    Hello community.

A problem that I have not been able to solve and looking for help.

    Problem:

vCenter Server Service does not start after that Windows Server was P2V would be.  We get an ERROR 2 of the Service.  Get the error of the system Windows 7024 event log.

    History:

The client, I currently work with that tries to smash to the high location of the DEV VCENTER.  Location of DEV vcenter works now all for this site (domains, dns and all development servers).  If its VCENTER PRODUCTION of this location.  Currently, SQL Server (dedicated to vCenter), VCENTER and SSO are all sitting on the same box.  Let's break the SSO, SQL and VCENTER in their own servers.  However, the client wants to re - use the current physical server for SQL Server.  So I need P2V physical server existing until I can start the new environment.

I was able to get all of the services working on the virtual vCenter (SQL, SSO, Update Manager etc etc) but have been unable to get the real vCenter Server Service works.  Fails every time with the 2 ERROR Code.  I was unable to get a KB of VMWARE item that corresponds to the issue I'm having.  ERROR 2 code has many articles and none have worked.

    Details:

    vCenter 5.1 Build 799731

    SQL 2008 R2

    Windows 2008 R2

When the vCenter Service tries to start it will stop at the 50% mark and gives this error: (I removed the names for security reasons)

Windows could not start the VMware VirtualCenter server on <server name>. For more information, see the system event log.  If it is a non-Microsoft service, contact the service vendor and refer to service 2-specific error code

When I saw the Windows system event log I get this error:

    EVENT ID: 7024

The VMware VirtualCenter Server service stopped with the error special service that the system cannot find the specified file...

When I go through the vpxd log file I see this at the end of the newspaper: (I removed the names for security reasons)

I pulled the virtual machine in a laboratory and all network problems that would be removed to isolate.  Now the VCENTER is shouting at this topic it can't find one of its guests in the vdxp log, but that shouldn't matter.  All Services have been changed for local accounts.  All network and ODBC parameters are able to see the server... aka the server can see.  I didn't remove any software or drivers for the VM (techniques it is my third P2V to the same server for testing reasons)... And the only thing that won't start is always VCENTER SERVER... SSO is started, SQL is launched...

Also everything remained the same on the virtual machine (DNS, IP, NAME etc etc). Stop the physical and start-up it upward don't show any problems.  Only when its summer P2V would have done that themselves.

I can't get this number.  Need help.

    Thoughts?

    Thank you

In this case, we have finished rebuilding the vCenter and all migrate on.  Wish had better put up-to-date, but ultimately, it's what has been done.

  • Hosts in vCenter then unplug it after about 2 minutes

I have an environment vCenter 4.1 with 6 all current hosts to run ESXi 4.1 and everything is good.  I bought additional licenses (6 existing are Enterprise Plus and I bought 2 Enterprise license) and I try to add 2 additional guests.  One of the new servers is an existing server running ESXi 4.0 and other new server is a new server and I installed U1 4.1 on it.  Both servers are HP DL360s, existing is a G6 and the new is a G7.

I first tried to add the new server.  I connects well, installs the agent and looks good for about 2 minutes and headed towards does not.  I can click on Connect and it connects upward for another 2 minutes and then goes back to does not.

I looked at the newspapers but saw nothing obvious but which does not say much - I'm not well versed in looking at the newspapers and I can't be looking good.  To decide on what to look for would be appreciated.  Then I upgrade vCenter 4.1 U1 and get the same results.  Next thing I tried was to add the existing (running ESXi 4.0) server, and it includes the same way.

These 2 servers, I am trying to add are in another network than my other servers ESXi 6 but in the same physical location.  The vCenter box is in the same network as my 6 hosts operation.  I had my network guy open everythng between 2 servers ESXi, what I'm trying to add the vCenter box and still the same result, even if I still suspect a network problem.  I know connectivity is there because I can add the host and two ways to ping.

Here is a run down of what's different on 2 new guests who I am trying to add: in the network segment are different as vCenter, integrated ESXi (6 others have local hard drives,) and the licenses are at different levels (although I can't imagine has nothing to do with it).

Any ideas or help would be most appreciated.

    Of the Installation Guide:

902 the default port used by the vCenter Server system to send data to managed hosts. Managed hosts
also send a regular heartbeat on port UDP 902 the vCenter Server system. This port should not be
blocked by the firewall between the server and the hosts or guests.

If this port is not open on UDP, you see the exact thing you encounter. Who give a shot.

  • Migrate a virtual machine Fisical VCenter

    Buenas,

    Hello.

I need to migrate a Vcenter 4.1 running in a virtual machine (with the default installation) to a physical machine.

I know the process is like this:

    • Stop the Vmware services
    • Open SQL management studio and make a backup a Vmware DB.

    My doubts are:

Should I install separately located in the Vcenter ISO Sql create a DSN pointing to this SQL instance, create DB, restore it from the backup and installing vcenter, choose this DSN and "keep existing DB" or similar.

    or

What can I install Vcenter in default mode (then then finish etc. ), automatically install SQL Server, DB, and the DSN; and restore this DB form the backup (in other words, crushing the fresh new DB created automatically)

In the first option, I'm afraid because according to this file official http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vsphere4/r40/vsp_compatibility_matrix.pdf , vmware provides that if you use SQl express (as the default installation), you will have a 5host and 50 VM limit, but I am runnig 6 guests right now without any problem! Any comment on this?

Another problem is to create the DSN. In data sources, I see that sql server and client installed nativle, but I get a timeout of the connection when I try to set up the system DSN. I have the firewall turned off, etc., but it's like there is a missing configuration... Do I have to install the native client anyway?

On the second option, I do not know if restoring the backup would be an adequate procedure...

    PS: care of the machine: Win 2008 R1 x 64, Vcenter 4.1.

    Thx a lot.

    Yes it is possible.

  • vCenter update manager install - vcenter server isn't compatible?

I try to install vcenter update manager.  I tried the two 4.0 update 1 and 4.0 Update 2.  Both give me an error in the first step of the installation when I specify our vcenter server, port, username, etc.  He states:

"vcenter server is incompatible with the vmware vcenter update manager that you are installing.

We run vcenter 4.1.0 (build 258902).  I can't find any information on this error.  Was hoping to find an answer here before opening a SR with vmware.

If you use vCenter 4.1, you must install VUM 4.1, which can be located on the vCenter installation CD in the folder updateManager.  VCenter is a 64-bit application, VUM is not and still requires a 32-bit DSN.

  • Download the VMware converter integrated software (plug-in to vCenter)?

Can someone help me with this? We have not bought the upgrade license vSphere 4.

Where can I download Vmware converter software integrated (plug-in to vCenter)? Is it comes with Vsphere 4 bundle? I couldn't find this as a bundle of Vsphere 4.0 evaluation.

    Thank you

the installation of plugin files will be located on the vCenter Server .iso file.  Inside the .iso file, there will be a file converter.    However, if you are not running vCenter 4 you maybe better off using the stand-alone version.

In this possible case is just to connect to vcenter using root@localos credintials.

  • Filter DefaultVIServerMode Multiple

When using DefaultVIServerMode in Multiple mode, is it possible to filter on which host to connect without return to the only or log out of one of the hosts?

For example, if you connect to a vCenter and connect directly to a host that is located in the vCenter, and running the Get-VMHost cmdlet it returns twice.

You can use the Server parameter to do this on the Get-VMHost cmdlet.
