If I click on the + to open a tab, it happens to a browser window which I don't want. I've changed the 'home page' what I want, which doesn't seem to work, even when I restarted Firefox.
How can I change the screen that is displayed when I select a new tab? Thank you very much in advance for your help!
A new tab opens by default like a Virgin tab (topic: empty).
If this isn't the case, then an extension has changed this behavior.

I tried to change it myself through the Options menu and the Help menu. I can't find it.

You have a | after the web address that you set for your Home Page in the Options > general?

When I open a new tab, it me linked to a page at random GitHub talk html5-why?
This is the page it opened -http://nickpjason.github.io/
What is malware, or is this page related to Mozilla?
I'm glad you found what was causing the problem. Can you post the name of the extension that caused the problem and mark this message as the solution so that users can quickly find what extension to remove if they have the same problem?
Unfortunately, some extensions are known to cause disturbances of the navigation of the user experience. For example, see the article: delete a toolbar which took in charge your search Firefox or the home page. At the end of the day, installation of extensions is like installing other applications on your computer - do not forget to get a reliable source and remove it quickly if it isn't something suspicious. There are other extensions to backup Firefox as well in case something irreparable happens, see FEBE and OPIE.

When I open a new tab, I want it to be empty. Instead, it opens to a URL ('Bing'), unwanted. How can I change the tab setting to eliminate the opening to the Bing search engine and replace it with a blank tab?
I had already replaced Bing with Google as my default, but kept search engine with Bing on new tabs, I found very frustrating.
Finally, I found that I could return to a blank tab by going to control panel from my computer and uninstalling the Toolbar start now. Phew. No more Bing!

When I open a new tab, I get redirected to a page that is not google. I want to start with google and go from there.
You can check the browser.newtab.url pref on the topic: config page and set this pref to your preferred the new tab page.
- the new default tab with the tiles page is on: newtab
- the default homepage is Subject: Home
- to a blank page, you can use Subject: vacuum
The pref browser.newtabpage.enabled must be set to true to use the page defined through browser.newtab.url like the new tab page.
See this article on the page tab (topic: newtab):
Your list of details of the system shows that you have a user.js file in the profile folder to initialize prefs each time you start Firefox.
The user.js file is present than if you or another software has created this file and normally it wouldn't be here. You can check its contents with a text editor (right click: 'Open with'; do not double-click).
The user.js file is read whenever Firefox is started and initializes the preferences to the specified value in this file, so the preferences set via user.js can be changed temporarily for the current session. You can remove the user.js file if you do not create this file yourself.
You can use this button to go to the Firefox profile folder currently in use:
- Help > troubleshooting information > profile directory: see file (Linux: open the directory;) Mac: View in the Finder)

Now, when I opened a 'new tab' is just a blank white page.
This is not a standard feature of Firefox, it was added by an extension. What extensions are disabled in Firefox 5 due to the lack of compatibility?

When I open a new tab, I don't want to appear on the top, help me
I remove the tick in the settings but I don't have this problem
When I open a new tab in my bookmarks toolbar, that it must be on top.Do you mean when you Ctrl + click a bookmark (or use the right click > open in a new tab), you want the tab to load quietly in the background without switching to it right away? There is a hidden for this parameter.
(1) in a new tab, type or paste Subject: config in the address bar and press enter/return. Click on the button promising to be careful.
(2) in the search above the list box, type or paste the tabs and make a pause so that the list is filtered
(3) double click on the preference browser.tabs.loadBookmarksInBackground to put the default value false true - line should be "BOLD"
If you test, change work?
Since there are a number of similar sounding preferences, here is my understanding when they apply:
- browser.tabs.loadInBackground = > when you open a regular link in a new tab using Ctrl + click (or right click > open in a new tab)
- default = true, do not have the new active tab
- In the page Options dialog box, this is controlled by him "when I open a link in a new tab, switch to it immediately" setting.
- Browser.Tabs.Load InBackground ofdiversion = > when divert you a new window generated by script in a new tab using Ctrl + click, or a page using the link target attribute in a new launcher and divert you a new tab
- default = false, activate the new tab
- Browser.Tabs.LoadFavoritesInBackground = > when you load a bookmark in a new tab using Ctrl + click (or right click > open in a new tab)
- default = false, activate the new tab
- browser.tabs.loadInBackground = > when you open a regular link in a new tab using Ctrl + click (or right click > open in a new tab)
