I bought Toshiba Satellite U300-155 and I have Kubuntu 8.04 languages, but I don't see bluetooth when I turn it on.
How can I use bluetooth under kububtu 8.04?

Check if the antenna of your laptop switch is on. I think that the graphic tool should exist to manage the bluetooth. However if you're familiar with the linux console
Then, you can also try the following command to activate bluetooth:

sudo toshset - bluetooth module Bluetooth to connect to the USB bus
    sudo hciconfig hci0 upward
sudo lsmod toshiba_apci-online background of access keys (+)
    sudo tail-f/var/log/acpi
module installation sudo modprobe toshiba_acpi if not already available
Press + to turn Bluetooth on or off. Check the acpi log output
sudo hciconfig hci0 Bluetooth peripheral power

  • Toshiba Satellite U500 overheating on Linux

    Hello.

I just installed Fedora 15 on a Toshiba U500 and I noticed that it is very hot - the cpu temperature gets quickly to 80 C + and past often more than 90 c (then just pulled the fan in a few seconds).
I installed lm-sensors and sensors - detect run them, but that did not help.

You have an idea how I can fix this problem?

Have you noticed that using another distribution Linux Ubuntu for example?

I read on some forums that you could add either 'acpi_osi = Linux' or 'lapic' at the command line:

    Follow this:
-Open the /boot/grub/menu.lst with a text editor
-Add one of the above options (check first 'acpi_osi = Linux' then lapic) at the end of the line starting with "kernel".

    Maybe it helps

In addition, you can try to disable Visual effects in Linux

  • Set password Linux ATA hard drive / Toshiba Satellite Pro U200

Sorry for the long post, but I want to be as specific as possible:

    1)
I use a Toshiba Satellite Pro U200 under Linux (OpenSUSE) for some years now. Works fine without problems so far, even the fingerprint reader works. I deleted and never used the Windows XP preinstalled.

For security reasons, I have now decided to put a HDD ATA password, in case the laptop is lost or stolen (changed drive for a disk Seagate Momentus 7200 FDE.2 SATA II with full encryption of the disk material).

In order to get the protection offered by the full disk encryption, I need to set a password for the ATA. During startup, the Bios must request the password and unlock the drive only when the password is correct.

    2)
My problem is: in the Toshiba laptop it is impossible to set the hard drive ATA password directly in the bios (as is possible in HP laptops, for example). Toshiba there is only one way to set the password to disk, which is a software utility for Windows XP (named 'Assist'). But I don't want to change the operating system only to set this password.

    3)
Therefore, I tried the linux instructions

    hdparm - user-master m - security-all-pass SecretMasterPassword/dev/sda
    hdparm - user-master u - security-all-pass SecretUserPassword/dev/sda

which are used for adjustment ATA passwords. Indeed, at first, it seems to work very well. The password is set and the drive is locked.

    4)
When I restart the laptop, the Bios the HDD password request, as it should do.

But he does not accept the SecretUserPassword prior to seizure. The answer is "wrong password", or similar.

    5)
    Analysis:

I have no doubt that the password has been set correctly: I checked by restarting the laptop through rescue DVD in linux and unlock the disc via

    hdparm - user-master u - safety - unlock SecretUserPassword/dev/sda

in order to use it. No problem, it works as supposed to. After the release, the disc is usable as usual. And I can also disable the password via

    hdparm - user-master u - security - disable SecretUserPassword/dev/sda

After you disable the password, the laptop starts normally again, but I have no password.

When I re-enable the password bios Toshiba again asks the password during initialization, but does not accept the (correct) password on entry.

    6)
Does anyone have an explanation for this behavior?

Bios Toshiba has somehow changes the password entered by the user, before being sent to the disk? I think that this would be inconsistent with the ATA standard.

Anyone managed to set/change the password to ATA in a way that the disc can be unlocked via the internal order of the Bios, without installation of Windows XP and the Toshiba Software 'Assist '?

Thanks for reading this long post so far. Any response is welcome.

  • Satellite U300 PSU30C - Toshiba flash cards and problem of accessibility tools

    Hello

My toshiba Satellite U300 model is not. PSU30C-TP908C with windows vista installed

I'm going into a big trouble for a reason, all keys of "F1 ~ F12" are due to a malfunction. When I press them, they do not work like what its supposed to do, instead they all became the functions that you would when you press on them while pressing the "Fn". So now if I press F1, I actually get a count locked instead of launching the Help window. By pressing 'U, I, O, J, K, L, M' would print a number of participants, but if you put 'ON' on the numeric keypad by pressing on "F11"(Notez que je pouvais le faire sans avoir à tenir le Fn), these keys will be back to normal. "» Space bar does not work little matter what you do. The numbers "1, 2" above 'Q, W' did not work either.

Another thing, I discovered, is that when I try to open accessibility tools in the utility of toshiba. He said: "this system does not support this program.

I tried to find updates of these utilities, but I couldn't find those suitable for my toshiba. I went to the toshiba support page, click Download, and he invites me to choose my cell phone number and the model of toshiba. However, in the list of toshiba satellite U300, there are only 3 models and none of them are PSU30C-TP908C. I didn't know that one is compatible with my model, so I gave up to find the updates.

Another thing I tried is to go back to factory State with the system recovery disks provided by the futureshop that I got my toshiba of. I restart my laptop with the disc in the dvd player. But I realize that the BIOS is actaully set to boot from the hard drive. So I'm trying to get the startup list by pressing F2 or F12, but the F2 and F12 keys do not work because their functions are already outsourced functions you have with "Fn" would hold down.

Could you please tell me if there is a known issue. Y at - it an update to fix this problem? How can I find updates for my toshiba utilities if my model is not listed on the support page? If none of the above is possible, could you please tell me how can I me to the startup list without pressing F2 or F12, so that I can use the recovery disk?

    See you soon,.

    Hello

Normally, you can find all the drivers on page Toshiba Canada for your laptop:
    http://www.Toshiba.ca-online Support => Mobile Computing

Keys FN on Windows, you need the added value package. You can find it on the Toshiba site. Remove the old version and restart the laptop. Then use CCleaner to clean the registry, and then install the version.

But be honest, if you can t get into BIOS because with F2 I think that it s a malfunction of the keyboard and it has nothing to do with the tools of Toshiba.
In your case I would test an external keyboard and lets you determine if she s an internal keyboard problem or not.

    Good luck!

The laptop supports the SATA controller and there is therefore no limitations in size.

According to specification for laptop, you can be upgraded up to 4 GB RAM in order to use 2 x 2 GB of RAM. The compatible RAM modules have PA3513U-1M2G part number.

I think with SSD, you shouldn't have any problems. I updated my old P500 with 250 GB Samsung 840 SSD and it works perfectly.

  • Satellite U300-152 - no audio output device is installed

The sounds are works well when I do update windows, update antivirus and updated some software like adobe air and adobe shockwave but when I open the laptop the next morning, there is a red cross marked in the speaker icon on the lower right of the laptop and it says : "no audio output device is installed".

I couldn't find the sound and game controller in Device Manager so I'm frustrated. Its been 3 days now, I use the laptop without noise.

Can you please help me in this matter?

My laptop is Toshiba Satellite U300-152
Windows 7 Ultimate but not pre-installed (Vista Home has been the pre-installed)

I tried to download the latest audio driver from realtek high defintion, but its still does not. Tried several restarts, System Restore, disable antivirus but does not yet.

I don't know what can be the problem but the fact is that updates Windows update offers some drivers and, in general, you should not install their Mr. with other words, you should only use the drivers from Toshiba.

What can you do now? Have you tried to reduce the OS to an earlier time (before installing updates) and check the functionality?

One last thing. Software driver Sound should start with Windows, then please check MSCONFIG > startup if the sound software is listed and enabled it.

  • Ubuntu on Toshiba Satellite U940 - startup of: SSD

    Hi guys,.

I think buy Toshiba Satellite U940. The reason is that he a dimmable-up ultrabook so I'll buy 16 GB of ram and a 120 GB of msata SSD. I'm going to install ubuntu. But because I'm not sure that two important things, I would ask you first.

    1. can you the msata SSD was seen directly from the bios? I want to install ubuntu on it and also to have my case start and all programs there. I ask this question because I read somewhere msata SSD it is only for the purpose of the cache and cannot be seen directly because it is in RAID mode. So can we get around this thing from the bios? I just only to manipulate the msata SSD as a disk driver normal in my bones. It is this possible?

2 are all drivers for Toshiba Satellite available for ubuntu linux U940?

Thank you guys for your time.
    Harry

    Hi Harry

Good to hear about your projects!

I can't answer your question exactly since I don't have the necessary information to do so.
However, I can tell you some things that can help!

The RAID configuration is purely software-rendering. So it can be removed from f.ex Ubuntu disk-tool.
I installed Fedora on the U840 and U940 that have the same RAID on an internal SSD flash drive and internal HARD drive.

The RAID can easily be removed and that make storage devices appears as installation targets unique (e.g. SDA and SDB).

However, I can't tell you if any data 3' rd party SSD will work in the U940.

My Setup was when I used the 32 GB SSD as a target for the OS - which is actually a LOT of space for an OS Lnux.
The internal HARD disk has been mounted as HOME.
In this way, I had the speed of the SSD for all operations of the system (boot, updates...) while having massive storage HARD drive for personal data.

Regarding the drivers, I think in addition to the basic features should work (WiFi, screen, sound, etc).
In my tests, I noticed (but is no intensive testing is) no problem don't except the backlight on the keypad was not working on older kernels.

  • Satellite U300-130 - new compatibility of SSD

    Hello

I have laptop Toshiba Satellite U300-130 (PSU30E-03D01GPL) and I need to replace my original HDD (Toshiba MK2035GSS) Player.

I thought about buying the SDS disc this time. V300 120 GB or Plextor M5S 128 GB Kingston

Are they compatible with my laptop?
With side s no problem but what about interface?

Kingston has SATA Rev 3.0 (6 Gb/s) with backward compatibility SATA Rev 2.0.
TOSHIBA MK2035GSS HARD drive has ATA-7/SATA1.0a/SATAII1.2 interface.

My laptop does support SATA II and it will work with Kingston V300 without any problem?

    Thank you
    SEV

    Hello

    > Are they compatible with my laptop?
Generally you will be able to use any SATA 2.5 SSD drive.
I upgraded my laptop with a series of SSD Samsung 840 250 GB.
But I don get t the full performance since my laptop computer s controller supports only SATA II (3 Gb/s), but it is no problem to recognize the SSD drive.

    > My laptop is supports SATA II, and it will work with Kingston V300 without any problem?
Install a tool of diagnosis of hardware called Sisoft SANDRA and you will get details on your controller.

    Your comments would be appreciated

I didn t and hard - or software changes and it shut down properly as usual.
When I started the laptop today, it gave me an error message telling me to use the start-up aid that did not help either... He just said windows can repair this computer automatically.

Diagnostic details didn t detects an error, and when I do a hollow of the options advanced system restore it doesn t work either...
Can someone tell me how to solve this problem?
    I use windows Vista btw!

    Hello

I assume that you are not able to start using the F8 key.
Usually a start menu should appear who would be you can repair the laptop or to run a HARD drive recovery procedure (only if HARD drive recovery is supported on this laptop).

If your mobile phone does not support recovery of HARD drive, then you will need a Toshiba drive.

In this case, you will need to take the Toshiba Vista recovery disk and need to retrieve the laptop everything again.

    Hello

You have the latest version of the BIOS?
Please check if your U300 has already latest BIOS installed. U300-153 belongs to the PSU30E.

Visit the European Toshiba page, choose the model of right for laptop, download and update the BIOS to the latest state.

The laptop must use the Atheros 11 b/g wireless network card, and therefore you must use the Atheros Wlan driver!
