What to do when a virtual machine goes gray?

I have an old version of Fusion on my son's computer, mainly because he never uses Windows. I very rarely do on her computer when I can't use mine

Is 4.1.4 and I just received a message and upgraded to the latest version of the Mavericks. When I walked into the virtual machine, he gave me the "just improved XP automatically and restarted" message and would not work the network card in one of the three parameters (it has been set by default on NAT).  Then the virtual machine started giving the error message can't go in unity Mode (I think I was in the mode of the unit at the time!)

Then upon restart, he was told of the release of 6 and still can't connect to the internet (without connection, how he knew!)

Then when I tried to go into network settings, the entire virtual machine crashed, which is unusual, the VM everything is gray and none of VMWare as SEND Ctrl-Alt-Delete menu items will work, all are grey.  Except the key and all keys are grayed out themselves.  Hold down the Option key modifies the menu, but almost everything is always grayed out.

I can close this virtual machine, and it is unlikely to work again on this Macbook please?

Yes, in a Terminal, use the following syntax:

/ Applications/VMware\ Fusion.app/Contents/Library/vmrun t stop vmname.vmx fusion

Where vmname.vmx is the full qualified path of the virtual machine. VMX configuration file.  Take a look on: work with Virtual Machine packages

Open the package of the Virtual Machine in the Finder and then drag and drop the configuration on the Terminal window .vmx file after that copy and paste the command show above up to and including the space after the judgment.

  • vROPs - you can create a report to show when a virtual machine has changed and what has changed?

    I can't currently developing a report/view that can show me what I'm looking for.  I thought since it's related capabilities vROPs can keep track.  Is there a way to see the when a virtual machine has changed and what has changed?  Looking mainly vdisk, vCPU or vRAM.

    Thanks for help or suggestions.

    Hi newbski1,

    There are few things you can try to help him with this.

    1. the events view shows you changes in resources, it is not terribly detailed, but it will help

    2. depending on your version, you can also view in Configuration Manager that is part of the vRO suite that will show you the changes to configurations.

    Records are a method of setting permissions in VMware vCenter. They form a triage unit and behave as a logical separation. When you first add the hosts to vCenter and you have all the files, there will be a default folder created for you as Richardsonporto mentioned.

    Later, you can create new folders and separate the virtual machine by drag-and - drop of their.

  • Let me know scenarios when different virtual machines with the same UUID are created in VMware Hypervisors?

    Let me know scenarios when different virtual machines with the same UUID created in VMware Hypervisors, aside from editing the .vmx file?

    The only other way I've seen is when you manually copy the virtual machine to another location on the data store (or another data store) and then when turn on/off the virtual machine, select I moved, rather that I copied it (the default option).  This will keep the same UUID.

  • Remove objects from the AD when a virtual machine is removed from the vCenter with vCO

    All,

    I am new to vCenter Orchestrator and have bad getting started with him.  I'm trying to figure out how to automatically remove the Active Directory from the computer object when it is deleted in vCenter.  My idea is when the virtual machine is removed, it starts a workflow that deletes the object.  I don't know how to call that or if it is still possible.

    The problem I am trying to solve, is that our developers are self provisioning of servers Windows and Linux through vCAC in the realm of 50 + per day.  They also remove most of them in 5 or 6 days causing much left on objects cluttering up AD.   So I try to find a way to have the deleted object when they destroy their vCAC provisioned machines.  My original idea was to make based on the GUID and UUID but I not figure out how to actually call with vRO.  I'm open to other ideas that can adapt to this task better, no need to force this idea of the solution to the problem if someone already knows a way to do that.

    Little background information is that I'm under vCenter 5.5 Update 2, 6.1 and vCO 5.5.2 vCAC.  The objects being deleted are Windows 2008 R2, Windows 2012 R2 and CentOS 6.5 servers.

    Thank you in advance, I think that once I get more of an idea on how it works, I'll be able to deploy more ideas.

    This can be achieved by simply adding following some custom properties in your Machine Blueprint or group of companies in VCAC.

    Plugin.AdMachineCleanup.UserName-

    Plugin.AdMachineCleanup.Password-

    Plugin.AdMachineCleanup.Execute

    Plugin.AdMachineCleanup.Delete

    Otherwise, create a profile to build using above set of custom properties, this way it will be easy for you to add in several plans in your environment vCAC.

  • HA - specify on what ESXi host must go virtual machines

    Hello

    I am new to virtualization and VMware, and I have a question. I have configured a server cluster and enable HA, all that work fine with that, if I shut down a virtual machine server correctly restart on the other two hosts.

    My question is, is it possible your configure each virtual to go on a defined host computer if there is a problem. Example: I want that if 1, 1 VM host crash is happening on host 2 and VM 2 will host 3. In fact if the 1, 1 & 2 VM host crash go on host 2 because there is no hardware limitation I think.

    Thanks for your help!

    Hi normchri1920,

    It is a little tricky, but how about you using admission control?

    I used to have the same problem, and I managed with the help of admission control and control of crack size.

    To understand this technique, you must first understand what "slot size" means. See the document of vmware.

    Assume that you have 3 guests with same spec (same specifications of dimensions and cpu memory), and you have 4 virtual machines.

    And the size of the slot is a half size of total host resource; If you have a host contains 64 GB of memory, size of the slot will be 32 GB.

    4 virtual machines reside each guest as below.

    In this situation, if dead Host1, VM1 switch to Host2 and Host3, HA behaves like below.

    or

    Still you can not control for witch host VM1 or VM2 switch, but you can at least control each VMs to go to separate the host.

    I hope it works for you.

  • Space in the store of data not released when a virtual machine is removed

    Hey all,.

    I have a game fairly simple up - two servers ESXi 2 Terminal servers. I'll have a problem, but with space in the store of data not be released on one of them after that I got a clone to the virtual machine, made my changes and removed the original. I can find no record anywhere, using vSphere (not in the inventory or when I browse the data store), but the HARD drive space using the server is still assigned somewhere.

    Any body have tips on where to find or how to fix this if it is indeed a problem?

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

  • Migration of storage when the virtual machine has several data stores

    How can I (or can I) use Storage vMotion on ESX4.0 U1 to migrate part of a virtual computer to a new data store?  I have a virtual machine with 5 data stores attached and move 1 data warehouses to a LUN of larger size.  What is the best method?

  • AutoSave is slow when the virtual machine is not active

    When I actively use a Windows 2000 Server VM and AutoSave is triggered, it's very fast.  But if I did not use the virtual machine for a while, it takes some minutes and minutes.  If I'm trying to go back to the virtual machine, I have to wait indefinitely for the automatic backup complete.

    Is it possible to set the priority for the automatic backup feature?

    Are you talking about VMware Fusion AutoProtect feature, or something else (perhaps in the comments)? Offhand, it seems that when you have not used within a certain time, Fusion got paged out. Taking the automatic snapshot requires paging backward, which can take some time. You can test this theory by looking at activity monitor and looking at the pageout/publication numbers when you see an automatic preview slow.

    Pageouts and pageins are controlled by OS X and not something we have control over. Adding RAM to the Mac, it is more likely merger will stay in memory and avoid this situation.

    The fact that they are all less then 2 GB it means a split disc are rare otherwise they would all be all of the 2 GB.

  • Correctly remove resources when the virtual machine is deleted

    Hello

    I've created a service plan to power off the virtual machine and delete the vcenter.  The workflow works very well, but apparently not released the vRA resources.

    Then he said: the virtual machine has actually deleted vsphere, but since the vRA, Managed administration portal machines, I found the virtual machine that I removed from the service by using the mentioned service blue print now appears as "missing."

    My question is how to downgrade the machine virtual and also removed its resources reserved correctly?

    Thank you

    Jimmy

    Hi, Jimmy - I met the same problem recently and did the following:

    1. download the VC:VirtualMachine object.  This can be done in several ways, but in my particular case, I use the com.vmware.library.vc.vm.getAllVMsMatchingRegexp module.

    2. get the VCAC:VirtualMachine of the object to VC:VirtualMachine object.  Still, there are different ways to do this.  I created a getVCACVm action, which takes a #1 VC:VirtualMachine object:

    var vCACVm = null;

    var uuid = vcVM.config.instanceUuid;

    var vCACVms = Server.findAllForType ("vCAC:VirtualMachine", "VMUniqueID eq '" + uuid + "'");

    If (vCACVms.length == 1)

    vCACVm = vCACVms [0];

    Return vCACVm;

    3. delete the VCAC:VirtualMachine entity.  You can use the com.vmware.library.vcac.deleteEntity module to handle this.

    KEEP IN MIND... This removes only the vCAC/vRA entity.  You should always turn off the virtual machine (if any, see: library/vCenter/Virtual Machine management/Power Management / power off the virtual machine and wait) and delete vcenter (see: vCenter/library/Virtual Machine management/Basic/remove virtual machine).  I do this before performing the three steps above.  He there maybe better, easier, faster, etc., ways to do it.  I hope this helps.

  • How can change the end of thick disk when a virtual machine has been placed on the disk?

    After you have moved the virtual computer to another stage, chose the thin disk bad. Now, the virtual machine cannot start. the error message says that it must be thick for clustering. So, I need to change it back if possible. Then I moved it back and thick chosed. But, after that, I got a same error. So, after you move, the atatuse disk was not be changed. Is it a way not both directions? How can change the staus thin to thick?

    Thank you!

    George

    Hello George,.

    You can also convert virtual disks in eagerzeroedthick from the command line.

    vmkfstools-j VMname.vmdk allows to convert a thin disk in eagerzeroedthick

    vmkfstools k VMname.vmdk that will do it on a thick disk

    It can also work for a thin disk, click with the right button on the vmdk in browser data store, and then click 'inflate '.

  • Can I download can imagine them in the data store when the Virtual Machine is running

    Chris

    If you want to have a consistent state, Yes.

    If you just need a consistent state to the accident, you can create a snapshot, download the base vmdk files and then validate once again the snapshot operation.

    You cannot download files in use (except the read-only).
