When I click send/receive in Outlook Express 6 I get this error: "your server has closed unexpectedly the connection."

PLEASE HELP ME WHEN I SEND/RECEIVE I GET THE FOLLOWING

Your server suddenly put an end to the connection. The possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity. Account: 'Hotmail (1)', server: 'pop3.live.com', Protocol: POP3, Port: 995, secure (SSL): Yes, error number: 0x800CCC0F

I WAS ABLE TO SEND WITHOUT PROBLEM, BUT I CAN'T RECEIVE. ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.

Repost on the Inbox.

Error number: 0x800C0133 = a corrupt Inbox.

Move any message you want to save to a local folder that you create. Then, remove the problem of Inbox as follows.

Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store folder will reveal the location of your Outlook Express files. Note the location and navigate on it in Explorer Windows or, copy and paste in start | Run.

In Windows XP, Win2K & Win2K3 the OE user files (DBX and WAB) are by default marked as hidden. To view these files in Windows Explorer, you must enable Show hidden files and folders under start | Control Panel | Folder options | View.

With OE closed, find the box of Inbox.dbx and delete it. Another will be created automatically when you open OE.

General precautions for Outlook Express:

Do not archive mail in the receipt or sent items box. Create your own user-defined folders and move messages you want to put in them. Empty the deleted items folder daily. Although the dbx files have a theoretical capacity of 2 GB, I recommend all a 300 MB max for less risk of corruption.

After you're done, followed by compacting your folders manually while working * off * and do it often.

Click Outlook Express at the top of the the folder tree so no folders are open. Then: File | Work offline (or double-click on work online in the status bar). File | Folder | Compact all folders. Don't touch anything until the compacting is completed.

Disable analysis in your e-mail anti-virus program. It is a redundant layer of protection that devours the processors and causes a multitude of problems such as time-outs and account setting changes. Your up-to-date A / V program will continue to protect you sufficiently. For more information, see:

In addition, what is the exact text of the Internet security warning? I don't know if who came fron OE or your safety program. Or even a matter of Hotmail that I can't help with either, because I've never used Hotmail. Hotmail-specific questions should ask here.

It can be something as simple as turning off email in your anti-virus program that is unnecessary and can cause this. However, if it does not, ask the experts in this forum. Here, few people use this e-mail program.

  • Your server was terminated unexpectedly the connection, cannot receive e-mail

All of a sudden, I have my email on Windows Mail and Vista OS, do not download except the first. I tried to disable the security and Microsoft Fix - it.  I can access my emails on my laptop under Windows Live Mail, but I prefer to use the Mail on my desk. The error message is below.

Your server suddenly put an end to the connection. The possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity. Account: 'VICKI SMITH - BT Yahoo! Mail', server: 'mail.btinternet.com', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, secure (SSL): no, Socket error: 10053, error number: 0x800CCC0F

This looks like a problem with Yahoo.  I would suspect that your settings are incorrect, but if you haven't changed anything, it is probably just a temporary server problem. I would like to restart your computer to be sure.

I have run outlook express 6 when I hit send and receive button told me how many emails I have to come then gives me an error message like this "an unknown error has occurred. You may have a corrupt inbox.  Move all messages from the Inbox to another folder if you can.  Then move the inbox.dbx file in another directory in the message store directory (found via Tools |) Options | Advanced | Maintenance | Storage folder and files are hidden).  OE will create a new one so that should solve the problem.

Alternatively, you can go to file | Identities and setup a new identity, which will give you a new message store) and then add your e-mail account.  If it works fine, you can use the file | Import | Messages to get the messages from the old identity.

In the future see points 2 and 3 here: www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#2 and make sure that you back up your messages frequently, because cases often get corrupted.

  • I lost 16 months of emails when I click "Compact Messages" in Outlook Express - Help!

I searched on the internet and made the following to address my problem-

. Working offline with Outlook Express

. Open Recycle Bin on the Windows desktop

. The '.bak' file located I wanted back

. Clicked on the file '.bak' with the right button of the mouse

. Restore selected in the menu

BUT now, I can't locate the file in Windows Explorer and open the folder that's in.  How can I find the file - I did a search for all files and folders, and anything else that is listed, but it comes up with zero results.  HELP PLEASE

In addition to Bruce's response, go to tools | Options | Advanced | Maintenance | Storage folder and that will show you the location of the message store.  Copy to this location.

Then go to control panel | Folder options | View and uncheck Hide extensions of known file types and check the option to show hidden files and folders (the message store and its files are hidden).

Then, open Windows Explorer and paste it into the location you copied into the address bar and then you should find the dbx and bak files.

Then see www.oehelp.com/backup.aspx#imp1 to re-import the bak file in OE.  If it doesn't matter, then you may need my DBXpress (www.oehelp.com/DBXpress/) program to retrieve messages.

  • Used to be able to send pictures on Outlook Express 6.0. Now my friends are unable to open the files that I send to them.

I am running Windows XP and have all the updates.  I use a Dell computer six years but still works well.    I have Outlook Express 6.0, which I think is common to updates.  Until last week, I used to be able to go in the folder 'My images' my documents.  Then I could click on the thumbnail of the photo and choose E-mail this file option.  I can still do all of these things, and in my folder of emails sent, it seems that my email has been sent with the image in two piece attached and incorporated into the enamel.  BUT my friends say the email is empty or the picture is distorted with the bottom half cut off when they try to open it.  I haven't changed anything, why what is happening?

It would seem that something is corrupting the message when you send it, and when it happens.  Try to send you a copy of the messages you send with pictures and see if you get the message intact.  Compare what you get with what is in your sent items folder.  BTW, images are attached only once.  By default, they will appear at the end of messages if they are attached, but they are not included twice when transmitted.

If you receive a message truncated as your other recipients, find interference antivirus (see www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3).  You can also try to rule out problems on your computer by clicking file | Store identity in OE and establishment of a new identity, which will give you a new message and the hive of the registry, then you can add your account and test to see if this solves the problem.

  • My ISP is spelled when I set up Outlook Express. I get an error everytime I try to use it.

    Outlook Express problem

The address to which Outlook Express shows when it is trying to connect to my ISP is misspelled (Comast rather than Comcast) for an error message shows everytime I try to use it. When I go to run and then Control Panel there is no icon for mail so I can't Mail configuration to try to fix the problem. What can I do?

In XP, Outlook Express, you need to go to Tools, accounts , and then double-click the e-mail account you want to change in the Internet accounts dialog box. This opens the Properties dialog box for this account. Looks like you need to make changes to incoming or outgoing mail tab servers servers.

As I pointed out, sometimes turning off the analysis e-mail messages is not sufficient. That still leaves his hooks in there. Analysis of the e-mail may be harmless for a long time and then it throws an update of Kaspersky. Please remove Kaspersky, restart and then reinstall in custom mode and remove analysis when it is presented e-mail messages.

Other than that, the only thing I can think is your modem or router. That's assuming that all of your settings are correct.
