When I do an email upward on outlook express 4, using the method described in Q270670 it backup my spam email. Why?

Email backup - anti spam files

When I do an email upward on outlook express 4 by using the method described in Q270670 I found the file was a massive file. On the investigation, I found that the file contained thousands of files for anti-spam (ca. 6 GB). These fact files does not appear in outlook express in the anti-spam file but only appear in the backup download. It is probably an accumulation of messages anti-spam for 6 years.

Why is this?

I can't open the dbx files to see what is in them

Your comments / tips

According to Bruce, EO4 served in Win95 and Win98.  The steps you describe in this article concern OE6, then maybe that's what you mean.

There is no 'anti-spam' files in OE, according to Bruce, and so if you have 6 gigabytes, then it is likely those are the dbx files that contain messages.  See www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#6 for OE data backup.  If you use some kind of anti-spam with OE program, then see point 3 on this page, contact the anti-spam software provider and ask them to explain it.

Microsoft seems to have deleted the download links for stationery for OE and Windows Mail on its Web site.  There is the default stationery installed with OE however, and it is possible that your system is looking in the wrong place for stationery files.  It might still be looking for the C drive.  The default location for the stationery is 'C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Stationery' and OE uses this registry key to determine this location:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE Tools\Stationery

and the value of "Stationery Folder"

    Default value is

    %ProgramFiles%\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Stationery

where the ProgramFiles is a variable which represents where the program files.

Since you're probably not too adept at editing the registry, just watch on both drives and see if there is a directory of stationery items in the drive C or H in the above locations and if there is a reader and not the other, then copy that to the same relative location on the other drive and then reboot and see if OE stationery which is default with OE.

You can also download free stationery sites that still support these features such ashttp://thundercloud.net/

  • Have questions about overall upward of Outlook Express.

I reason that, unlike Hotmail/Yahoo, etc., Outlook Express needs a Hotmail/Yahoo e-mail account must be configured before can connect you to Outlook Express?

An 'Outlook Express' e-mail account can be created with the outlook.com extension or the mail program is to 'Add' existing e-mail accounts?

Given that e-mail programs have their own Web sites (Hotmail/Yahoo, etc.), why use someone

Outlook Express to connect to their e-mail instead of going "directly" on the site

"Unlimited" email accounts "customizable" with Outlook?

It seems just silly to 'configure' email accounts when it is easier to just 'go' on the site directly. Am I missing something?

    Original title: Outlook Express

As I said that outlook Express has been replaced by Windows Mail, which, in turn, has been replaced by Windows Live Mail.

Customer e-mail are subject to development cycles just like Windows and all the other products are (as in general manufactured goods). Companies must engage in R & D and produce new and better products, or else someone else will be and take their market to them and put them out of business.

Personally, I use an e-mail client whenever I can (Outlook - which is not Outlook Express) and use the webmail for the time where I'm not to my PC but need to see my emails. Use of one does not preclude the use of the other.

Recently by clicking on outlook express to display my email, nothing else that an empty records when rises and the little hourglass.  After a long period of time, the message "not responding" appears at the top.  I have to start everything several times until my email has arrived.

For your second problem, you probably encounter the corruption of dbx files. The best way to solve it is a new identity.

Any window that you want to resize all the time must be the last closed window.

Take the corners of the window and drag it to the format full screen. Do not use to expand. Close all other windows first via the taskbar and the latter. Windows will remember the size of the last closed window the next time that you open the program.

You have apparent dbx file corruption.

Spend most of your messages out of the Inbox, and then create the new box of sent, and sent items folders after you move all the messages that you want to put in a local folder that you create.

Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store folder will reveal the location of your Outlook Express files. Note the location and navigate on it in Explorer Windows or, copy and paste in start | Run.

In Windows XP, Win2K & Win2K3 the OE user files (DBX and WAB) are by default marked as hidden. To view these files in Windows Explorer, you must enable Show hidden files and folders under start | Control Panel | Folder Options icon | Opinion, or in Windows Explorer. Tools | Folder options | View.

With OE closed, find the DBX files for the items in the Outbox and sent and delete them.  New ones will be created automatically when you open OE.

After you're done, followed by compacting your folders manually while working * off * and do it often.

Click Outlook Express at the top of the the folder tree so no folders are open. Then: File | Work offline (or double-click on work online in the status bar). File | Folder | Compact all folders. Don't touch anything until the compacting is completed.

  • Outlook Express 6 is the e-mail client 'default' in Works 8.5, can remove this icon and or replaced by Outlook 2003 or the 'other' no matter what version of outlook?

    Hi all

I have an old Dell Dimension 2400 desktop running Windows XP Pro. It has Microsoft Works 8.5, which contains a reference to Outlook Express 6 icon, so that it can be launched from inside Works 8.5.

I use NO Outlook Express 6, because I have Outlook 2003 AND Outlook 2007, can I use on it instead, if I want to - which I am not at the moment.

Anyone in this community know if it is possible to remove the icon from Outlook Express 6 to Works 8.5.

(and possibly 'replace' the icon with one for Outlook 2003 so that THIS 2003 version opens instead?)

There is no icon in Add/Remove programs for Outlook Express, or y at - it one in the "all programs" list. Is it possible to uninstall Outlook Express Windows XP completely somehow so that it does not Works 8.5 launch when a user clicks on its ' icon?

This version of Outlook Express does not work anyway (I tried to set up accounts in there, but they do not work even with the correct details) so it's wasting space on this little hard drive.

I want to be able to implement this old pc - that works fine as long as I accept his ' limits (Intel Celeron 2.4 Ghz single core cpu, 2 GB of Ram, 80 GB HDD)-for the nephews and my 11 years old 7yr to use it safely for the duties of the school, (I have a copy of the Encyclopedia Britannica 2006) , basic base 'games for kids' Web site, when they come to visit. My nephews have not much experience pc anyway and have no interest in the emails.

There is no other applications on it (which were not ' provided with Window XP Pro") for the moment, outside Works 8.5 and Windows Live nephews will have access to.

Norton Internet Security 2012, Norton Utilities, Norton go back 4.2 and control Parental Norton will be also created on this pc with Admin access only.

Otherwise, anyone here know of any 'other' app is similar to 8.5 Works that have the same characteristics of the task/project based - but without email - that I could use instead, which would continue to operate on an old XP pc?

I would greatly appreciate any ideas or advice from someone who wants to give it.

    Thank you!

    Bob

I can probably only partially help because I've never used Outlook or works.

Outlook Express is a part of XP, so it cannot be deleted, and probably, it takes less space than Norton.

Control Panel | Add/Remove programs. Add/Remove Windows components. Find Outlook Express and uncheck the box.

Control Panel | Add/Remove programs. Set Program Access and Defaults. Custom + down arrow | Select the option for Outlook 2003.

Start with that and see where you are.
