What do you do if your cd/dvd drive does not exist in the Device Manager but always turns upward when you put a disc?

HI, I lost my cd/dvd drive. It was there before, and when I had a successful previous problem to solve this but not this time. I did the upper and lower bit of regedit but without success. When I picked up this last time I learned to do something with the power reset but can't remember how now.
I can't even get off the ground with the help of microsoft as cd/dvd players do not appear on my device manager.
I use a portable Pavilion of HP9000 with a play version of Vista that is updated.
Everything else works fine but just not drive.

Hello

I would like you to follow the steps below and check them off if they help.

Step 1:

I suggest to Uninstall third-party software for CD burning temporarily and check if the CD is recognized.

Step 2:

I would say that you go to Device Manager,

a. click on 'View' and 'show hidden devices ',.
b. once the device is found, click top and "search the hardware changes.

    Hello

    (1) does the BIOS see the main hard disk drive or a secondary hard drive?

    (2) remember to make changes to the computer before the show?

You know may not be not that most systems are set to show only the splash screen. If you go into the BIOS Setup, it should show the disks that have been detected on two primary and secondary IDE channels.

Note: the basic procedure to change the setting of the disk controller is to restart your computer and enter the system BIOS. The most common method is to press F2 to enter Setup, (another PC may use a different key). On the BIOS screen, find the setting that offers the AHCI, ATA or IDE and RAID. If the parameter is set to AHCI, change the setting to ATA. Restart the PC on the Windows installation disc

Warning: Incorrect settings in the system BIOS can cause your PC function incorrectly. If you are not familiar with the configuration of the BIOS of the system, you must contact the PC manufacturer for assistance.

  • Satellite A100: CD/DVD drive does not appear in the Manager of peripherals and BIOS

The CD/DVD drive does not appear in the window manager and I can't incert CD
The BIOS displays "none" instead of "optical device".

This means that the CD device is dead?

    Hey Micky,

Unfortunately it's probably :-(. You can try to remove the optical drive and then reinsert it into Notepad, and then marketing and see if it is recognized as a new device.

Check also that it is not displayed in Device Manager and if it is remove before trying the above.

    Kind regards

  • My HP DVD/ROM does not appear in the device under my computer Manager or when I scan for readers.

My HP DVD/ROM does not appear in the device under my computer Manager or when I scan for readers, most of the time.  Every now and then it will be visible and I can use it but 90% of the time it does not exist.  I tried the regedit fix, nothing.  I tried the program Microsoft Fix It, it tells me it cannot locate a DVD/ROM.  I removed, cleaned and reinserted my DVD/ROM drive, but no difference.  I tried everything, except the upgrade to Windows 7... who will be my last resort.

    Hello gargoyle28m,

If your hardware is not detected to upgrade to Windows 7 is not a resolution. This issue may be caused if the DVD drive is faulty or connections loose on the mother board. You may need to check the connections. I suggest you check if the DVD drive works on another computer. You can contact the manufacturer of your computer to help you with this problem.

DVD drive icon disappeared from the Device Manager and my computer. I m using window 7. How can I get it back.

    Ashwani Hello,

Thanks for posting on Microsoft Community.

There are various reasons why a CD or DVD drive may not be detected. I would like to ask all of the steps in the Microsoft Article describes a troubleshooting and check if they help to resolve the issue.

Your CD-ROM or DVD drive is not recognized by Windows or other programs

    Note:

Before editing a registry key or subkey, we recommend that you export, or make a backup copy of the key or the subkey. You can save the backup copy to a location that you specify, for example, a folder on your hard drive or a removable storage device. If you make changes that you want to cancel, you can import the backup copy. For more information about backing up the registry, please see the link below.

  • Cd\dvd drive does not exist

I recently bought a refurbished Latitude D430 and partitioned the drive HARD, but in 'My Computer' has been an icon for a reader of CD (F). As the D430 is not a DVD player, I guess a key USB is connected to install the OS and software, then deleted.

Can someone please tell me how to remove the Cd Player 'ghost', that I need to use the F for my score. I deleted in Device Manager but he remains in the computer and when I restart the computer it's back in the Device Manager still with a note of explanation and a specified default. In addition every time it starts Windows tries to install the drivers for the Phantom CD

It's probably some .iso mounting software such as PowerISO, Virtualdisc, MagicIso, DaemonTools etc...

Search for one of these programs or similar and uninstall.

    Hello

If the CD/DVD drive is not listed in the Device Manager and BIOS, it seems to be defective and must be replaced.
What do you think about this?

You can exchange the car yourself. Check for a compatible CD/DVD Player user manual or go to an authorized service provider. Technicians can order a new drive to swap.

Sorry, but if the drive is not listed in the BIOS seems to be defective.

  • CD DVD drive does not recognize DVD

I have a laptop Toshiba Satellite C655D-S5202 in a 64-bit Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 environment, recently, my DVD burner has the following problems:

    (1) it could read/burn in a CDROM which is equal to or less than the capacity of 700 MB.

    (2) the player can get out of its case, it works properly when I press the button, or you click "Eject" in Windows Explorer.

    (3) he could not recognize 4.7 GB DVDs, this pop-up message "Please insert a disc into drive D".

    (4) when I insert a new blank DVD 4.7 GB disc in the drive, it will appear a dialog as messages below:

    DVD RW Drive (D :)

    (1) burn files to disc

    (2) burn a DVD video disc.

Select either (1) or (2), it can only fill 90% and it has stopped working.

I tried to solve the problem of DVD writer is not installed in the Device Manager and restart the computer, it can then read for a few hours, when I tried to burn a DVD, it has stopped working. I uninstalled DVD burner and restart again, this time couldn't even read.

I tried to download the latest driver for DVD without a bit of luck, can anyone help?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.
