Windows Update keeps wanting to install "Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 8 for Windows XP (KB2618444)", even if it appears in the list of updates to inistalled in the control panel.  The installation fails.  When I use "Fix it", it indicates that default Windows update data locations have changed, but I can't 'Fix It' to do the repair.  In what could be a related issue, Windows Data Execution Prevention (part of IE 8?) detects a malfunctioning or malicious add-on, whenever I try to access a video on ESPN3 and closes the Web page.  However, 'Fix It' can not detect any problems with the modules.  I don't know what else to try to fix any of these problems.

More specifically, what modules are always appear as incompatible after a Firefox updated? Firefox 10, extensions that are made properly shouldn't be a problem, with a few exceptions.

Extension that contains a binary code must be compiled for each new version of Firefox. These modules are usually installed by applications on security Norton, McAfee, ZoneAlarm, etc..

  • Vista Aero deleted after the latest security updates

Recently, I installed my laptop for Microsoft Vista security updates. After that I restarted my computer, I noticed that the part personalization windows theme and color of my OS Vista Ultimate Aero feature was more functional or even available in the control panel. I did a system restore, and I do not want to install the update, any significance they say they are until I have find out why this happened. As far as I'm concerned, that there is no need of meto even have Vista Ultimate if they'll remove this function. In the drop-down list for the windows theme, the only choices listed were standard, classic windows and contrast #1 and #2. And there was no woarning or whatever this is mentioned on the updates about what is happening. How can I keep my themes and other things in Vista Aero and still be able to make the allegedly necessary windows updates?

Each update. I've had that I had a problem how I solved it. I can't understand how to uninstall them.

I downloaded both of these updates and was asked to restart my computer in order to install them.  When I restart my computer it says: "Installation to update 1 of 2..." and then finally she said "Shutting down...". "But my computer never stops.  Fifteen to twenty minutes later, I get a blue screen that says something about the dumping of memory, then the computer reloads the login screen.  When I log in, I get the 643 error message that says that it was unable to install the updates.  As a side effect of this error whenever I try to shut down my computer, it tries to reinstall the update again and my computer never stops.  Even when I unplug the wall remains on him.  I tried to use system restore to go back to the point before I installed the update, but it loads just for a while and then said: "system restore has failed."  I read in another thread that you are not allowed to bring support for updates associated security update.  If this is the case then I need at least to help make my computer stop trying to install these updates when I shut down my computer so it stops correctly.  Thank you.

    RAH66Comanche,
With these security updates, it is better to get them installed.  You can run the following tools to ensure that there is no system problems:
    Disk error checking
    System File Checker

Then, run the System Update tool and try again to install updates.

If you just want to try to hide these updates, you can perform the following procedure:

Click Start Menu > click the button run
In the Open box, type %windir% & then click OK.
Note the %windir%\System32 folder is the folder where you installed Microsoft Windows.
    Find the folder C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution.
Right-click the C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution folder and then click Rename.
Type SoftwareDistributionOld & then press ENTER.

Then go to Windows Update and hide the 2 updates.

    Help, please!

I am running Vista Home Premium 32 bit on SP2.

I just had my McAfee security expires and since I was not able to install security updates.

I uninstalled McAfee and searched my system to make sure that it is completely gone, then I installed Microsoft Security Essentials.

I was able to update its definitions of once and since I was not able to do so once again - instead, I get the error message "Virus and Spyware definitions update failed" and the code of error 0x80072efe

I have since run a full scan of the system and the following were found on my system:

    -Trojan Dropper

    -Trojan notifier

    -Trojan Downloader

    -Virus: Win32/Alureon.H

It is said that they have been removed - I'm not sure if they have something to do with my problems of system...

Also my windows update still does not go to download security updates, and it still gives me the same error code.

Is there a way to fix this?

    Thank you very much

Also, the first update failed installed has been updated for Windows Vista (KB955430)
