  • Validation or Activation of Windows Vista (OEM) after the replacement of components & reinstalling

    Hi all

I just had on the phone speaking to the people of Microsoft online help. After some discussion and blaming 'SLUI 4' (according to instructions), I am still unable to validate (activate) my legal copy of Windows and the Lady on the phone told me to come on this forum to help! ~ (What joke Microsoft management!) ~ She said she was unable to help because my copy of Vista is an OEM version and she said I need to contact the manufacturer. I said, the manufacturer was no longer in business, so now what? She said to go on the forums. So here I am!

Also, I think the first why I cannot now turn on Vista it's because the PC has had a few different hard disks over the years and during the summer I had to replace the power supply that the original has stopped working. I had a similar problem with another PC a few years ago and it has been easily resolved on the phone speaking with MS online help, but now's done it a lot more difficult for me (using this forum) that I am dyslexic and find writing and reading indeed very laborious.

In any case, I have reviewed the above and tried a few things, but none have worked for me. Then, please, make my life livable explaining what can I do to activate my Vista in simple terms?

Is received the following message when you try to validate my copy of Vista after a clean re-installation:

"The product key you entered is already in use.

Reasons can be: a new power supply & different hard drives have been installed by myself.

    Please, please help!

Best regards & thanks a lot, a lot.

    November 10, 2015.

    Hi all

As indicated, I wiped the hard drive, re-partitioned and formatted just to make sure he was completely clean and there is no hidden bad guys or persistent files corrupted, etc..  I then reinstalled Windows Vista, did a few main, graphics drivers updates, etc and then tried to 'turn on' online.

The bad news is that it still not be accepted and once more displayed: "the product key you entered is already in use.  So, I was a little irritated but not totally surprised, because if there is one thing that I've noticed over the years that Windows operating system are very compatible with their annoying messages! ~ However, this is not the end, read on:

As you do on these occasions, I thought then of what could be done then that I have not already tried? ~ Well I have to say now that my reason to reinstall Vista is not because I have no desire burning back somehow, it is finally to Windows 10. But before I could do I need to install a "Windows 7 Upgrade" I bought in 2010 when my son was in college.

This got me wondering if the message could be related in some way, to upgrade?  Twenty minutes after that, my son came into the room and offers exactly the same thing!  Without hesitation, I installed Windows 7 Upgrade and tried to validate online and hey-presto it worked!

So, for anyone else having similar problems with a re-installation and who have also used a version upgrade of Windows later, is probably the answer ~ if all else fails.  Thus, 14 lb hammer remained in the garage!

I am glade to say that the problem of Vista activation/validation is now resolved, even better Windows 10 is installed.

A big thank you to all who tried to help with this annoyance.

    Best regards

  • mother of replacement for the eM350 NETBOOK

Hi, I'm new to this forum and I hope you'll forgive me if this question has been asked elsewhere.  I have a 2 years old emachine eM350, which worked perfectly until it was some fizzy drink split on it whist, it is on.  The motherboard has considerable damage and it is clear to see that some of the components, including the chip, are damaged.  I consider that the only viable solution is to replace the motherboard.  However, there is a problem to start the operating system with a different motherboard? If so, is there a simple solution? In the meantime, thanks.

I'm sorry to hear about the incident in question, and I'll do my best to answer the questions.

I would agree that the motherboard would need to be replaced and according to which other components of the system have been damaged, you may need to replace other parts as well.  Given the level of prices of the eM350, it is not cost-effective to replace these components.

An exact match on the motherboard should not require changes to the OS.

  • Can I replace x 201 palm rest with only trackpoint palm rest with a touchpad.

I made the mistake of getting a mobile X 201 with only a trackpoint. I would really prefer to use a touchpad instead.

I am confident in the replacement of components on my X 201. My question is if a new palmrest with a touchpad is compatible with my X 201 that originally came with a trackpoint.

For example, could I buy the touchpad slot on ebay to install on my device?

  • Track information.

    Hi all

Can anyone help please? I am more able to get iTunes (via my mobile phone based on Windows) to search and apply

track information when I insert the CD even if they are recognized by the label and official purchases. When I asked for information on the track

iTunes displays the attached error message and unresponsive. I can't find a solution online so if anyone can help I'd really

Recognizing that its hours to manually enter all the data track!

    Thank you in advance.

    Grahame.

The 'No error' error is associated with the Gracenote service that iTunes uses to search and retrieve metadata for the CD.

Try to walk through the following steps - before you leave you may need to enable hidden files and folders to be considered - in Windows 7 / Windows Explorer select organize > folder options and research, then on the view tab make sure that show readers, the hidden files and folders is selected.  Without this you will not see the AppData C:\Users\username\ folder

    1. Quit iTunes
    2. In Windows Explorer, open the folder in C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes
    3. Delete the following files:
      • CD Info.cidb
      • com.apple.iTunes.Gracenote.plist
    4. Restart iTunes
    5. Insert a CD and see if details are now correctly retrieved from Gracenote

    If this does not work:

    1. In iTunes, select Edit > Preferences and a note (or take a screenshot) of your settings preferences in all tabs
    2. Quit iTunes
    3. In Windows Explorer, open the folder in C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes
    4. Delete the following file:
      • iTunesPrefs.xml
    5. Restart iTunes
    6. Insert a CD and see if details are now correctly retrieved from Gracenote

If this second procedure does not work, you will need to restore the other settings to preferences iTunes to those that you noted in step 1.  If it did not work:

    1. Quit iTunes
    2. Check the following folders:
      • C:\Users\ username \AppData\Local\Apple Computer\iTunes
      • C:\Users\ username \AppData\LocalLow\Apple Computer\iTunes
    3. Remove all copies of the following files:
      • CD Info.cidb
      • com.apple.iTunes.Gracenote.plist
      • iTunesPrefs.xml
    4. Restart iTunes
    5. Insert a CD and see if details are now correctly retrieved from Gracenote

Also, if this procedure does not work, you will need restore the other settings to preferences iTunes to those that you noted in step 1 of the second procedure. If you are still not able to retrieve CD Info:

    1. Quit iTunes
    2. In Windows, select Start > Control Panel > programs and features.  Look for the entry of iTunes, right click and select Rrepar.
    3. When this process is complete, restart iTunes
    4. Insert a CD and see if details are now correctly retrieved from Gracenote

If none of them have worked (and almost everything I've seen suggests that you should be OK at this time), you may have a problem with the installation and configuration of iTunes itself.  If you got this far, see notes turingtest2 on the resolution of the problems with iTunes for Windows updates for advice on how to remove and replace all components of iTunes.

  • Today my Macbook Pro could not start.  He showed me the ban or no symbol.  I was able to access disk utility and run first aid on the SM0256G of SSD Apple media successfully.  Cannot start in normal/safe mode.  Should I delete/install so I can?

MacBook Pro 13 '' end 2015.  256 GB SSD drive. El Capitan last version 10.11.4. I turned on the Macbook Pro and it could not start.  The progress bar with the Apple Logo would be present but would end not showing the symbol «»  I tried to boot mode safe - no go.  I have not reset PRAM help.  I was able to access disk utility and run successfully the first aid. No help. I was unable to restore two separate backup.  The utility show me backups however when I would go to the next screen and no backup is available.  Disk utility displays the SSD.  Can I erase the disc and download OS X install?  Thank you.

At this point, there is no need to delete. A new copy of Mac OS X can be installed directly over the old copy. This process replaces the components of Mac OS X on a file by file basis and adds missing ones, there will be no major throwing away what anyone, unless there is a power failure.

You have already run disk first aid.

Now use mode of recovery (command + R to start) to "Re-install Mac OS X. It should install the latest revision of the main version that you ran last.

  • HP w2408h - Hum / Buzz

Fort disturbing hum - sound from the right rear of the screen.

Brightness level affects the sound and it disappears to the brightness level of 100 (100%).

    It's perhaps Backlight Inverter?

Pushing the monitor from back with the hand will be stifle this noise a little more.

    Maybe it's the resonance?

I don't know that it's NOT in internal speakers.

The monitor settings are in default factory State.

So, how can I or solve you the problem.

This affects the life expectancy of the monitor?

    Hello!

I was now at the bottom of this problem. And what I realized:

Problem: Hum / hum of HP (19-24 inches?) (models > 2008?) wide 'surface of mirror' screen.

Figure users: Brightness level that affects his 'pitch '.

This sound source: Inverter power and backlight (coil vibrance).

Question: Condenser filter bad or streamers or both.

Solution: HP will not fix this monitor but they will send you a brand newwarranty.

DIY solution: Fast: spray called "transformative varnish" to mount components close to the PCB so no vibration of the coil is possible. Best: Replacement of components (capacitors / coils). Warranty canceled if the varnish is used or components replaced or even follow removed case.

So call him directly if warranty HP support on the left. Otherwise, try a local tv repair shop or do-it-yourself (diy).

  • White gray screen of death

A recently obtained a Rev B G3 iMac, updated the firmware once so I could try OS9, and two days in the HARD drive made this death rattle and crashes hard

    Wonderful.

So I order little ram from OWC (2 x 256 MB)

A 128 GB SSD home (very disappointed because they include an adapter + SSD and it is not just a SSD IDE or made to be more integrated.)  Too expensive for what it is),

and a new battery of LANDAU

Repinned new fan Cooler Master 92 mm to replace the old (works perfectly)

Starts and... gray screen.  No folder, nothing.

Try resetting the NVRAM with Command-Option-P-R and he did once successfully, but no change in the results.

Try Open Firmware with Command + Option + O F and it will start but the CRT remains off and the power light stays orange.

NVRAM later tried and he won't even be deceived, forced to do other ways to become more involved.  Still no change of result

Try holding Option at startup, nothing.  Tried holding C at the start, nothing.  Tried holding O during the boot since I heard some Macs to bring up the boot with it instead, Manager nothing.

    Tried 2 other keyboards, nothing.

I even tried 2 other internal drives CD/DVD slim just in case I got fried somehow the original drive 24 x CD, nothing.  External hard disk is not no longer works.

Recognizes to all readers and keyboards, powers, them and the readers try not seeking, still no results.

going to try different hard disks and resetting the ram, replace it with the original of the ram, etc., but hoped someone had an answer for this miracle.  Hope that I didn't somehow make fried logic board or screw up somehow.

I was hoping to keep this one close to stock (at least that I found one of these Harmoni 600 mhz cards miraculously) and a slightly less desirable another iMac G3 as my project to empty out and replace internal components with a Mac much more modern (Apple would be cool with this right?  Wouldn't a Hackintosh I think)

If there is no operating system on the new drive, it won't start (with the exception of the optical drive with a Mac OS installation disc).  Startup Manager is accessible by pressing the Option key during the boot, not the O key. I don't remember if the iMac G3 tray-loader has Startup Manager.

I think you've changed too much at the same time, so it is difficult to find the change that caused the problem.  Try to put the original RAM until make you it work.  Some of these original iMacs do not work with the RAM (unofficial) max of '2 x 256MB.'  Put the original optical drive, if it was working before.  If you have a standard IDE hard drive that is less than 128 GB, it would be a good idea to install it to rule out the possibility of an incompatibility with the SSD + adapter.

What installation disk of Mac OS that you are using the optical drive to start?

NOTE: Once you are able to boot from a Mac OS installation disc, the iMac G3 tray-loader requires the startup on the internal disk drive to be on the first 8 GB of disk space.  Due to the older IDE used in these iMacs controller, only the first 8 GB of disk space are available during the boot sequence.  After starting (when the full operating system takes over), the iMac may access up to 128 GB.  You need disks larger than 8 GB partition as the first partition is part of the first 8 GB of disk space.  A security dimension to the first partition is about 7.5 GB, with the 2nd partition using the rest of the disk space.

  • Is there a way to 'wake up' a phone with a faulty card? In addition, Apple-service (?)

It is a question of two parts: 1) concerning the material, 2) focused on the Apple Service.

    Logic board:

My phone is functional except for a faulty logic board that seems to be unable to get beyond the perception 'stage '. When I plug it in, it shows just the sign of the battery. Is there a work around to eventually help get started? I need to start up to show that the sleep/wake button and the battery is defective to get these replaced defective components. Should I wait a few days and try to load again? Should I try charging without interruption? All advice welcome...

    Apple service:

I went today Apple Shinsaibashi store to get my battery and replaced the on/standby button following replacement programs with the same name. My phone serial number qualifies for the program, I am apparently 3 months off the coast of the expiry of the replacement program (3 years from the purchase date: early December 2012 - beginning December 2015). I thought I must have been within the date of the announcement of the program, because I can't remember that the announcement was formerly in spring 2013. This seems to be a minor difference with a major impact in my case because it cancels the responsibility of Apple for replacement of the product, despite my coming in 3 years.

Apparently manager Mike thought so too and challenged me to the statement that, "if [I] came within 3 years of the date of publication of the EPR, [he] would accept and fix my phone. He went looking for information, went side and talked to technical personnel who had been helping me, came back and told me that all that he could offer me was a new phone to buy for $310. I reminded him that there was a recall of defective products made by Apple, not me and that I was simply returning the recalled product, but he pursued me talk about how, like devices, "sometimes people can get cancer", and in this case, it's just a rotten deal. He then asked me to "look in my soul" to make my own decision about what I felt I had to do with the options he presented as being available (i.e. "buy a new phone"). I'm totally serious on these remarks; I wrote our meeting down to keep facts straight people.

After spending 45 minutes my case so far, I abandoned and left to get ready for work. Out of curiosity, I went home and checked via the Internet Archive Wayback Machine, when the announcement was made: APRIL 28! On top of the ridiculous "sometimes people get cancer" and "we need to look deep into your soul" conversation, by his own words, he would have replaced of my phone!

I found generally produced Apple to work as advertised, and my friends have had generally positive experiences with Apple accept fault of defective material. It is my one and only encounter with service from Apple, and it's pretty discouraging. Anyone have any suggestions for what I can do here?

    See you soon,.
