  First, try a Hard Reset as follows.

  Shut down the laptop, unplug the AC adapter and then remove the battery.  Press and hold the Power button for 30 seconds.  Reinsert the battery, connect the power adapter and start Notepad.

  If the problem persists, try the following.

  Download IDT Audio Installer on the link below and save it in your downloads folder.

  One time finished, open windows control panel, open Device Manager and open sound, video and game controllers.  Right click on the IDT device and select uninstall - also, you should get a command prompt to delete the current driver, check the box to enable this and then proceed to uninstall.

  When finished, restart the computer and let Windows load completely.  Open your download folder, right-click on the IDT Installer and select "Run as Administrator" to launch the installation.  Once this done, do a right-click the speaker icon in the taskbar and select playback devices.  Left click 'Speakers and headphones' once, highlight it, and then click the Set Default button - has this made a difference?

• No windows sound test - test of speaker sounds good

  Happens not all the test sound button sounds. The speaker test button sounds great. Audio plays well.  . WAV sounds ok if played via media player. Go to windows audio services and goes from automatic to manual start however was gray so could not try it as suggested that reported this problem in 2010. Also tried rebooting as someone else suggested however not go.

  With the help of Lenovo Ideapad Z500 Touch. About 2 weeks ago my sound stopped most of the time.  Occasionally, it will work for a minute when I reboot or restart.

  Realtek High definition is marked as default speaker.  (the speakers are NOT silent)  Troubleshooting the audio results in "no problems found".   Sometimes when I'm in my audio information, I get a message that the application is used by another device (or something like that), but have checked everywhere in my computer and cannot find anything a likely culprit.  Does not work with or without headphones plugged.  I'm not super technical, I hope someone can help!

  Note: If the driver is not compatible with Windows 8 I suggest you to install the driver in compatibility mode.

  I restored from an iPhone 5 to the top, both phones are on the latest version of iOS.

  Once the synchronization is complete, I ejected the phone correctly. But there is no sound coming from the speaker:

  • Key "secret" in both positions, no sound from the speaker
