What is ntuser.dat.LOG1 file under users > by default

I have a USER. 1Ko DAT file; I also have a ntuser.dat.Log1 of 45KO files. and an another ntuser.dat.Log2 1 file KB.

I think I could have done something to change the configuration of the way in which services are started to make the 45KO file.  Is this necessary?  Can I delete it?

These files are under users > default

These files are normal.    To hide, go to Control Panel > Folder Options > view and select do not show hidden files, folders, .

I mentioned services.msc and msconfig because I thought that the original poster was asking how to set up the way the services are started.  They have nothing to do with the files that you see. Steve Winograd, Microsoft MVP (Windows desktop experience)

  • Safe to remove the foreign file under \users?

On my Win 7 Pro system, I created an administrator account on the computer (MyAdmin) in addition to limited accounts that are used on a daily basis.  For some reason, my C:\users folder has not only a MyAdmin folder (and files for other users), but a folder with the same name followed by a period and the name of the computer.

My computer is called "Whale" and I have the following files in C:\Users

    Default (hidden folder)
    LimitedUserOne
    LimitedUserTwo
    Public
    MyAdmin
    MyAdmin.Whale

In Control Panel / users, I see only MyAdmin (not MyAdmin.Whale).  Similarly, in the computer management / users, there is no list of MyAdmin.Whale

Is it safe to delete C:\Users\MyAdmin.Whale and all of its subfolders?  Where it comes from in the first place?

    Here you go:

    1. Log in as MyAdmin.
    2. Click on the Globe to boot, type the three letters cmd and press ENTER.
    3. Type the following commands and press ENTER after each:
      Set userprofile
(This shows you the folder for the active profile. Which one is?)
      dir/a "c:\Users\MyAdmin\ntuser.dat".
      dir/a "c:\Users\MyAdmin.Whale\ntuser.dat".
(These commands will tell you when the profile folder last used)
      ren 'c:\Users\MyAdmin' MyAdmin.NotInUse
(This command renames the MyAdmin folder to something else. It is an intermediate step and all safe. You can permanently delete the folder in two weeks if all goes well).
Also - you burn and test a repair of Windows CD? If you have not then you must do it now, before you start playing with the system files. If you don't then will not be able to repair Windows in case he refuses to boot normally.
  • Ntuser.dat.LOG files are important to include in a backup to transfer files to a new computer?

Ntuser.dat.LOG files are important to include in a backup that is used to transfer files to a new computer? When you try to backup or copy files I get the message that these files (there are 4 of them) cannot be saved or copied because they have already opened and used on the computer. A single file is 256 KB and another has 0 KB. Can not see the other two

    Hi MAnnetteFox,

Thanks for posting the query on Microsoft Community.

You do not need to take backup of these files and they are normal files that will be generated.

    Is this normal?
I thought that he should only updated when logging in or out, am I wrong?
My OS is Windows XP SP3.

    Hello

The NTUSER. DAT is a registry file. NTUSER each user. DAT file contains the registry settings to their individual account. The Windows registry, is a "central hierarchical database" that contains information about user profiles, hardware and software contained on a computer. Does Windows constantly reference registry throughout its operation of its files. The configuration of the "HKEY_CURRENT_USER" of the registry branch is supported by NTUSER the current user. DAT file.

Note: this section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems can occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you proceed with caution. For added protection, back up the registry before you edit it. Then you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. • Someone knows a way to fix a date of file under Windows?

I just finished a behavior which verifies that a remote server for updates of CD based PDFs and downloads on request. Behavior compares the local file date (CD or HARD drive depending on whether a previous update took place) against the date of the remote file to determine if the download button should be displayed. My concern is that a PDF document uploaded to a server keeps its origin date of change, as you can imagine... however... on the directFTP xtra download assigns the current date in the downloaded file. In 99% of cases it will still work properly, but imagine this scenario:

Version 1.0 file starts on the server with a modified date of November 26, 2007
The 2.0 version of the file is created on November 27, 2007, but is not immediately downloaded
On November 28, 2007, a user with the version 0.0 our software works and accepts the download of the 1.0 version, where it is stored locally with a date of November 28, 2007 file
On November 29, 2007 version 2.0 file is uploaded to the server, however, because the file has not changed the remains of date file modified November 27, 2007.
On November 30, 2007 our user, with the version 1.0 file works our software, however, the local file (version 1.0) now has a modified date of the 28th while the remote file (version 2.0) has a modified date of 27th and so our software does not recognize the remote file is more recent.

Confusing? ... Yes, sorry about that. An obvious solution is to just make sure that the downloaded modified date of the file is the same as the effective date of the download, however, I count on human nature so that someone who screw up. If it can be done, I think that the best choice would be to set a date for local file to the server.

Sorry - it's baSetFileDate() that will put it.

  • Access ntuser.dat.log in NETWORK services folder refused even in safe MODE

I try to accessntuser.dat.log in the file services NETWORK even in safe MODE but not private.  I am logged in as ADMINISTRATOR.  I guess that's the case as well if I connected any other user?

I looked in the MGR TASK to try and identify what process this block, but I am at a loss.  Anyone know which circles I need to pass through power to life this file?

Guessing that you mean this file:

    c:\Documents and Settings\NetworkService

You cannot open the file because XP is running and the file is in use and the Task Manager will not help you indicate what (s) blocking process your effort to open the file (it is not what is the Task Manager for).

Sometimes, you can copy a file open and then open the copy, but it will not work with ntuser.dat.log and your efforts to access the file will give results like:

If you want to open the file, you can open a session under a different name and access the file of ntuser.dat.log of another user in this way (since the other user will not in use).

For example, if I am logged on as user ElderK I can't access my ntuser.dat.log file but I can access the file owned by another user as Jose in looking here:

    c:\Documents and Settings\Jose

Or, you can start on something like a Hiren Boot CD and access the file from there since your XP will not work.

I see no reason to watch the ntuser.dat.log file is binary data, then maybe you can tell us what you're trying to do and why (or you just practice).

  • Lost Local & roaming under users

I lost Local & Mobile files under users.  There was another but I can't remember it.

I've included a screenshot of search for Windows Explorer to "Roaming".

How can I fix my users subfolders?

I want to backup my MS Word 2010 Custom.dic files.

They do not move.  They were there all the time.

AppData is a hidden, folder unless you know it's there & manually type its address in the address bar of Windows Explorer, you won't find it.

You can configure your Windows Explorer to show hidden folders if this is useful for a given task.  View tab Union, file & search options, then set Show hidden files folders & drives.

  • I'm trying to migrate data from a server to a new one with the file permissions of the files of users and records lost.

    original title: robocopy

I'm trying to migrate data from a server to a new one with the file permissions of the files of users and records lost. So far, that's what I did, I used \\server1\share \\server2\share/sec /mir robocopy and robocopy \\server1\share \\serve2\share/e/s /copyall. It seams like they copied all files with the permissions of the user for the files, but not files. For example, if a user makes a folder with the files in the folder appear them have permissions appropriate for them but not the root folder or subfolders, they did... How can I fix this and what is the difference between / s /mir and/e/s /copyall?

  • My NTUSER.dat file is 7 860 Ko and I don't have enough space in my C drive, I can remove it?

I have windows XP.  My hard drive is partitioned into C & D drives.  Most of my programs is on drive C and have therefore, swallowed up all the space.  I moved more data on the D drive as possible.  I was wondering what I can remove the ntuser.dat file to free up space?

No, you do not want to delete the file.

See for a description that is easy to understand the file and its purpose - http://www.ehow.com/about_6697490_ntuser-dat-file_.html

I presume that you have run the Disk Cleanup tool... did you also remove all but the last system restore point (see related article)?

Received the infamous "blue screen" error  Installed new hard drive and Windows XP Pro.  Installed old drive "blue screen" in a "pregnant" so I could access the files.  Only problem is that I can't access the files under a specific user name, no password.  All of the suggestions.

In a situation like yours, you need to "Take Ownership" files that you can access on your old disk:

  • What is Microsoft - other hardware - HID Non-User Input data filter (KB 911895)?

    and what is it for?

What is Microsoft - other hardware - HID Non-User Input data filter (KB 911895)?

    and what is it for?

    In simple terms...

It is mainly for wireless devices that you have installed on your computer, such as keyboards and wireless mouse.

If you use the hardware wireless with your computer, the update is necessary. Without it, your computer won't be able to go to standby mode because the wireless hardware will keep the computer awake.

In the Search box, type reliability . Click performance monitor , and then click Reliability Monitor . Click on July 6 and see if everything installs is recorded. You can check the previous days if it was something you have installed and has not used immediately.

    HI mewilkat,

Looks like you have a virus on your computer. The file you are talking about is in a temporary folder that is used when extracting the files to install. Follow the steps below to clean your temporary folder where the file is stored. I'd also suggest a virus running on your computer scan.

    1. type % temp % in run (XP) or search programs and files (Win 7 and Vista)

    2. click on the first file to highlight and then scroll all the way to the last file.

3 hold down your shift key when you click on the last file, and then press Delete on your keyboard.

    4. There may be some files used by the system, so you'll have to ignore them.

    5. When finished, you will need to empty your trash

6 run the scan for viruses on your computer

Let me know what you find?
