    Calls unrequested telephone of this nature are almost always a common scam. In the future, do not make them give any info, do not give access to your PC, not give them all the money and do not go to all the websites that they suggest. One moment.

    Please see:

    http://www.Microsoft.com/en-GB/security/online-privacy/avoid-phone-scams.aspx

    Microsoft issues never not solicited for phone calls of support or security.

    These types of callers can use completely fictitious names or bogusly claim to be of real companies other than Microsoft as well.

    If you have given them access to your PC then what you do will depend on the type of information you store on it, and how to use it. Personally, I would, at a minimum:

    ·        Change all passwords that may have been compromised. Doing this on another PC you can

    have been infected and send the new password to scammers.

    ·        Make a clean (including a format) install of Windows or restore to factory condition *. You will lose all

    data, so back to a separate drive. If you do not feel confident to do this to go

    professional/expert help.

    ·        Check the above return for viruses using at least two independent analysers of up-to-date antivirus

    (only to install a scanner in real-time, however).

    ·        Tell your bank, credit card companies, etc., what happened.

    ·        Watch for suspicious charges/payments on your credit cards and lodging.

    ·        Watch your e-mail accounts for any suspicious activity.

    ·        Consider to tell the local police / authorities.

    ·        With the main exception of cleaning your PC, a large part of what you need to do is common sense

    kind of things. Think how the villain could take advantage of all that was on your PC and to take measures to

    fight against it.

    * Some people recommend less drastic measures involving controls standard antimalware. The choice is yours - it's a question of confidence in the security of your system.

  • What exactly an anti-pop?

    I have the origins of an application, and I was debugging some screens.  When I selected a menu item for which to run the function looks like this:

                public void run()
                    {
                    Contact c= (Contact) contacts.elementAt(listField.getSelectedIndex());
                    if (c != null)
                        {
                        RoloContact rc= new RoloContact(c);
                        selectedContact(rc);
                        }
                    }

    or, like this:

                public void run()
                    {
                    Contact c= (Contact) contacts.elementAt(listField.getSelectedIndex());
                    if (c != null)
                        {
                        RoloContact rc= new RoloContact(c);
                        selectedContact(rc);
                        myApp.popScreen(selScreen);
                        }
                    }

    the screen doesn't go away (here, myApp is a UIApplication, and, in the first quotation above I placed the myApp.popScreen in function selectedContact).  When I'm right now in the code, I'm not pushing another screen on it again - in fact, she returns to the event loop and there is nothing else to do.

    So my question is: the last screen is still visible even though it was released?  I will continue the experiments and can get my answer simply play, but if I do something wrong and, if I get another screen on top of it and the top is visible, this means that screen (or earlier) prior is still hanging around somewhere, consumes resources?

    I'll post all other results I have.

    TIA,

    ANW

    It is an interesting experience that you ran. I think you're right - the last screen of closure will leave the app, but apparently to burst the last screen does not work.

    Obviously, handed back one battery to the event loop means that the screen is not updated with a new screen (at least as long as your application is in the foreground). That leaves the last screen painted on the screen. I don't think you have a screen damaged lurking everywhere - just the 'ghost' of the screen of the last image always lurking on the screen. I have not tried, but my guess is that if you changed to another application, the ghost would not reappear when you changed back.

    As explained in the summary...

    Version of Thunderbird installed 38 last night. This morning I have urgent questions on the email.

    I open Thunderbird and before it finishes downloading the mails from the server, and sometimes even before the end of the authentication password for the accounts, if freezes. I restarted three times with zero improvement. Mouse and KB are both unresponsive while the LED mouse works when the mouse moves and indicators CAPS etc meet key activities respective, so devices are working on their own, but Mozilla Thunderbird blocks the communication between them and the PC.

    Now, I don't have access to email and no way to know when there is an answer to this! Nice!

    What exactly is necessary to make Thunderbird work? And how can I find out about it without any email?

    I use Windows 7 on a PC. I use Firefox and Open Office, no other product from Ms.

    What is your anti-virus software?

  • What is dwm.exe file I found suddenly in my application data folder?

    I had problems with my hung on a file named dwm.exe anti-virus software.  I go back there since last night windows prefetch file.  I have no idea what this file is located, I can't draw any type of file association properties and whenever I try to move it to the trash, I get a message saying that I can't access because it is used.  When I go to Task Manager and stop the process, it simply appears again a few minutes later just return in application, but not associated with a particular program data folder.  Avast is not seen as a virus when parsing, but it keeps popping up as the source of several warnings of malware by the anti-virus program.  What the devil am I going here?

    If you have Vista - even if you have posted in forum Windows XP - dwm.exe is the Vista Desktop Window Manager and is responsible for the graphic effects to Microsoft Windows Vista operating system such as the live previews of windows 3D effects and transparencies to windows.

    What version of Windows you have, including the service pack?

    Do not include in C:\Windows\prefetch... those who are not 'real' files but are used by Windows for loading of the speed of the applications.  Do not delete something \prefetch with the idea that doing so will improve performance.  It will not.

    You say that your anti-virus software warns of this file, but then say that "Avast sees a virus during the scanning."  If you simultaneously run two anti-virus applications, don't.  Choose a.

    What antivirus and anti-malware applications do you use?  That are configured to run all the time (that is, in the background scan)?

    This program complains dwm.exe and what is the exact message?

    Finally, it is always possible that the malware has disguised himself using a legitimate file name.  Where is (other than \prefetch) location dwm.exe?  Right click and take a look at its properties and its relationship to what you see.  If not in C:\Windows\system32, there probably IS malware.
