What is the difference between the Satellite Pro 4200 and 4300 series?

As mentioned in another thread, I have a SP4220XCDT that died on me.

I bought a mobo on ebay which was a 4290 and today it happened, but the problem was that there was an apparently fixed CPU, which stands out much less of the Council than that of the Board of Directors 4220 and therefore does not connect with my 4220 cooling mechanism.

At least something comes on when I start now, but unfortunately he has passed the Toshiba screen that tells you to press F2 for boot sequence.

Having also spent money on a new CPU and memory, I don't want it let go and I've seen a motherboard available suitable for a 4320/40/60 - does anyone know if it will agree with the rest of my 4220? It doesn't have a cpu so presumably will have the same mechanism as the motherboard 4220.

I'm assuming that these may be compatible since I managed to find a pdf of a service manual that covers both the 4200 and 4300, although unfortunately the first page is missing, so I don't ' know if that highlights any differences.

It's frustrating that there's no PDF for these older models, at least with the plug on them, and it is very difficult to find info.

As usual, thanks for any help!

Hello

As far as I know the two series using the Intel Mobile Pentium III with MMX microprocessor? Technology.

I discovered these details:

Satellite 4260 series: Mobile Pentium III 450 MHz
4270 satellite series: Intel Mobile Celeron 500 MHz
Satellite 4280 series: Mobile Pentium III 500 MHz

Satellite 4320 series: Mobile Pentium III 600 MHz with Intel SpeedStep technology
Satellite 4340 series: Mobile Pentium III 650 MHz with Intel SpeedStep technology

Portable measures should be also the same. So in my opinion, it should be possible to use the same motherboard for Satellite Pro 4200 and 4300.

I want to switch the HARD disk in my Satellite Pro 4340. I know the 4200 and 4300 SP series can take at least a 20 GB HARD drive that I've already updated a SP4270 and SP4280 drives from 20GB already.

I did a search on assignments earlier re. Satellite Pro 4200 and computers portable 4300 series as various other contributors of this forum had already asked this question. A respondent suggested that they had installed a 60 GB HARD disk without problem.

  • Floppy disk drives for Satellite Pro 4200 and 4300 series

I have four portable Satellite Pro - a 4340, a 4310, a 4270 and a 4280 and I have trouble getting the 4310 and 4270 to recognize a particular floppy drive. My understanding is that Mitsumi D353G FDDs were consistent with these laptops 4200 and 4300 series but I can't get the 4270 and the 4310 for «see» They will all be two however 'see' an FDD alternative I - a Pansonic JU-226A202FC, but I only have one of them and two laptops needing a floppy drive replacement. I tried a D353G I know (from my 4280) works in the 4310 and the 4270 but nothing helped. I'm keeping an eye on for an another Pansonic JU - 226A202FC FDD on ebay but no luck so far. It's frustrating because I don't know a FDD D353G expected to operate in the 4270 4310 and I have two spare ones that I wanted to use. I looked in TSETUP.exe and you can see no settings that I can change to make these laptops see floppy D353G so any help or insight greatly appreciated readers. Someone there a 4270 a 4310 runs successfully a floppy D353G drive or is this a quirk and these two particular models were made only to work with a Pansonic JU-226A202FC floppy drive not D353G disk drives? Clues?

    Hello

Unfortunately, I am not a technician but I guess that there is clearly a problem with compatibility. It is possible that the assignment of pins is different and you cannot use them. If you want to have a precise explanation, you should contact technicians. I'm sure they have diagrams of the motherboard and can give you a good explanation and Tips how to handle this problem.

    Good luck!

  • Satellite Pro 4200 and wrong screen resolution

OK, so I have an old Toshiba Satellite Pro 4200 and I m running windows xp professional on it and I ve been wondering because many programs do not work on it because of the resolution of the screen I want to know if there is a way to change.
I know usually you access properties etc but when I try to drag, he does not slide remains at 800 x 600.

So if anyone can help me on what I d really really really appreciate it.

I'm pretty sure you don't l l install the display driver. It is necessary to use solutions above 800 x 600 screen.

The drivers, you can download a Toshiba site but don t forget to look in the * Archives * because your laptop is not the most recent:

  • Are the keyboards of the Satellite Pro A300 and A300 Satellite the same?

    Hello

For the moment, I am here in France, and I plan to buy a Satellite Pro A300 with a QWERTY keyboard (which is not exactly a problem for me at the moment). The problem starts when I return to my country where the layout of the keyboard is QWERTY. I intend to sell the laptop when I return (I love not hooked to a laptop computer for a very long time). The thing is that the Satellite A300 is officially sold in my country, but not the Satellite Pro A300. I wonder now if the keyboard for the A300 is compatible with the Pro A300 (looking at the discussions of the forum for older models suggest they are compatible, but I'm not completely sure).

Can someone provide a definitive answer to this question of compatibility?

    Thank you!

The button of keyboard layout doesn't depends on Satellite Pro or series of satellites, but of the country where the phone was purchased.

Different countries need different keyboards button and that's why the buttons are assigned to different positions on the keyboard.

But the keyboard itself could be used in Sat Pro or Satellite phone too.

    Hello

the second location of memory perhaps is the problem.
Try to start with a module in the second slot, first an empty slot.

  • Last day I bought the Satellite Pro L550 and it's great

Last day, I bought a Toshiba Satellite Pro L550 (PSLWTA-00K00G).
    It's CORE i5 - 520 M, 4 GB, 640 GB, 17.3-HD200, HM55 + ATIM96 Pro + 1 GB, DVD, 802.11 b/g/n WLAN, WIN 7 PRO (XPP).

    It's really great.

Not bad. 4 GB of RAM and HARD drive with lots of capabilities on board. I assume that the hardware configuration will be good enough for your needs.

All you need now are good external speakers for good sound quality (watch movies or listen to music).

  • HP officejet pro 8710: difference between HPOffice Jet Pro 8710 and 8715

I just bought a HP 8715 at costco but went to Staples and their model is 8710. seller says the 8715 is a lesser model feature offered only to large stores and discount stores... is this true.  When I install with the disc, for the 8715, he keeps referring to the and said in fact on the Toolbox newsletter I have a 8710...

Can someone clarify this for me... just want to be sure I have a good model... works well, but the difference of $10 I can come back to Staples for the 8710.

    Hello

The HP Officejet Pro 8710 and 8715 are the same product, as part of the 8710 series.

These are only differences commercial for the same printer, which may apply to different retailers or regions.

You can find the specifications below, you same specification applies to both model:

  • Ask about the maximum memory recognized in the Satellite Pro 4200/4300 series

I thought that the maximum RAM that could be recognized in the series SP4200/4300 of machines was the 64 MB on board, over a maximum of 2 X 128 MB tapes in the two expansion slots for a total of 320 MB.

However, I came across an ad from someone who claims to have managed to get recognized 448 MB (64 MB on board, 256 MB in a slot and 128 MB in another location) in a SP4270. This seems to go against what was supposed to be the maximum specification of 320 MB, consisting of 64 MB on board 2 X 128 MB in the expansion slots.

The accepted view was that 128 MB memory bands was the maximum that could be recognized in each of the slots. However, it seems that this employee have discovered that this is not the case.

Other contributors have some luck with the modules of memory of 256 MB being used/recognized by the machines SP4200/4300? The poster suggested that the machine could cope with a 256 MB module and a 128 MB module.

Any comments from anyone who might have tried this or variations on this? What two 256 MB modules? -Someone at - it tried?

I do not have this good old classic, but I can just confirm your info on maximum RAM. I imagine that the RAM for this oldie modules are not expensive. Why not take a risk and buy a 256 MB module.

    Hello

As far as I know, Toshiba offers a few drivers are included in the recovery image and it is unclear to me that there are different drivers LAN for the specific model of laptop.
All these drivers are available if someone wants to install a clean version of the operating system and do not want to use the factory settings.

Have you created your own ghost image to SP U400 with all the necessary applications for the company's employees?

  • Satellite Pro 4200 and Linux

Yes. I have still the old 4200. Is that too old for any support? As for Linux? Anyone know of any good distributions that I could use? I tried Fedora Core 3 but it is really too large and affects stability. My live Ubuntu CD won't even load, which is quietly, as I don't quite like Ubuntu. I've got MEPIS Linux. Someone at - it tried?

Is it possible to get drivers for the monitor? I have re-installed Win98 "and now the screen is really small or the resolution is bad.

My goal is to have a dual boot. Grub Boot Win98 as a default and a distribution of linux as a secondary for me.

    Hi Andy

Problem is that Linux is not supported by Toshiba and if you have problems you're alone. If you want, you can check this page. Maybe you can find some information useful http://newsletter.toshiba-tro.de/main/index.html.

If you need drivers for your unit you can find them on http://www.toshiba.ca/web/home.

  • Satellite Pro 4200 recognize RAM only in the B slot

I have recently got a Satellite Pro 4200 and want to increase the memory up to 320 MB.
To start I bought a 128 MB module and have found that with a 64 MB module in a slot and the 128 MB in the other system only recognizes the module into the connector B.

Must the modules in the two slots be the same value for the system to recognize them? i.e. the 128 MB or two 64 MB.
If this is the case its OK but if it's not I don't want to buy another 128 MB module, if the location is unservicable.

    Thank you
    Billabilla.

    Hello

Wow Sat Pro 42000 is an oldie I didn t think someone using this mobile in the future, I mean it's a great laptop but the performance he is too weak to be present-days.
As far as I know the Satellite Pro 4200 was equipped with Mobile Intel Celeron 500 Mhz or with an Intel Pentium III 450 Mhz / 500 Mhz.

Pentium 450 Mhz CPU equipped units can be improved up to 320 MB. All other units can be upgraded up to 576 MB.

I think that the 64 MB module should not be removed!
You must use 64 MB + 128 MB or 256 MB or 512 MB (only for models with 500 Mhz processor).

    Hope this helps you

  • Satellite Pro 4200 - annoying click speakers

    Hi all

I have Satellite Pro 4200 and it works well but has a click on the speakers. It's OK while surfing but on downloaded music there are about 5 quick cycle repeat modes. It does same start-up jingle. Is this an easy useful solution or not?

I can get back to where I bought it.
I'm on a dongle 3, but I doubt that it is the cause. It's OK the system in turn.
I got to the redesign of the dept Board and supposedly they are loaded NT 2000 but yet again wrong than ever.

    Thank you

Satellite Pro 4200 is old enough for laptop and I imagine that the speakers are defective. I think just replace can help.
Check eBay. You will find parts cheap for these old books. If you have someone to swap the speakers will be the right solution for you. Or simply bring it back.

  • PCMCIA card as a serial port RS232 on Satellite Pro 4200

I think to use a PCMCIA card as a serial RS232 port. The program that I need to use runs under DOS and needs two serial ports. My question is that I need to run the program and the serial port to be recognized by the system. I have a satellite pro 4200 laptop PC series.

    Thank you

Why on Earth if you want that?
Your laptop computer with a serial port doesn't have it?

Well for the serial ports are standard supported on Windows. In a back box that should be no problem.

But pure back could be a problem.
I guess you must also BACK drivers for your PCMCIA card...
