Weird videos found in amd64_microsoft-windows folder

I noticed that all Windows 7 computers have these videos in C:\Windows\winsxs\amd64_microsoft-windows-winsatmediasamples_31bf3856ad364e35_6.1.7600.16385_none_0b34d0642122c1c4. I've never seen it be used, so what are they for?

Use in the trials to determine the "Windows Experience Index score".

  • Virtual copies not found in the Windows folder.

I don't remember having met this before, so I'm going: I just created a virtual copy of some photos of my summer vacation and everything works fine. But when I need to access these photos right window (Windows / my images thats), virtual copies do not appear in my folder YYYYMM. Back to LR if they will appear there with an extension of 1/Copy. Right to the VC, then "Display in explore" will highlight the original folder, the VC is always not there. Part of the frustration is I don't remember what happens before (or) so I wonder if I accidentally changed settings.

    Running LR 4.1 under Windows 7 64-bit.

    Thanks in advance.

Virtual copies are "virtual". They do not exist in the records; so you can't look into a Windows folder to find them (and in fact, I think it's a bad idea for Lightroom users to browse the folders in Windows in any case, when you browse browsing in Lightroom).

If you remember you could do before, that is, you're wrong to remember, there is never a convenient where the virtual copies appear in the windows.

If for any reason, you need a photo for use outside of Lightroom (a photo, virtual or 'original' copy), you would have to export it.

  • Disk space used by the Windows folder

Hi guys I found that my windows folder takes a lot of my disk space. It takes 31 GB of my C: / drive... .and I saw on other computers just 15 and 16 GB of disk space. I also found that Winsxs is taking up to 18 GB 31 GB of the windows folder. Can you please tell me what can I do for this problem all...

Investigating disk space use to download, install and run Treesize (freeware) as an administrator.

    http://www.Jam-software.com/treesize_free/

Place a Treesize shortcut on your desktop, right-click on the icon and select run as administrator to open Treesize. You must run as administrator to see all the files. If you do not see the content of the System Volume Information folder you have not run Treesize as administrator.

    Information about Treesize

    http://www.Jam-software.com/treesize_free/

When you open Treesize scan select in the Menu and you will see a list of drives. Click on C and it will generate a list of files. Display the names and sizes of the larger 6 under windows folders.

So I was browsing in my windows folder to find suspicious files. I've been finding some weird media on my computer lately that I never put there. It was just put there a long time ago, so I'm good now. in any case, I searched "clip" and found eleven clips of duration of five seconds after the start of a race of motorcycles. Hello

    Nothing wrong here.

The clips are used to determine the speed and reliability of components in Windows 7 when the system determines the performance Windows (WEI) index Score.

Open Control Panel, see icons and click on system.

Click on the Windows Experience Index link.

I want to delete all my music and video files in the folder "downloads".  I transferred all these files to iTunes but will I lose the music and videos if I delete the folder "downloads"?

The normal behaviour for iTunes is to put a copy of media that you add manually to the correct iTunes media folder, so in theory, you can remove these downloads.  If you want to double check you can right click on the item in the iTunes window and > show in Finder to reveal the real iTunes file uses.

    % systemroot%\system32\CatRoot\{F750E6C3-38EE-11D1-85E5-00C04FC295EE}

If any of the files that begin with tmp exist in this folder, do not remove any other files. Files .cat in this folder are necessary for installing hotfixes and service packs.

Important: Do not rename the folder C:\windows\system32\catroot. The Catroot2 folder is automatically recreated by Windows, but the C:\windows\system32\catroot folder is not recreated if is renamed the folder C:\windows\system32\catroot.

  • My C:\WINDOWS folder is very large and taking up the majority of my C:\ memory...

Hi, My C:\WINDOWS file takes about 40 GB of my hardrive! I am sure that is not nearly this big, but I have no idea what to do about it...  I tried to defrag my C:\, but I do not have enough free space to do (the defrag program claims that I need 15% of my free memory so that it works properly).  I also ran cleaning of files, but it did nothing for me.  Does anyone have a solution for my problem?  I really appreciate any input.  Thank you!

What is your hard drive?  Most modern have generally 500 GB or more depending on the brand and the model.  If you have a lot of programs installed, which considerably increases the size of the Windows folder.  If you do not use all of them, you could uninstall some.  If you have lots of photos, music or videos, you can move a disc external hard or flash drives.  You can buy a hard external hard drives 500 GB for about $50.

Another thing you could do would be to run Disk Cleanup.  Double-click 'My Computer' then click on the C: drive and click on properties and you'll see the button disk cleanup, you can click to run it.

I hope this helps.  Good luck.

  • Windows folder is 54.6 G - help

I help my mother with her computer and that is the problem. It has an 80 Gig drive and full sound at 95%. When I took a peek at what takes all the space I found that the size of the Windows folder is:

    54.6 G

    30 692 files

    2 010 records

Is this normal or is there of the files or folders that I can delete to create a space on its hard drive.

    Thank you

    Mike

    Hello

Assuming that the reported properties are correct it would indicate to me that a lot of data is stored in or under the Windows folder. It is not recommended to store data in or under the main folder of the OS. I would suggest opening the folder C:\Windows and looking at each folder under C:\Windows and discover where these data are stored using the method used for the Windows folder itself. This should show you where all these data if the name of the folder itself does not index.

The number of files over 1 MB is not also important where they are and what they wear. All the Windows folder is probably as unique as their DNA, so I can't guide you through this forum as to what files must be placed that they contain and what files should not realistically.

I don't stress enough that delete the files from the Windows folder or subfolders is frought with the possibility of a disastrous result if bad things are made deliberately or inadvertently.

If you are satisfied that the data is legitimate, you will not be able to recover the place anyway so the safest course would be to leave it alone.

Perhaps the best course of action is to take the PC to a repair shop and ask them to install a clean Windows environment for you on a new hard drive bigger. Then for them to back the original hard drive and turn what was the drive C (for example) the F drive while ensuring that starts Windows from the F drive, to the extent possible, blocks. All the files on drive F: then become data to the new operating system on drive C. You can then search the F drive for real data and copy it to the My Documents on drive C, knowing that, thanks to this approach spoil things, is much less likely.

  • Running out of disk space HARD - Question on the Windows folder size

Hello! I am troubleshooting my HARD drive space. I have a 'C' HDD 16 GB with nearly 0 MB space left (fluctuates probably due to created restore points).

In any case, I discovered that my Windows folder contains about 7.7 GB of files. (I have Win XP Home Ed, 2002, SP3 installed - with MANY updates that have been installed over the years) 7.7 GB seems a lot.  Random check on the web (not sure how reliable replica is) I see less than 2 GB is what should be there.

I don't think that there are many 'other' stuff in there, certainly nothing that I placed there. is there a way to check / clean this folder?

Please do not suggest to re - install Windows as the solution, since at that time, I will buy another computer first.  then put in shape this one. It is clocked at 2.66 GHz Intel Pentium, so not ready to junk food she still.

Thanks for your suggestions. Best regards, Frank V

    Frank

Your list of the most fragmented files that partially reveals the magnitude of your problem. Note that the list does not display very large files that have less than 797 fragments. There are also many small and medium-sizes of the files fragmented with less than 797 fragments. A notable omission in your list, this is the System Volume Information folder. I can't believe that it is not fragmented, she must be on this part of the list is not displayed.

To defragment by using with Windows XP Disk Defragmenter, you need a bit less 15%. Defraggler is my favorite Defragmenter, but I doubt that it will succeed on your C partition. With Defraggler you can defragment single files, except some files, including those related to safety programs. You must try to reach 20% of free disk space.

Your swap file is severely fragmented and illustrated perfectly why the possibility of using the "let Windows manage" is not the best solution if you want the better system performance. Minimum setting fixed maximum = pagefile avoids what you see on your system. Unfortunately with a populated partition, it is very difficult if not impossible to resolve completely without having to reinstall the operating system. However, trying to mitigate the impact of what you see, it's something to watch much later in the restoration, the functioning of your computer.

My previous to Outlook Express references were specifically directed against this program. Outlook is a totally different program and solutions for Outlook Express do not apply to Outlook.

You cannot compact Outlook pst files and archives, except those who created versions of Outlook prior to Outlook 2003. You can empty deleted item folder and you must first check that it is empty. I would then back up your Outlook Archives on an external drive or flash before attempting to move the locations of archive. Once you have moved the archive folders successfully I would then move messages from your current folders to the archive folders. If you archive the current materials first of all you have more to lose if the process of change the default location of the folder goes awry. Then, you can archive your current messages and change the default location of the current file. You can move messages current return from archives as a last step if you feel the need to do so.

I copied a few instructions from an external source on how to change the default locations. I hope you find these useful.

To change the location of database of Microsoft Outlook, the OUTLOOK file. PST is to be moved. In Windows XP, you can find this file in the folder C:\Documents and Settings\loginname\Local Settings\Application application\Microsoft\Outlook\ and in Windows Vista, you can find it in the C:\Users\loginname\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook\ folder. After Outlook is closed, the OUTLOOK folder. PST can be moved easily using Windows Explorer by cutting (CTRL-X) and paste (CTRL-V) in the personal folder on the partition data (for example D:\loginname\Outlook). Now, the file is deleted from the original location, Outlook will present an error message because the database can not found. Accept the error message, navigate to the new location of the OUTLOOK. PST file and restart Outlook.

ATTENTION: If automatic archiving is enabled, the ARCHIVE file. PST must be moved as well! This file can be moved to the same location as OUTLOOK. PST, following the same procedure.
