Web site will appear as a jumble of characters. What gives?

When I try to open a Web site, it displays a full page of what looks like Hindu, Chinese and wingbat characters.

What encoding is used on this page?

Make sure that the UTF-8 is selected and not a UTF-16 encoding.

  • A Web site will appear as text only, no html, links do not work. Not such a problem with Chrome or Internet Explorer.

    Sorry Kenny. Let's that degrade.

Disables the Mode without failure of Firefox extension, so it is better to look at those to see if everything could be change how Firefox displays pages. I pointed out how to get to this section of the Add-ons page in this post: https://support.mozilla.org/questions/1075685#answer-763481

If you are not sure whether your extensions could be the problem, you can disable those which are not essential and see if that makes a difference.

Or you can copy and paste a list of your extensions on the support information page. To be open, use:

    • button "3-bar" menu > "?" button > troubleshooting information
    • (menu bar) Help > troubleshooting information
    • type or paste everything: in the address bar and press Enter

Scroll down to the Extensions section and you can select and copy the table below it. It will look a little messy when stuck, but don't worry, we're used to that.

COR - el mentioned a userContent.css file. It's a handmade optional settings file to change sites appear in Firefox. Unless you created it yourself, you have probably not it, but you can check by opening the folder to your profile (settings).

To do this, start on the page of support information (see procedure above). In the first table on the page, click the view file"" button. This should launch a new window that lists the various files and folders in Windows Explorer.

You see a folder named chrome? If this isn't the case, you do not have a userContent.css file.

If you do not see a folder named chrome, double-click inside and see what you find there.

COR - el has also mentioned the feature to forget this Site. Sometimes Firefox stores the cache entries, cookies or the specific preferences that are difficult to remove by other means. Forget this Site everything that Firefox has stored rubs on the site of history to save passwords and bookmarks. It sometimes helps to problems that have no other explanation.

  • Images randomly on Web sites will get damaged.

I have a weird problem with Firefox. Sometimes the images that I am posting on Web sites will be damaged. The image will look like it has been cut and it is sometimes completely black. This applies to the origins of the site, images on the Web sites of social media, profile and just pictures. Imagine a web page that uses two images and 1.jpg , 2.jpg. 1. jpg is an image of, let's say the logo of Firefox and 2.jpg is a smiling face. 1. jpg is corrupt, so it looks something like this: http://s17.postimg.org/wtm9ndlpb/firefox_logo.png 2.jpg isn't, it looks like a normal smiley face. The Firefox logo is used as a profile picture of someone, and the person has posted several comments. Profile photo, next to each comment, they have done will look like that. Right-click on the image and the consultation at its source will display the same thing. Now, this could be a problem with the site, but I know that it is not because that the clearing the cache and refresh the page causes the image to load correctly. The problem occurs on many Web sites, and refresh the page without emptying the cache will not fix it. Another example of this problem: pretend that a logo of Firefox is stored at https://www.mozilla.org/images/firefox.png. Two Web sites, for example, Google and Yahoo, put this image somewhere on their Web site. If the https://www.mozilla.org/images/firefox.png image is corrupted on my computer, it will be corrupted on Google and Yahoo, too. Can someone help me with this problem?

This may be a problem with the graphic display driver or hardware acceleration.

  • Some Web sites will not load

Some websites will not load or partially charge and will be usually just load the site title and nothing else and will have a spinning wheel at the top which will not stop.
They tend to work on FF before, but no more.

Also, when I click on another link or something like that it will show the whole page as it is supposed to be for the duration it takes to switch the clicked link. I can, for example, (though I'm pretty fast) click on another link and then cancel it and I'll be able to see the page (in some really weird stuff).

I read something about Java Script doing this problem, I turned off Java script and I could see some of the sites, but Needless to say that certain features of the Web site are lost.
Happens on websites very little well but still enough to annoy me. I don't like not only 2 or 3 sites from switching browsers.

I'm sure it has something to do with Java Script, but was not able to understand that even after reading some of the questions here.

Here are 2 websites that no longer works:
    http://www.parkablogs.com/
    http://www.latest-hairstyles.com/

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/tools > Modules > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is the cause of the problem.

    • Put yourself in the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/tools > Modules > appearance
    • Do NOT click on the reset button on the startup window Mode safe

You can check for problems with preferences.

Delete possible user.js and files numbered prefs-# .js and rename (or delete) the file prefs.js to reset all the prefs by default, including the prefs set via user.js and pref which is no longer supported in the current version of Firefox.

  • Why didn't - not all visited Web sites that appear in the list of authorization manager?

Some Web sites I visit (e.g., play.com) do not appear in the list on the left of authorization manager. However when I click on 'Manage cookies' they appear, with a list of all of the cookies. Is it because of a few settings, that I don't know? How can I stop this happening? Operating system is Windows 7.

Thank you very much. That seems to work for me, even if it seems no match with the instructions on the support Web page.

  • Web sites will not load on my new Satellite P300

    Hello!

I bought a P-300 earlier, at first, I had no problem whatsoever to get into the internet.

Now some websites, such as Google, Ebay, Wikipedia, Myspace will not work. They don't to load or do not display correctly. The apple website does not work either, it is impossible for me to download new versions of iTunes or new applications for my iPod. In addition, the registration of Toshiba Web site does not work, so I have no way to record my P-300!

Really, I'm quite desperate, because I do not know if my warranty will cover for my Toshiba unregistered (or record has nothing to do with security?). I would be very grateful if someone could tell me what my problem is, I could find all the other threads with similar problems.

Furthermore, the problem doesn't seem to have anything to do with the browser, I get the same problems with FF, IE and Chrome! Thank you.

Google usually uses the meta description tag. Home page of the site has no info description, just a blank description meta tag...

Search engines can't spider, which does not exist.

EDIT: If this is a WP site, you should be able to add information description of the CMS for each page. If you have not installed, it may be time to get a plugin SEO (SEO by Yoast seems decent).

  • My school's Web sites will not load on wifi but most except this one works with ethernet connection

I have a macbook in 2007 and went to school. Last week, we got our connections and what not and can surf the internet completely fine with the exception of our email, our course Web site and portal to all these things. These websites won't even load, so I can never put in my credentials. I then plugged in ethernet and everything worked except for the portal site. The error message that I always get "Firefox can't establish a connection to the server." I spoke with some computer scientists and that they had no idea of what could be done.

You can also try to reset (power off / on) of the router.

  • Some Web sites will not load on Safari or Chrome

There seems to be a problem in my mac (OS X El Capitan 10.11 running) that does not allow me to load some Web pages while I can load websites including apple.com, google.com, facebook.com, youtube.com (all other sites load on my phone and other computer). I tried to use other wifi connections, but the problem still remains.

I tried to change the IPv6 configuration, but there is no option "off".

    Safari Version 9.0 (11601.1.56)

Version of Google Chrome: 50.0.2661.102 (64-bit)

I tried the option to diagnose, but the computer is unable to find a problem and said instead that everything seems to work very well.

The error on the Web site reads as follows:

    -----------

    There is no Internet connection

There is a problem with the proxy server or the address is incorrect.

    Try:

    ERR_PROXY_CONNECTION_FAILED

Try restarting your Mac in safe mode:

    -Stop your Mac

-Wait until your computer turns off and after that press the power button

-Just after you hear the startup tone, press in and hold the SHIFT key

-Release the SHIFT key when you see a gray Apple sign and the progress under this sign bar

-Once you see office, start a scan Disk Utility to detect and repair file system errors (remember to choose your primary hard drive)

-Click on the disc to check, then, if requested to solve the problems on the repair disk

-After that click on verify disk permissions, and then click Repair disk permissions

-Once the process is complete, stop your Mac and turn it on again after 30 seconds

    I hope this helps!

  • A Web site will work on Mozilla or Explorer... but it works for friends

For the last 3 days, I was not able to get this Web site, or with Mozilla or Internet Explorer. All other sites work very well as usual. I can't connect to this Web site on another computer in the House either. But it works very well for friends. I deleted the cache and cookies. My COMPUTER knowledge is limited and I don't know what more to do. This is the message that I get up when I try to go to this site:

The server at www.bookcrossing.com is taking too long to respond.

The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few
       moments.
If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network
       connection.
If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure
that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.

    Any ideas?

Thanks for your help! Since posting here, I managed to get in touch with the technical support of the site as well. I was happy to discover that it wasn't just me - it was a problem at their end that seemed to block a few users (although no one I knew!). Touch wood, it seems to work now.
