When I boot computer I get this message... Remove the c:/System Volume Information directory. EFaDATA\SYMEFA. DB-log is corrupted and unreadable

Original title: damaged and unreadable

When I boot computer I get this message... Remove the c:/System Volume Information directory. EFaDATA\SYMEFA. DB-Journal is damaged and unreadable... How to fix this?

Thank you very much for your help.
I discovered the new external hard drive was the problem. Formatted as NTFS seems to be a problem so I reformatted to FAT and the problem disappeared.
The error message was: the journal of System Volume Information EfaData SYMFA DB file or directory is corrupted and unreadable.

Thanks again.

  • When I turn on the computer, I get this message - COM + Event System has stopped working. How can I activate this return?

I had virus protection total defence installed. This occurred immediately after.

Thanks for your answer to my question. I was about to start step 2, by performing a boot minimum when a message pops up informing that 2 programs were slowing down my computer and also to stop because they were also running. Ironically, these programs I've ever used has appeared on my computer advertising protection against viruses and to speed up the computer.

I did not purchase the license if it comes to start up all the 3 or 4 days telling me that my computer is slow.

I uninstalled both programs, which I won't mention for obvious reasons and the event system Com + message did not return after the computer has restarted 3 times. Apparently, the problem has been resolved, but I will continue to have oversight. If the problem returns I'll restart and inform you about the results.  Thanks again for your expertise. guavaridgemb

Thanks for posting your question in the Microsoft Community.

I understand that when you turn on the computer, you get an error message indicating that COM + has event system stopped working. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I imagine the inconvenience that you are experiencing. I will certainly help the question of fixing.

Please follow the steps and check the question below:

    Step 1:

Check the event viewer for the logs of error from the links below.

    Open Event Viewer:

What are the information in event logs? (Event Viewer):

    Step 2:

You need to perform a clean boot to prevent any third party conflicting application from interfering with your computer.

To put the computer in a clean boot state, you must follow the steps in the article mentioned below and check with the question.

How to perform a clean boot for a problem in Windows Vista, Windows 7 or Windows 8:

Note: You must follow step 3 of the article mentioned above to recover your computer to a Normal startup after you complete all the steps.

    Step 3:

Scan your computer by using the Microsoft Safety Scanner by clicking Download now to check if there is no virus infected:

Note: The data files that are infected must be cleaned only by removing the file completely, which means that there is a risk of data loss.

The cause of the error is right here in the error message: the thread [IE Lightroom] has attempted to read or write to a virtual address for which it doesn't have the appropriate access.

This means that Lightroom was trying to read or write to a specific file or folder, but access has been denied. This file access is known as permissions and some security settings refused Lightroom access he needs. As a general rule, Lightroom will perform these actions on his file of catalog or settings files. These would be the first files to verify permissions on and verify that you have full read and write access: preference file and other file locations | Lightroom 5. Many permissions are user based, so if you connect to a different user account (or new), you will probably find that this error does not occur.

However, a virtual address is mentioned, so this could be a problem with how the virtual assets has been processed by the virtualization system. Lightroom running in a virtual environment (something like VMWare)?

  • When I restart my computer, I get this message error loading C:\windows\pxtdmap.dll, what should I do?

Error loading C:\windows\pxtdmap.dll, what should I do?

    Hi Nancy,.

The error message says anything else? Just, based on

"C:\windows\pxtdmap.dll", I am unable to find a possible solution.

The error message contains more information or could look you in your system event viewer to see if there is a more detailed error message there?
It would also be possible to use the system restore utility to restore your computer to a time where you did not receive this error?
  • When I turn on my computer, I get this message, "a duplicate name exists on the network."

I've had this name for years, what happened?

Thanks for the reply.  No, the computer name and workgroup name are not the same.  Should they be?

No, if they were the same, which can cause the error you see.

I can't guess any further, unless you answer the other questions.

The error is a complaint that another device on any network to which your computer is connected has the same name as the 'full name' shown in system properties.

Although there are utilities that scan your network and to report the names of connected devices, they are somewhat nonsimple to use and probably would not work on a computer that will expose the error your report.

If your computer is on a home network, share an Internet connection using a router, you can manually check all other devices.  You don't maybe not easily able to determine the 'computer name' no computer network devices, but it is highly unlikely that such a device, for example, a network printer, called "Lamb stew Computer" or else you might have named your computer.

Just to be sure there isn't something special going, disconnect your computer from your network (or your Internet connection) and then it reboot.  The duplicate name error should NOT appear if the computer is not connected to a network.

The computer works fine in safe mode, I suggest you perform a clean boot in order to check whether a third-party program or service that runs in the background is the origin of the problem.

Refer to this article for help:

How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7

please check that you put your computer to normal startup mode after completing the troubleshooting steps. Steps are available in the article above.

  • that means "syntax error" - I often get this message on the commissioning

Often, I get a "syntax error" message when I start my pc - whhat does that mean?

    Hi Gerald,

    1. What is the full error message that you receive?

    2. did you of recent changes on the system?

3 Windows operating system you are using?

    4. are you able to boot into normal mode after receiving the error message?

This means an error in the syntax of a sequence of characters or tokens that is intended to be written in a particular programming language.

Because you receive the error message at Windows startup, you can try to perform a clean boot and check if the problem occurs.

A clean boot to check if startup item or services to third-party application is causing this issue.

How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7

After you resolve the problem, see step 7 in the article above to restore your computer to a Normal startup mode.
