  Hello. Thanks for all the posts on this topic. I have the same problem, as described by the op. But, while I use Avast, I have NOT the add-on from Astromenda which has been mentioned. However, I have the SB installed toolbar, and it has been recently updated, 29/12. I suspect that it is the culprit, if this problem is in fact not caused by an update of Firefox (my tiles have recently been reset on new tabs, and I suspect that Firefox for this problem).

  I am ready to remove the toolbar from the SB, but prefer to keep it (Yes, I admit I'm stupid) If this annoying 'new window = 2 tabs with 'new tab' at the top' would just leave.

  As I mentioned in my previous post "with a local account. Signature with a local account (with or without password) allows you to use the files, settings, and applications on your local computer only. ", if with this you do not set a password for the local login when the login screen appears, just click anywhere on the screen, and it will be unlocked.
