What dependency service or group must be enabled for ICS start the firewall can be turned on

Uninstalled BitDefender 2012 and installed Microsoft Security Essentials.  I tried to activate Windows Firewall and got: "Windows Firewall setting cannot be displayed because the associated service is not running. You want to start the Windows Firewall / ICS (ICS) service. Press Yes and I get Windows cannot start the Windows Firewall / ICS (ICS) service. This option is OK. Hit that and I will return to the window Security Center in Control Panel. Tried to manually turn on ICS and got error 1068: the dependency service or group could start. What service and / or the Group?

It was more than a notice of an answer to the question I posted earlier to not be able to activate Windows Firewall once I uninstalled Bit Defender and installed MS Essentials.  Sorry that if I crossed all the protocols forum this is my second attempt to get a question an answer, luckly I kind of figured it by myself.  Thanks for the response if and the offer of future assistance.

I you merge your two threads, but your problem is perhaps due to incomplete removal of BitDefender.

I go to C:\Windows\System32\spool\PRINTERS, there is nothing for me to remove it.

Any other advice would be greatly appreciated...

    Hello yan_dao69,

I suggest that you try the methods below to solve the problem.

    Method 1:

I suggest that you run the printer troubleshooter. This will automatically diagnose and fix printing problems:

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/open-the-printer-Troubleshooter

Ideally, this would set the print spooler service issues.

    Method 2:

I suggest that you disable the Antivirus software temporarily and verify if you are able to start the print spooler service. You can check the link that will give you information disable antivirus below:

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-in/Windows7/disable-antivirus-software

Note: Please make sure that you enable the antivirus software after the test to keep your computer protected.

    Method 3:

Check the dependency of the spooler services in the registry.

    a. Click Start, type regedit in the search box and press ENTER.

    b. look for, and then click the following registry key:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Spooler

    c. right-click on spooler, click Export, save a backup file on your desktop.

NOTE: If an unforeseen problem be encountered after changing the registry, please double-click on the file to restore the backup.

    d. in the details pane, if the DependOnService value shows values of RPCSS and other key, right-click DependOnService and then click on edit.

    e. in the value data box, delete the other keys and then click OK.

    f. exit the registry editor.

Important: This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems can occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you proceed with caution. For added protection, back up the registry before you edit it. Then you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. • Print Spooler error 1068: the dependency service or group could start. __

I tried - unsuccessfully - restart the print spooler on a box of XP with SP3.  I read the previous posts for this error and this box refuses to restart the service.

Is there an easy way to fix this without reverting to a system reset?  Can I run a repair?  If so, it will fix the problem?  I tried to run a restore of the system to a previous date and who could not do anything for me either.

When you attempt to start the Print Spooler Service, error 1068 means "the dependency service does not exist. the dependency service or group was able to start. »

Depending on your environment and your type of printer installed, your Print Spooler Service will have other dependent services that must run before the Print Spooler Service starts.  If the dependent services do not work, you will see an error 1068 or a similar message on the dependent services when you try to start the Print Spooler Service.

Some Lexmark printers add their own XP services and start the Print Spooler Service, lists them as dependencies and that is why these Lexmark Services must run before the print service spooler will begin.  It may be listed as the LexBce Server.

You now or have you ever have all installed Lexmark printers?  If Yes, do you still use Lexmark printers?

Depending on your printing environment, if you use another type of printer, you can have other Service listed tab in the Print Spooler Service dependencies.

Use the Applet of Services XP to check the dependencies of print spooler and options.

Click Start, run and enter in the box:

    services.msc

Click OK to open the Services Applet.

Locate the Print Spooler Service, right-click, choose Properties, and then look at the Dependencies tab.  Services listed there must run before the Print Spooler Service starts.  If they don't, you'll get an error 1068 or a similar message on the dependent services when you try to start the Print Spooler Service.

You should always see the service remote procedure call (RPC) and maybe a few others depending on the type of printer that you have installed (Lexmark printers can add some dependency Services to your configuration of XP).  All dependent services must run before the Print Spooler Service starts.

Dependent Services may vary according to the type of printer that you have installed.

The RPC service is also required for many other things to work properly and is usually still running and the autostart value.

If the RPC Service does not work and does not start automatically, you can have other problems, but start with the easy stuff first.

Of the Services Applet, find the service remote procedure call (RPC) and if it does not, right-click and start it and set it to automatic.

Then find and all the other print spooler dependency services listed in the Print Spooler Service Dependencies tab.  They will be lance automatically the next time you reboot your system (if that is your desire), set the startup type for these Services to automatic.

When everything works as you want, restart and check your Services again to be sure that they start correctly and solve any addition
    questions.

If the remote procedure call (RPC) service is not listed as a dependency for your Print Spooler Service, you must inform XP that the print spooler service depends on the RPC service.

Click Start, run, and in the box type (including important space after the "equal" sign):

dependent on the spooler of sc config = RPCSS

Click OK to assign the RPC service for the print spooler service, and then make sure that the RPC Service is running and start your Print Spooler Service.

If you still can not understand it, react with the items that you see the tab of the Print Spooler Service dependencies.

Don't forget to restart and check that everything works correctly after each adjustment.

Please note that using the above command will effectively remove all the current (and perhaps old) Print Spooler dependency assigned for the Print Spooler Service and assign it only dependent on the RPC Service.  It would be 'normal '.

The dependence of CPP Service would be typical of most facilities, or after you have uninstalled all the time some printers (Lexmark), but your printer may have a few other dependencies.  If it still does not respond, we'll fix it!

Do, or do not. There is no test.

I need YOUR voice and the points for helpful answers and propose responses. I'm saving for a pony!

    Hi DR PEPEREMPE

Do you get the error message when you try to connect to the internet?

You can perform a scan of the SFC (System File Checker). It lists all the issues and will also retrieve all files if necessary. Follow the steps below to p Ed a SFC Scan -.

    a. click Start, click programs, on Accessoriesprincipally made, right click guestand then click run as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password, or click Allow
    b. type the following command and press ENTER:
    sfc/scannow
A message appears indicating that "the system scan will start. Be patient because the scan can take some time.
    c. If all files require a SFC replace will replace them. You may be asked to insert your Win7 DVD for this process to continue.
    d. If everything is correct you should, after the scan, see the following message "resource protection Windows not found any breach of integrity".
    e. once the scan is finished, close the command prompt window, restart the computer and check.

Check the link below for further guidance on scan SFC - mentioned

Method 2: I also suggest you temporarily disable the software antivirus (and any other security software) and firewall on the computer and see if that fixes the problem.

    Disable the anti-virus software

    Caution:

Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you need to disable temporarily to install other software, you must reactivate as soon as you are finished. If you are connected to the Internet or a network, while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

    ·         You get this error message when connect you to the internet?

    ·         What internet browser do you use? (Specify the browser: Internet Explorer, Firefox, etc.)

    Method 1:

You can perform a scan of the SFC (System File Checker). It lists all the issues and will also retrieve all files if necessary.

Follow the steps below to perform a Scan of the SFC.

    b. type the following command and press ENTER:

  • the dependency service or group failed meassage after chkdsk

My phone ran chkdsk at startup, and since I get the message "the dependency service or group could not start" when you try to load programs. On the services page, the majority is disabled what do I do?

    Hi CharlotteF89,

    1. the problem occurs with all programs on the computer?

    2. do you have security software installed on the computer?

3 do you have changes on the computer before the computer ran the Chkdsk scan?

It is possible that some third-party programs installed on the computer is causing the problem.

I suggest that you put the computer in a clean boot state and check if it helps.

To help resolve the error and other messages, you can start Windows Vista or Windows 7 by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This type of boot is known as a "clean boot". A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

  • "The dependency service or group could not start" - cannot open network connections to connect to the internet.

    Hello

Ive recently managed to repair my Vista computer from a black desktop screen, by doing a Virus scan from kaspersky in safemode, thanks for the advice in this thread

    http://social.answers.Microsoft.com/forums/en-us/vistarepair/thread/a960276d-5147-4286-A437-711e96e25296/

However, whenever I try to go to the network connections to connect to the internet, I get the error message saying "the dependency service or group could not start", so I can't update kaspersky for the last secuirity as well as not to use the internet. I tried the system restore, but there is no previous saved location for me to do. :(

Any help would be greatly appeciated :)

    Thanks in advance
