Wake up the lan problem

Wake on lan suddenly stopped working last week.  No idea why?  It has worked flawlessly before.  I made no intentional change to the PC, but the Windows updates have been loaded.  Hardware and BIOS are always value of wake on lan.  I am running XP.  Anything in the updates of June 2011, which would have penetrated WOL?  More importantly, how can I solve this?  Thank you.

If you use a classical WoL - which means that you use it for * voltage * the machine - then the OS has nothing to do with it.

If you use it to wake up the machine to hibernation - BIOS is always the main target.  However - it's not just the setting of Wake On LAN, you need to worry about, but also the power management...

1. on the computer target in Device Manager or in the network settings, select the network card.
2. click on: properties
3. click on the button Configure the network card.
4. Select the tab: power management
5. place a check mark to: allow this device to wake the computer
6. click on: OK
7 continue to close all property pages.

If so, how can I go about fixing the issue?

Thanks for any help you can offer on this (for me, anyway) head-scratcher.

Have you tried a hard facing to bypass the cache to refresh all files?

    • Hold down the SHIFT key and click the Reload button
    • Press 'Ctrl + F5' or 'Ctrl + Shift + R' (Windows, Linux)

    Help me please.

    Hello

What to say I put t think that this could be linked to the BIOS. First of all, as you said that the LAN card is recognized correctly in the device if Manager she s works well!

However, you could try to access the BIOS and could set the BIOS default settings. Don t forget to save changes to BIOS ;)

In addition, it would be advisable to reinstall the NIC driver. The Toshiba driver page provides the Realtek LAN driver v5.618.1015.2004.

Windows Home Server 2011 on LAN

I had a hard drive failure partial who gave no symptoms or errors except a VERY slow start-up and operation.  I tried to do a restore of the entire system of my Home Server 2011 backups to see if, perhaps, just the image was corrupt.  USB was created and all drivers copied from pilots for the full system restore folder.  Has started the full restoration of the system and loaded the missing NETWORK adapter driver by using the scanner for drivers.  Driver support was successful but no lights NIC and the message "cannot find server".  NETWORK card was working fine before, even with the bad hard drive and also after the abandonment of the restoration.  Installed the new drive hard C:-System and that was the main problem, BUT..., the later to restore attempt was always the NIC starts not problem.  Tried the driver directly at Gigabyte support and drivers drivers for the full restoration of the system of records from several different backups.  No love.  Just NIC does not start after the specified load successful pilot.

    All good advice?

  • Network - LAN stucks on the identification problem

I have a problem connecting to a LAN for Windows 7. He repeats to me that the LAN is identification. I have two operating systems of this computer. XP operating system works very well, so I guess that the network adapter is ok. Before Windows 7, used to work I deleted my users and created new users. The IP address is 169.*. *. * and the default gateway is blank. I have another computer hooks up to this router and it works fine. I tried to solve the last two days without success. Help, please.

OK, if you're connected via cable (no WIFI), then you can try to run Windows 7 in "safe mode with network":

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/advanced-startup-options-including-safe-mode

    part:

    Safe mode with networking

and test if it works or not.

Can write you here if your network card is integrated in the motherboard or it is autonomous in the PCI bus card.

Can you write here the manufacturer and model name of your NIC (stand-alone) or the manufacturer and the model name of your motherboard (integrated in the motherboard)?

Some information about your network card, you can find in the 'Device Manager':

  • Satellite Pro L770 - 12 p - Wake-up on LAN is not possible?

    Hello

I try to send a wake up message to LAN (WOL) on my laptop to propel to the top.
I failed to make it work.

But I do not see a strange thing happening: when I send a magic packet WOL while my laptop is running, the laptop restarts automatically after closing down.

It seems that the Magic Packet is stored somewhere (perhaps in the NIC?) and is activated once the cell phone is off. I think a magic packet must be ignored when a machine has already begun and not be recorded and executed after the PC is turned off again.

That being said, I did a test with another PC; I am able to send a magic packet via my business network. So the problem isn't somewhere else. But the BIOS of my Toshiba laptop does not pick up when the machine is off. Only when it is already running.

Is this a bug and this bug can be resolved?

    Kind regards

    Alfons

PS I have the latest version of the BIOS (v2.30) and I activated the Wake Up on LAN in the BIOS.

    Hello

According to the Toshiba driver page, the last BIOS update was 09/03/12 and I doubt that this new version of BIOS which will be released in the future. The Satellite Pro L770 series is already discontinued.

However, as far as I know the reactivation of the LAN option can be found in the properties of the LAN card.
Go to Device Manager-> LAN card-> properties-> Advanced tab
Here, you should check if the WOL is enabled.

By the way: the network driver seems to be Realtek. I recommend you update the driver of network directly from the page of the Realtek driver. I know that WOL is controlled at the level of the BIOS, but I think the update is worth a try.

  • Wake-up on LAN - HP Zbook17

    Hello

This is my first post here and much apprecicated your help

Then I installed a utility to wake up and it doesn't work,

I opened the port 7 & 9 in the two firewall Zbook 17 and my network firewall.

Could you help her? I need it because I don't want to keep the computer all the time

    Thanks in advance

    Hi Al Houssam,.

Please contact Microsoft Community. I appreciate your efforts to solve this problem, I'll probably help you solve this problem.

The function "Wake on LAN" (WOL) wake up a computer from a low power state when a network card detects a WOL event. Network cards are explicitly not equipped to WOL in S5 or S4 case because users expect zero power consumption and battery drain in the shutdown state. This eliminates the possibility of wake-ups invalid when explicit stop is requested. Therefore, WOL is supported only from standby (S3) or States of hibernation (S4) in Windows 8 and 8.1.

I suggest you to refer to the procedure described in the article and check if it helps.

"Wake on LAN" (WOL) behavior in Windows 8 and Windows 8.1

Note: we do not recommend to disable the stop (S4) hybrid State.

Hope this information helps. Reply to the post with an up-to-date report of the issue so that we can help you further.

  • Satellite 1800-100: a kind of metal in the LAN port

I have an old S1800-100 (about 4-5 years), there is a kind of metal in the front where I (would) attach my ethernet cable. It is a problem since I finally had time to DSL. I'm sure this is a silly question, but it does not mean that I do not have a card? What should I do? Buy a card and install or buy a new computer?

    Hello

Network port on this unit is not available. You can use the LAN PCMCIA card. I'm sure that this card is not expensive. Check it out at your local retailer.

    Good bye

  • Satellite L850 - unidentified network, try to use the LAN card

I have the Satellite L850 and were using the wireless without any problem.

Now I find that I can't get the network to work just by using my Ethernet cable.
I tried to turn off the wifi and allowing the PCIe realtech family responsible of the treatment, which is the connection to the local network, but I get unidentified network.

Y at - it a sort of conflict between wifi even if it is disabled and the connection to the local network.
I'm pulling out my hair. The LAN worked very well until I decided to try the WIFI.

    Hello

The unidentified network problem may be related to different causes, and therefore different workaround solutions may be possible.
First of all I recommend you to uninstall the network adapter driver.
This can be done in the Device Manager. After the driver has been removed, restart the laptop and install the network driver that you can download on the page of the Toshiba driver.

2nd solution: reset the reset TCP/IP protocol
To do this, see the article Microsoft Knowledge base:
    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/299357

Check also if you tools of security (firewall, antivirus software, Mcafee) n does affect network connectivity.

  • Toshiba NB550-111 - no connection if the LAN cable is more than 2 metres

    Hello

My newly purchased Toshiba NB550-111(Windows 7 Starter Service Pack 1) has problems with the LAN card.
If the LAN cable is more than 2 meters, no relation to Allied Telesyn switch (no indicator led on the switch, 2 other desktop computers already connected). I tried not to connect in a different port (one used previously by one of desktop computers), no connection. I tried with 3 cables, still no results.

Cables (cat5E, so important) have been tested OK before with a cable Tester, and I use both of them without any problem with another 2 desktop computers at home. I set another cable (5 m long, newly purchased) and tested for connectivity. It works very well with the other two offices, no results with the netbook. I tried with adapter it works, I disabled ' energy efficient ethernet "NIC, still no connection properties page. It only connects if the cable is less than 2 meters. I tried to connect the netbook directly to the DSL router, still no connection with a longer cable.

The device is reported by windows as work very well, and the test Toshiba utility ends there is no problem. Windows I configured in the Control Panel, the Plan balanced for maximum performance in the power options, still no results.
    Any ideas, please?

Now maybe stupid question but what is with WLAN? You don t want to use WLAN?

The other parameters of WOL under the advanced settings TAB, all seem to be there.

Before going any further I was wondering if anyone has had this works?
If not someone from Toshiba can confirm the Bios & motherboard WOL support with built in the Lan card F10?

    Hello

On my laptop Toshiba the option allow this device to wake this computer is not accessible.
So I think that the map network-> properties-> Advanced tab options are responsible for this action.
On my camera, I can see awakening on the evolution of the link, ARP/Ping alarm and wake up using APM mode.
There you can activate all options.

In addition, you can check in the settings of ToshibaHW if the built-in LAN boot and network protocol is enabled.

properly installed all necessary drivers? If not already done you should do so immediately.

I guess you have an intel lan card, so it would be useful to install the latest software proset intel, which must be downloaded on the website of intel.

Have you the LAN card worked properly with the former system installed?

    Hello

Do you have a message on the limited connectivity from Windows?
What is card LAN recognized correctly in Device Manager?

You may need to check the configuration. You use DHCP or a static IP address? You should try it with static IP addresses.

In addition, go to the command line (cmd) and type ipconfig / renew. What happens exactly?
