When I close the lid on my MBP, it goes to "Standby" to "Hibernate" why?

My MacBook Pro for six years had been working perfectly until about a month earlier, when he stopped to stay in Mode standby when I closed the lid.

With the lid closed, initially, he goes to sleep, but after about 30 seconds, it goes into hibernation mode and to turn on again, I have to press the power button. I then get a grey screen and no use of the trackpad. Shortly after, the gray screen disappears and the machine works perfectly.

The battery life is very good (68%), I have reset the SMC and I have not loaded the new software. The only thing I can think is that this started to occur at the time of the last update of Safari.

Does anyone else have this problem?  Comments or suggestions are appreciated.  Thank you.

Hello, Spring Lake Bob!

Thank you for using communities Support from Apple. After reviewing your post, I understand that your MacBook Pro sleeps as expected when you close the lid. Instead, it goes into a hibernation mode that requires you to press the power button to interact with him again. I certainly understand wanting to make sure that the computer sleeps when it should wake up how it should. I'd be happy to help you!

Get help with your situation, I would say using the article below the link to help isolate and solve the problem of sleep.

  • External screen goes blank when I close the lid Satellite P100

    Hi all.
I hope someone has an idea as to what is happening here.

Sometimes I like to watch a dvd or use the center of the media on my HD TV. I use Windows Vista to make it.

When I had XP installed, I close the lid of the laptop and watch them to my heart's content. Now with Vista, I need to have the lid open be able to watch on the external display. If I close to you then the external screen is empty, as if I unplugged the laptop.

That makes me free! What worries me is burn-in screen, because the standby screen not turn on as I am watching video.

    Help! Someone! Anyone!

AFAIK in Vista that you can use the same options as under WXp. check please supply option and you will find an option called when I close the lid. As option, choose no action.

I think you should be able to close the lid while watching the movie on screen.

I recently had my Satellite 1800-314 (Windows XP) re-formatted and now when I close the lid he's going to sleep... the power light flashes orange, when I opened the lid still once, Windows stops and then restarts. Have uninstalled then Toshiba power settings and all the settings of ordinary power in the Panel of 'sleep', etc., but it REST did not return to standby mode.

Is there a simple solution that I'm missing?

    Hello

You know it's very important to install drivers in the correct order.
The installation of common modules at the beginning is important because some drivers of Tosh need this application to work properly.
If the energy saver has been installed on the operating system windows power settings will not work.
Toshiba crash parameters the parameters of Microsoft.

In addition, please check your BIOS preinstalled. Compare the version with the BIOS on the page. If your uses of the unit the old version, so try to update.
But be careful. You must use the good BIOS and the right procedure upgrades.

Try to download and reinstall the os x on top of what you have.  He should leave intact user files.

Of course, it is always good to have a redundant backup plan in place.

  • Satellite A200 AH3 stops instead of standby when I close the lid

    Hello

I have a laptop Satellite A200 AH3. When I bought Windows Vista was preinstalled (I still drive recovery). When I closed the lid of the previous day (I mean the monitor turn off the HD, the cooling fan and all the rest). The light On / Off on the laptop turned to a flashing orange light.

Then I opened the lid and Windows prompted me to the logon screen. This process occurred when the laptop starts on the battery, not when it is plugged. Everything was going fine.

But I formatted the HD to install WIndows XP that I bought Windows vista seem to be too heavy for my laptop. So I installed Windows XP and the driver and the software available on the Toshiba site. Now when I close the lid, the Windows shut down very quickly (about5-6 seconds). However, it is a real firm. When I reopen it cover anything happen.

Then I press the power button / stop and start Windows, normally (no screen saying that windows close annormally and no Safe Mode boot option). Even if I change the setting in the control panel/power Option or the Toshiba Power Saver, utility and I put them to sleep, he always make a stop down.

    How do I restore that?

    Hello!

Have you downloaded the BIOS for Windows XP?
For the Satellite A200, there are two versions available; one for XP and one for Vista.

Also, make sure that you have the latest graphics card driver and keep your XP to date.

    Good bye

Hi, I just bought a HP Pavilion 15-n253sv and I noticed that when I close the lid its turns off instead of getting in standby mode. Also when I stopped it, and then I close the lid it lights up. Its like the on off button. Is it a hardware problem that I must return the laptop? I checked out the settings and it is said that when the lid is closed it just goes to the standby mode. I have win 8.1.

    Hi Biliou,

Welcome to the Forums of HP Support!

If I understand you correctly, your computer shuts down when you close the lid, and if it is turned off and you close the lid it lights.  I think you are right to think it's a hardware problem. You can contact our technical support at the 800-474-6836. If you do not live in the United States / Canada region, please click on the link to get help from your region number. Contact HP worldwide

I hope that this helps, please let me know how it goes.

  • Windows 8 do not sleep when I close the lid

I just got the Elitebook 850 G1 and I put all the parameters of sleep when I close the lid and wake up when I open it. I checked the two settings in windows and in the BIOS and it's all good, but when I do actually, he does not wake up but restarts the computer instead. So when I was away typing on Word, fortunately I constantly save it but it's not back to where I left off. I thought it was one of the graphic drivers first, because he has dual graphics, intel and ati. He had a few problems with the ATI card, but I think that I fixed it. I am running windows 8.1 Pro.

    What can I do else?

    Edit:

I tried changing the settings to hibernate instead, and what he gave me was a BSOD.  Video_dxgkrnl_fatal_error. I remember that what made the first time I tried to do it before when he was on the way 'sleep'. any suggestions?

is not serious, I fixed it. It turns out that the new graphics driver intel was the culprit. I had to revert to a previous version. works perfectly now

When I close the lid of my new laptop Inspiron I don't get the emails.  I also do not receive if the lid is open and I have not used the computer for a while. Can you still get emails on outlook while your computer is in mode 'sleep'?

  • Takes too long to Hibernate when I close the lid - also the noise of random device when starting

    Hello guys.

Since I wiped the machine, I had these two problems. When I close the lid, he used to go to bed right now, but now I see the light of sleep (and the power button), flash and flash, and then he goes to sleep.

Upon awakening, he crosses the start of lenovo screen and resumption of the windows, then it asks for a password, before I used to open the lid and he was asking me the password immediately. I know it was going to sleep because I could hear the beep immediately when I closed and opened, but now it takes just too long.

In addition, every time I have boot into windows or resume in a sleep state windows, I hear the sound of the device, like something being connected input/output. But there's nothing being plugged or back at the time. I can't to Device Manager fast enough to see who it is who is the cause.

But all the drivers seem to be correct.

    Thanks in advance.

    Sam.

EDIT: Also noticed, when the lid is closed, randomly the laptop turns off (beep) one then turns left.

    Weird.

T420 model number: 4180-PR1 with operating system: Windows 7 Pro 64-bit

He wouldn't buy support standby or hibernation, it would simply lock the computer. recently, we went to panama, fl on vacation and this feature no longer works. don't know why or how or exactly when. I looked through the settings and power options and may not know how to re - set parameters to lock the lid closed. I also have an HP that has begun to stay unlocked when I close the lid. I would like to know how to configure it to crash when the lid closes, so I don't need the screen saver locks with a password to send it in stand-by or press win + L before I close the lid.

  • Computer will not be put into hibernation when I close the lid

I have a problem with my laptop. It is a series of Toshiba C55. When I close the lid it will not be in hibernation, even if I set power options to do so. This happens not all the time, but it happens enough that it's boring. If I close the lid and it will not be in hibernation, which means that it is in danger of overheating if I put in my backpack. If I use the start menu, it just goes to the lock screen, that's what I suspect it is when I close the lid. Help on that would be great.
