  • What is the difference between redundancy and recovery for retention window?

    Hi all

    I'm still trying to get a grip on this concept of planning RMAN backup.

    I recently came across a situation like this.

    I have backups on a redundancy of 1.

    I have instance1, who had a job of GRID to run backups RMAN as follows

    Database incremental level = 0 a week at sea at 02:30
    I have backups daily, incremental level = 1 every night
    I have backups of the log of the archives through the day.

    What happened, was apparently on a TUE some time, the development team remove data in almost all of the tables in the schema.
    The this didn't discover until noon or so on Wednesday.

    I went to try to restore... and RMAN could not do. I had found a SNA for early TUES, they did... but I got the following error:

    RMAN > RUN
    2 > {}
    3 > SET up to this THAT SNA 4590383198282.
    4 > RESTORE database;
    5 > RECOVER DATABASE;
    {6 >}

    executing command: SET until clause

    From restoration to the 28 April 10
    allocated channel: ORA_SBT_TAPE_1
    channel ORA_SBT_TAPE_1: SID = 639 device type = SBT_TAPE
    channel ORA_SBT_TAPE_1: NMO v4.5.0.0
    allocated channel: ORA_DISK_1
    channel ORA_DISK_1: SID = 638 type device = DISK

    File number of the data file = 1 name=+DATADG/instance1/datafile/system.284.697137287
    RMAN-00571: ===========================================================
    RMAN-00569: = ERROR MESSAGE STACK FOLLOWS =.
    RMAN-00571: ===========================================================
    RMAN-03002: failure of the command restore at 2010-04-28 15:53
    ORA-01180: cannot create the data file 1
    ORA-01110: data file 1: '+ DATADG/instance1/datafile/system.284.697137287 '.

    What I did... of research, it seems that since I don't have a level 0 incremental of before, he could not reset the database in time. Precedent has been removed since, I guess I had a redundancy of 1.

    So, I thought that I had a week of backup they way I put it... but that assumes that the errors are found fairly quickly before the next level = 0 backup.

    I want at least 1 to 1.5 weeks of worth of backups. I have the problem that we do have many tapes in rotation, so I can't go because too long..may 2 x weeks at the top.

    I'm revising my strategy, but I am confused that I read about the difference between retention RMAN setting with window of recovery / redundancy.

    Can someone give me an explanation how do you understand? I read on the web and in books to oracle, and for some reason, it is not clear to me what is the best way to go... especially when I see this window of redundancy and recovery can affect?

    Thank you in advance,

    Cayenne

    Redundancy = 1 means rman will mark any more old than the backup of the last full or incremental backup of level 0 as obsolete. So it is very likely that the backup that you need for this restore has been removed after work Wednesday morning.

    The recovery window will tell rman to keep (or not obsolete brand) all necessary backups to restore to any point in time in the recovery window.

  • How can I check if I have a virus in the BIOS and what is the difference between formatting and full format in Windows 7?

    Hello

    Recently I found a rootkit on my computer, especially rootkit.tdss.tdl4. Of after I read that I got one of the best!

    I have two questions:
    Firstly - how can I check if my BIOS was hit without blinking? I read that this Trojan horse could have started exactly from the BIOS, and very likely to stand again after doing a clean install. I have a laptop HP seems like flashing procedures require to disconnect the disk hard - is this true for laptops?

    Second, is how I format to ensure that clean the MBR? I have Vista and want to upgrade to Windows 7. I have Windows 7 upgrade ultimate disc that can do a custom install which should format entirely. Tell me if I think too old school here but should be low (or zero) format is required? From what I've read, the function of full format of Windows 7 should be as powerful as the low level. is that correct? I don't mind the overtime work as long as I don't have any problems (at least with this Trojan) later. I also fear that upgrading Windows 7 disk might not have all the features of formatting as a full version, which is a nonsense?

    Thank you very much for your help!

    In addition, suggest that you scan your computer with MalwareBytes' to remove all traces that may still be present.

    MalwareBytes Anti-Malware (MBAM)

    http://www.Malwarebytes.com/>

    The free version of MBAM is a scanner at the request and offer no protection "real time". Keep and use it as "second opinion" scan.

    Windows 7 tools to format the drive should be sufficient:

    Boot from the Windows 7 DVD

    Click Install now

    Accept the license agreement

    When the option is displayed to select a type of installation, click (Custom advanced)

    Click on drive Options

    Select the disc/s click on Delete

    Click new

    Click on apply

    Click OK

    Click Format, and then click next to proceed with the installation

  • What is the difference between extensions and Plugins and Add-ons?

    I'm sorry if here is not the right place for this post.

    What is the difference between extensions and Plugins and Add-ons? Apparantely, they differ in some sense or aspect, but I do not know how. Please, if it is not too complicated, explain in detail and simple language. Thanks in advance to 1 million.

    Kind regards

    Hi Danesh,

    You should take a look at this article for an explanation. Plugins and extensions are essentially types of Add-ons as well as of the characters and themes.

    Hope this helps!

  • What is the difference between AXIEM and EMSIght? What are the benefits of AXIEM by EMSight if any?

    I wonder what are the differences between AXIEM and EMSight. Are associated with application? One is better than the other? Please explain.

    AWR estimated AXIEM most powerful plan EM Simulator around.   AXIEM is at the center of continuous research and improvement, while EMSight is only worked on if revealed serious flaws.  Here is a summary of the differences:

    Mesh

    • EMSight must mesh the nearest grid drivers using rectangles.  This causes the mesh to have more elements mesh when there are small and large geometries.  The grid should be small enough to capture the small geometry but then causes large geometries to mesh more.   In addition, angled or curved structures causes inefficiencies mesh.

    • AXIEM STS forms, rather than a grid.  In addition, the mesh can be rectangle or triangle.   This allows a much more efficient mesh.   AXIEM generally have a much more efficient

    • AXIEM contains the ability to process forms to clean geometries that cause inefficiencies of the mesh.  EMSight does not have this feature.

    • AXIEM can forms thick metal mesh, EMSight can not, and user must make approximations when thick metal will change coupling (loss is recorded properly with the thickness of the metal)

    Ports

    • The ports are for the most part similar, but parasites due on AXIEM ports are less.  In addition, the AXIEM has a side wall, thus the effects of not move of the terms of reference of the edge of the line are a lot less AXIEM in.

    • Ports can be added to most any place in geometry with AXIEM.  For EMSight, the ports are usually only added outside the geometry and have limitations to the aircraft on either side of the reference speaker.

    Problem solvers

    • EMSight does not have a low frequency Solver.  Stop low-frequency and then extrapolate to DC.  This usually works well, but you must take into account if the extrapolation is accurate.  AXIEM presents both a low and high frequency Solver so will do better in a low frequencies generally much better in DC.

    • Solver of EMSight scales O (n) ^ 2 for memory and O (n) ^ 3 for the moment.   It has a special algorithm to break the question of memory, but the question of time is the killer.  AXIEM has a direct Solver which scales in the same way and an iterative Solver which will scale O (nlogn).   In other words, AXIEM can solve a lot of bigger problems than EMSight.

    • Several AXIEM processes are multithreaded as EMSight.

    Speaker

    • EMSight is inside a perfect driver side wall.   This works well if you the circuit is in the same cavity.  If not, you must know the rules of them on to the forms of space of the flanks and how that much to extend the port could reference planes.   AXIEM is not here.   AXIEM does not currently have to simulate a perfect driver side wall.

    I don't know that I missed a few aspects of the tools.   From the point of view of the AWR that AXIEM is the tool of choice, except in a few cases have been EMSight may be required.

    Can I use the same drivers for each of them?

    Hello:

    There is not much difference.

    If you want to compare all the details you can check this link:

    http://h18000.www1.HP.com/products/QuickSpecs/12428_div/12428_div.PDF

    You can probably use the same drivers for either, but they all have both their own support pages and separate driver.

    What is the difference between upgrade and custom installation options?

    Hello

    How to do a clean install:

    http://www.SevenForums.com/tutorials/1649-clean-install-Windows-7-a.html

    Sometimes the only way to upgrade is to do a clean install,

    " Upgrade Windows XP to Windows 7 "

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/help/upgrading-from-Windows-XP-to-Windows-7#T1=tab01

    To upgrade your Windows XP computer to Windows 7, you will need to select custom during installation of Windows 7. A custom installation keeps your programs, files or settings. It is sometimes called a 'clean' for this reason installation.

    "Upgrading from Windows Vista to Windows 7"

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/help/upgrading-from-Windows-Vista-to-Windows-7#T1=tab01

    You then have the repair facility, which is an In = Place Upgrade.
