Old disk 60Go new 320 GB drive.  I want to do the new replacement for the old disk drive.

Use disk cloning software.

The safest way is to use an external hard drive enclosure to maintain the new disc during the cloning operation.  These come with interfaces USB or e-SATA to IDE or SATA interfaces for the drive and the computer.  Be sure to get the correct type.  If you have an available internal drive Bay, you can put the new drive it for the cloning operation, but do NOT restart with two connected drives.  After everything was settled down, you can mount the old disk of 60 GB inside, format and use it for storage of backup.

Cloning (copy to disc) software may have been bundled with your new drive or may be accessed free of charge from the manufacturer of the new command.

Otherwise, here are a few apps cloning that I have used myself or have been recommended by members of the community:

    Despite the title, this video explains how to MOVE pictures, not how to copy.

    There is no way to make copies of the photos using Lightroom, you can move the photos using Lightroom.

    Lightroom will result in no records per day, except when you import photos. If I could make a suggestion, leave your files in the same "mess" they are in now and use the keywords and other metadata to allow you to organize and search.

    "Deleting" a file does not actually delete it marks just the space
    also available to be used. There are third-party programs that can
    sometimes recover deleted files. The problem is that the space used by
    the file is likely to be replaced very quickly, and it makes
    the unrecoverable file.

    So your chances of successfully recover this file are decent if you
    Try it again immediately after the deletion of it and go quickly
    downhill from there. If you have used the computer since then (for
    example to write this question and read this answer), your chances may
    be very poor now.

    But if the file is large enough, it's still worth a try. Stop
    using the computer in question immediately, if you have not done
    already. Download an undelete program (and here's one:)
    http://www3.TELUS.NET/mikebike/restoration.html but there are several
    others to choose from; Do a search) on a friend's computer (do not
    it on yours because that would overwrite the files you want
    Undelete) and bring it to you on a CD or thumb drive to try.

    If that fails, your only recourse is to bring or send the disc
    a company of professional file recovery. This kind of service is very
    expensive and may or may not work in your case.

  • How to copy data from one hard drive to another after the upgrade?

    I have a HP e9220y, and I recently bought a new hard drive for it. There is nothing wrong with the former, but this one has a 64 MB cache and 7200 RPM so I hope it will be a little faster. I installed it and it works fine, but I want to copy all data from the old disk to the new so I can start everything off the faster hard drive and I seem to have a bit of doing wrong. I can't just copy and paste because of the Windows system files that are used. And last night when I set up Windows backup, and went to bed, when I thought it that Windows has recovered from a stop unexpected, rebooted, and only 2 GB of data saved obtained.

    What is the best way to move all the data from the old drive to the new drive, make it the default C: drive and move partitions system and factory_image as well? Thank you!

    (1) If your old drive and the new drive is Seagate or Western Digital, then free House with their cloning software.

    (2) before starting the clone process, I found best to perform a disk cleanup and defragmentation.

    Cloning software to copy the two partitions. Example:

    Old drive 250 GB formatted to 232 C: created 220 and 12 GB D:

    New 1000GO drive formatted to 931 GB created 919 GB C: and D: to 12 GB

    The "Seagate disc Wizard" cloning software will let create you a clone automatic or manual partition resizing.

    The two modes to offer an overview of the actions before commit you. The manual on this page of Seagate (PDF) is 68 pages.

    After the cloning process he complete, all you have to do is swap on the disks. Besure to connect your new disc on the original motherboard SATA port.

    You will need to take ownership of the files if you do not have permission to copy files. You need to do when running Windows Explorer as an administrator.

  • transfer all the files from a hard drive to new Hardrive with windows and office suit

    I tried to transer all my programs files again hardrive but without success using easy to migrate acornis.

    Will I need to reinstall Office

    Depends on if you have followed the instructions, immediately after the migration/clone that you will need to shut down the pc, replace the old disk with the new (leave the old disconnected) then restart. Assuming that all is OK, you then stop and connect the origonal HD as a slave, before the abolition of its partitions and then create a new.

    Office "may" need to be repaired, to a certain extent depends on the version.

  • What is the maximum size of hard drive, which can be installed in a pavilion d4790y desktop computer?

    What is the maximum size of hard drive, which can be installed in a desktop pavilion d4790y?

    It would be a secondary drive, not the boot drive.

    The operating system is Vista Home Premium, 32-bit.  The version of the BIOS is 5.08.

    Are there any changes or upgrades that would allow an internal hard drive 3 TB to install?

    Here are the specifications and configurable options for your desktop HP Pavilion d4790y and here are the specifications of its card mother P5BW - THE (Basswood2). Based on the specifications and the age of the computer, I would expect you to use a hard drive 3 TB as a secondary drive on Windows Vista (DISPLACEMENT SP1 or SP2) and Windows 7. Formatted as MBR would require the drive to use with a minimum of two partitions. Formatted as GPT would require only a single partition. In no case will you be able to use the 3 TB as a boot device drive because your computer does not support a UEFI BIOS that allows booting from a GPT formatted disk. No changes or updated should be held.

  • The automatic update Windows Vista just eliminated all my files on my hard drive

    Last night, I closed my laptop with the ability to install the business Windows vista update (as I usually do when there are updates available).

    When I turned on the laptop this morning (May 17, 2013), he went through the usual update and installation.

    However, when it finished I noticed that the Office was clean (not so many icons on the screen). Then, I went into Firefox and noticed that all my favorites have disappeared - I imagine the same for Internet Explorer and Opera too (although I haven't checked). Then, I went into My Documents and noticed nothing - all my files on my hard drive (with the exception of programs and software dreamweaver for example microsoft, office, etc) were totally wiped out.

    It is serious - help!

    Fortunately, you can restore all your data files from backups that you do on a regular basis.

    How to restore backed up files (not the lightroom catalog) from one external drive to another.

    I've recently saved my photo files to one external drive to another. The backup (carbon copy clone) pointed out some files corrupt on the original drive.

    I deleted these files and find good copies of Time Machine backups.

    I want to get rid of the original external drive; use the recent backup as my main outside and then save it to a new disc.

    I'm not sure how everything is point lightroom for backups so he knows look on the new drive instead of the old drive and all points of exclamation and question marks go away.

    There are close to 60 000 images in several files with a 'parent folder."

    My best guess is Lightroom Help - create and manage folders - locate missing files

    Can I point to the folder of one of their parents, and all of the subfolders will return?

    This is the process for recovering files in lightroom and there will be a problem with so many photos?

  • How to move the FILE from one place to another and keep "Indexing" have to move to the unknown location so you can't discover its full file path? Windows instructions provide information wrong re: how to do this!

    Make a bunch of audio files, placed in a folder on my desktop. Files initially sent to RealPlayer to burn, but when finished burning CD and went to read a CD, folder got seized by Media Player, 'Indexed' and disappeared from the office. I'm a relatively new computer user, and I need to learn more about file paths, how to view the path FULL of a file on my computer and how to type (create) full path when I need to. The "Indexing" feature seems to erase this lesson for me, and after having spent four hours trying to find Vista instructions on "How to move the file from one place to another", I gave up! Windows 'Help and Support' on my computer gives wrong directions. It states that if I right click on a folder > properties, a dialog box opens with a tab by which I can move my account. There is no tab location here. I found locations tab when right click on the "Mobile" folder, but still no option to "move file". No idea what is the folder "Roaming" or why it's on my computer. I want my audio files in the My Music folder, but this place is "access denied." Don't know how to get the audio file it in any case, but if anyone has any advice, I would be very happy! Thank you. PS - I had no problem moving folders in XP. I don't like the idea that a computer is to decide where to put my files. I want to control where I put my files. I don't like the way search works under Vista. I liked the XP search companion better because, for a computer fool like me, it was really easy to organize and find files and folders and had an option specific to find audio and video file TYPES.

    Here is an article on how to move your personal folders in Vista: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/moving-your-personal-data-folders-in-windows-vista-the-easy-way/.  If you're talking about the special folders (such as photos, Documents, office...), then here is an article on how to move: http://www.winhelponline.com/articles/95/1/How-to-move-the-special-folders-in-Windows-Vista.html.

    If you have trouble with the search after you move the files, then rebuild the index: http://www.tech-recipes.com/rx/2103/vista_rebuilding_the_search_index/.  Here is an article on how to use Indexing Options in Vista that may be useful for you: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/69581-indexing-options.html.

    If the above does not help, your problem seems to relate to the image of the files/folders and their interactions with Media Center (which operate on different other folders).  Please repost your question in images and video Forum at: http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/vistapictures/threads where the people who specialize in issues of the image will be more than happy to help you with your quesitons.

  • Cannot copy a Machine of Vitrual XP from one external drive to another

    Interesting problem I can repeat that with one of my virtual machines in Fusion 2.0.2

    1. I have an XP VM I'm copying from one external drive to another.

    2. it starts copying, then, at the end of 40 MB, it stops and a message indicates the virtual machine is in service, one can not be copied.

    I did the same with my Win7 and Vista VM with NO problem from the same player to start on the same end drive, just this VM XP gives me problems.

    I can open the XP VM without any problems and I can close with no probem.

    No matter what siggestions about what goes wrong and how to fix it?

  • Problems with the indexing of the files on my hard drive

    Hello world

    I am a newbie to oracle and I try to index files from my hard drive with the oracle text. After that I created a simple text file (path: "c:\tmp\test.txt") and filled with a short text, I executed the following lines without error message:

    Grant connect, resources, myuser ctxapp;
    create table myuser.testtab (id number primary, key BFILE text);
    create or replace directory test_dir as "c:\tmp";
    grant read on the myuser test_dir directory;
    insert into myuser.testtab (id, text) values (1, BFILENAME ('test_dir', 'test.txt'));
    create index myuser.idx_test on myuser.testtab (text) indextype is ctxsys.context;

    the record in the table testtab is stored, but the index table is empty. After that I tried to get information on the bfile with java, I got a SQLException with the error ORA-22285 Code after you run the following lines:

    File of type BFILE = null;
    try {}
    RSet = stmt.executeQuery ("select text from testtab where id = 1");
    If (rset.next ()) {}
    file = (rset) .getBFILE (1) (OracleResultSet);
    System.out.println ("result from fileExists:" + file.fileExists ()); This is the line where the exception is thrown
    }
    } catch (Exception e) {}
    e.printStackTrace ();
    }

    I would be obliged for more information on this problem.

    Thanks in advance,
    Chris J.
