Want to dv6: hard disk failure

My faulty hard drive in my dv6 16 gig RAM (8.1 64-bit Windows) of Envy is a Toshiba model MQ01ABD100, ATA, 5400, the capacity is 1 T.  I want to replace the drive with a 2 t 7200.  What will be the best replacement? Can I use a SATA drive and it will improve performance?  Thank you.

Hello

What is your dv6? DV6 machines already use the SATA. Older generation dv6 use SATA II but the use of the most recent generation dv6 SATA III. In theory, you can use any standard laptop HARD drive today but to ensure compatibility, please use same brand of the existing HARD drive.

Kind regards.

  • Pavilion dv6: hard disk gets stuck in a "loop", the private resources applications

I have a HP Pavilion dv6 (dv6-6145dx) with 4 GB of RAM and Windows 7 x 64 installed, 500 Gb HD (Hitachi , 40% brand free).  It worked very well for a time very, very long time.  Recently installed Office 365 month last for professional use, which I was concerned might be a resource hog, but usually works very well.  I also AVAST! Antivirus Pro is installed.

Last week, I started noticing a strange problem that I had not seen before.  Some applications have become desensitized.  I noticed the hard drive light was constantly.  So I tried to close some applications (including Outlook), thinking that I was running resources.  But the deadlock problem continues.

Listening to the hard drive, I could hear this "stuck in a loop.  Something like "click-[bunch of quick clicks] - click-click-[break].  Repeats every 2 seconds.  Continues to go on and on.  If I leave the computer alone for about 15 ~ 20 minutes, I discover it has recovered.  But once I run the intensive program of any disk, this repeats itself.  It doesn't matter if it's a 3rd team application or system (such as the launch of Event Viewer).

To try to limit this, I started in safe mode with network.  I thought that if it was driver related, it wouldn't happen.  I launch the event viewer and still, the loop of the hard drive goes.  All gloomy.

My antivirus is up to date. I ran a full scan of the system (F2) and no errors.  I ran the monitor resources and Process Explorer in the hope of identifying what that either method was this... couldn't see just guilty.  I also created a new user and logged in with this account... has always been able to experience this problem.  It is therefore not associated user account.

I'm at my wit's end.  I am grateful that I have another computer I can use, but this should not be the case.

Anyone who is familiar with this kind of hard disk behavior consumes resources?

"If you keep an open mind, life will give you more opportunities."

I ran another system test and eventually got more details:

    "Disk hard Test" failed

    "Fast hard disk 1" (303)

    "Complete hard drive 1" (305)

OK, so from what I've found, it's a serious error means that the hard drive has failed.

He is a computer 4 years.  I never had a hard disk failure in a laptop before, and I had many laptops up to nearly 8 years, without any hard drive problem.  The drive inside is manufactured by Hitachi... they don't exactly have the best reputation.  Anyway, all the research that I have met never goes into detail as to what might have caused the failure and if some readers have a reliability problem.  The answer is always "you need to replace your hard drive."

Anyway, I will not try to diagnose it further.  I send my laptop in for repair (still under warranty - exhausted soon, phew!).

  • HP Pavilion 400-434 Office: intelligent control of hard disk: failure

    Hello

It all started when the computer would go blank right after startup, the HP logo would come upward, then 'auto repair preparation", more... Just empty. After reading the forums online, I did all the possible troubleshooting steps and at the end I did the SMART test... the result was:

    Verification of the processor: past

Intelligent control of hard disk: failure

    Failure ID: RGD7MK-7HV7RC-9XJ16K-60BB03

After obtaining these results, when I turn on the computer, it gives me a blue screen saying: drive SMART 1 error (301) and told me to test once again, that I did and got the same result as above.

Here is some info from the computer:

    Model: HP Pavilion slimline 400-434

    Hi there @Brugalgirl

Welcome to the Forums of HP Support! It's a good place to find the help you need, other users, the HP experts and other members of the support staff. I understand that your computer does not start successfully, and you found a Smart Drive 301 error code. I'm happy to help you with this.

I checked the ID of the failure, you've posted and verifies that the error. Unfortunately, this means that your hard drive needs to be replaced.  In view of the fact that the system does not boot, it is likely that the hard drive is completely unreadable, but depending on what you have on this subject, it may be worth your while to check with a local computer service shop and see if they can help to recover data from your hard drive.

If your system is relatively new and may be covered by the warranty, or if you wish to fix with HP for the guarantee system, you can call in hotline to make these arrangements. In this case, please use the following http://www.hp.com/contacthp and create a folder for your question and contact HP. Otherwise you can look at a replacement hard drive yourself. If you have a set of recovery media, then you already have a factory image HP, which allows you to put in place a new hard drive with your original operating system. If is no longer, you have a set or did not have a set of recovery media, so you can see if there are not yet available for your model.

I have a model p6310f desktop that had a hard drive failure.  I bought an SSD and install.  I looked for a recovery disk; However, I have not found one.  I was told that the recovery disc is on the hard drive in a separate partition.  Is this really the case?  If so, how can I access the recovery if the hard drive is still not recognized?

Recovery media is available on your Support page. Scroll the list of the drivers/software to see the possibility of ordering.

Be aware that recovery discs do not always work on an SSD - if the capacity is much smaller than the original hard drive and SSD size wasn't an option initially offered on your model. You could make your own Windows 7 installation dvd in this case, as long as you have the intact lable on cases with license key. Let me know if you want to try this option.

  • E4N79EA #UUG: hard disk failure

Disk hard diagnosis fails with error GU077V-6R7899-MFGJXG-60SV03 code.  What is the restore/repair for this?

    Dear customer,

Whenever the hard drive test short DST fails indicating that the hard drive has failed and which needs to be replaced to solve the problem

This problem could be due to an Application or a driver conflict, virus issues, corruptions of files due to incompatible applications, incorrect judgments, update failures due to conflicts, mounted sudden power so portable, sudden falls etc...

HP will offer a replacement HDD if the laptop warranty is Active, otherwise you can buy a SATA hard drive in a nearby retail store

Please make sure that you get at least equal as long as the original one in order to use recovery disks. If you need you can buy a bigger, but not smaller hard drive capacity. For example, if you have a 500 GB hard drive you can improve it to 750 GB hard drive, but not 320 GB hard drive

Please try the troubleshooting below indicated once the steps:

Step 01. Remove the battery and unplug the power adapter AC.

Step 02. Press and hold the power button for more than 30 seconds

Step 03. Plug the AC power adapter / (leave the battery for now)

Step 04. Press the power button and check if the unit is operating normally

If the steps listed above is not enough, then you can try reinstalling the hard disk on your laptop

If the problem persists again please Contact HP if your HP laptop is under warranty, HP could replace the hard drive and provide recovery media to restore the operating system to factory after the replacement (if you have not yet created recovery disks/USB support)

Note: Back up all personal data on an external drive if possible. Otherwise, you can connect the faulty HDD through SATA USB adapter with another PC or a PC even after replacing the drive HARD and reinstall the operating system and try to copy / retrieve files. Thanks for you immediate response.  I think your solution is the way to go.  So if I get the HP recovery USB and the new HD is installed, I have to change the boot order in the BIOS to make it work and in what order, if so.  Or do I plug in and turn on the machine and let it do it's thing?  Thank you for your time, which is very much appreciated.

You must enable secure in the BIOS first start and then turn on legacy mode get new material, working on the laptop. You can also change the order of boot on USB to boot from USB but I think that by pressing F12 or F10 shows you boot options fast without change anything whatsoever in the BIOS.

    Hello

The message says that something is wrong with the HARD drive.
It might be possible that your HARD drive will die sooner or later so his need to backup data on another HARD drive, disk or flash memory.

Finally, I must say you n don't need to buy a new laptop just because your HARD drive starts to hurt work in such cases purchase a new HARD drive and replace it
HARD drive is not very expensive and the replacement of the HARD disk is very easy in your user manual

PS: what model of laptop you have exactly?

  • How to back up files after a HARD disk failure internal?

My Macbook Pro (version 2012, obtained again a few months ago) could not start after getting in the middle of the loading screen and after trying to repair disk utilities, he told me that it is not repairable, and I need to save as many files as possible and try to reinstall the drive/operating system. I wasn't expecting a problem of this size so little time, so I didn't have a backup of my files either facts as it was not visible all the problems with my computer before he decided to break up after it sleep for a while. I have my external hard drive to transfer files, but when I try to use the function "restore" in the disc utilities (erasing files on my external drive and move my Mac HD here) it tells me that it is not a map of GPT partition on my external hard drive. I don't have a mac for the recovery target mode. I guess I might have to install OSX Yosemite on the external drive but how do I do this and how can I move my files (if possible) that him?

I have to save it as I have a lot of paid apps installed in my mac.

    Thank you very much!

Sorry for the hearing that, I had the same problem when my SSD PCIE crashes and I know that his could be much more frustrating on the losses of personal data that the device already has simply malfunction, since your HARD disk drive starts rained and you do not another machine of Mac, try visiting the genius bar with your Mac and another external drive start your computer in target disk mode and use a thunderbolt cable connect to the genius bar test computer, if your internal drive seems to read, you know what to do then, if it is not or not yet readable and you still don't want to not give up your data, you might need to turn the player on recovering data from third-party company to disassemble your hard drive and do it for you , and the cost is usually higher than normally expected.

But you said that your attempt to return to your 'paid apps', I don't know which way you have those apps, but the property of an application generally belongs to your method of purchase (as your account), but not the machine. If you paid for apps for your Apple ID, you have them again in your Apple ID and able to re-download after that your Mac got repair, if you have Steam games, they will also with the account Steam, not a single Machine, so be sure the property type of the apps then all do next

    Hello

It is perhaps that your hard drive has failed and needs to be replaced.

As a new trial and to help eliminate a problem with the Sata controller, try the following.

Follow the procedure below to create a bootable Ubuntu CD and follow the steps in part 3 of 'Try' to see if the operating system is running.  The option 'Try' runs the operating system from the CD without having to install on your HARD drive.  If it works Ok (it will be slow running on a CD), this would tend to confirm that the problem is only with the HARD drive.
