When I click on the Firefox icon, it says: "cannot load XPCOM. What can I do?

When I started this morning at the computer and clicked on the icon of Firefox, I received the message "unable to load XPCOM. What can I do to fix this?

Hi, this problem can often be solved by performing a clean reinstall. This means that you delete your Firefox program files, and then reinstall Firefox. This process does not delete your Firefox profile (such as bookmarks and passwords) data, since this information is stored in a different location.

To do a clean reinstall of Firefox, follow these steps: Note: you can print these steps or consult them in another browser.

  1. Download the latest version of Firefox from mozilla.org office (or choose the download for your operating system and language on this page) and save the file to install it on your computer.
  2. Once the download is complete, close all Firefox Windows (or open the Firefox menu

    Click the close button

    ).

  3. Remove the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
    • Windows:

      • C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
      • C:\Program Files (x 86) \Mozilla Firefox
    • Mac: Delete Firefox in the Applications folder.
    • Linux: If you have installed Firefox with the distribution-based package manager, you must use the same way to uninstall: see Install Firefox on Linux. If you have downloaded and installed the binary package from the Firefox download page, simply remove the folder firefox in your home directory.
  4. Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
    1. Double-click on the downloaded Setup file and go through the steps in the installation wizard.
    2. Once the wizard is completed, click to open Firefox directly after clicking the Finish button.

More information on the resettlement of Firefox can be found here.

WARNING: Do not use an uninstaller to third parties as part of this process. This could permanently delete your Firefox profile data, including but not limited to, extensions, cache, cookies, bookmarks, personal settings and passwords saved. They can be retrieved easily unless they have been backed up on an external device! See back up and restore the information contained in the profiles of Firefox.

Please report to say if this helped you!

Thank you.

    Help!

    Hey noeleengeary,

You should take a look at Knowledge Base article Firefox does not start - solutions. There are lots of good information in there.

Regarding the message that Firefox is running, you need to right click in the taskbar (next to the time and date) and open the Task Manager. You can kill the process running in this menu. Which will ensure that Firefox is not running in the background.

Firefox is a web browser, not a homepage.

Looks like you have the old www.google.com/firefox/ start page to be the default home page in Firefox before Firefox 4.0 sometime. It is not maintained by Google more so either ignore the message or while in Firefox, go to tools-> Options-> general-> home page section and change your home page.

  • Why do I get the message asking me to allow Firefox to make changes to my computer whenever I click on the Firefox icon?

When I click on the Firefox icon on my desktop, instead of struggling just to the Firefox page, I get a box asking me if it's good for Firefox to make changes to my computer. If I hit Yes, I get the Firefox page. If I don't hit, I get nothing. What is the reason for this?

Check that you are not Firefox running as administrator.

Right click on the desktop Firefox shortcut and choose "Properties".

Make sure that all items are disabled in the tab "Compatibility" in the Properties window.

    • Privilege level: "Run this program as Administrator" should not be selected
    • "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" must not be selected

  • Why my favorites appear actually when I click on the bookmark icon, but not when I click on "show all bookmarks"?

Something went this afternoon and when I started Firefox all my favorites have disappeared. I reinstalled Firefox and recovered my favorites. My bar on the top of the browser's back, and when I click on the bookmark icon, it shows all my favorites. However, if I click on show all bookmarks (ctrl-shift-B), none of my favorites appear. • I click on the firefox icon and it appears: firefix.exe - Bad Image I can't open even to click on one of the ideas of troubleshooting

I already turned on my computer and x 5. Whenever I click on the firefox icon this box appears:
C:\Program Files (x 86) \Mozilla Firefox\mozglue.dll is not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try to install the program by using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or the provider of software for support. (This happened with the laptop and I have no idea who is a system administrator) While I was just online the computer locked up then he said he was doing the updates. I closed the computer and now when I try and open the above happens. Mozilla is my home page. I was able to click on internet explore to get to this stage.

do a clean reinstall and remove the Firefox program folder before reinstalling a new copy of Firefox.

Download a new copy of Firefox and save the file to the desktop.

Uninstall your current version of Firefox, if possible, the settings in the software security and cleaning of the Windows registry.

    • Do NOT remove the data personal when you uninstall your current version of Firefox, because all profile files will be deleted and you will also lose your personal data such as bookmarks and passwords from other versions of Firefox profiles.

Delete the program folder Firefox before installing newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.

Your bookmarks and other profile data is stored in the Firefox profile folder and will not be affected by a uninstall and (re) install, but make sure that 'delete personal data' is NOT selected when you uninstall Firefox.
