What type of SSD (2.5 "SATA III or mSATA) is compatible with my Studio XPS 1640?

Greetings.

I'm looking to update / replace the original hard drive in my Studio XPS 1640.  I decided on a SSD Samsung 1 TB 850 Evo, but - without opening to the top of my laptop an extra time - I don't know which format is compatible: the 2.5 "SATA III or the mSATA?  I will very happy if someone can tell me which of these SSDS work with my laptop.

You need a reader 2.5 "SATA - there is no support for type mSATA or readers PCIe card in this system.

The SATA controller is 3G, so you will not see the full implementation of a SATA 6 G - you'll get only half of that can support the disk - but a SATA SSD will work with the system.

The system is designed for a 9.5 mm hard drive - you'll need a spacer to mount a 7 mm SSD (some readers from Samsung and Crucial include;  If yours is not that they are just a few dollars).

    Hello

The SSD can be used instead of the HARD disk.
The handles for laptop and SATA 2.5 9.5 mm height HDD.
For me, this means that you can also use a height of 2.5 9.5 mm SATA SSD drive.

The SATA controller is compatible with the latest standards.
This means that you will be able to use the fastest SSD drive. But of course the SSD drive performance (data transfer speed) will be pointing down to the same standard supported by the controller.

Which SATA (I, II or III) is compatible with the dv7-6178us? Specification the SATA is backward compatible. This means that disks SSD SATA type will work in your notebook. The SSD will be made only to the level of specification SATA your SATA controller is capable of. If the controiller is SATA150 so your SSD SATA600 installed work bandwidth SATA150.

What is the largest compatible SSD, or should I expect for the best performance? , You can install one with the largest capacity you can afford.  I would recommend not to install a larger than 512 GB. My own brand preferences are Intel, OCZ Technology, Samsung and SSD Crucial.  Purchase of the SSD in upgrade kit is the simplest solution. Upgrade kits come with a SATA to USB cable and cloning software making it a fairly simple process to upgrade the laptop. See the post-it that I wrote at the top of the section of portable equipment for some details on this.

What is the greatest player I can additionally ADD the SSD for storage? I recommend you not to install any disk hard legacy with a capacity greater than 1 terabyte. There is no guarantee that a superior who will work as expected.

  • [Y550] New HDD SATA III. Is it compatible?

    Hello.

I want to know if I can change my original WD hdd (I'm preety sure it's SATA I), again SATA III? I don't know if the motherboard will be compatible with SATA III. What do you think?

And by the way, what model of motherboard is in it? Unfortunately, my serial number fail to pass on the support site, so I can't check the configuration it (and my HARD drive is broken, so I can't use the software to check it out).

And the third question: will there be any signs of change if I Exchange my hdd SATA III. I don't know if it is important in Y550.

Thanks for all your responses in advance.

    See you soon,.

    Peter.

    Hello
    Welcome to the forums
In the y550 sata port is sata 2. If the disk sata hard 3 would also go to sata 2 speed. This is common for all models y550
If you know the configuration of your computer, you can view the psref removed systems and it corresponds with the model No.
    http://www.Lenovo.com/PSREF/psrefs_withdrawn.html
The sata 2 would be faster than the sata 1 and that means faster data transfers.

  • driver SATA AHCI of 64 - bit - Compatible with HP 6910P or not?

    I have a HP 6910P 64-bit Windows 7 Professional.

I've recently updated the primary drive to a HARD drive to 120 GB for a 128 GB SSD. However, the performance gain was minimal.

Checking, I discovered that AHCI is not enabled and there is an option to do so in the BIOS (to date).

The HP Web site lists a compatible 32-bit version (7.6.0.1011 REV: C) SATA AHCI driver for this model of laptop.

However, despite quoting the same version (7.6.0.1011 REV: C) the 64-bit version does not list the laptop of HP 6910P under the list of compatible hardware.

Is it simply an oversight or is there a valid reason, why the 32-bit version of the driver is compatible so that 64-bit is not?

You are the very welcome, Drambo.

I have provided the driver because I thought that you would just install the driver mode IDE restart and change SATA configuration native from disabled to "Enabled".

Since you changed to "Enabled" SATA Native Mode and then reinstalled W7, you need do nothing else.

How can you tell that the AHCI is enabled?

Go to Device Manager and click on IDE ATA/ATAPI Controller section.

You will find your controller SATA AHCI enumerated (Intel(r) ICH8M-E/M SATA AHCI Controller).

If the BIOS has not been set to AHCI, the controller would have said, it was an ICH8 Serial ATA Controller, or words to that effect.

    Terlat1234, welcome to the forum.

Yes, it seems that the drive will work on your computer.  Here are the components on the memory Crucial site with their Crucial tool.  One of their recommended updates is a MX100 - 512 GB - SSD which is SATA III.  "Given that these drives are 2.5", it will be necessary to buy an adapter for it to integrate into a 35 ' drive Bay.

If you want more information you can contact their customer support.  They have always been very useful when I contacted them.

  • Dv6 - 6153cl supports hard drives SATA III?

I have a problem with my laptop and I think I've narrowed the problem down to the HARD drive. I want to replace and update, but I don't know what drives can I use.

I would like to know if I can install a SATA III HARD disk in my computer laptop dv6 - 6153cl. From what I can tell, it currently has an installed SATA II HDD. Can I switch from SATA III or am I stuck with SATA II?

Download the SATA-III. Even if the motherboard supports only SATA-II (not true in your case), you can use the SATA-III drives. SATA is fully backward compatible. But, yet again, your motherboard HM65 chipset that supports support SATA-III. A good rule of thumb is that if it has USB 3.0 is also SATA-III. Not 100% true but terribly close to true.

Is what type of SSD?  There, the 2.5-inch drive form factor?

I don't know any "adapter" that goes directly from SATA FireWire.  But you can use any typical external FireWire drive.  If the SSD is a 2.5-inch drive, get something like this

  • IdeaPad Z570 - can he support a SATA III SSD?

    jhollender,

Z570 is only Sata II. So if you were to get a SSD SATA III, you only use it to speed SATA II and not to speed SATA III.

Please look around and see if there is no reviews with users using a Z570 with SSD because there have been compatibility issues concerning different SSDS due to the type of controller used.
